Stopped by with friends (party of 5) on a Monday Night. They can IDs as soon as you go in. Two ways to go downstairs: normal stairs or the SLIDE. Definently have to try the slide, pretty fun. Once you are downstairs you see a big lounge with couches in the middle and Games on the sides The bar is in the back. It was free games except the arcade and bowling. You have to get the equipments from the front desk. There's three pool tables, small and giant connect 4 around the room, and three ping pong tables. Arcade room is on one side of the slide and karaoke room is on the other side bowling alley is back of the stairs. The lounge is pretty cozy and the environment is relaxing We went on a Monday night so there wasn't much people. Arcade games are about $1 to $2 except photo booth ($6). Most of them accepts coins, cash and credit. There is 3 small bowling alleys. $1 for mad game and $5 for a full game. They don't have your average bowling ball with grips. My best friend had a party here once, and she made sure to alert the front door of her name and that she had a table reserved. When I went to go in, they denied me entry even though I explained that there was an expected guest list. They gave NO explanation as to why, only looked at me with disdain and would not even look into the information I gave. After a friend came out from said group that was part of the reservation, they allowed me with as if they had never denied me in the first place. Felt like they got off on it and enjoyed as I frantically stepped to the side to call my friends to see who could come out and retrieve me. I know, sounds a little dramatic, but complete truth. So I went here last night the doorman was cool but soon as you get inside to the security who was like the biggest Dick. He told me it was mandatory cost check while shaking hands and letting friends inside with jackets and bookbags. I try to go inside with my bag and look in my face very angry and said "WHATS IN THE BAG?!" I didn't respect his disrespect towards me but I just put everything back in my car. I wish security wasn't a dickhead and letting me feel uncomfortable cause when I got inside at least 50 ppl was wearing jackets and coming down the slide in winter coats. Terrible service and terrible staff. the bus boy dropped marinara sauce all over my scarf, wallet and designer bag(I will have to bathe in clorox to ge the smell out). He chose not to inform the server. When we brought it upto her at the end of the night, she harassed my friend and called her a drunk. Then she went onto calling the security on her. This place is honestly always a blast. I recommend going around 8pm when the game area isn't too busy and try to get along with the bartender and tip well (they may give you stronger drinks!) The drinks are average ($10-$16 bucks depending what drink you get). The food was amazing and not expensive as well! The bowling is very fun and you can do a dollar per player game which is very very cheap for manhattan. The other games such as big size connect 4 and huge Jenga are free. Our waitress was amazing and I was shocked how well she handled the tables. Did I mention the HUGE club upstairs? No cover charge is always a plus as well. This place is very cool with lots of activities to do here. From ping pong, billiards, arcades, and they even have a slide you can go down! It's too bad most of the stuff were off limits when I was here as private parties took up all of the amenities but the slide. It's disappointing to read some of these reviews, its so strange that some people had such a miserable experience and i hope they see these and make proper adjustments. My experience however was wonderful, i came here with a group of about 12+ people for a friends birthday party. The staff seemed extremely friendly the whole night. We got our own private section downstairs by all the games with our own pool table which was great. The place did seem a little slow for a Saturday night but it was only 7:00pm. We had buckets of beer, a bottle of Tito's and a few platters of food for the group. Around 11:00pm we headed upstairs and got a table and a bottle in the club. The club was empty but by 11:30pm the place was packed out, honestly i was wasted and had a great time. Food: We had a platter of sliders, fries, and hot wings. All were very delicious and well needed after those buckets of beer we got. Atmosphere: Super cool, i loved all the games, although i was disappointed that Ski-ball costs money and 1 of the 2 machines were broken (no one wants to play ski-ball alone). Just make it free like the rest of the games. I think we got lucky because although later in the night more people were there but in general the place was pretty empty. There was no need to wait to play anything which was awesome! Service: Although i did not do any of the planning, i simply showed up, it seemed great! all the waitresses were very nice and everyone i had talked to was very friendly and professional. Cleanliness: The bathrooms were clean (again it was a slow night though) everything seemed clean and nice. I definitely appreciate how they prep all the game materials (paddles, balls, etc..) when no one is playing so they are continuously ready to go for the next person that walks up. We went through promoter that posts on social media. We were told to come early around 10-10:30 pm to avoid the lines.That was way early. The club was super empty, the coat check was working super slow creating a line out of nothing. There were just few people on the dance floor and the music was horrible, old and definitely not a night club music more like bar, not even a lounge. We stayed for 2 hours hoping that at least the music would change for a faster more modern beat, but it didn't happen. So we left and the line outside to get in was very long. read more

