Skyline Regional Park was an unexpected delight for our first visit. The terrain was varied and the trails that we walked were striking, between the variety of plant life and sweeping views. The facilities all seemed so new and the signage was great. This is my new favorite hiking area in the region. read more

Possibly one of the best hiking spots nearest to Buckeye with well-defined trails. Being a big fan of hiking and outdoor activities, it seems contrary to rate this state park less than 5 stars. During the time I had visited, the sun was warm and the air was nice and cool. Plenty of other visitors around, yet parking was not an issue. Parking, however, is limited to a small area. The public dining tables and areas were clean with well designated trash and recycling collection receptacles nearby. Trailer and tent camping is available here, yet there can't be very many spaces from what I encountered. My only concern with this park is that there were empty bullet shells scattered around some parts of the trail. I seriously doubt shooting guns here at the park for any kind of fun or target practice is legal, nor safe. This park is a nice choice to spend a lazy afternoon and after a long day of travel if driving through or visiting Buckeye. read more

Did a great little hike here, ended up being shorter than expected as we went the wrong way on one of the trails. The mile markers do take some getting used to. Parking lot has picnic benches, the women's restroom was decent. Lots of trails to choose from. We did see coyotes at the trailhead. And best of all, free. Will be back. read more

All I will say is that we did NOT spend enough time exploring Skyline Regional Park during our last visit. A group of us gals decided we wanted a hiking adventure day so we started at Skyline Regional Park and chose the Watson Overlook Loop mainly due to timing - it was quick & touted good views. I mean, we had a coffee shop to get to... But it was a beaut. Straight up, super short, and stunning. We actually hiked up it so quickly we had time to explore another mountain biking loop for a little... It has incredible 360-degree views and some big rocks where you can just sit and journal or relax and soak up the views. The drive is a little iffy once you get off the I-10 and the service isn't great so from a directions and communication perspective with friends, it was tricky. But once you get the to main parking area, you will feel comfortable and like you are at any other regional park. There are restrooms, but do recommend you always bring your own extra toliet paper. We did have to share with some awesome hiking buddies but that's also just part of our hiking story, too! The coolest part to us is that this is the southern part of the White Tanks. So we actually went and hiked the Waterfall Trail at White Tanks after but to think that we were hiking the same mountain, just a 25-minute drive difference, was really cool! read more

Skyline Regional Park is part of the White Tank Mountains. Unlike the White Tank Mountain entrance, Skyline Regional Park has no entrance fee. A well maintained park. The park has well paved roads, trails, campgrounds and community events. Signs for events show that they were earlier this year. Trails are well marker. Markers include a small map of the trail, as well as the degree of difficulty. The Redhawk trail is perfect for young hikers. It is level, only 0.6 miles, and has signs with facts to keep them entertained. The trails also wheelchair accessible. Trails for every level of difficulty. In honor of Earth Day, we came with bags to clean while hiking. Trails we hiked were some of the cleanest I have seen. The park is still far enough out to see some wildlife. Along with the usual small lizards, quail and roadrunner, we saw a gila monster. (Look between the bush and the rock in the picture to see it. It is orange and black.) read more

I love coming here when it isn't so hot. The trails are well maintained and really clean. There's always a lot of people on the trails as well, which shows how much people enjoy it here. I haven't gone to any of the hosted events but my husband and I have hiked several of the trails. They also have smoother trails good for the elderly which is where I take my parents when they feel like being active. Definitely come and take a small hike! You won't regret it! read more

I just finished hiking to the only summit I had not been to (Javalina Summit), which also means I have completed every trail in the park. The trails are rated appropriately from easy to difficult and there is a trail for everyone. They are well marked with waypoints to use if you have an emergency. Even during spring break it wasn't crowded so I was able to enjoy the trails without any disruptions. I highly recommend this very well maintained park. read more

This is probably one of my FAVORITE two mountains I have been to. The hours are more ideal and if I remember correctly, once you're in you can leave whenever you want. You're not stuck inside. Granite falls is by far my favorite trail because it goes up down and has a little bit of everything. And when the sun starts going down there's still some light because of where the mountain is and the sun is going down, if that makes sense at all hahah. Just such a pretty mountain. I would say this mountain has only so many trails and it's got mostly moderate to hard trails. The easy ones are connected to more moderate ones for sure. I brought my dogs with me to hike and they made it through! The trails are well maintained. Make sure to bring plenty of water to drink and a water bowl when hiking with dogs. We stopped every 15-20 mins to make sure the dogs are hydrated. We hiked the Turnbuckle trail which is three miles. The trail has inclines and narrow paths. Sometimes, I let the dogs hike up and the trails off leash. Make sure to scan for thorns from cacti along a side of the landscape, they can easily poke a dog paw. I was very proud of my fur babies when they finished the trail. I would definitely go back hike again! read more

