UFC GYM Park Slope - Boxing Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

On Saturday (April 26, 2019) myself and another member came in for the 9:15 boxing class at the UFC Gym Park Slope location. When we got to the gym at 9 am it was still closed because the General Manager was late! There were at least ten of us waiting outside in the cold for him to arrive. Once the other member and I entered the gym we went to check in and the general manager ALEX M noticed that I have a Champion Membership with the UFC Gym in Soho. When I scanned my card he told them that he never seen me before and that I need to have a photo ID. Although I've been to the Park Slope location plenty of times. Alex, then proceeded to tell me that I couldn't enter the gym unless I showed my ID every time. The member that I came in with had to speak up and step in order to explain to Alex that I had already been there plenty of times and that we both have the Championship Membership. Despite the fact he proceeded to talk to me and the other person in a disgusting manner and with a lot of animosity in his voice. I've never dealt with such horrible customer service and have never been so disrespected. Especially for a service that I pay $130 a month for! Alex's attitude is very disgusting and very poor! I have witnessed him speaking to other customers and even some of the trainers in this manner as well. Update: I'm still currently a member at UFC SOHO but have the Champion membership. Today on June 14th 2019 at 3:25 P.M. I received a a call from the General Manager Alex M. at UFC Park Slope. He told me that UFC Park Slope will not be honoring UFC SOHO members or any other UFC memberships. Then hung up on me shortly after. It's a good gym. Alex is a very friendly person and always ready to accommodate you when you can't make it to the gym due to injury. When i was out with my knee surgery, he froze my account and didn't charge me. He was sympathetic and understanding. Yes, maybe their policy sucks saying that you have to cancel 30 days in advance and in person, but you have to know what you singing up for and consider that before you sign the contract. I've been with this gym since they opened circa Feb 2016. All in, I've lost like 18 lbs because every class literally pushes you beyond your limit. My body is toned and I've gone down from a 38W to 35W. If you go at least 2x a week each class nets out to approx $10-12 depending on your package, whereas before I was spending $35/40 per class for some BS spin or shadow boxing class. Best of all you learn some great kickboxing techniques and terminology. They've gone through several trainers, but thats just the nature of the fitness instructor circuit/career path. However, below are my comments on the instructors who's helped me reach my body goals: Alexandar P. has been there from the beginning. He sticks to his routine but and that dude will give you the best cardio workout of your life. He quickly reminds you that you're only there for 60mins and to push yourself. Wade D, is incredibly dynamic and thus far one of my favorites!!!! All of this classes are amazing, but nothing beats his TRX class! It's like doing acrobatics, all core all sweat! And his playlist is lit in my humble opinion. Mike D, if you want to focus on technique and kickboxing skills after a hellish cardio workout then he's your guy. Jesse L, I've only done a few of his classes but he's determined to give you a full body workout, he's very attentive and instructional with his technique. Alex M, He's the owner and probably one of the most meticulous of the bunch. He's very concerned with preventing injury and technique and makes sure we're all stretched out and ready to dig deep. PARENTS: I don't have kids of my own, but I almost always see the kids class ending as the adult one is about to begin and all I can say is that those kids love the instructors! They seem to be having an amazing time and practically cling on to the instructors. As far as cost and charges, never had any issues. I'm also the type of person that ask annoying questions and need for things to be spelled out so that I know what i'm paying for. At one point I had to put my membership on hold for 3 months due to a back injury (unrelated to the gym) everything went smoothly and it was like $20 a month for the hold. read more

