I'll start off by saying that the food here is very good. This is not a typical full service restaurant; you order at the counter and they will give you a buzzer that you place at your table and your food will be brought to you. We stopped here on a Saturday at about 1:15pm. I placed my order at 1:30pm, and only got all our orders by 2:15. So if you are looking for a quick bite to eat, this is not the place, especially when it a busy. It will take some time to get your food. Coffee orders in the afternoon seem to come out a bit quicker. Other than the long wait for food, this is a decent place to eat for some quality food. The place is neat and seems very modern. The burger how's good as was the southwest breakfast bowl. The tomato dill soup was excellent. My kid ordered the chicken strips with fries, they only give two strips for the kids meal. Overall a decent experience if you have about an hour on your hands for a meal. read more

We ordered an amazing breakfast for a work meeting. The quiche and parfaits are amazing. Our team eats "light" and the variety they offer is perfect. Don't pass on the oatmeal parfait!!!!! Cute little place across from the carriage house. Plenty of fresh baked items along with hot selections. It was packed this morning, but the line moved quickly and our food - French toast stacker & Avocado toast came up hot and fast. There are a lot of choices in this town, you would do yourself well by coming here. As I write this my wife is ordering a latte to go. What a lovely restaurant! My husband and I actually stayed at the restaurant owners' Airbnb and got a voucher to this restaurant. We had a delicious brunch. I ordered the Lancaster quiche, which came with a side salad. The quiche wasn't too heavy and had a good flavor. I really liked the crust. It was a good portion as well. The servers are friendly, and there's plenty of seating inside. Would definitely come back here and try the French toast next time we are in the area! read more

Best coffee I've had in PA After spending the night in Lancaster I was searching for a spot for brekkie. The speckled hen called my name. And I am so glad it did because wow! This is a must stop spot in my opinion. I decided to order the avocado toast, an iced strawberry matcha, and a hot mocha. This avocado toast was not only beautiful, but it was so incredibly delicious! The flavors mingled perfectly and I always love a nice bite of pickled red onion! The matcha was also fabulous. The perfect color!! And a fabulous flavor to go with it. As for this mocha, I genuinely don't know if I've ever had a better espresso! And I'm from Seattle so I consider myself to know a few things. The foam was so think that the coffee art didn't move when I took a sip. Jaw drop moment for me. The inside was nice and bright. Lots of seating! I stopped by here earlier today with my family for our morning coffee. Whenever we go on vacation, we try to visit a new coffee shop each morning, and on this day we decided to head to the Speckled Hen since it was close by. The shop is located on East Main Street and has parking on both the side and the back. From the outside, I did not expect it to be very large, but the interior ended up being surprisingly spacious. The main area includes the ordering counter along with display cases and a Christmas tree, as it was right before the holiday. The cashier was especially nice to my kids and told us about a play area located in one of the side rooms, which we immediately headed toward. That room could seat around twenty four people and had wood floors along with black metal and dark wood chairs. The real win for us, though, was the kids play area. It was set up like a miniature version of the coffee shop, complete with play food and desserts, which kept our kids happily occupied while we enjoyed our drinks. For my coffee this morning, I went with the Gingerbread House Latte, and my wife chose the same. The coffee was very good. You got a solid coffee flavor up front, followed by a clear gingerbread note, and then it finished with a pleasant sweetness that lingered for a bit without becoming overpowering. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I enjoyed our coffees, and while I did not eat anything myself, my wife enjoyed her berry Nutella croissant and my daughter really liked her parfait. read more

A surprising find for some gluten free and vegan gals! This was something like you would find in a more urban area. We found our table and perused the menu before heading to the counter to place our order. Got our little buzzers and took a seat.... And then they brought the food to us! I got the sweet potato bowl with GF toast. My friend got the vegan burrito. We both loved our choices. The coffee was excellent, too. We got there as soon as they opened and it was completely empty.... It soon filled up and the kids play area was right behind us. We soon found ourselves shouting to hear one another. Maybe not the best place to sit if you don't have littles with you. I'd love to come back to try some other dishes. They all looked so good. read more

Came in for coffee and pastry and unfortunately really hated it. Coffee is not bad, but pastries are awful. The most mediocre baking I have ever had. On top of it they messed up our coffee order and we had to wait literally forever. I don't know if this is the only spot in town...it was extremely overcrowded. Dave and I had one day to spare after graduation in Maryland, so we took a ride to Pennsylvania Dutch Country. We needed to find a place to eat outside with Freckles and we came across the Speckled Hen Coffee Place in Strasburg. This cafe is charming and is located on Main Street. You order at the counter and then you get your own coffee. It's the kind of place that you can relax, read, do school work etc. We both had the western omelettes that were delicious and I had home fries on the side and Dave grits, When our food was ready the servers brought it outside for us along with a water bowl for Freckles. We ate and watched the cars and buggies go by. I love the beautiful green fields and horses and buggies. I even saw the Host Farm which is now a Hershey's property. Here's where I went first my honeymoon a long, long, time ago. We hopefully will return to this beautiful place with its perfect temperatures again. read more

