I've been a member of Slope Fitness from the day it opened, having previously been a member of S Clubs (same physical space, different owner). They've got all the equipment I would seek at a large chain but with the cleanliness, care, maintenance of machines, and personal touches that are rarely found at those facilities. Throughout the pandemic, they've been strict in upholding safety protocols. I hear stories of how sloppy and careless other gyms have been this past year and I'm so grateful Slope Fitness exists...and that I live so close! read more

Very clean and well maintained place. Has enough Cardio equipment if you are a cardio bunny, which i find most Newyorkers to be. Staff is super friendly and quite helpful. The owner Michael really loves what he does, very well spoken person, just pop in for a chat and you will sign up. The quality of service they provide obviously matters to them, you can see it in action not just words. The place feels different from any other gym franchise out there and my own personal experience so far is fantastic and i would highly recommend the place. I am a member of the gym and really enjoy it. My only hope is since today the cdc said fully vaccinated people dont need to wear a mask indoors that the gym will follow suit. It is very annoying and hard to breathe using a cardio machine while wearing a mask. Hoping if we show our vaccine cards then we won't have to wear masks on the cardio machines. Update! When I moved to the neighborhood a couple years ago, I toured several gyms. None felt right. One felt like a fitness factory, another felt like a supplement in-your-face infomercial, and another felt like some barbaric reality show. All I wanted was a place I could feel comfortable at and not have to wait too long for equipment. I got that and more from Slope Fitness. It became to feel like such a community. The staff greeted me warmly and some of us got to know each other. I met other members, and when we bumped into each other during a walk at Prospect Park or at a crosswalk, we would stop and say hi. During the COVID shutdown, I felt genuine sadness walking by Union and 7th, peering into a dark building with the big blue banner overhead. But now that Slope is back. I am thrilled. It has always been clean, but somehow they make it feel even cleaner. As long as I live in the area, I will be a member of Slope Fitness. I joined Slope Fitness 4 months ago and overall this is a really great gym. It's impeccably clean and well-stocked with toiletries. They have modern and wide-ranging equipment. It's usually quiet and rarely a large amount of people working out at any one time. I don't have a kid, but they offer free child care which seems like a very nice perk for parents. On the flip side it's very small and the layout can make the place feel crowded even when a few people are there. (I've bumped my head on some equipment more than once.) The trainers often do long circuit training with their clients and thus hog much of the equipment (there's only one of every type of machine except cardio equipment)-- many other patrons do this as well. Perhaps the staff could help police this a bit or put up signs to help promote better gym etiquette. I'm going to give my membership another few months and then see if another neighborhood gym might be a better fit. Proper gym etiquette is really important to me. If that's not a deal breaker then this might be the gym for you. read more

I've been a member at Slope Fitness since 2009 (previously S Clubs) and I can't imagine my life without it! This is the only and last family owned gym in the neighborhood and it's operated with much love and care. The gym is always impeccably pristine and offers personal training and most of all, my favorite Zumba classes. Friendly owners, staff and gym members are like my extended family. So I'm new to Park Slope, and I've been a member for a few weeks now, and I'm really loving this gym after checking out others in the area. They've taken COVID precautions really seriously, and as restrictions are lifted, I think they're doing a great job of keeping their members updated. It's easy to tell they're just trying to do right by everyone, and keep everyone safe. The gym itself is well maintained, and has everything you'd need for a solid workout. I've yet to see it overly crowded, and haven't had to wait for a machine or bench. They were also super transparent about their pricing for a yearly contract vs month to month membership, the terms, and all that stuff, which I really appreciated. They're a little pricier (not that much) than other gyms in the area, but I'm happy to support a local business that seems to really value their members. read more