I came to hike here on a Sunday afternoon, arriving to the parking lot around 1:30PM which was pretty full at the time. We started the hike and did Turnbuckle to Chukwalla up to Pyrite Summit, and I really appreciate the clear signage throughout the paths. There not only were signs on what the trail names were, but also a map would accompany it! It was pretty awesome; always knew how much more distance we had to go and always knew what trail we were on. Incredible even more so that this place is free! Anyway, the hike itself was fine, nothing too spectacular in my opinion - just the normal Arizona desert. It wasn't very steep but it was slightly rocky (ie not super suitable for running). The view at the top was alright; it wasn't too high altitude-wise so it wasn't too impressive, but the views were still nice as we could see the city below and the mountains around us. Took about an hour to get up and another hour to get down. read more

This is a beautiful hiking spot to see some of what the Phoenix metropolitan area has to offer. The parking is adequate and there are restrooms on site. The signs on the trail are a little confusing and I did end up on a 5 mile hike instead of the planned 3 miles. (Probably a good thing though!) I plan on many returns because of the beautiful surrounding landscapes. read more

Come here very often. Quartz mine is my absolute favorite trail but it's only one way so you must take lost creek trail and mountain wash trail to come back to the parking lot. Very clean and clear trail markers. During the hot summer, I like to take turnbuckle trail. If you start just as the the sun is rising, you will get very minimal sun exposure because the mountain provides shades most of the way making the trail a lot more enjoyable. read more

All these years in Arizona and with all my hiking and constantly looking for new things to do I came across Skyline a few days ago online. I had to check it out especially after finding out it was part of the White Tank Mountains, but FREE since it's a regional park. Short drive off the 10 freeway in Buckeye. Besides passing a small housing development it's pretty wide open. There were quite a few things I liked. It had easy and well kept parking areas, nice picnic areas with bbq grills and recyclable area along with basic trash receptacles. There's a public bathroom that was very clean and well kept. There's tons of area to mountain bike and believe me here were a ton of mountain bikers out this moronic. The weather was great. There are some trails for hiking only if you want to steer clear of the bikes and even a short walk up a hill for an overlook which had a pretty good view and benches. You can also camp and ride horses if you like those things. Like I said this was my first time here, and only did two trails. With one being pretty steep I did have to stop for a minute to catch my breath, but man was that view worth it when I turned around and got a great workout in. My dislikes were small, but the trails are definitely not as well kept at if you paid to get into the white tanks off Olive. You can tell the rain washes out a lot and decent sized rocks everywhere so be careful and probably where hiking shoes more than your regular tennis shoes like I did. The markers for the certain trails were a bit confusing and even though they said they were a certain distant according to my stats they fell short, but who knows. I still had a great time, nice park, great for families and can see all the way to Phoenix when the shy is clear and overlooks Verrado. I'll definitely be back. read more

Stunning trails to go hiking on. Some are fairly difficult, but all are gorgeous and have amazing views!

I have hiked a couple of trails here and they are all fabulous. The bathrooms have running water and there are trails of varying difficulty so everyone can find something for them. They even have a wheelchair accessible trail. The park is free "for now". The views at the summits are just as good if not better than in town hikes and the park is large enough there really aren't crowds. They also have campground spots and equestrian trails. read more

My husband and I recently discovered this park when searching out a place to go hiking. I have to say that I am very impressed with the maintenance of the trails and the beauty of the area. So far we have hiked the Turnbuckle and Quartz Mine/Skyline Crest trails. I really enjoyed the view and the beauty of the Skyline Crest trail. I am looking forward to returning here to try out a bunch of the others. I did notice that they also have wheelchair accessible trails as well. I think this is just excellent and something that you don't always find. read more

I absolutely love this trail system! It is rarely trafficked in comparison to the rest of the valley! There is a variety of hikes some with great elevation gain others that are flat and long great for dog walks. There is literally a hike for everyone! read more

This is a very nice place to go hiking. There are a lot of different levels. They currently do not charge to get in like the White tanks but I do believe they will eventually start charging. We went on the Turnbuckle which is a 3 mile hike at a moderate level. If you like to hike check it out, the bathrooms are very clean as well which is always a plus! read more

Searched for local hikes on my iPhone maps and this looked appealing. GPS does not take you to this park though, it takes you to a big empty nothing close to a school. I went to a nearby Dunks on Watson road right before the 10 onramp. The cashier was nice enough to tell me to take a right out of the parking lot onto Watson road and follow it to the very end and sure enough, there is the park. Lots of picnic tables, a restroom and camping. Took my 2 dogs for a 6 mile hike through these trails. Very beautiful spot. Much less foot traffic than where I had been going in the more touristy Scottsdale. This will probably be our new spot to enjoy hikes in the winter. read more

This has been my favorite thing to do since I've been in Arizona. The "Turbuckle" hiking trail is pretty challenging but the end is so rewarding. From the switchbacks to the view, this 3 mile walk is well worth a try!!! read more
