Staff is very friendly and helpful, but the gem of the operation is "Rissi" our guide. He was so knowledgeable of the operation and spoke so well of the growing process I could have listened to him all day and never got bored. He also integrated great things in about growing up on the island, the culture and his family background. Well done "Rissi" I wanna hang out with you. I learned so much about the plants, the natural growing methods Maui Chocolate uses and the process of refining Cocoa into chocolate. The tasting after the orchard tour was in a tree house above the orchards offering beautiful views of the orchard, views of Molokai and Lanai. Once you have tasted Maui Chocolate you won't eat anything else, you shouldn't because you are eating pure coco with only natural ingredients prepared the Maui Chocolate way. Do the tour, whether it's the factory tour or the orchard tour (I am a freak about gardening and growing) so I wanted to learn more about the trees and methods and I truly learned a lot about their natural growing methods. What really hit the heart most was Maui Chocolate donates 100% of it profits to charity, works with the community and also works with other countries on growing methods. We got to see the entire process of how chocolate is made from the cacao plant all the way to the final product. It was fascinating to learn about each stage and our guide made it easy to understand while keeping things fun and engaging. I also learned so much about dark chocolate which I never used to enjoy until now! During the tasting I sampled a variety of unique flavors coffee, guava, mango, and even sugar-free and each one was incredible in its own way. The quality and freshness were unmatched. I was so impressed that after returning home I ordered two shipments from Maui Chocolate because I just couldn't get enough. A quick tip: arrive a little early for your tour. I ran a bit late but was still able to join (thankfully!) and I noticed they run right on schedule. Overall this tour was a highlight of my Maui trip -- fun, flavorful, and full of learning. It was a proud moment, knowing that my father's family were born and raised in Puukolii, Lahaina. As a youngster, I heard stories from my dad, uncles and auntie about life in Puukolii and growing-up in Lahaina. Being able to visit and see the landmarks was quite a sight.

The gargantuan steel structure and smoky/sweet smell greeted you as you drove up Lahainaluna Road which was covered in dust, caked-on red dirt, and cane stalk remnants. The mill stood on both sides of the road with a bridge-like connector in the middle. Come present day, the only surviving artifact is a majestic 225 foot high smokestack that has been beautifully restored into a free visitable monument, complete with restored locomotives. For the past six years (since 2009) they held an event known as the Lahaina Plantation Days that showcased plantation history, exhibits, arts, crafts, entertainment, and food booths, which benefitted the Lahaina Restoration Foundation. Sadly the event's finale was this year, 2015.

We tried: - Coconut water - Coconut jelly - Coconut meat - Coconut shavings ... All from coconuts of varying ages, getting the chance to see how each tastes different from the other. Kai even popped by with a surprise: fresh palm hearts! My bf and I frequently use canned ones for salads-- the raw flavor blew our minds. The entire "tour" took around 1.5 hours. The cafe in front is charming, lovely drink & food offerings alongside a gift shop. You can tell that the staff here actually care about the history of Hawaii and respect the island.

