Food here is so good. I love a few blocks away and I can smell them smoking their meat. There food is fresh and never major processed. It is a little expensive but their portions are large, they stack the meat onto the sand which. My favorite is trip tip sandwich. This is always a good last minute lunch idea. Some down side is that they run out of stuff. They have said that they stay open until they sell out which means the food is good but don't ever count in get a specific thing! read more

I've heard the fare is excellent but I am not the only one who wishes they'd rename the business. Slick Fork doesn't sound appealing. Most people don't associate barbecue with a fork initially, and slick sounds like slimy and just isn't a name that represents the quality and appeal of the product. It's my two cents. Stopped by the other day and was introduced to Slick Fork BBQ by my son Mat. When we first pulled up it was nothing exceptional but as I opened the car door I was lured in by the sweet sweet smell of smoke. What I liked about the menu was that it wasn't overwhelming but had just enough choices to satisfy any bbq craving. I ordered the brisket sandwich, baked beans, and cowboy corn. The brisket was juicy, tender with a few caramelized pieces and perfectly smoked. The bun was fresh but held the meat, juices, and bbq sauce together all the way to the last bite. The baked beans were perfectly cooked with the right amount of seasoning and a few pieces of bbq beef added. Just when I thought my meal couldn't get any better I tasted what might very well be the best corn I have ever experienced in my life. The corn, which must have been freshly shucked, was mixed in with a creamy, cheesy, just slightly spicy mixture of deliciousness. Each kernel of corn bursting with sweet flavor. My wife absolutely loves GREAT BBQ, and I can't wait to bring her here! I was distraught when Earls BBQ in Denair closed a few years ago. Small town, we were just passing through. This is THE SPOT!! Husband got the tri tip sandwich and I had to go for the brisket, we also tried the potato salad and corn bread. Hands down the best brisket I've ever tasted!! Husband does work all over the country and said it's even better than in Texas! Everything is made with love and it shows, and that BBQ sauce is the right mix of saucy and spicy!! I'm not sure how many people look forward to going to modesto (unless you live there), but I was. You hughson, ca is a hop, skip and jump from modesto, the home of spilt fork bbq. I loves me some bbq and heard and read nothing but good about this place, and I agree. Had some brisket, as good as I've ever had. Tasty rub, nice smoke, thick cut and fork tender. Potato salad reminded me of deli style potato salad, which is ok with me, sauce is pretty tasty, I would like a little more heat, but that not stopping me from coming back. Not sure if I came on off day but chicken sandwiches were cold. The flavor of the meet was delicious but as a combination with a sand-which it any bbq sauce or no pickels. There was so much meat on my sandwich that i had to eat some of the meat off to be able to fit the sandwich in my mouth! haha! The brisket was just falling apart... it was amazing. Hands down best BBQ in the surrounding area!! Ribs are beyond delicious and are very soft, moist, and flavorful and they actually do "fall of the bone!" I enjoyed the corn bread but want to try the Mac n cheese next time around if they aren't sold out. The cobbler does taste like it's been next to the smoker though, so was not a fan of that. read more

Very expensive for very mediocre food. We paid $69 for 3 sandwiches, 4 small sides and 3 drinks! My jaw dropped when she told me the total. Plus they were put of a ton of menu items. So I got a brisket sandwich, my son and husband got the pulled pork. My brisket was very slimy, greasy and full of fat. The bun is not good quality so it fell apart almost immediately when you pick up the sandwich. The boys reported that the pulled pork was very dry. The sauce, however was pretty good. The only complaint about the sides are their is way too much juice in the beans. I probably got 5 or 6 spoons full and for $4 a pop i expected more. And also the coleslaw is 99% red cabbage, gross! So over all super disappointed in this place. Lt could be so much more. I defiantly won't return. read more

It's a very smokey flavor so for me PERSONALLY I wasn't into it. It wasn't BAD that's just not what I prefer. Although my 10 year old got like a pulled pork hamburger that was really good and the cornbread was so good except that had a smokey flavor too :/ but it was still good if it didn't have that smokey tone hands down would be my favorite corn break for sure! Another hidden gem in the 209 out in the city of Hughson...wow. On our Sunday family outing we decide to go to Resendiz Family Farm for some fruit empanadas...GPS detours us thru Modesto on I-5. (Normally we take 120) So we decide to see what's good out here and we find Slick Fork BBQ in Hughson...they definitely have the goods. Sweet 12lb Baby Jesus! Actually 1/2 lb brisket and 1/2 lb tri-tip! Nice tender tri tip and brisket. Not too saucy, fork tender bbq. However they cook this meat, is just magical. Like a unicorn was sitting at the smoker making sure the meat cooked perfectly! Let me talk about some sides...cowboy corn was delicious! Brisket bowl, "aka Brisket Mac n Cheese" killed my tastebuds in the best way possible. Beans were good, cole slaw was nice! Ok, I don't normally rave about sides but the cornbread was beyond awesome, sweet, nice texture...golden awesomeness! I could probably go on for hours raving about this spot...go NOW to Slick Fork and get you some BBQ that will leave you in the best food coma of your life! Off the hook brisket! All I had was the brisket sandwich, which was stacked with mouth watering brisket sky high. Worth every penny. This is the real deal here, a carnivore paradise! Honestly the best small bbq joint I've been to in maybe ever. They have the seal of approval for brisket which is very hard to do in my husbands eyes. I'd say so far it's the best thing about the surrounding Turlock area! Prices aren't outrageous and the portions are generous. Our family favorites are the mac and potato salad. Let me start by saying that on my way to work in the mornings I can smell the sweet smell of bbq coming from this place, we decided to give the slick fork a try today (me and 5 of my co workers) we usually don't eat lunch so early in the day (11am) but we were told from others who have tried it and said it was amazing that they sell out fast so we took a chance and tried it ourselves and OMG the food there is amazing just like others said, the brisket just melts in your mouth, the cobblers are just the right consistency of flavor, we tried all the sides and they were also delicious, very flavorful. This is our new go to place for lunch. If you are looking for flavorful/delicious bbq this is the place for you. People complain about prices but go ahead and go to a restaurant and pay 25+ for a steak that's cooked mediocre or go to slick fork and get the best slow smoked meat around for miles for half that price!!!