Slope Fitness' classes and instructors are BETTER than expected. While taking a YOGA class you can get SUPER ENERGIZED before feeling so RELAXED that you fall asleep on the floor. Their current boot camp, Zumba, and pilates classes should be good for recovering from the holidays in 2019. The locker rooms here are nicer than other local locker rooms! I visited Slope Fitness, along with a number of the other gyms in the area, with my fiancé today. I've had a gym membership at various gyms (including 24hr Fitness & Crunch) since I was 19. I'm 32 now. I was very impressed with Slope Fitness. Let me tell you why. It's obvious from the moment you step in the gym that the place values your membership. We received a pleasant greeting from all three women standing in the front desk area, and after some smalltalk, were whisked away for our tour of the facility. Admittedly, it isn't the largest space, but the equipment is modern, the staff is friendly, and the locker rooms are super clean-which is a non-negotiable for me. The group exercise schedule is published, and while I haven't taken a class, I have no reason to doubt that it doesn't go off without a hitch. The group ex space is attractive and modern. And much to my delight, I'm able to use it when no one else is. I've belonged to other gyms where the space is closed to members when not being utilized for class. On our way out, we met the owner, Michael, and he too was friendly as can be. At no time did we receive any pressure to join. In the spirit of due diligence, we went and visited the other gyms in the area. In honor of my mother, who taught me to not say anything if not constructive, let's just say I wasn't impressed. I reached back out to Slope, and after sharing my experience, was invited back to discuss becoming a member of the gym. I'm new to Brooklyn, anxious to find a place or two to call home, and think I may have found one with in Slope Fitness. This place is awesome. read more

Every gym you look at on Yelp is going to have the same basics: good equipment, competitive prices, nice lobby's etc. What makes Slope Fitness way better than any other gym out there is the cleanliness and the service. Every time I've been to the gym, I've seen Jose (one of the workers here) constantly cleaning each and every surface in the place. The handles on machines, the treadmill screens, the mirrors...everything. This is hands down the cleanest, best maintained gym I've ever been to. If that's something that matters to you, this is the place to be. The service at the place is also outstanding. I know the names of almost every employee I've come into contact with at the gym, simply because the workers are so friendly and helpful. The owner, Michael, seems to know his members on a first name basis and makes it his job to make you feel like you're part of some exclusive club while you're here. I keep finding myself getting seemingly special treatment from the gym (Michael crafted a special membership for me since I'm only here for the summer and he gave me an on-the-house replacement lock when I accidentally left my lock in the locker room over the weekend and it had to be clipped). But I can't imagine this is special treatment at all. Plus, the place is never crowded, which means I get to use the machines I want, when I want. And on top of that, this place was way cheaper than anything else I found in the area. Overall, an easy choice for your gym if you're anywhere nearby. read more

What's not to love about Slope Fitness? I live in Crown Heights and scoot down to Slope Fitness 4-5 times per week. The owner and staff are incredibly friendly and know me by name. I have never had to wait to use a machine or weights, even during peak hours. The clientele range from 20-somethings like myself to body builders to the retired crowd. I have had my fair share of poor gym experiences, typically from obnoxious and uncourteous meatheads that scream and leave their sweaty mess all over the machines. You won't find any of that here. If I could afford to built out a gym in my home, it would feel like this place. read more

The owner Mike and the entire staff are accommodating and helpful, to the point where I can call them ahead of time and they will warm the sauna up for me if it isn't already. Fantastic gym. It's small but never crowded - even during peak hours. One flat bench press, 2 flat benches by the dumbbells, one squat rack. 95% of the time you won't have to wait for someone using those pieces of equipment. The sauna is great, the showers and locker room are clean. You see staff cleaning, vacuuming etc constantly throughout the gym. It costs more than a Blink obviously, but you get what you pay for there. I'm on a $110 monthly plan. My only complaint is that I wish it was open later than 10PM since I get out of work too late to go sometimes. But considering how empty the gym is at 9, I can see why they may not choose to stay open till 11 or 12. Of the negative reviews I saw here and on Google, almost all related to complaints of customers angry that they incurred a fee when breaking their yearly contract. Which is silly. If you enter into a contract - especially with a small local business - you cannot break it and expect not to incur the penalty that you signed off on! read more

