We love this place firmly on the Mississippi River. Home to Grumpy Old Men But I always bring my own. Great food and bloody Mary's. Outside dining in the water and literally watch the boaters and the Eagles fly, never had a bad meal or poor service. Staff is amazing and good is great. Parking is easy. read more

We just had the worst experience ever!! We were seated outdoors and the waiter asked if we wanted to see the menu. We said we were going to order drinks then food a little later. We were told we must order food to sit outside. We ordered drinks and appetizers. A new wait staff (Paula) started stopping at our table several times clearing our glasses and plates. By the 3rd time she said rudely that people are waiting for our table. I still had a half drink left. I told my date I was not leaving until my drink was finished. She came to our table again and rudely started clearing it and wiping it down in hopes we would leave. We spent 50.00 on food and drinks !! I've never been treated so badly ever. Well, when in Wabasha, MN.... AND just because we've all seen the Grumpy Old Men movie.... You just gotta stop into Slippery's !!! Though the movie wasn't filmed here... it based on some actual characters from Wabasha. No matter.... we stopped for a cold beer. Had a local Rush River Amber beer which was good. We also ordered the Walleye fish sandwich with fries and a side of coleslaw. Never had Walleye before.... It was actually very good. It was a moist, thick fillet on a hoagie roll......enough to share. They do have a fun shop to pick up t-shirts with "Grumpy" movie related things. Only thing.... It does need a bit of a "refresh" ..... it was a tad musty, but then, they are right on Mississippi River. If you get to Wabasha..... it is definitely a fun stop. read more

Hadn't been to Slippery's in a long time so we decided to give it a try. Parking was easy and they are on the river...that is about all this place has going for it. Walked into a less than half filled Slippery's and saw the sign 'please wait to be seated'...and we did that, we waited and waited. Finally a middle aged woman came from behind the bar and led us to a table...no hello, no warm greeting of any sort...she says 'You sit here' and kind of flips the sticky IPAD menu device onto the table, cracked screen and all. No worries, everyone can have a bad day, especially if you had to work at this place. There were a couple of waitresses moving around but no one ever came and took our order, never asked if we wanted drinks (we did), nothing...after about 15 minutes we cut our losses and exited. Horrible place that really needs to train their staff, will never recommend. Also, don't fall for the Grumpy Old Men merch they try to sell, in total violation of copyright laws. That movie was never filmed here at all. It's pathetic that Slippery's sells bootleg merch to rubes who fall for it. read more

The food was good ... not great. All of our side items were very cold. Main courses warm enough. Our waitress provided very good service. We had a belated Mothers Day lunch. 2 tables of 4 people on the front patio. We had just paid our bill and we were finishing up our lunch beverages. We were asked to leave, as they had other people who wanted to be seated at our tables. We were there a total of an hour and 15 minutes. Have never in my life been asked to leave a table like that. I am very conscious about not lingering after we are done if the the restaurant is busy. This was pretty rude and unprofessional. Upon leaving our table, we saw that there was an open table in our area and 2 more open inside. No line at the hostess. Probably won't be coming back to eat here. read more

We went with 2 hungry grandkids. The chicken strip basket was was hard and dry. The Mac and Cheese was out of a box and microwaved ....dry. Their specialty of Pork BBQ ribs was dry obviously cooked hours prior. My shrimp tacos were primarily filled with coleslaw topped with 3 shrimp. All in all for $100 it was the worst meal we have had. I definitely didn't see any grumpy men here - rather everyone seemed to be having fun and enjoying this bar restaurant on the shore of the Mississippi! The claw chowder soup special was thick well flavored and chum full of clams (get it - chum?). I had a bowl of the soup and split a "slippery" burger - which was plenty of food for lunch. Hi! So I'd like my review of Slippery's to be mostly in response to the few negative Nancy's posted here. First, the "National Eagle Center"? Awesome? Hmm. All I know is that any place that inspired a hilarious movie about cursing grandpa's who romance Ann Margret is actually the thing that is awesome. Eagles are everywhere. "Horrible service all around"? I can't recall kinder staff (and I'm from Milwaukee, the city of hugs). The smiling hostess greeted us immediately. And our server, Sara, was attentive, quick, and friendly from beginning to end (which was extra amazing to me since we waltzed in near closing time and I know deep down they probably didn't want us to linger. Which we did.) But Sara continued to joke with us and treat us with respect and patience the entire time. PLUS! When we asked her to exchange some dimes for quarters so we could buy temporary tattoos she just GAVE us 2 quarters w/out taking the dimes. What??! "The bartender and another server were talking 75% of the time"? Personally, I don't know what they were doing 100% of the time since I was enjoying myself so much. "The food was not that great"? Bullcrud. The Mississippi Chowder...amazing, the grilled chicken salad...scrumptious, and the famous Slippy Burger...Velveeta-ntilizing! (Oh, and the Dr Peppers? Just what the pepper ordered!) "Nor were the portions that large for the prices". As for the amount of food, it was right in my stomach's wheelhouse. Didn't leave hungry or uncomfortably bursting. We went to a wedding in Pepin WI only 8 miles away so we had to pay homage to our favorite movie. We were impressed at the tribute to the movie as we walked in and 2 TVs were playing with both movies. This place is a "Grumpy Old Men" haven for memorabilia. You can buy a Green Hornet just like Max used in the movie. We ordered the "Putz" burger. This was a burger served with tomato lettuce and cheese. It was a good burger nothing extraordinary. What we liked was the view of the Mississippi river right out the window. Our waitress was friendly and put up with all our quotes of the movie. I was glad to read the local lore about the Grumpy Old Men movie and the souvenir shop was cool. we picked up some things there. I can't complain about the food or service, and even if it was bad I'd come back again for nostalgia sake. read more

