Went yesterday for a celebratory night with some close friends and I feel everyone enjoyed themselves. Slate has a little bit of everything, giant jenga, karaoke, bowling, skee-ball, arcade style basketball, AND great "bar" food (minus the cold slimy wings or cardboard pizza, we're talking real deal food). My only gripe was that they ran out of ginger beer (by 6pm) so no Moscow Mule for me, but other than that I had a great time. As for food, my group tried a few things on the menu. The standouts for me were the shrimp tacos (fried and on a crispy wonton shell) and sweet but sassy wings (sweet with a hint of spice and had the right amount of sauciness), so good! read more

If I could give this place no stars I would. At first everything started out nice and fun. I had a group of girlfriends come and as everyone knows after a certain time there's a MINIMUM of $50 tab that needs to be opened in order to enter the club. Which okay, but then my girlfriends get kicked out of the club for getting sick. Then my girlfriend picks up her coat from coat check and the lady from there steals her AirPods and refuses to own up to it. I go to pick up my coat and the lady gave my coat to no one and put the coat back because she took it out and I wasn't there to receive it. So they losT my coat and I asked for it back and they kick me out too WITHOUT MY JACKET. It look me over an hour to get my coat back which is ridiculous; what club takes coats and steals AirPods from coat check and then tries to pin IT ON THEIR GUESTS to look like the bad guys and kicks us out. Tried out Slate for the first time a few days ago. Really dope spot. A cool ass mix of bar, games (including giant chess, giant connect for, giant jenga and billiards), dance floor on both the top and bottom floor and also food (but didn't have food here the night I went.) Slate is pretty laxed when it comes to dress code. Came here with shorts, sneakers and a button down on a Friday night and even saw some with T-Shirts. Didn't see any crazy rowdiness although there was a fight outside after I was leaving which was around midnight. Drinks slightly on the pricey side at around $14 a drink and $9 a beer, kind of a little above average for NYC but not the worse I've seen (ahem Magic Hour Rooftop) Definitely plan on coming here sometime soon. I came here for a night out with my coworkers thinking it would be a great place to hang out. Play some games, order drink and food, but it has been a terrible time overall. First, games were limited because there was a private party which we were aware. However we didn't expect to have just 2 things available. Second, they rack up YOUR BILL like crazy. We ordered bottom shelf/ well shots but somehow they thought we said Patron. I guarantee you, we did not say Patron. And when the bill came, the waitress said that well shots are the same price as Patron anyways. MADE NO SENSE. We wanted to talk to the manager, the manager refuse to come. Expected us to over tip with only having the option 15%, 20%, and 25%. I also asked for tap water and they brought buckets of Fiji water - no one told us that would be another $60 added to our bill. The next day, I emailed the director of night life, Tara, but of course she sided with the team saying they're super new and that it was technically our fault for drinking what was given to us when we clearly knew what we had ordered. Overall, this place is overly hyped, with dirty and janky activities. Overly priced drinks that's been watered down, and the staff didn't seem like they knew what they were doing. I have been to Slate...a lot lol. I always have a great time but I gotta say Joe at the front is amazing. Every time I've headed in with my friends he greets us with the biggest smile but you can tell he's always on point with the comings and goings of the club. The other night my party spontaneously got a table and he made sure the check-in was smooth- we got the best spot in the club right in the middle of the dance floor on the top level. At one point he came over for a check just to make sure everyone was good and that we were taken care of. Slates already the best time but Joe goes above and beyond to make sure you feel like you're getting your moneys worth. Run, dont walk, away from this trashbag on Pride Month. So many other places I could think of that would accept the LGBTQ+ community way better than here; Barcade to start (same concept) and Boxers (ironically on the other side of the block). Waited on line with my girlfriends wearing a similar outfit to them (in terms of bottoms length and top). The bouncer and manager approached us, looked me up and down, and said "oh no, your shoulders are showing, and those shorts, nope", kicked us off line. I told the bouncer that I am wearing the same amount of fabric as my girls, what is the issue with that? We were still following the "dress to impress" policy that you have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the website to find- so what was the real problem? Their response: "it's just how it's done here". My lovely friends argued with both the bouncer and manager for a few minutes about the obvious homophobia being exercised on me - to which the manager also remarked "we'll let you in, take your cover, and they'll kick you out inside" - but at the end of the day, the conclusion is the same - I'd never give my money to a joke of a place that sits back to back from another establishment that gladly takes me the way I am; and for a $20 cover at that? I had a good time hanging out at Slates tonight! This is a nice place to hang out, listen to music, sip, chat and play pool, ping pong etc! There is two floors and a few rooms to mix and mingle! All the pool tables, ping pong etc are located on the lower level. The stairs light up which is really cool. The food and drinks are really good. I had the Red wax raspberry drink which is the bomb.com!! It gave me life for the night!! My waitress was really friendly & professional!! This is a nice place to try out!!! read more

