We spent a few days in Fauquier County region and were able to check out some new wineries as well as a few favorite. Crimson Lane was one of the new spots and is now a favorite. Off the beaten track and up on hilltop with beautiful views, this winery is AMAZING! Tastings are table side with knowledge staff guiding you. They offer both their own estate wines as well as an assortment from VA and around the world. Their wines were well balanced with layers of flavor, depth and long finish. My favorites were the Petite Verdot and Sauvignon Blanc It is best to make a reservation. They also have a food menu. We did the 2 estate tastings, several glasses and shared a burrata. I could have stayed all day! **I will preface this by the fact that for once in my life, I did not do my due diligence and research the wineries rules and regulations before coming. The review does not reflect the fact I did not get to try their wine, but rather the way I was treated when I attempted to plan a trip to visit the "right" way** We were driving past this spot on a nice Sunday, coming home from a family lunch, and thought why not stop in? I did not have a reservation because (as mentioned above) I wasn't aware of needing one and I wasnt sure when I would be able to stop in as I was just passing by (we live 1+ hour away). As we pulled into the long dirt road, the front gates have no clear sign that says 'By Appointment Only' - perhaps a good add before your clients drive up a steep unpaved road to just be turned away. None of the vines appeared to be in use so the drive up may be more beautiful one day when the grapes are on the vines. The parking lot is a bit cramped and full of fancy cars, giving us a taste of the type of clientele that would be inside. We came in and I inquired if I could do a wine tasting. The staff member told us we needed a reservation but that he would do his best to try to see if they had space - totally fine. My mistake again- I did not realize that this winery required reservations (no other winery I have been to in Charlottesville, Middleburg, or NOVA has done so) so my first assumption wasn't that I needed a reservation. Again, no sign at the front that says this and would have saved me time. The space was obviously gorgeous, the views spectacular and it felt very Napa and upscale. The staff member returned back and told us they couldn't accommodate us- ok, disappointing but ultimately is what it is. I asked the two staff members standing there how early they recommend making reservations, as we dont live in the area so I need to plan ahead. They told me it was hard to tell but that basically any time it's warm, it will be hard to get a reservation and that "Saturday visits are a pipe dream" and Sundays are "pretty impossible too". They then kindly told me "you could try to snag a reservation maybe a Thursday or Friday". Mind you, their hours are 12-5 on Thursday/Friday...I live an hour plus away, let alone with traffic. I guess my only options are to take off work to come visit as it seems there will be no chance for me to ever get a reservation for 2 on the weekends.... Needless to say, it felt like the staff really could care less for our future business and we politely left. The staff did not offer to help us book a future reservation or anything of that nature - just a snooty response that I probably shouldn't bother every attempting to return on a weekend. Hilarious enough, I decided to look up their website and low and behold - they had tasting reservations that same day at 3 PM (45 minutes after we first asked about a tasting) - no offer to us to wait or come back to return, just basically turned away. Cherry on top- they have tons of reservations open for future Saturdays and Sunday. If you don't want my business, you dont have to tell me twice. If I want to deal with pretentious folks, I'll fly to Napa and drink wine actually grown onsite. read more

Our visit to Crimson Lane Vineyards was truly amazing! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed, and the interior was elegantly decorated and thoughtfully furnished. It's very sophisticated, one of Virginia's premier wineries for sure. We had reserved an estate tasting and complemented it with a cheese board. The wine was superb, and paired so well with fresh bread and cheeses. The service was attentive and professional and we had a very pleasant time. This place was lovely went here for my birthday an enjoyed myself it was a bit a drive. The road eventually became gravely so if you plan to travel make sure your vehicle is in good shape. But it was certainly worth the drive. The view of the mountains were amazing. It did pour down raining but it was beautiful after. The wines were good but the moscato was so delicious very sweet . Just visited Crimson Lane yesterday afternoon tasting. We opted for the tasting at a table indoors. There are also options for tasting at the bar, sitting outside on the porch with a view or in a private room. The tasting room is