I can't believe the reviews on this place. OK, we're laid back out of towners. Maybe we're easy to please. But the jalapeno cream cheese poppers with raspberry sauce were to die for. They were SO good. We were actually "uuuuunngh!!" outloud in our booths. And the view was gorgeous. And the beer was cheap and served and in a perfectly frosted mug. I have been here several times because when you find yourself in Wabasha the choices are pretty limited as to where to grab a snack and a drink and just relax and sit and well---you want to do it while looking at the beautiful water.....so I find myself here time and time again...but it is not for the food......it is just okay....and I don't believe anybody in the surrounding areas make a special trip to wabasha just to eat out at slippery's. It is certainly full of local flavor as it is all about the Grumpy old men movies down in this neck of the woods.....so that is pretty dang neat.....it also is a handy spot to meet up with others as everybody knows about Slippery's and it can accomodate larger groups sufficiently...Typical boring menu of chicken sandwiches, burgers, appetizers....This bar has survived a few floods in the past years and keeps on going so I can respect that. read more

Ok, so we had always wanted to visit SLIPPERY'S in Wabasha, MN, mainly because GRUMPY OLD MEN was filmed there. We went there on 6-9-24; food was great but the service...well, let's just say it out loud, waitress was less than warm and fuzzy. She acted very cold towards us and gave us the impression we were taking up her time; started off on the wrong foot! When we went to pay, she stood over me watching me as I looked at the bill, kind of hovering. She clearly wanted to see how much tip we were giving her. It was very uncomfortable to be watched like that. We'd never experienced this kind of "service" ever! She huffed at me and said, "well, it's not how we do this" as I asked her to leave our table so I could figure out the amount to pay. As she walked away apparently exasperated with me, I told my husband, she just lost a good portion of her tip for that behavior. I don't understand why she took it upon herself to act so put out. I simply wanted to make my decision on my own terms; not having someone looking over my shoulder like she did. Not going back there again. The staff here was very friendly and gave great service. We had the appetizer sampler which was half French fries. I had the walleye sandwich and was not impressed. Someone had told me that it was like the frozen fish that you get in the store, but I ordered it anyway. They were right. It was ok at best. We sat outside which was nice, but there were a ton of flies. I understand they are by the river but a fly trap would help a lot. Overall it was an ok experience but there is a lot of room for improvement with the food. read more

We stopped for lunch while visiting the National Eagle Center down the road on Main Street. This place is out of the way in a residential area right on the River. Was sat and watched to ice flow down the River. We had a party of 16 show up at prime time Lunch, the place was packed but, another party of 16 was just leaving (total luck). We were seated within 5 minutes. I ordered a New Castle on tap followed by a Fantastic Clam Chowder and Reuben sandwich for a pretty decent price. Slippery's is a Wabasha Icon being of course made famous by the Grumpy Old Men Movies. I have never eaten there (other than the occasional bar Pizza) as this is more of a drinking establishment for me. If you want a cold drink or beer, you can't beat the view, being right on the water you can have cocktails and view the local Bald Eagles soaring above, even better if you have a boat they have a huge dock to pull up to at no cost. During out last visit we met the Husband and Wife Bartending team, They were great! Always johnny on the spot to get you a drink and great conversationalist while sitting at the bar. I would totally recommend stopping in for the view and a drink. read more

Then we asked to order for to go and we were refused saying it was too hard for the kitchen to do that - there were only about 20 people. Before going inside, we took a few seconds and looked at an outside display of movie props and photos. We went in a side door and made our way down some stairs to a low level dining area. The stair way smelled like an old boathouse (mildew and fish). The inside atmosphere was what you would expect from an older restaurant on the river that has ties to a movie that is nearly 20 years old. In hope to catch some action on the river, we sat outside. The mushroom and swiss burger was a bland frozen patty. The fries all tasted like fish and to top it off I ordered the desert on the recommendation of a waitress. It was a lemon cake, it was old and stale. You could see the difference in the side they cut it from and the side that was exposed to the air. The place was clean, but very claustrophobic. The staff was friendly, except for the hostess, and the food was okay. The menu and bill is digital which wasn't favored by us or the guests around us. Having guest wifi was helpful as you don't get very good service inside the restaurant, but the WiFi was very slow making it hard to get the menu up. You also had to pay when the server wanted you to pay instead of whatever you were ready to pay. I wouldn't eat here again. read more