I am not a tourist, I am a native New Yorker and I have been to Slate at least 15 times the past 2/3 years. Slate is one of my FAVORITE bars in the entire city. I would recommend this bar to both New Yorkers and tourists alike. Here are some pros and cons: PROS: Full bar, knowledgeable and friendly bartenders. GREAT MUSIC. Excellent happy hour prices. THERE ARE GAMES FOR FREE. There is ping pong, Foosball, pool, Jenga and various others. You can play while you drink. The food here is edible and pretty decent to be bar food, a little better than most bars. Cons: on weekend evenings it can get a little crowded and rowdy ... so be prepared for lots of energy and lots of people on a Friday evening. (Is that even a con really?) The bathrooms are a little small and uncomfortable, and hot as well. I usually walk outside once or twice for a breath of fresh air, it can get a little stuffy. Overall, Slate is appropriate for fun dates, for dancing (on weekends when the music is loud), for happy hours with co-workers, birthday celebrations etc. The environment is always diverse. You will find people of all walks of life here. Ladies, the usual attire I see at Slate is cute/casual. Some folks are in work attire after work for happy hour and later in the evenings you can pull off jeans with a cute top or when its warmer even a cute dress. Fucking love this place! I planned on proposing to my fiancée at this place. I had at least 20 people with me. Now I read a lot of reviews about the security being assholes. I'll tell you what, i dont know if it was a blessed day for me or they liked me because the security guards were incredible. When I got to the front of the line I told them I had twenty people in my party. I whispered to him that I wanted to propose to my girl and they were all my friends. They didn't give any of us a hard time... when I was getting padded down. The guard felt the box, I again whispered that I'm going to propose and it's where I'm keeping the ring. He said no problem and let me walk right in. We had NO issues with the coat check in. No one rushed us anywhere or anything. When the slide was finally opened, I was at the top of the slide with my fiancé. All of our friends were at the bottom waiting. The guards were nice enough to block everyone from going near the slide so our friends could record and watch. Right after my proposal I got a free bottle and lounge area for my party. It went amazing and I couldn't be happier that I chose this location. Oh fuck and the best part, the DJ was insane !!! He played all the classic hits from the 80s and 90s. My girl is pregnant so she can't drink. We still had an insane time because we were either dancing or playing games. The drinks were good and I didnt really spend a lot of money. They are RACIST and the staff could not give an answer when we calmly approached them and asked why the three white men in our group didn't get charged a cover charge but the two Spanish guys did. Giving one star because Yelp does not allow zero. I am wondering if the staff training includes teaching poor client experience and utter disrespect. I have never encountered such miserable, atrocious and non-hospitable staff. Every single person from the moment I walked into Slate treated me rudely and with a dismissive attitude. I am a perfectly polite person who came with a group of 30 co-workers. The hostess was rude, the bartenders were so off-putting even after being left generous tips, and the bouncers acted like President Obama's secret service with their obnoxious aggression. I am not sure why the staff is so pretentious being that their place of work is truly nothing special. Will not be returning and will be warning my network to avoid this dump at all costs. read more

I came here on a Saturday night with friends. They had a $50 bar tab requirement which you had to pay at the door, or $55 per person for bottle service. I somehow managed to get in without paying either just by saying I was with the DJ, so try that if you don't wanna pay that ridiculous price. When I got in, I went to get a drink. It took a while for the bartender to notice me but she finally did after maybe 5 minutes. I ordered a Long Island iced tea since I figured that would be worth the high price of drinks. It was $16 and honestly, I didn't even get a buzz off it. I could barely taste the alcohol which is pathetic for such a strong drink. I highly suggest pregaming or smuggling in your own shot bottles. Drinks are absolutely not worth it here. That being said, the DJ was good and I enjoyed the music and dancing with my friends, so I'm giving it 3 stars. It's a fun place but please do not pay money to get in here because it's a waste. There are so many better, cheaper clubs with good drinks in the lower east side and east village. Friday night. It's been a long week. After taking a warm post-gym shower, you find a cozy spot on your couch, and settle in for the night, looking forward to