absolutely beautiful and gives for an elevated experience. Additionally, the views are breathtaking! Now to the wine--you can choose between a $45 (estate tasting with a mix of white and red) vs a $65 tasting (all red). Both tasting options start off a pour of Thibaut-Janisson Extra Brut, the only wine that is not made on their estate as they do not produce a sparkling wine. I opted for the red wine tasting. Our server was knowledgeable and very informative about each wine effortlessly. He did a great job of taking his time and not rushing us, but the minute I was done with one wine, he'd be right there with the next one. The highlight of the tasting for me was 2021 Syrah and the 2021 Petit Verdot. We also ordered some food including the empanadas and the burrata. The scenery surrounding the property was serene with the fall colors of the trees and a really nice day for November. We reserved a tasting room for 10 people and got a private wine tasting that included a small tour of the property where we were told about the history of the vineyard. The tasting included either all white wines or a mixture of red and white wines. These wines were accompanied by small food bites. You can also order food off their regular menu during the tasting. This winery has some positives and some negatives. First positive, they have electric car chargers. We did not have a reservation, however they had plenty of room. We were told at the front desk that this would take 2 hours and we could either choose a white flight or red. There were only 5 on each flight. 5 tastings for 2 hours? We didn't have that kind of time. So she said, we could do our own time but we would have to spend $60 each person. Wow ok. The waiter was definitely on his own time and while we were treated with a sample of sparkling wine, after 10 minutes we heard nothing from him. We actually ordered a charcuterie board from a different server. When we finally called him over, he seemed bothered by us...We told him we were not doing the tasting and wanted to order a bottle. That took another 10 minutes just for the bottle. (It wasn't crowded as it had just opened). Our charcuterie board came and was quite dug into by the time the wine showed up. I can't imagine how incredibly boring and tedious the long tasting would have been. The wine we had was absolutely delicious. So good, we took another bottle with us. We took our bottle outside and enjoyed the beautiful views and day. Something I would definitely do again. Now for the worst negative of the entire time and why this place is getting 3 stars. Indoors, We were seated next to the bar and I witnessed a female server (white shirt) pouring the leftover wine bottles into bottles that had more wine. She pulled another employee (black shirt) over to help hide her. I'm not sure if this is a practice that the management encourages, or something this female was doing, but the practice of pouring the end of an old wine bottle into a fresh one presents several risks. After observing this, I was so glad that we had not done the tasting. So I can definitely recommend the wine, IN BOTTLES. But... Tasting: $65 for 4 reds, $45 for 3 whites + one red. 2 hr block. Wines were comparable to others in the area. 1 tasting of wine every 20 mins or so. By the time we tried to order a glass it was over 2 hours so the end of our service time. It took about 15 mins after that for the staff to decide if we could sit inside b/c of their reservation only system. By that time we gave up lol and opted to leave. I don't blame our server. One person doing multiple, different types of tastings at several tables is going to lag. She did her absolute best!! That's a set up issue or maybe lack of staff, not on the server. I think it would be better to do your tastings at the bar area (or designate a tasting area) so it moves quickly and then guests can move to their tables for the rest of their time. Also allows people to book only a tasting or tasting + table so you can offer different pricing tiers & sell more. I frequent several wineries in the area often and this is the first time I didn't leave with bottles. A sample, to me, doesn't give me a full enough experience to determine if I want to buy. Such a beautiful place! Took a ride this afternoon to enjoy an afternoon of wine tasting with my hunnie. We arrived on time for our reservation and were greeted with a smile. Gorgeous grounds and beautiful aesthetics. We were seated comfortably inside which gave more of a restaurant feel vs a winery vineyard. The outside patio area unfortunately wasn't available when I made reservations but for the cloudy foggy day we had today, inside was perfect. Our tasting included 5 wines and 4 of them were produced by the winery itself however my favorite wasn't. It was a Virginia wine, Chardonnay and one they were promoting. I enjoyed it because it was bubbly. Besides what was offered on the tasting menu and about 5 other promotions this place didn't really give much of a variety of