Jeff is a wonderful human being who is caring empathetic and is a master of customer service. He is an outstanding problem solver. Jeff is warm, welcoming and attentive to detail. He is also fast and efficient. It is clear Jeff does the work of ten people and accomplishes it with style and grace. Unfortunately upon checkin, my requested two queen bed accommodations were unable to be provided. At the recommendation of the front desk clerk Caroline and the MOD (Manager on Duty) Keith We decided to opt for the king bed and roll in "Heavenly" twin. Keith was very apologetic for the lack of requested accomodations but provided us with an upgraded ocean view room and The LĀNAI . This resort is 5 stars in all respects. The staff experience was exceptional. The food & beverage experience was outstanding. The resort is spotless clean and meticulously maintained. The pools and surrounding decks were large enough that we never felt crowded or had an issue finding chairs. The resort has a huge game area "Valley Alley" with a full bar and kitchen. Well appointed with the latest games including VR, air hickey and even bowling. The resort is conveniently located right next to Whalers Village. A short 3 minute walk. Our room was well appointed with all the ammenities that you would expect from the Westin brand. From thick bath towels and The Heavenly bedding to ice cold A/C. This resort has it all. They only post that warning in one spot. I wish I had seen that sign before running into the little dude as I definitely passed over him. It was really special and we've got to respect these incredible animals! The reef isn't the only way the hotel really lets you experience some of the island on site. The Big Wave shaved ice in the lobby is also some of the best you can have. As far as the rooms, in addition to stoves and washer/dryer, Westin beds are always exceptional. When we inquired about our room and if it was correct, we were told it was and that some owners of the condos renovate the condos and they may not match the online postings exactly. We were very displeased with this and this is clearly false advertising. If I wanted a studio, I would have booked and paid for a studio. As a family, we had no privacy because of this and made the sleeping situation undesirable. We could also hear the people above us every night. At around 3am they would be up stomping around and you could hear everything. The rooms are supposed to be updated but I would not consider our room updated. There was no housekeeping. I had to call and request it but our room was only serviced once. Luckily we weren't charged, unlike other reviews I have seen. The larger pool was fine; definitely not resort style. But it could use some maintenance each day because the pool seemed dirty and not cleaned from the various people frequenting it each day. I would have given this place a one star but I gave it two stars due to: 1) the front desk staff we interacted with was very kind and helpful; truly so nice. 2) our kids enjoyed the morning hot cocoa 3) the location to the beach is nice and the beach was enjoyable 4) the walking path and proximity to local spots and hotels was convenient. We had a queen size bed and pull out couch also the size of a queen. A dining table, full size refrigerator, sink, cooking appliance, and dinner ware. The restroom was nice. It had the shower and tub in one room and the other part of the restroom had a normal sized mirrored closet, in addition to the drawers for our clothes in the main room. I wish they had an ice machine but they had ice cube trays in the freezer. WIFI WAS GREAT. The TV aid a bit old school lol. We didn't need to reach out to the workers often but if needed we could just text them which was fantastic. Plenty of parking and I loved that this was not super crowded when we went to the pool. Prob because everyone is out and about. It's walking distance to the beach of course and a 10 minute walk for us to Whalers village. I wouldn't mind staying here again but most likely I'd try a different location just for new experiences.

Finding the spot initially was a little confusing, we were the last ones to show up! You are given a number based on when you arrive and you choose a seat on the boat. There is a captain and a naturalist on board who talks about the whales. If you're sitting in the back of the boat, you really can't hear what's being said so sit at the front or in the middle. We circled around and got to see a baby whale breech the water! Such magnificent animals. When a microphone was lowered in the water, we could hear the whales "singing." Did you know it's only the males that do this? The time goes by reallllly fast, so just enjoy being out there.

It doesn't add wonder. It just fills time, and after a while it feels less like an adventure and more like being talked at while you wait for something that never really arrives. For the price, the substance simply isn't there. You're paying premium money for a brief look at an underwhelming patch of seafloor, wrapped in a lot of manufactured atmosphere. If you genuinely want to see Maui's marine life, a decent snorkel trip will show you more color, more fish, and more magic for a fraction of the cost. Two stars instead of one only because the sub itself is clean and the staff are pleasant. But on value and the actual experience? This was hype over substance. SUBMARINE RIDE TO A SUNKEN SHIP. We immediately booked this while we were planning on things to do…read moreon Maui, I think we had it reserved before we even booked anywhere to stay. We did a similar experience in Catalina but that was more of a "submersible" that didn't submerge into the water and was more like riding in the bottom of a boat with windows. Atlantis is a "true" submarine that will take you down 130 ft into the water and is fully submersed. You start the day meeting at the wharf and then take a boat fast 30 minute board ride to the actual submarine thats parked out deeper in the water. On the way you get great views of Maui from the water and you get to go down a hatch to get into the sub, super cool. The submarine ride is about an hour, the best part is getting very close to sunken boat that was purposely placed there as a coral and marine life habitat. There will be numerous fish swimming about the boat and the sub rotates so you'll get good views of it no matter where you sit.