a relaxing weekend night in. 10pm roles around. Here come the text messages. "Where are you!" "We miss you!" "U out bro?" 30 minutes later you find yourself reluctantly in an Uber, meeting up with some old friends at Slate. You havn't been there in awhile, probably for good reason, but you're going for the people. Right? Plus, maybe it's changed for the better. Arrival. Fast moving, but seemingly unnecessary queue outside the venue. Overly strict TSA style security, including an extensive patdown and emptying of pockets. You are rudely ushered through despite having a friendly smile on your face. Mandatory coat check, $5. Try to sneak in your coat, and risk getting thrown out of venue. More aggressive staff members at the coat check and entrance to dance floor. Wahooo! Finally you're inside. Time to find your friends. But you can't, because of randomly closed of corridors, dark lighting (not in a cool way), and bouncers constantly telling you to "keep it moving." Found your friends. You pick up the first round. $13 for a poorly poured mixed drink that is 90% ice. More unfriendly staff members. Ugh. At a last ditch effort to savage the night, you go downstairs with your homies. This is Slate's only redeeming quality - fun games, a reasonable place to have a conversation, or even break it down when a good song comes on. You have 20 minutes of fun, and before you know it, it's 2am. You guys go downtown to somewhere cheaper, less pretentious, more fun, and end up have a great night. Slate embodies the worst aspects of nyc nightlife. Rude staff, overpriced drinks, security who takes things way too seriously. Upsides are good music, and fun games. If you're looking for a date night, double date, girls night, guys night, this is your spot. This place is literally the perfect adult game night spot. There's 2 floors filled with different games to play, followed by 2 bars on both floors. During the day this place is more chill and better for just a calm time filled w fun games and appetizers Nd good booze. At night this place turns into a sort of club scene. Theres no entry fee and they're open till 4am. There's a slide that you can slide down through to get the bottom floor! So much fun! I had such a great time. I've been both at night and daytime and because I'm not a fan of overcrowded places I prefer coming during earlier hours. They have happy hour deals during the week. My favorite part of this place is the wall full of "pour your own beer" towers. They have schofferhofer grapefruit on tap where you can pour on your own (my favorite beer and best beer ever). You simply start a tab at the bar and pour it up! This place is really great and a lot of fun, would definitely recommend it. The first time I came to Slate I was in love-- Great music, fun games of ping pong, and I was feeling good as hell! Second and third times made the charm rub off, its just kind of a spot that is super expensive for no reason and the schtick of the dancing room gets old. Truly one of the worst checkin experiences in all NYC. Arrived on a slow night and attempted to enter the local with our ID's and Proof of vaccinations. What we got instead was a lecture that we are unable to enter without a booster shot. After checking the NYC rules, no where does it say the booster is required for a fully vaccinated status. Reserved a table here for a party of 20 to celebrate my 25th birthday. The event coordinator was very lovely to work with and was very accommodating to any changes that needed to be made to my package. My reservation was from 8-10 PM which included a table, bottle service, food, and games. It was a great experience until I decided to step outside for a breathe of fresh air after being cooped up in the lower level and then on the dance floor for maybe 3+ hours. I checked with the front desk person if I was able to go out and come back in. I had a stamp and this person gave me the okay. The second I stepped outside, one of the bouncers refused to let me in. I was not belligerent whatsoever at this point of the night. I had not instigated any conflict with this bouncer or anyone else for that matter. I explained that I had a table inside with drinks and food and all my friends were still inside waiting for me to return. Several managers of Slate got involved and tried to get me back inside but had no luck. I could not return to my PAID table which still had remaining drinks and food. We spent a little less than 2k and money had to go to waste because we could not return to finish what we paid for. I would love for someone to explain why this happened. If this is how Slate treats paying customers, I CANNOT recommend this venue to anyone in the future. I reached out to the events coordinator we had interacted with for the past month explaining what had happened but she never responded to address any resolution or compensation. read more