options. As for food options, paring options you didn't really have much to choose from. I would've appreciated a fruit and cheese plate to enjoy with the wine. We ordered the Bruschetta and Brie & an order of empanadas. I enjoyed the Bruschetta...the empanadas I could only eat the Corn and Cheese one and it was OK. My husband said the other 2 were good... Service was obtuse and confusing and it didn't need to be. Also many times we waited much longer than we should have for our server to show up. Very slow and poor table service. When we arrived there were menus for multiple different tastings on the table. My wife would have preferred the tasting that she didn't get. The server just started one of the tastings without even asking us what we wanted. Could we have gotten the other tasting? Who knows? Why did they even provide multiple tasting menus if they were just going to give us the one they wanted to give us? I didn't even want a tasting as I prefer to drink wine by the glass but she started a tasting for me anyway. The cheese and meat platter was fantastic. When we were done the server hovered over me after bringing the appliance to pay. VERY RUDE. I was extremely turned off and though I liked the wine and cheese/meat platter as well as the atmosphere the service was pushy and hovering over me as I am paying the bill is extremely off-putting. I will not be back. Also, the deposit was refunded instead of being applied to the bill. Didn't make any sense to me, why not just apply it to the bill? Absolutely lovely! We ended the day on the swings. This afternoon my husband and I came and had the reds tasting. None were a particular favorite but the Petit Verdot and 2021 Parral did not disappoint. We had the empanadas and the Brie and bruschetta; both very delicious. The water service was slow. We needed refilled several times and waited awhile for her to come back around. I don't understand why they can't just leave a whole bottle at the table? Seems reasonable for a 2 hour booking. We also thought the wine was overpriced; $98 for a bottle of Parral??? $76 for the Petit Verdot? We're in central VA, people. The only other con is the unpaved road. To pour this amount of aesthetic and ambiance into a place without a paved road is a little odd. Maybe they are working on it? Not sure. Hopefully when we return this will be different! When my husband and I made the booking for our anniversary, we could only book a table in the tasting room because the patio was full. I sent an email asking if we could be moved to the patio if a table became available. Sure enough, we got a response that we'd been moved. The tasting room is beautiful. I came here a few months ago with some friends to enjoy a wine tasting. It was the first visit for all of us to this fairly new winery. Reservations are a must as they provide a more upscale experience. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the host and promptly taken to our seat outdoors on the patio. We walked through the indoor tasting room on our way and I noticed plenty of beautiful soft seating spaces that would be perfect for enjoying sips of wine with groups of friends. They also had some private and semi-private spaces that you could book. Tastings are start at $45 per person, which may seem a little pricey for the Virginia area but once you go you'll understand that you are getting what you pay for. Be sure to make a reservation online in advance and review their policies pets, children, and group size so there are no surprises. Overall the main building was very chic and the surrounding landscapes were stunning. It really looked like no expense was spared when designing this property. Now, for the wine. I really liked that the owner came by and introduced himself before we even got started. It was really nice to chat with him about their winemaking philosophy as well as their history. Our actual server was incredibly knowledgeable and well-trained in all things wine, and told lovely stories about each wine. We were brought a drink of sparkling wine to start, and then we moved into their mixed flight tasting. Highlights for me included the chardonnay, the petit verdot, and their signature Bordeaux-style blend known as The Parral. In the end the 2021 Parral was my favorite and I purchased a bottle to take home with me. I would highly recommend this to anyone that appreciates a more elevated tasting experience. Perhaps I missed previous mention of what the tasting included but if you're sitting at the bar it does not include food. Luckily our waiter was able to find a table for us to have some food. The tasting was about $55 and included 1 bubbly, 2 whites and 2 reds. The waiter was knowledgeable about each wine and explained the notes very well. We ended up ordering the last red we tasted. The name escapes me but it was $80. I believe this is the most expensive wine they carried. It was steep but it's the one we liked so we ordered it. Now onto the food... it was very disappointing. The