Ripped us off when we tried to cancel. After paying $100 per month and not using the club for 4 months, we called up to cancel. The person told us that we can't cancel by phone, email or online. We needed to come in to meet the manager for some reason. We finally got this person a a few weeks later. He told us that we could not cancel immediately but needed to pay for a few more months due to small type terms and conditions (no real reason). He tried to convince us to put the membership on hold (while still paying something) and we said no and canceled. So 2 months go by and yet another charge which they refused to reverse. Member for about a year, and I love this gym. Spacious and clean. All the trainers are great. The free weights are also an added bonus Amon was the instructor, for an awesome saturday morning HITT workout. He was very encouraging, a He incorporated kettle bell, sled pushes, lots of ab work, foam rolling; while giving a muscle physiology context when explaining the motions. "You never see fat boxers." - my doctor. I learned a few years ago that I need a way to exercise that's fun. Because if I don't enjoy it, I'll never do it. It doesn't matter how many New Year's Resolutions I make. Some people enjoy the typical gym experience - weight machines, treadmills, free weights, the occasional yoga class. If that's you, great! You're very lucky. Personally, I need another way to motivate myself. The workouts here are fun. There are also weight machines, free weights - which, by the way, are NEVER crowded because most gym members are taking the classes. So if you do go to use the machines & weights, it's almost like having your own personal gym. There's also a sense of community here - the trainers are great, the owner and staff are cool, and the best part... take the classes and you'll get into kickass shape, literally. This type of workout may not be your personal style, but there are all kinds of people here. Men & women, parents & kids, big & small... so don't assume. If the idea of a boxing-style workout interests you, (ie. you like the training montages in Rocky movies) you owe it to yourself to take a free class here. read more

I was driving down 4th avenue one day when I saw a cage going through a window, holy shit I thought a UFC gym is opening here. I went online and found nothing and i checked back again and again because this was 20 blocks from my house, finally they had a website I wrote an email and signed up. I regret it all now. I just didn't love how the gym was run, when I signed up they told me they would have JuiJitsu classes (and that they would be open months earlier) both of which were not true. But the gym was close to my house. I signed up online for a month to month membership and then waited for months for the gym to open, on my first day I said I am freelance and it is common for me to go out of town for a week, or month, or longer how hard is it to put a membership on hold, they told me that I couldn't put it on hold for a week but I could put a hold for a month it is no problem just let us know when. It will cost 25 dollars a month. That is somewhat inline with my other gym experiences (but at my old gym I could put it on hold for a as long as I want for 20 dollars.) About two months into my membership I injure my wrist (unrelated to the gym), I go in and put my membership on hold, I was annoyed because while doing that they tried to talk me into staying at the gym and exercise with a wrist that I just got an x-ray on... I didn't like that pushy mentality, training injured isn't good for anyone. When the month was about up I ended up taking a job out of the country for 2 plus weeks and that lead into my vacation and in the end I was gone all summer I sent emails to put me on hold for longer with no responses. I hoped I could clear it up once I got into town. During this time my credit card number was stolen and I changed out my card, because of this my monthly bill was not paid. This is the first time UFC gym reached out. I wrote to them I am out of town i asked you to put my membership on hold for longer instead you billed me for the month I was hoping to clear it up when I get back in the country but can you do something for me via email. I get no response but a week later the same email, this time I write a more strongly worded email and I get a response that I need to go into the gym. At this point I am annoyed because the gym has billed me for 2 months of which I haven't used, they never called to check in on my injury or see why I haven't attended they just reach out when billing goes bad. As someone who worked in a gym, I used to reach out to my customers, hey we want to see you in the gym, miss you etc are you okay do you need help at the facility etc etc. I am not asking to be babied I just hate the double standard. In the end I got to the gym in October I missed June (because of the injury), July, August, September. I spoke with the guy who runs the gym who is nice, but he didn't seem to really care about my problems. In the end I ended the membership. I will go to a real BJJ gym and just have to travel farther to get there. I was one of the first 10 people to sign up at the gym I hoped they would have a more community feel, I want them to succeed but I want them to put more care into the students there, trying to get people to work out injured, not checking in on someone who missed months is not a good precedent. I wanted the community I had at other gyms martial arts gyms or not but I didn't get that sense at all and didn't really love the gym. In the end they wanted to take me to collections for the 2 months I didn't pay, so in order to cancel my Month to Month I had to pay 100 dollars and he said he would wipe the 2 months (of the 4) I didn't use the gym off my credit due. I would fight it but honestly I will just wash my hands of it. If I want to cardio kickbox I will go to CKO, if I want to do BJJ I will go to RGFA. TLDR: They charged me for months I didn't use. They started finally to do BJJ classes (only nogi) but it is 3 days a week and only at 8pm. The hours aren't reliable. When I was there there were multiple times teachers didn't show up in time for class. There is no parking in the lots nearby. The class selection isn't great. I also don't love the layout when you work out not during class time it is too quiet there. Pros: The gym is very clean. The equipment is brand new. The kickboxing classes will kick your ass. Max and wade are amazing trainers. Max in particular has, in a few sessions, gotten me closer to my body goals than the years of aimless workouts I had been doing. Having been working out for 35+ years I thought I knew it all. I don't, you don't, one session with max will prove this. Gym is always in clean condition w new equipment. Parking can be manageable if you keep up w street cleaning schedule or do meter parking on 5th Ave. Alex the gm worked w me on creating an affordable training plan. Parents...think twice! We signed our kids up on the month to month. Loved the option of weeknight and weekend classes. Only after putting 2 Gi's on did we find out that each cost $100. You can not see the screen when they are ringing items up so be sure you ask for pricing before hand...they do not tell you what they are charging to your card unless you ask! My kids wore the Gi for that class after which we asked to return them because it was more money than we had planned to spend on this...we were told no. When I tried to cancel our month to month membership 2 weeks later we were told that we would be billed until April. In other words while the contract and cancelation papers say 30 days notice Alex claims that you need 60 days. I have re-read my contract and this is not in it. I will be following up on this! Alex has made this a miserable experience. If this gym wants to keep parents happy then he needs to work on his customer service approach. We felt taken advantage of and think there is some shady business there in regards to canceling and refunds in general. read more

