My husband and I visited Slater Run on a Monday afternoon in March. I'm so glad we chose Slater Run to start off our date day. The drive to Slater Run from Herndon was beautiful and there was almost noone there on a Monday. We ordered 2 custom wine flights to split and enjoyed our flights outside with a beautiful view. We chose the blanc de blanc, pet nat rose, petit manseng, rocketfish (orange wine), cab franc, and pit jumper. All were very good, and my favorites were the blanc de blanc and rocketfish. We decided to buy a bottle of the rocketfish since it was so unique and delicious (we envision pairing this with swordfish as a treat). We unfortunately noticed on our way out that previous vintages of rocketfish were on sale that we may have gambled on (though the current vintage was made differently). Customer service was top notch; the tasting associate was knowledgeable and gave us a bonus pour of the chardonnay to try when we expressed interest. The bathrooms were also very clean. I definitely see us coming back here to try new wines, either in the summer for the beautiful views or in the winter to hopefully grab a chair by the fire. read more

Slater Run Vineyards is a hidden gem in the beautiful Fauquier County countryside. After a few visits, they greet you by first name, like at Cheers! They go out of their way to make you and your party comfortable and happy . Their wines are wonderful and compete with the best of Napa Valley. I enjoy taking visitors to spend an afternoon gazing at the beautiful rolling hills, chatting, and nibbling on their delicious assortment of foods. Having had less than good experiences at other wineries that prefer to operate like an amusement park, I appreciate their rules of no pets and you must be 21 and over to enter. The winemaker hails from France, and it shows. I have a low bar for VA wine, but Slater Run leaps wayyy over that bar. Not only is the wine delicious, the views and ambiance are incredible, and I have yet to have a server who isn't just a really kind and fascinating person. I have yet to try a wine I don't like, but I tend to like the varieties with French grapes best. The VA grapes are still solidly good, though, because the wine maker knows how to use VA grapes. Today Michael served us, and he was in the middle of a huge rush and still kept us happy. I felt so bad for him as like six or seven parties showed up all at once but he was kind and made sure he spent time checking in with us. You should make reservations. We did not, but they were accommodating when I wanted to pick up my quarterly member's wine package and do a tasting. I would have understood had they not accommodated us, though. Previously we've had Adele serve us, and a gentleman whose name escapes me but who trains horses and told us all about fox hunting. If you go on slower days their staff are just really interesting people and if they have time and interest in talking to you--do it! read more

One of the best wineries in Northern VA. It can be a little stiff sometimes service wise, but not rude or anything. I just wouldn't call them overly friendly. They are on top of things and I've never left unhappy. They especially do rose well, but reds and whites are good too. The vintner is a woman and I believe she was named top 10 in VA. We've been enjoying Slater's Run wine from their tasting room on Rt50 (next to Hunter's Head) for a few years, so we were happy that they finally built this tasting room on their vineyard nearby. We stopped in on a Sunday and did a tasting, followed by a couple of bottles and some snacks. The staff was happy we were there, even though there was no shortage of business for them. They were friendly and accommodating, as well as knowledgeable about their wine and wine in general. They offer a decent selection of treats such as cheeses, bread, olives, etc. The venue is really nicely done, except it's WAYYYYY too loud (they either need to put up signs advising others to be respectful of folks around them or put up lots of sound-absorbing material). The seating was also slightly uncomfy, as the majority of what's available in the area we sat was just hi-tops, which are far from comfy & relaxing. They do offer lots of nice seating outside and the area under the pergola would have been so much nicer if there were outside ceiling fans there, since it was hot out. But, it's clearly a work-in-progress and I'm sure it'll get better. Can't wait to return! read more

Visited this winery on a Friday afternoon. The tasting room is brand new and very nicely done. Lots of indoor seating as well as on the back patio and the grounds. Barring their Chardonnay, I liked almost all of their wines: The first white wine on their list is a French varietal and pretty unique. Even though I prefer red wines over white, I really liked this one. Their Cab Franc was good too. Very easygoing, light and very enjoyable on a hot day too. The First Bridge 2014 was a well rounded Bordeaux style blend, heavier on the cab franc. The Roots 2015 was also a Bordeaux style, heavier on the cab sauv with a dry finish. They need to do something about their Chardonnay. I found that it tasted almost like mineral water. The Rosé wasn't impressive either. All in all, a great experience and I would love to visit this beautiful winery again! read more