Never in my life have I paid more than $2.50 for a Bud Light bottle but here it was around $8-$10. I attended an event upstairs and the club abruptly turned all the lights on and made everyone leave the dance floor so they could clean "for the regular crowd" as if we weren't regular enough. Came here on a Monday night to watch the football game it wasn't very busy. Luckily we were offered a table. Our waitress was very attentive to us and the other tables around us. He had a few drinks and some snacks. The cauliflower pizza was much better than I expected. The chicken littles were pretty good to. They have a bunch of things to do here other than watch the game which is cool. Played connect 4 during the halftime show and they have pool tables, ping pong, foosball and a small bowling area. One night or another, I always find myself at Slate. It ain't always poppin' like you can expect at other clubs, but it is always a safe bet when you find yourself bored and want to hit up a place that is accepting of your worn-out ripped jeans, douchebag t-shirt, and sneakers because you didn't really plan on going out. Since its expansion of a few square meters, I feel like Slate has gone down. The music is terrible and it can get mundane in there. One of the reasons I liked Slate was because it was small and intimate. Now, it just looks like a music venue. On the upside, it is still relatively easy to get into (although less easier than before). They have deals going on, and their drinks are pretty fairly-priced for a nightclub ($7 for beers, $12 for well drinks), compared to many clubs around the city. Nights can be really random--one night, it can be Asian night; another night, it can be super ratchet night, so you really have to go at the "right" time, if that even exists. The dance floor is pretty huge and there are plenty of couches you can sit on. Before their recent change, the music was mostly EDM, but now it's just Z100 Top 40 on full blast. read more

On a Friday night, you can find Slate nicely full with all different people. I particularly enjoyed the slide down to the basement. From there, we were able to play large Jenga and large connect four. The vibes were chill and the music was great; there were a lot of people but it didn't feel crammed. Only reason I'm giving this place a 4-Star is that the drinks are a little expensive and it's hard to get the bartenders attention. Otherwise, I love Slate and bring all of my friends here! I went here with a group and my experience was mixed. Two bouncers outside let me in and were nice but I found their presence off-putting. There was no concert; it's just a bar and not even a really popular one; no event was there; so why the security? On a sad little street in Chelsea no less? The coat check was a nice feature and free. I don't know why they charged someone else in another review for coat check and not me, though. That's not cool. The bartenders were very nice and attentive which is very rare in NYC, let me tell you. All the food that I saw looked delicious. I overheard a bartender tell someone that they didn't have some of the drinks that were advertised, though. The games... eh... They put out Jenga and Connect Four which costs them, what, a dollar ninety eight? The slide between floors is cool but I was too scared to try. Downstairs there is one -- just one -- pinball game and it is practically broken. It is Ghostbusters. The skee-ball games also were not working too well. There is a change machine and I thought, cool, I'll play some games and get some change for the bus, and it all came back tokens which are unusable except for there. So be wary of that. The crowd downstairs was gross. One guy -- who seemed very drunk -- cursed at me and made fun of me -- and I just asked him a question about the game. He seemed overserved. There were two girls who were hogging the skee ball and then seemed to have left a puddle of something -- I hope it was liquor -- there. The crowd is young entitled milennials, and seemed heavy on the bros. I know that's not Slate's fault, but those bouncers would have been better put downstairs than outside. This is a huge space and it could be used so much more efficiently. You could have a great old-school arcade here instead of lame games and dumb bros. I won't be coming back. read more

My friend suggested that we come here for a double date on a Saturday night at 6pm, when we arrived the place was dead upstairs and had a few people downstairs playing games, the ambiance is nice and modern, also it's much bigger than it seems because some of the other sections were closed off, upstairs there's a bar area with bar tables and couches, downstairs another bar with a bunch of couches along with ping pong tables, bowling etc. There is a random slide from 2nd to 1st floor which is fun. There are cocktails here and just a few beer selections, as far as food they had appetizers, salads, sliders and fries, we had the burger sliders, arepas, empanadas and taquitos, all were appetizer sized and was enough for the two of us to share, mostly the food was pretty good, we were happy with it, as far as the games we didn't get to try any since we were talking upstairs. Slate is a sleek venue with matching chic decor too. It has a curvy long bar on the first floor and 3 plasma TVs behind the bar for catching the game. The bartenders were quick and downstairs has a large "living room" feel, with oversized leather and velvet couches and plenty of seating to be found. You are charged $17 an hour to play pool. (Ping-pong was slightly cheaper) But don't swear this place off yet, the ladies can play pool for FREE from 10pm onwards Mon-Thurs just mention yelp! I was seriously kicking myself for not checking yelp before going here, we could've used that money to buy drinks. The $12 Rocktail is made with Stoli vanilla vodka, Frangelico and Godiva liquer. I was in the mood for a dessert-like cocktail and this hit the spot. With my liquid courage in hand, I was able to shoot a ball in the corner pocket with such finesse, even I was shocked.