I have been going to this gym for over a decade. I can of course list many reasons why I love it: great location, convenient, super clean, attentive ownership, and a no judgements crowd. However, I am compelled to leave a review here because the ownership recently made a good decision after reviewing their policies. Running a public business is not easy (I have a public business myself) and sometimes decisions must be made based on proper public policy that is fair to everyone. I used to belong to a different gym in the area but found myself going infrequently, so I cancelled that membership and joined Slope Fitness mostly because of its proximity to the Food Coop. I got into a nice pattern where I'd get in a workout around 8:30 or 9pm and then get groceries afterwards. The pandemic, of course, brought this good habit to a standstill. Gyms were completely closed for a while, but as they reopened, the folks at Slope Fitness were very transparent and accommodating when I asked to keep my membership on hold. And once I was fully vaccinated and ready to exercise indoors again, they were happy to welcome me back and show all of the safety protocols they'd put in place. I've felt very safe there, plus both before the pandemic and now, it's never been too crowded when I normally go. If you've been considering a membership, I recommend it. I've been a member for a few years. Slope Fitness was always a comfortable, clean environment and I never had to wait for equipment before the pandemic. Since I started going back after the post-COVID reopening (I chose to wait until I was fully vaccinated) I have felt very safe and comfortable. It is absolutely clean, and Michael the owner walked me through what he had done to ensure air quality, cleanliness and safety as well as the new protocols which are all very sensible and easy for members to follow. I have been going at different times, varying days, and the equipment I want is always available and ready to go, and there's plenty of room and no crowding. Staff members are always pleasant and friendly. It's been a rough year and a half for sure for gyms, and I'm very glad that Slope Fitness survived and hope it continues! read more

PRO: Ive been a member for 6 months, my previous gym ( Body Reserve) closed down, I loved that gym and never thought I would find a replacement. I've found it! This place is great, there is a mixture of old Cybex equipment and new equipment, all in excellent, mint condition. I prefer the older Cybex stuff. I have never seen this gym too crowded, so I never leave stressed, like at other gyms. This gym is not a chain gym, so do not expect $15 or $45 month charges. But don't except the headaches of the discount gyms. Also, I've mentioned to the owner that this was "the cleanest gym ever." He really does care, and he has a staff of dedicated young women who rotate around keeping the facilities and all the equipment clean. (Ive seen them spraying down stretching bands!) The owner should know they do there chores even when he's not around. He is blessed to have them. CON: i was told by a friend that celebrities go to this gym, I haven't seen one, I would even settle for seeing one of those kids from that "Jersey Shore" show, and I hate that show! All kidding aside, on a serious note, I would like to recommend ANYONE joining ANY gym check the BBB website for its rating and read gym contract carefully BEFORE signing. I've been coming here since 2014 but when I moved across the park a block from a big-name gym I figured I'd just go there. Nope. Nothing can beat Slope Fitness. It's got the warm and friendly atmosphere of a family gym but the equipment and layout are as professional as you get. It's got enough cross trainers, treadmills, and free weights that I've never had to wait, and the placement of all the other machines is well-designed so I don't feel crowded in, even on a busy day. The staff are great and there are trainers and classes for all fitness levels and goals. Michael, the owner, has poured his heart and soul into his gym, and it shows in how much everyone here obviously loves this place. On a good day the half hour walk across the park is my warm up. On the days I have to take the subway here, it's still worth it. Best. Gym. Ever. read more

I noticed the existing members had connection with the staff and that same customer service was extended to me even though I was passing through. Once my workout was done, the owner, Mike asked me what my thoughts were and how they compared with those in California. Slope Fitness has been a key part of my daily routine in Park Slope for the past five years. Throughout the pandemic, I was really unable to keep up with any of my goals. Before the shutdown, I took advantage of the classes, the training sessions, the cardio and free weights. The staff was always friendly and responsive. I could bring my kids and put them in the playroom while I worked out. I've had to move out of the city for the year until the end of the whole crisis, but I am really glad that places like this one have hung in there despite the loss of business. I've been a member of this gym for about two years so I think it's fair that I give it a review. I've been a member of numerous gyms & places like these are hard to find as NYC gyms become more commercialized. It is pricey but I prefer they keep their prices on the high side to prevent it from getting crowded. The girls that work here work super hard to keep the gym clean & I can't thank them enough. The locker/rest rooms are immaculate & they provide free towel service. As far as gym etiquette goes, everyone seems to be into their workout & if you want to get in shape or just get your sweat on then Slope gets the job done. He seems like a pretty genuine guy; and it's not easy to get a (previously failed) business up and running again, especially in this market and on 7th Ave with its notoriously high rent and number of business failures.