Slate is decent for a night out, but it's nothing too special. Some nights the bottom lounge is closed, so only the dance floor is open. Ok for me, but definitely not everyone's style. The staff was friendly and the bouncers were courteous. The dancers at the front of the stage were awesome and got the crowd moving. Overall, the crowd was not the best. Many were not looking for fun and more just being grimy. Wasn't a huge fan of the people, especially for a club that has reviews claiming to be picky. The diversity here is a plus though. The service was ok. They were out of some wines and weren't able to make some of the other drinks we requested. They told us the reason for this was because they were out of it. The worst came when we were leaving. We were ordering Ubers, and a friend of mine dropped her mask, I asked if they could give her a disposable one and a whole problem ensued. The security guard pushed me and the hostess said it was disrespectful for me to ask for a disposable mask. She said it was not their responsibility to provide us with one, meanwhile we spent hundreds of dollars at their establishment and booked the space for a few hours. Ok, I'm impressed with this spot, and that's hard as I'm someone easily annoyed in club type spots but this place delivered. Came on a Friday night with friends around 9 to a. avoid paying any type of cover and b. avoid long lines it's famous for. Coat check was easy and FREE. We were interested in the downstairs area due to the games vibe, there's a variety of games but don't expect a lot of availability, my friends didn't end up being able to snap a pool table until 3 ish hours after getting there. In the meantime my other friends and I mingled and danced (downstairs at first). Drinks are what you'd expect. People that come here are diverse and pretty open to vibe which was refreshing. After making our way upstairs to check out the more club-y aspect of this spot we realized once inside you can easily head upstairs and not have to wait or pay to get onto the "dance floor"! The "club" was such a vibe, between the fun vibrancy of the space and the AMAZING D.J we were impressed and having such a great time! We did want to muse across the street at Bounce so we got stamped (for an easy re-entry); hopped across the street and after about 45 minutes decided back to Slate it was. My company rented out this entire place for our holiday party last night. Upon arriving and getting my ID scanned, the bouncers tell me that it's saying I was in a fight back in 2016 which never happened. I proceed to tell them that I wasn't in a fight at their establishment and I was there just last winter and nothing popped up then. They then tell me it's the same thing. Umm no, 2016 definitely is not 2018. There is a 2 year gap there. The bouncers then call 2 other people outside to figure out what to do and eventually they let me in with a "don't get into any fights". Yeah okay. This was all in front of a long line filled with my coworkers. When it was time to leave after the party, I go outside because my cab was coming but it was extremely cold and I still had to wait 5 minutes. I go back inside and tell the bouncers my cab is coming but it's going to take 5 minutes and it's cold so, I'm just going to stand by the door until it comes. The bouncer is furious. Telling me he wanted to lock the door then started talking to the other bouncers how I was preventing him from locking the door and complained for about 2 minutes...then proceeded to lock the door. Mind you, my other coworkers were still inside! I end up going outside because I'm not trying to be in that situation and as I'm leaving one of the bouncers tell me I can use one of the other two doors to exit. I'm confused on what the problem was since there are 3 doors and he only wanted to lock 1. The bouncers are extremely rude and don't give a great first impression. The inside is fun but the bouncers need a lesson on the challenges women go through with regard to public safety. I had pepper spray in my bag which I use when I ride the subway home at night. The bouncer took it out and immediately began confiscating it without my permission before I could even ask if he could hold onto it while I was in the club and I could pick it up when I get out. He ignored me when I did ask and got upset when I tried to take it back from their pile of confiscated items. Then he told me to go talk to the doorman about how illegal pepper spray is as I said I wanted my pepper spray back so I could leave and go home as I was not tryna go into the club and then hit the subway without some form of protection. I can understand them not wanting to let pepper spray into the venue but there's a way to enforce that in a way that is respectful and not flippant of WHY women have to even carry pepper spray in the first place. I didn't expect to have to deal with teenage boy mentalities at a 21+ venue and definitely won't be giving this place any of my money. read more

I use to come here often but last night was such a horrible experience. I arrived with a group of 10-15 to celebrate my friends birthday and was denied entry from a rude bouncer. The line was extremely long and once We made it to the front the bouncer told me "YOU'RE NOT GETTING IN WITH THOSE !!" I was wearing sandals which I never had a problem before ever and while waiting on line I was watching them let girls with flip flops and similar sandals to mine go in. So I started off Saturday night totally excited to come here. When I found out how fun this place was from instagram and from hearsay, I thought that it was going to be an epic night. I thought, hmmm indoor amusement club equals casual chic as far as the dress code is concerned. The most ridiculous experience I've ever had. We went there last Saturday for a friend's birthday and waited on line. By the time we got to the bouncer, my friend handed in her ID and she was good to go but when I gave him my ID he took a while and just gave it back to me and told me to step out of the line without saying anything. We asked the other bouncer what was