We visited this winery on a Saturday. Overall, the place seemed pretty quiet with lots of open space. We were traveling with our kids as we visited a few different spots. Unfortunately Slater's Run doesn't allow children, so after arriving we had to leave. It would have been helpful if Yelp had pointed out that kid's weren't allowed prior to us driving the 20 minutes or so to get here. Slater's Run did give us a pair of free tasting certificates and we'll be back at that point. read more

This family run business has several quality wines to offer and the food is very good. Both the inside facilities and the outside area are immaculate and very accommodating for small and large groups... and the scenery is just fantastic! Check their site for special programs as well! A hidden little gem in Middleburg. As someone in the industry it has some world class wines (Their Cabernet Franc and Pet Nat Rose are not to be missed) at prices that won't hurt your wallet. The location is also beautiful, and never feels busy. After touring wineries in the areas for years this is still my gold standard and top recommendation. read more

a) amazing wine. we became club members because not only was the wine delicious, the price points were excellent; b) no kids under 21 allowed. i understand the need for family-friendly spaces, but it is not unreasonable to have at least a few alcohol-oriented venues with adults-only atmospheres. We were able to sit quietly in the sunshine, enjoy our wine, and take photos of the beautiful bluebirds because it was so peaceful. Highly recommended. read more

I didn't have the wine. This review is for those who don't go to their website; not sure if other reviews mention this. They post on their website and at their gate that it is 21 or older. They mean this. No kids (not even friendly ones or cute ones or whatever ones) are allowed. Do not go up the long, hilly drive, then take the walk up the hill (there's another sign near the driveway) to ask if they will allow babies, children, teens - they won't. I guess you can try if you enjoy experimenting to know for certain, then write a post and let everyone know. ;) I didn't see dogs and the sign says 'no pets', but I wouldn't test the system. I'm gonna bet that they don't allow pets. However, to be helpful (and as I sure they get this a lot) someone handed me a sheet with a few child/pet friendly wineries in the area. Here they are: Cana Winery (Middleburg) Chrysalis Vineyards (Middleburg) Barrel Oak (Delaplane) Winery at Bull run (Centreville); note that no pets are allowed Three Fox winery (I wrote a review on them and they do allow pets/kids, and are good if you like Italian style wines; lots of room for the kids to run around) I'd also note that Breaux vineyards in Purceville allows kids (not sure about dogs) and Arterra in Delaplane allows kids and dogs; it's wooded and there's not really a 'play area' for kids, but great if you want a shady area. Wonderful visit. Beautiful vineyard inside and out. Lovely in the shade even on a hot day. Was pleasantly surprised with win quality. Sampled 6 via their 3 wine flights in lieu of a tasting (thanks covid...). Red and white were both pleasant and above average for the northern VA area. Fantastic service. Hostess was bothered because we did not have a reservation when asked so we need one she then very rudely said "we would prefer reservations". Then sat us in the worst table they had, wind blew water off the roof, and on to us. Now wet and bothered by the hostess, we asked to be moved and she never came out. We decided to leave and all we got from her was a sarcastic "goodbye" since we did not respond again sarcastically and louder she said "have good day". Not that we feel we're that important but if you can tell that your patrons are upset at minimum try to make things right. We Will not be returning here, has there are many wineries to give our Buisness to and we have many friends who's ask us which winery to go since we're often enjoying the many beautiful vineyards in Virginia. First time to this Winery and have visited world-class wineries around the world, including Italy, France, Germany, Australia, and Spain. Never have I been met with such indifference and impersonal attitude at a winery. Had a wine tasting and the wines were underwhelming, and nothing impressed my friend and I. Excessive prices. Wines are not worthy of prices charges. Each wine in the tasting lacked depth and complexity and were vintage 2020. The venue was not busy and purchased a bottle after the tasting out of pity. Bring your own charcuterie board. Had one glass from the bottle and ended up bringing it home. The server did not even open the bottle in front of us-showed us the bottle and slammed it on the table and walked off. The wine had an odor (not aroma) of soggy cardboard - at the bottom of the bottle there was significant amount of sediment, similar to small pebbles. There was no interaction from staff and we had the feeling we inconvenienced them by our presence. Do not waste your time going. Overpriced, overhyped, and completely underwhelming selection of wines. There is much that needs improvement here, starting with the staff and more importantly producing better quality wines. An absolutely phenomenal winery! Beautiful serene venue with great dry red wines done in the French style. We thought we had been to most of the wineries in the Middleburg area but happened to stumble across this one. Once there, we discovered the wine maker also works with Gabrielle Rause winery in Charlottesville, another favorite of ours. Michele, the tasting room manager, was very pleasant and engaging. We tasted several reds before settling on a bottle...before we left we decided to join their wine club! That's how special this winery is! read more