empanadas are $21 for 3 (beef, chicken and corn). You're unable to mix and match so if you're vegetarian or don't eat beef you may have to find something else to order. They were very bland and the sauce they came with was very bland. It definitely wasn't worth $21. We were told they come from a local place and aren't made in house. Next we ordered the Brie and bruschetta toast. As you can see from the photo, it's very much giving Brie toast with chunks of tomato. Had this been executed with real bruschetta this could be a hit. It had potential but it too was bland and the cheese was somewhat cold. Overall I would return but I may stick to the normal foods ordered at a winery: charcuterie boards! Heard about this place on social media. Thought we'd give it a try. We are pretty well seasoned wine lovers and typically don't like Virginia wines, but the reviews had us intrigued. What a beautiful place! Literally the tasting room is stunning. Designed by Napa Valley architects, its clean lines and warm ambiance create an upscale yet relaxed atmosphere. The wines did not disappoint. And like all wines, it's a very individual taste. Some we felt were better than others but we'll let you make that call. What we loved most was pairing the wines with their food selections, which were a cut above most VA wineries. Ken, the General Manager, and Chris, our server were true hosts making the experience even more enjoyable. What a gem! I wasn't sure if this was going to live up to the hype on social media, but it was so worth checking out. It is on the pricier side, but you're paying for the customer service and aesthetic beauty.. while sitting at your leisure by the beautiful scenic mountainside. I'm glad we chose the table for the tastings over the patio area because of the cold winds, and we were still able to enjoy the amazing view. My hubs and I did both the red and white tastings- in our opinion, the whites were far tastier with the barrel-aged chardonnay being our favorite.. especially paired with the Appalachian cheese. Highly recommend the cheese plate as it featured foods from Europe, Australia, and local regions. The goat and feta blend was absolutely fantastic! Christine was so welcoming and helpful when it came to our many questions. The general manager even came over when we inquired about membership (FYI, there's already a waitlist). Had a really great visit here with a group Of friends. We did their wine tasting and ordered a few apps to share. The apps were all good. Make sure you order the cheese cake . Now for the real reason we all go there, the wine of course. We tried 7 wines, combinations is reds, whites and one dessert wine that was not on the menu. They really make some Great WINE! There are so many verities in the wine so there is something for everyone to have as a favorite. The service was also exceptional. Our sommelier David was so amazing. Made our experience really positive. Lastly, you'll enjoy their very nice ambiance and decor. Comfortable, clean with really great views. The drive wasn't as bad as you would think if you're coming from the DC/Pg county area. Personally I think the earlier the better at-least in the summer but I think the fall is probably the best time to come so you can drive and see the leaves changing colors and maybe even take a hike after. When we got there the weather was perfect and not too hot. Driving in you have the opportunity to see a good amount of vineyards that will thankfully be explained to you during your tasting. We sat at the bar and Ken was amazing he gave us so much detail about how the wines are made, when they were made, the types of soil and barrels and so much more. I've been to several wineries and this is probably the best tasting I've had so far. This winery is on the top of my list, I want to talk about it so much more but then I would just ruin it for whoever's reading it ! Basically come over to crimson lane you'll have such a great experience and you can genuinely spend a day here. The information you really want to hear ! Reservation ONLY !!! they want to make this as personal as possible for you ( everyone knew my name and it made me feel special like they were preparing just for me lol) $45 pp for the bar tasting as well as the table. You can sit indoors or outside I recommend trying both honestly (the architecture and decor is to die for ) the tables can fit up to 6 people which I think is worth it. If you have a large party they do have elevated tasting for around $90/pp but this includes 6 different wines ( a few exclusive ones) as well as a tour of the winery which I personally think is worth it. They also have a members club where you can come I believe as regularly as you would like maybe shoot them a email or call them about this. Make sure you take some time to relax and leave the kids at home ! Spend sometime with yourself there's so many people to meet. When we came at 1130 there were a lot of people on solo dates and this is the best place to do it in