We are, at this point, just trying to find a way to leave this gym without getting robbed of any more of our money. They sold us a membership that included Jiu-jitsu instruction for my kids but then later made owning a gi ($100 each) a requirement to receive that instruction. I know from speaking with other parents with kids at this gym that they do not intend to continue their membership with this illegal change to the membership. I thought it was sketchy for them to have me sign a screen without being able to read the text on their computer monitor. $730 later, I now know why. Alex, the owner/manager of this place has terrible people skills (a little sincerity goes a long way, Alex) and was only minimally responsive to our concerns after we pushed hard. We are now prepared to escalate this (beyond writing this crappy Yelp review) and sue them for violating their own contract and swindling customers. Coach Wade is one of the best teachers--- and blends an extremely challenging workout with years of experience, encouragement, and humor. I do not feel worried about my level and all of the students are really nice. I loveeeee this gym! I get excited just to go there since the trainers are amazing, intelligent, and inspiring. There are plenty of classes to choose from. I often go to kickboxing with Wade, Jesse, or Alexander who consistently provide intense and super fun work outs. I'm happy knowing I get my calisthenics fix every time I show up. All of classes with coach WADE BELFON are awesome. If you want to have motivating workout with elevating positive charge, you should definitely come to this classes if you want to see and feel real results. He is very helpful, knowledgeable and dedicated instructor. Always willing to share his knowledge regarding (diet, exercises, healthy lifestyle and etc.,). Total Scam. Charged for 2 months on sign up which they say is last month free if you cancel. Canceled on Jan 24th, they said you have to pay for a full month after you cancel to which they do not apply the originally paid extra month - so basically a 60 day cancellation policy, plus whatever is left if you cancel mid month, for me that was 67 days. They also dont let you cancel over the phone or online, so you have to go in person. Been there 3 times as the debt collectors keep calling - owner Alex is never available and never calls back. read more

Decent facility, but POORLY managed and hours on website aren't accurate. You're basically overpaying for the gym because the gym doesn't have reliable operating hours. The website says 6am - 9pm on weekdays, but they can't find dependable staff to open the gym or teach early morning classes. Apart from two weekday mornings, the gym opens whenever someone shows up. And on Sundays they are only open until 2pm! What kind of gym is this?! You'll pay standard NYC gym fees - approx $100/month, and there are ZERO amenities like competitors in the same prices range. No towels, the restrooms still have no stalls in between the toilets. Only one unisex shower with no shampoo, etc. They ask you to clean everything you use afterward so they probably save on housekeeping. They have 2 morning classes - Tues & Thurs at 6:15am. On several occasions the instructors have been no shows or very late. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, no one is there at 6am because they're "still figuring things out". What kind of gym can't find trainers who are morning people??? Trainers are decent, not great - like other gyms, some are better than others. Some are in worse shape than members. Some also seem self taught, with no formal credentials. Advice to management: get it together - find reliable staff. have morning classes on all weekdays, or at least open and close according to the website hours. Cut the kids' classes in half and replace with adult classes. Better off joining a NYSC, which will cost less or Equinox for about $50 more a month. Both are much more reliable facilities with dependable schedules. Or the YMCA where you pay $35/month and have no frills (since you have no frills here). If this gym continues to be ran as shoddy as it currently is, I doubt it will be in business in one year. Hopefully the UFC brand starts regulating its franchises better. read more

