Gold Bowl has become one of those spots I can count on here in Hughson. The food is always hot, fresh, and way better than you'd expect from a small-town place. Their garlic chicken is legit one of the best things on the menu, and the orange chicken, chow mein, and fried rice never miss. Even the pot stickers and crab rangoon hit the spot. Food was amazing! After my husband and i's favorite Chinese restaurant closing, we've been on a hunt to find a new place. A 16 drive from my home, I was set! The place is very clean and comfortable, with a mix of nostalgic feel and a modern look. The wait staff was quick and attentive, our cups always full. We had hot tea as well and it was very tasty. We ordered the sweet and sour chicken, beef chow fun, mushroom chicken, and steam rice. Everything tasted fresh and the sweet and sour chicken had a nice crunch, the mushroom chicken was tender and flavorful, the chow fun was amazing and definitely one of the best I ever had, and the the rice was perfect. Wow! Came to Hughson for a high school football game and decided to try the Golden Bowl for the first time and we are hooked! Excellent customer service with attentiveness and constant refills. Truly felt welcomed! The pork fried rice was phenomenal as the sweet and sour chicken where it actually tasted fresh! You need to try the potstickers (first time eating it) as they are homemade. Order for take-out. The Mongolian beef and beef chow fun both had beef extremely overcooked and therefore flavorless. Kung pao chicken had hardly any chicken, was not spicy and was flavorless. I have never seen such small take out boxes before! The portions were extremely small. I've enjoyed the food here before, but I'd hesitate about returning. Take out total was almost $110 and due to the extremely small portions and poor quality of the food I do not recommend this restaurant. Very disappointing. read more

I'm writing this review at the risk of a ton of people showing up and ruining my spot. I have had almost everything on the menu. Nothing is bad. It's all good! I can't even eat Chinese Food anywhere else now. Everything in this place is made in house and made fresh. We take the kids and they inhale anything from here. Sweet and sour sauce is always sweet and a little tangy. Hot and sour soup is hot and hearty. Gyoza is unlike any I've ever had. All made fresh in house. Bonus- we usually order the walnut honey prawns, salty spicy squid, orange chicken, ginger beef, and the chicken wings is usually the big order we place for our family. I love the ladies here. They're not some 20 something servers. These ladies have seen some shit and they are the best aunties/ Nanas/memaw/mamas you will ever meet. Don't mess with them because I bring them Mother's Day gifts. These people are a treasure to Hughson! The inside is legit 70s-90s Chinese food restaurant style. They have a couple large tables that have gigantic lazy Susan in the middle. It can sit 8-14 comfortably. We brought 14 a few times. Don't be afraid to try it all. read more

The rudest person in the front. My wife ordered 2 items, and without ring anything up or looking out way she suits $35, when we point out in the menu that they were $11 items she snaps back TAXES. Well after moving here we heard it was a great place. Same people who ran China Gourmet 35 years ago in Modesto. Food is hit or miss at best and prices were inflated. We called yesterday for a lunch special and he quotes us $17.92 for a lunch special. Let me say it's lunch there is no special. They have raised prices again trying to price gouge the locals. 18 bucks for mediocre sweet and sour chicken with rice is ridiculous. Never again will I pay or eat here. There is Asian Bistro just down the street does Sushi and Chinese. They are way nicer, food taste as good or better and their Sushi is amazing. Keep your shitty food and your outrageous prices. When asking why the price was so high owner replied in a rude manner because I wanted to. Do yourself a favor and go to Asian Bistro. I have friends that travel from Patterson to eat here but I will make sure they know about Asian Bistro moving forward. If you want to travel to Modesto go check out the Chinese place on Coffee and Briggsmore. They have the best chow mein, honey walnut prawns and everything else. Huge portions I mean huge portions and quality all at a fraction of the cost. This clown in Hughson is laughing at all you locals while raking in the dough. read more

Wow, new found Chinese restaurant for us. Recently moved to Modesto and trying new restaurants to find the best. Golden Bowl is by far the best. We've tried in Oakdale and thought that was good, this one is #1. Exceptionally clean and fresh. The cleanest restaurant I've ever been to, same with the bathroom. Especially nice since I'm elderly and disabled, the bathroom matters. The waitress and waiter are very friendly and attentive. It's like going home to see family. They interact with the customers and I love the joking around, made it a nice relaxing afternoon for some excellent food. Our new go to for Chinese food. Thank you for the nice experience. read more

Best Chinese food in Northern Cali! Sizzling rice soup, spicy green beans, lemon chicken and honey walnut shrimp are my favorites.

I have been a patron of over 20 years. Always a cheerful greeting and always a great food. My ex-wife was from Guilin China. She lived there food. Have some patience when they are very busy!! Sometimes they have more to-go orders than dine-in.