my opinion or tell meet up with your bestfriend , significant other, or a group of friends that you know you need to hang out with! I know your curious but please leave your pets at home this time. This is a special time for you to decompress and enjoy yourself. Sauvignon blanc 2021 great paired with smoked/grilled food. It was clean and crisp and so refreshing. It's the perfect summer wine it's refreshing. Sadly it's only one bottle per person because I would've bought 6 and gifted 3 of them it's literally soooo good. Even my spouse whose not big on wine bought a bottle because he liked it so much. We tasted two different Chardonnay's one produced in stainless steel and the other which started from stainless steel then was transferred to a new French oak barrel and man oh man you can really taste the difference. Ken really explained perfectly what food pairs with what wine and also his personal favorites. My favorite wines were the Sauvignon blanc , the 2019 parral named after the city where a lot of the amazing folks who make this wine possible are from. The collina ??? My goodness may be the best wine I've ever tasted. I can't wait until the fall so I can get a few bottles i can't even explain it but please know it's amazing. One of the newest winery hot spots in Northern Virginia, this place has it all. Gorgeous views of the mountains in delaplane, beautifully designed tasting room and outdoor patio, and good wine. Make a reservation for outdoors if you can get one. Inside is fine, but it feels more like a nice restaurant than a winery. Or the sunroom areas are also nice. There is limited "drop in" spaces, so make sure you book a reservation. Note: skip the spot immediately next door. It's a little trashy and you do a tasting in a kitchen. read more

Recently, I had the pleasure of enjoying a perfect afternoon with family at this beautiful vineyard that was filled with a wonderful wine tasting adventure. I must say that the experience exceeded my expectations. From the moment of driving up to the breathtaking location, I was captivated by the awe-inspiring views. Needless to say, I was impressed and eager before entering the building. Upon arrival, we checked in for our reservation, which required a small, but reasonable wait. Shortly thereafter, we were escorted to our outdoor table. From our table, we were able to take in awesome views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Honestly, the experience could have stopped at the views and I would have been satisfied. Once seated, the wine glasses were strategically placed on the table along with a bottle of water and water glasses. The food menu and wine list were also placed on the table. The sommelier came over to the table, introduced himself and set the tone for the experience. As we embarked on the wine tasting experience, I was eager to see how it would unfold. During the tasting, we enjoyed six wine selections. For each wine, the sommelier provided characteristics of each, such as unique flavors, aromas and origins etc. Of the six wines, the sixth selection was my favorite. For my preference, the 2022 Petit Manseng offered the right amount of sweetness in comparison to the others, which were semi to very dry. Overall, the wine tasting experience was made exceptional by the fusion of wine education and ideal location. The food menu was somewhat limited, especially for those who are not meat and cheese lovers. However, the hummus and pita bread were outstanding. The hummus was some of the best that I have ever tasted. The soft pillowy pita bread was the perfect accompaniment to this very flavorful appetizer. The ambiance was amazing. The weather made for an ideal day for outdoor seating. The covered patio blocked direct sunlight, which resulted in a pleasant summer breeze. Crimson Lane Vineyards was indeed a sight to see! The food menu had great options and paired well with selected wine for our tasting. The customer service was delightful and professional, we appreciated this treatment. I cannot explain in words or photos the breathtaking views and the decor, you will just have to go see it for yourself! However, make sure you make a reservation, deposit required. An absolutely beautiful winery that just opened this past March. The inside architecture is gorgeous, and even with it being a tad foggy, the outside views were great! This place requires reservation, but we were in the area last Sunday and stopped by to see if they had an availability. Luckily, we were able to sit mid-afternoon with little wait! We ordered two wine tastings ($45/pp) and Brie and Bruschetta ($24). The 4 wines included were a 2021 Sauvignon Blanc, a 2019 Chardonnay, a 2019 Barrel-Aged Chardonnay, and a 2019 Parral. The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc was our favorite and we ended up ordering another glass ($13). Overall, a little on the pricier side (4 tastings for $45, while a few months ago- it was 6 tastings for $35), but it was still a great experience and vibe.