Good clean gym! My favorite days are Monday no-gi BJJ with Coach Bryan. We really refine technique and as a beginner to grappling/BJJ; his classes helped me become way better! Bryan's a really good coach makes it easy to learn technique and makes it effective for all. Bruno's classes on Wednesday Gi-BJJ are awesome too! I've been going to the UFC gym for a year now and it has been a terrific experience. The trainers all have their own styles and are very knowledgable and friendly. I have been a member for a year ( and 3 more at the FiDi location prior to that). Moved out of Brooklyn in May and they would not let me cancel my membership unless I do it in person- "a simple rule". It's 2017, and they required cancellation in person? A scam. Offered to cancel by fax or email- denied. Emailed multiple times without response. Now they tell me those emails addresses are only outgoing so they don't read them. However, nowhere in their email does it says "do not reply" or any warning whatsoever. They have collection agencies calling and won't cancel my membership unless I pay three months worth of fees to a gym I did not go and was actively trying to cancel it. Please do not support these bullies. read more

If you want to go beyond your limits and learn new moves go to Alex P! He really makes you work and knows how to teach you kickboxing. I was sweaty, out of breath, and my muscles were sore- great work out, plus I learned some kickboxing and self defense. This gym has been so welcoming to my teenage daughter. Their instructors have taken the time to show her how to wrap her hands, guide us to getting the proper gloves and welcome and support her in the classes although she is one of the youngest members. I encourage other parents of teenagers to try it out. I hope to be joining her as well in the spring. read more

Great classes! The instructors here really know how to push you. Kickboxing conditioning class is a great workout. You'll sweat a lot and also focus on technique. The TRX class (matrx) is great for a slow burn (trust me, you'll feel it the next day). The classes are for all levels. I was on Classpass before joining and found that so many studios/gyms in the city were...well, snooty. A lot of working out is mental for me, so I needed a studio that was judgement-free. UFC Park Slope is all about the workout that fosters a nice sense of camaraderie. Looking forward to trying their other classes, but overall this gym is a great addition to the neighborhood. For anyone who is looking to get in shape or just let out some steam, I highly recommend UFC Park Slope. read more

I go for the classes and not the gym, so my review is based on the kickboxing, boxing classes. Actually, I wouldn't recommend using it solely as a gym, since the hours aren't maintained in that way. But they do have a fairly solid assortment of weights and cardio machines. The classes are exciting, tough, fun, inspiring and hands down the best workouts of my life. I'm literally drenched in sweat by the end and whatever stress I had walking in, is all but gone. I walked in knowing zero about boxing/kickboxing and I've acquired a great self-defense skill set that trickles into my normal life in the form of confidence and discipline. All the instructors are former fighters, who are smart, compassionate, dedicated to your workout and teach you proper strikes and kicks. At $100/month it's on the pricey side but if you were to attend 3 classes/week you're looking at roughly $8-10/class. I've read the reviews on here and while I can't speak to each personal experience, I can certainly say that as an adult you should always ask about pricing. Adult humans actually think that things like Gis and boxing gloves are free?? I don't love the membership cancelation policy either, and agree that tacking on two months at the end is a tad excessive. But that information was spelled out in the beginning. All in all a great experience. I rated it 4 stars because of the pricing and cancellation policy. read more

I've been a member at this location for about a month and a half now and I can already feel a huge difference. The classes are really challenging and all of the teachers have very different styles so if you go multiple times a week you're sure to be pushed every time. Zoren is an incredible trainer!!! He mixes kickboxing, weight training and likes to freestyle with methods used by professional athletes!!! I haven't had the same workout twice I highly recommend him. The classes are amazing as well. It's nice to have a gym with variety. read more