going on and he checked my ID and said to go to the other bouncer in the front of the line. Both of them had no problems with my ID but the first one obviously did and didn't even scan it to check. I understand the rules and we've never been rude so not sure why the first bouncer was incredibly patronizing and rude. My friend asked him what the problem was and he said it was obviously a fake. Listen, I know I look young and have a baby face I get it, but at least scan the ID. He said I was lucky he didn't take it from me lmao, yeah and I would've called the police because he took my property and let them actually verify my age. Never going again left a bad taste in my mouth. I've never had a problem going in anywhere because the people actually take the chance to check IDs and VERIFY. We came on a quiet night (Weds) and there was a private event happening, so the few pool tables were occupied when we first arrived. And yes, we did take the slide down -- because WHY not lol. Played skeeball (first), then the basketball machine, then bowling before finally playing a few games of pool. When we asked to speak with a manager about an issue with our bill (the busboy spilled the appetizers ON our group yet we were charged for the original food and the replacement food) she became aggressive and started calling us belligerent drunks and asked for security to come over because "she's scared". We were still on our first drinks. My recommendation is to go to the sports bar across the street. Way more relaxed environment. Oh and another thing, I had an empty water bottle in my purse that the bouncer wanted me to throw away before he would let us in even though it was not disposable. Thankfully the other bouncer intervened and allowed me to keep it. Came here by accident while out with my sisters because the place next door Taj lounge was completely dead on Sunday afternoon. Anyhow we came here. It's an adult arcade type of environment. They have a 2 lane bowling area, ping pong tables, Foosball tables, giant connect four and karaoke area. There is sitting areas with TV's around. The crowd was chill. The food was good. The Parmesan fries were EXCELLENT! The drinks were pretty good too. Music was nice... hip hop but not that trap sh*t... sorry trap music lovers... . For 5 of us our bill came to almost 400 which isn't bad considering we all ordered food and drinks. It was actually the drinks that was the most. Our food was like $90 all together and the drinks were like $280... but we were being lushes so that was alright. . There's a little separate area where you have skeetball and this little basketball hoops. It's a $1 per game there. The other games ping pong etc usually u have to pay but on Sundays there FREE! My type of Sunday... There is an adjoining night club but it's only open on Fridays and Saturdays. And an adult slide that you can slide down that starts at the top when you enter the place and then you slide down to the area where everyone is at. I didn't slide but my sisters did with their goofy a**es.. . Definitely coming back with my husband for a date night. On a Sunday.. games are free then . But seriously it's nice. read more

I have been to Slate a few times over the years. My most recent visit was by far the most fun that I have had there. I went last month for our annual staff party. I see that they now have a slide, karaoke room, picture booth, and bowling alley. Wow! You guys really added some cool stuff. I went down the slide maybe 4 times lol. The food wasn't amazing but it definitely wasn't bad at all. I recommend coming here because there are so many ways to have fun. Enough choices to ensure that everyone has a good time. read more

Great atmosphere, a lot of fun. There are pool tables and table tennis down stairs which is great. It is a little pricey though especially when getting shots. Overall a good bar though and somewhere I would recommend. read more

Let me tell you about the first time a bouncer screamed at me in the street, and the outrageously rude treatment my friend and I received over a minor issue. I went though the line, showed my ID, and walked through. My friend flashed his ID, thinking that they saw it, and walked through. The bouncer, distracted and mid conversation with the other bouncer, apparently did not see his ID. The bouncer physically grabbed him, and asked him if he thought he could go through without ID. When I turned around, and asked if there was an issue, the bouncer screamed "KEEP WALKING" at me over and over again, when I was trying to explain that we came together. Eventually, after hassling him more, they eventually let my friend through. My friend is in his 30s. There's no reason for him to "sneak through." Even if he was, for whatever reason, two kids in a trench coat, the way the bouncers handled the situation was completely unacceptable. Recommendations: 1. Don't physically grab people to stop them. Talk to them as a first warning. 2. Don't scream at anyone. 3. Fire those bouncers. They have a simple job. They're not police officers, and they have no authority to touch anyone, out on a public street. That's assault. The actual experience inside the club was alright, but when the first experience was poisoned by idiot bouncers whose only form of communication is assault and screaming, maybe... don't do that? Yeah. Just don't do that. EDIT: Alex (one of their reps) reached out to me to ask more about the incident, and then... nothing. No reply, no assurances, none.
