Slife is amazing for their ongoing great service of my furnace and air conditioning, both are old. It was pointed out that the outdoor box on the house that connects to a.c. unit had some browning on the inside door which could have continued into a real fire! A new box was installed and electrical adjusted safely. I'm so thankful for him recognizing it and both men did a great job cleaning out and servicing the unit! We got a same day call-out because our heat stopped working. The technician arrived super fast and explained everything. Super simple fix, but I never would've figured it out myself, and the fee was VERY reasonable. Fantastic!! Woke up to our heater not coming on properly and a freezing house. Called them at 8am, Service Tech was here by 9:30am and was the nicest man. He explained the issue, could not have been nicer, fixed the heater and had us back up and running, warmly, in under an hour. The service call was in my opinion incredibly inexpensive for same day amazing service. I cannot recommend them enough. The office isn't warm & fuzzy but that's a tough job and everyone wants everything yesterday they have to sort through true emergencies & just impatient people. I've known Dave Slife for decades, and I wouldn't trust my heating and cooling needs to anyone else. Dave runs a tight ship, his office staff are friendly and polite, and his technicians are knowledgeable on top of that. A good 15 years ago we installed an entire house HVAC system including adding new runs to the second floor, all on the advice of Dave. He put in a zone system so that we had thermostats on the first and second floors, a rarity in Lakewood. He put in excellent energy efficient equipment and his technicians were thorough. We could not of been happier, because the second floor is as equally cool as the first. We have Slife heating and cooling out to service our system twice a year, once to prep for winter, once to prep for summer. This helps keep our system in great shape and alerts us to any problems coming up, and the Slife techs always show us what they mean rather than just talking circles around our heads. I am so comfortable with Slife, that I will leave my door unlocked and they will service the unit when I am not home. That says a lot. It's hard to trust people these days. We've had a few emergencies here in there we're heating or cooling has stopped responding. They've always been small issues, a blown fuse, a compressor kit that needed to be installed, but Slife is always been quick to serve another very reasonable price. Plus, he is a pillar of the community. He's on the auxiliary police force, and every time a the Lakewood schools ask him for a donation, he is Johnny on the spot. There is no higher recommendation I can give to Slife heating and cooling. We're lucky to have them in Lakewood. read more

I gave the company 2 stars because their technicians are first rate. They've done my pre-season tune-up on my boiler for 6 years and serviced it well. I have absolutely no complaints about their ability to service my equipment, effectively, efficiently and friendly. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for their management. I called more than a month ago to have a radiator disconnected, as I was having a new floor installed. I made no less than 8 phone calls trying to get this accomplished...without ever receiving a return call! After making my final call expressing my dissatisfaction, I did receive a return call from the "office", not the owner, stating they couldn't complete work within my time-frame! I guess a 4 weeks notice isn't enough. From now on, I'll go elsewhere...for ALL my heating needs... read more

Last week Jim Koenig from Slife came over to write up an estimate for a complete new HVAC system. We were getting proposals to replace the system since our usual company had come out and told us our 36 years old furnace needed a new board, an $1,800 job to repair. But Jim was curious about that diagnosis, so he got a voltmeter out of his truck, did a little troubleshooting, and determined that a $22 transformer had blown. Within 30 min, he went out to get the replacement transformer, installed it, and fixed the problem! All told, a $117 repair! We're only going to use Slife for our HVAC systems from now on! read more

They recently installed a nice new furnace in my Mom's house and the money saved monthly in heat is already recouping the costs rapidly. I've called Slife a few times and always have had excellent service! One time it was the dead of winter and I was pregnant and our furnace stopped working on a Sunday night. As you can imagine, the expletives were flying! Slife came out and fixed our issue and it was very reasonable in cost. They even showed my husband what to look for the next time to cut down on diagnosis time and how to replace the thing that broke in case it happened again. While having a new roof with tear off this summer, the roofers put a large board on top of my air conditioner condenser to keep debris from falling inside of it, which caused the air conditioning to stop. Unfortunately I did not notice it until they were done for the day. I called Slife (based on their reviews and being a long standing local company) first thing in the morning. They were at my house within a few hours and, fortunately, it was just a fuse that blew (and, yes, the roofer paid for the repair immediately). So I scheduled Slife to come out in the winter for a furnace cleaning. We have a whole house humidifier that had leaked and dripped onto our furnace the previous year which left some calcium deposits on the furnace. The technician they sent to do the cleaning was prompt and friendly and he cleaned every bit of the calcium off of the outside and inside of the furnace and at such a reasonable price.
