I was very disappointed. The shop is very cute and has a lot of seating, including outdoor seating. My fiancé and I ordered two sandwiches. After about 45 minutes we realized that it was taking quite some times. We heard a family come out and say they waited over an hour. I went inside just to see how much longer it would be and was told, by the manager, that they were backed up. I understand being backed up, I've been there when I worked in food but the least you could do is inform people BEFORE they order. The staff was very friendly and apologized but knowing before would have helped a lot. We did wind up getting a refund and no food at Slate. We had planned on eating early and getting on the road but because of this we didn't get started until much later than planned. Maybe one day we'll try again. read more

It's lovely! I'm traveling from way out of state (Florida) and coffee is a staple in my day to say life so finding a cafe near my hotel was a must. After arriving in town I had time to kill before my check in time at my hotel so I waked around the charming downtown area and stumbled upon Slate. The interior is light and welcoming, they have great breakfast food options all day as well as a standard coffee selection. My brother and I ended spending quite a few hours here before checking into our hotel and after checking out a few days later before out flight departed and no one gave us a strange look for staying around so much, in fact someone whom I believe to be the owner remembered us and greeted us warmly! We came to Slate for the first time today coming from Lancaster, and the cafe seemed to lack in most areas. We ordered 2 GF avo toasts with no egg, and one plate of GF banana pancakes. The pancakes were a good texture, but nothing special. The GF toast was the definition of boring. Plain white toast, a guacamole spread that was store bought, and two cherry tomatoes per piece of toast. Something I could make at home.. it wasn't special and shows me they don't care. Upon bringing our dishes in, our server, who was polite (enough) noticed us struggling to walk back inside with our dishes, and didn't help, just smiled. When we asked where to put the dishes she walked us over the garbage, instead of helping us with our plates. Extremly disappointing. read more

I hate to leave a bad review, especially during COVID, but I was incredibly disappointed in my lunch I ordered here last month. The coffee was good, but the avocado toast was clearly made with frozen avocado mash.. it was mealy and still ice cold. Having ordered a latte and a bad avocado toast for more than $20, I was expecting something way better. My suggestion is to make the food menu smaller and do less items really well (with fresh in-season produce) instead of offering a three page menu. read more

We popped in and out for a quick hot drink on a cold evening. Their hot chocolate could be a touch more chocolatey and sweet, but it was piping hot & the whipped cream on top was real, which added a nice creaminess. read more

Then when our food came out, they gave it to someone else who opened it and touched the food, realized it wasn't theirs, gave it to the server who tried to give it to us. This review would be much higher; I've been there a bunch of times and the food under the new owners is consistently decent. It's clean, and can be a nice place to come and sit for awhile with a cup of coffee. However. About half the time I come in, the cafe is loudly playing Christian rock. Jesus is cool and all, but Christian rock is by far the worst the radio has to offer; it's like an entire genre comprised only of Nickleback cover bands. And even the Christians among us don't necessarily want to eat breakfast while we listen to the lead singer of ChristIsLove or some nonsense croon into our ears for half an hour about how much they LURVE JESUS while they switch back and forth between the three chords they've managed to learn. It's also deeply unfair to the community at large; Lititz and Lancaster in general have a reputation for being welcoming, kind, warm places for people of all colors and creeds, which, at the moment, can be kind of an exception in the U.S. I was sitting next to a hijabi woman this morning and couldn't help but wonder whether the music was making her just a little more uncomfortable in a country that already has a recent history of cruelty and exclusion towards her people. Cafes are supposed to be warm, welcoming, inclusive places where anyone can go to catch up with friends or sit for a bit with a book and a cuppa. The music shouldn't chase people out or serve as a form of acoustic torture. read more

More than a mere coffee shop. Although their coffee and tea are excellent, I'd brag more about their food. Clean, delicious. Breakfast all day. Lunch and dinner are more on the sandwich, wrap side. We had wanted to try to support a small local business for a quick Sunday afternoon lunch. Unfortunately we will not be returning. Both our iced coffee and latte were very weak and watery. When I got home and opened my to go box with the cranberry walnut salad it was only 3/4 full and there were very few toppings. The little bit of overly cooked turkey on it was more along the lines of jerky than a meaty topping for a salad. At almost $10, I believe a salad should be sufficient as a meal especially if it is presented as such. Although the atmosphere is modern and relaxing, I would not recommend this cafe. read more

My family and I love Slate!! It's atmosphere is great, customer service is always top notch and I would be remiss if I didn't mention their brownies. My kids insist on one every time we're there and I'm happy to indulge as long as I get a bite! Their coffee is great and my personal favorites are their lattes and London fog. I'm a big fan of Slate Cafe! They have a bottomless mug of the best coffee in town. I can confirm the food is excellent too - I've had their soups, wraps, and salad. The "Energy Bites" are also a tasty treat. Supporting local businesses just tastes better! read more

I always enjoy the food at Slate - especially the coffee beverages. The cafe is always clean, plays lovely music, and the staff is extremely friendly! They take a lot of care in preparing each item. I recommend Slate to friends and family who aren't from the area and are touring Lancaster/Lititz. The prices aren't bad either. read more

The only reason I will give this cafe two stars is because their espresso was decent. I enjoyed their iced americano. I was unhappy with my order of avocado toast with an egg. It unfortunately looked like a 12 year old made it. I received two pieces of basic white bread toast with smeared, under ripe avocado (approximately 1/4 of an avocado it seemed). It then had butchered cut tomatoes on top. The only part that was decent was the scrambled egg on top. I was overall very disappointed as the menu looked amazing. I threw out most of my meal, and it was not worth $10. Regarding the environment, it is cute inside, but I sat next to the kitchen door and instead of having a number or name system when they bring out your food, they quite literally yell the order out. I am in my 20s so I'm not easily bothered by loud noises but it was disruptive to my conversations, and I can imagine it would not be appreciated by many. Aside from dropping in for a coffee and maybe a pastry, I will unfortunately not be dining here again. read more

Nothing is no charge so it should be stated before your 6.00 sandwich turns out to be 9.00. Just be up front about itemizing a meal. Place smells like paint and is echo-y. Tried the new Slate Café in Lititz PA. Was so excited to go. The coffee was great. However , the breakfast was not super, just OK. Unfortunately we had to ask for the table to be wiped off. I was a little concerned even as we walked in the door because we certainly were not greeted with a warm smile and a welcome. Hopefully lunch will be better. read more