Had a lunch here as we were passing through. A great amount of gluten free options. Breakfast is served all day. French toast was good. Burger was good, but the fries were cold. Salad was good too. You order at the counter and find a table and they bring it to you. You're supposed to clear your table when done. A negative for me is tip suggestions start at 20%, yet, I'm doing 1/2 the work. Custom works for me I guess. Two rooms, one was quieter when we got there, but a couple of kids forgot their inside voices and the lady picking up plates really banged them so it got loud. Oh my goodness, I haven't had brunch like this in a while! Speckled Hen Coffee was a nice surprise. We needed lunch in between our steam train experience and the Amish farm tour, but there wasn't a lot of options. At first glance I ignored this place because we thought it was just coffee! Then my friend said we should go because they have different options for the adults and the kids. The menu was extremely extensive and so appealing! There were breakfast bowls, omelettes, quiches, dessert, beverages, burgers, you name it! And all seemed like table to farm type of vibe. I went with the homestyle breakfast bowl, which a worker recommended. It had beans, cheese, salsa, bacon and egg all on top of some fresh spinach. Once mixed, it was the best dang bowl I've had. The flavors mixed well, and it didn't feel at all heavy (though to be fair I gave one bacon to my bacon-loving daughter!) I had my meal with their popular iced coconut latte. My friend loved it so much I went to ask which brand they used for the coconut milk in the latte. Turns out they make their own coconut syrup!! Lots of seating options, including a private room with a large table in the back. That's where we sat and felt like we didn't need to be embarrassed when our four little children got a little bit louder. I really wish they had this place in New-York city! Excellent breakfast choices. Whereas generally you can find pancakes and sugary treats widely in this area , healthier choices are much harder to find. This place catered to all - sliced avocados , egg whites , yoghurts , berries. The service on top was amazing in a very nice setting. read more

A great coffee shop in the town of Strasburg! My family and I took a trip nearby Lancaster and stopped by this coffee shop one morning for breakfast and coffee. Parking is plentiful. The service is great - baristas we're very helpful with both food and coffee menu. My husband ordered an omelette and latte, and I ordered their baked oatmeal and blueberry blue latte, which is decaf tea latte (I subbed for almond milk), and their lavender syrup. I enjoyed it overall and wasn't terribly sweet, which I wanted. I thought the espresso tasted a tad bitter and overly roasted in my husband's latte. But Their breakfast was delicious! I loved their oatmeal bake and would def order it again if I went back there. They have a number of healthy breakfast options, which I wish I could have ordered more of. Prices are also fairly reasonable here. The thing I love about this place, is it is absolutely kid friendly. There is a play area for toddlers, and a table nearby the play area to keep an eye on your kids. My son loved the play area and was keeping himself entertained the entire time. We also ordered for him French toast sticks from the kids menu, and he loved it! All in all, a great experience and hope to visit again one day! read more

Food was okay, and the coffee was so-so (bitter). Interestingly, they ask for a tip yet expect their customers to clean the tables when done. I'm not sure what exactly that tip was for. Service was fine, but one of the workers was ill/sick (maybe COVID) because she was wearing a mask? Probably shouldn't be at work if they're sick. I ordered the quiche with potatoes, and it was very good. The quiche was super soft and fluffy, and the crust was tasty. The crust was very biscuit like, which is a little different than what I have had in the past, but I enjoyed it. I liked how the potatoes were cut small, and they were crispy and flavorful. The speckled hen omelette was great as well, and I loved the candied bacon in it. I was told that the drinks were pretty good as well. The quiche egg was fluffy and soft, and the crust was buttery and perfectly flaky. The omelet was the same, fluffy and soft, and I loved the roasted veggies within. Plenty of seating within, with a cozy, farm chic decor that invites you stay if you want (similar to our local first watch but more a coffee shop vibe). The hash was cut small which increased the crunch factor of the potatoes. Perfectly salted. There is a section in the corner of one of the sections with a kids play section which is perfect for a visit with kids. Would definitely return if I'm in the area again. read more

When visiting Strasburg Railroad, a trip to Speckled Hen coffee is a must! This little hipster cafe is everything you could ever want in a restaurant -- beautiful and large space, helpful and fast service, large menu, and the creme de la creme, a tiny cafe playset for little humans to get their wiggles out while waiting for their french toast sticks to cool down. Our lattes with house made lavender syrup came in extra, extra big mugs which fueled us for the day ahead. Omelettes were perfect and pastries flaky and light. I also loved how they had tons of vegetarian, gluten-free, and healthy food options. On our way out, we noticed a little playground behind the parking lot. I highly, highly recommend! read more