We had a group of 16 celebrating our friend's 50th birthday. His wife reserved an inside area for us to celebrate and after dropping off our food, decorations, and belongings we went outside to explore as it was a beautiful day. Several of us sat down in 2-3 seating areas as there were very few people outside maybe 6-8 at 2-3 tables. Our thought was to eat our appetizers and sandwiches as we had a one hour drive to arrive and then we could start our wine tastings. I overheard Cathy, our server speaking to my friend's wife. She told her we couldn't be wandering all over the place taking up all the outside seating and that we'd have to choose one spot and stay there. Another friend came outside to tell everyone and we moved our items from the two seating areas we were occupying to a large table. Cathy then came outside with a few bottles of wine to get us started and announced to the table that we needed to stay in this one spot, she would be the only one bringing wine to the table (we're not allowed to help), and that she had two other parties of 5 and 9 people arriving that afternoon so we needed to keep the other areas open for them. This is how she chose to welcome us to Slater Run Vineyards. As others have noted on previous reviews there are so many wonderful, accommodating, beautiful, and friendly staffed vineyards in the Loudoun area and as a group, we've been to many of them and have never had a bad experience. I would have given this zero stars if possible, the wine was okay, and the other two parties never materialized while we were there. We arrived about 1:00 and left at 4:00. Have been visiting VA vineyards for 30 years. Some have been good, some not so much. Slater Run takes top honors!! VA is known for whites, and Slater's are among the best, but their reds are very worthy of note as well. We had 4 flights and settled on a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc as it stood out to my wife as the best of the whites. Our server, Michael, announced himself as our facilitator of drinking, and he handled it very well. He was knowledgable of the wines, and willing to engage with my brother who is very experienced professionally with wine. He also introduced us to Kiernan, one of the owners, who chatted with us for nearly a half hour...overall a wonderful experience at a vineyard with top notch wines. Their winemaker is from France and her knowledge and experience shines through. Overall a 5....so just go here and have wine, you will not regret it...And if you have questions, just ask Michael or any of the staff and they will guide you well. read more

We stopped at a wine store and tasting room in Upperville (The Local Taste) where they recommended checking out Slater Run Vineyards and we are glad they did. We turned down a small road off of Highway 50 then up a hill to get to the winery. After a couple of minutes we arrived at an amazing setting with a view over the vineyards. The tasting room itself has a modern, clean feel with a lot of natural light due to the many windows (they told us it is brand new). There is also a large outside patio with great views. But of course we were there to taste the wines. We tried the chardonnay, the rosé, and two of their top reds (Bordeaux blends called Roots and First Bridge). We were impressed across the board and ordered a mixed case to take home. At the risk of over generalizing, the style felt like a nice mix between old world and new world; some fruit flavor but not over the top in an oaky, buttery (white) or jammy (red) way. One of the owners was working behind the bar and being able to talk to her and hear the story behind this relatively new winery was a big plus. Highly recommended. read more
