Vibe check completely passed. My friend it's just at this place and it turns out I have never been before. As soon as I stepped in I knew I was in for a treat. The decor is brighter, yet still calm and inviting. We went right upstairs because they have a covered rooftop. It was around 6:30, but it wasn't crowded and the soundtrack was excellent. Any place that plays SBTRKT instantly gets a thumbs up from me. I got a beverage and food menu, although I just tried two drinks. They have a happy hour from 5-7, so we were able to catch the tail end of it. Cocktails are $4 off (putting each one around $10), and wines and beers are moderately discounted... Food too. These are not basic cocktails. I was thoroughly impressed by their ingredients and composition. I had to check past RAMMYs nominees and see if they had forgotten something. Turns out they were a finalist for best gathering place last year. But their cocktails?? Wow. One drink literally had a flower IN the ice cube. And another had the most delightful pandan foam. Loved this place for a casual weeknight dinner. Like others, the ambiance made me feel like I was definitely on vacation but in a lofi lounge-meets Tulum way. Service: our server was super friendly and made great suggestions for dishes to try. Menu- It is a mix of international flavors. We ordered the quesobirria as a starter which was delicious. It was a chilly night, so I opted for the Portuguese fish stew. It was a generous serving filled with shrimp, scallops, white fish and potatoes and came with both toasted bread and rice. My husband chose a make your own skewer plate combo- chicken skewers, rice and beans and pineapple fried rice. He was super happy with the portion size and the flavors. Our teen daughter selected the Hawaiian sliders and fries. She is not an adventurous eater, but liked it a great deal and told us she wants to eat here again. Decor: it is a modern surf shack meets boho chic vibe. It's pretty and laidback with a rooftop bar and intimate dining room. I peeked into the subterranean DJ bar which looks like it could be a lot of fun. The shrimp and pineapple were perfectly cooked, while the coconut rice and bok choy were the perfect accompaniments! We tried allll the drinks, and my favorite was the Sultans--reminded me of key lime pie in all of the best ways! I had such a great time here! I went to happy hour on the rooftop with my friend. The decor both inside and out is so cute and aesthetic. There are green tiles as you walk up the stairs, the rooftop bar is bright and airy, and the bartenders are so nice. I had the white sangria and birria tacos for happy hour. I can't WAIT to go back! First the ambiance gave beachy/ vacay vibes! It was an experience that made you feel like you weren't in Washington, DC! I love that they used real flowers on the table settings and the restaurant was clean. The staff were sweet! Our waitress was holding down the downstairs and outdoor section with grace and ease. Came here for brunch and what an adorable place! It's themed in a very beach fashion and is the perfect place for brunch with your friends on the weekend. They have unlimited brunch drinks and an entree for 44 dollars. We started off with their nata which is a Portuguese pastry that was to die for! Ended up having their donuts too (which were like beignets) and they were just as wonderful. Our entrees were the surfer burrito and the chilaquiles. Great rooftop in DC for brunch - if you get a big group of people together (30 plus - spend a certain minimum), they will let you use it for a private event. All the food looked amazing but we got the avocado toast - it was scrumptious - generous portion of bread, guacamole, queso, sunny side up egg. Vagabond is a cute spot but there are a lot of tables squeezed into the main dining space. And it's very dark. Maybe I'm old, but I couldn't read the menu with such low lighting. I've never experienced that before. I ordered the quesabirria for a starter and the vegan stir fry for my main dish. The quesabirria was tasty, but felt too greasy and heavy for my liking. I think the cheese added to the heavy feeling. The other person in my party ordered the shrimp tacos and those were delicious. Tasted lighter than the quesabirria. The stir fry was good. I didn't think I would finish the whole thing but I did. I added both proteins, shrimp and chicken (I lift and protein is important to me!) Unfortunately the server thought I wanted a chicken skewer so that's what came out. When the person who placed it on the table realized, he started to take it back, but the server put it back on the table. I found that interesting because the skewer had more of a burnt flavor whereas I'm assuming the chicken that would come with the stir fry would not. I didn't complain though because I was pretty hungry, but that annoyed me a bit. I was looking forward to the dessert menu but there wasn't anything on it that appealed to me (aka, no chocolate and nothing cake-like). They had basque cheesecake, grilled pineapple and ice cream, and a third item that I can't recall. Overall, the meal was decent, but I wouldn't return. read more

They do have a bottomless brunch option that includes an entree and drinks for $48, which I like when they bundle the drinks and entree together vs paying separately for both. Might be in my head but at least I feel like this is a better deal as long as you order the most expensive entree :) I got the sliders and fries and thought this was not on the menu as an entree I was charged extra for the fries. I enjoyed them but honestly wanted to come here based on the photos of their Birria which is not on the brunch menu. So my bad there! Guess I will have to come back haha. I make a better one at home, so wouldn't suggest. The shakshuka looked very hearty and nice though. The winner was really two custard tarts we ordered for the table and shared. They were exceptional! I really enjoyed our dinner and drinks here. The restaurant has indoor dining, a front patio and a rooftop space with 2 tables and some hightop bar seating. My partner and I headed upstairs. Note, the stairs are crazy steep. You will get a workout just going up so you've already burned off the first round of drinks! You can still order food, along with the full cocktail menu. Speaking of cocktails, that is the speciality here. They offer an wide array of wines from Spain, New Zealand, and other wine country. I tried a few. I didn't like many of them, so I stuck to a nice Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. My partner ordered cocktails, and each one was perfect. So this is definitely a cocktail spot. The Mediterranean trio dip was delicious along with the chile relleno -- stuffed with cheese and steak. It's a great spot and I would love to come back during the happy hour on a warm day. We visited here for late lunch on a Saturday. We got there around 3:30, didn't realize that they serve brunch until 4pm, we waited until 4pm to order. The restaurant is on the noisy side, at least on that day. We sat at the bar since there were no tables available, a lot activity around us. There food storage unit is outside so they constantly had servers going in and out the door where we sat at the bar, a little annoying. The highlight of my time there was the passion fruit mimosa, soooo good. The stir fry dish and octopus dish were good, could have had more octopus in it but it was good. I've been here for brunch twice and I feel like DC is really sleeping on this place as a brunch spot. The first time I went, everyone in my party foolishly ignored the "Vagabond Bottomless" option at the bottom left of the brunch menu. ‍ If you plan on having a proper "DC Brunch" , I would definitely opt for the bottomless option. We obviously really liked this spot so we went back a second time on Sunday and did the right thing (which was do the bottomless option). I ordered the Lineup and four espresso martinis and because I did the bottomless vagabond it came out to ~$44 + tip. The first time I went, I ordered the buttermilk pancakes and only two drinks and it was almost the same price. We order the Doughnuts as an appetizer for the group the first time. It was under the 'For the Table' section of menu so we assumed there would be enough for everyone to at least get to try it but they only brought three really tiny doughnuts. I wasn't really happy about that and I felt like that was a bit misleading. It was more of a personal plate of doughnuts rather than something meant to be shared by all (Table of 5). This space is a little small so I would highly recommend making a reservation beforehand. The outdoor space is really pretty as well. There's also a nice rooftop bar that wasn't as busy as the dining room. Despite my 4-star rating, I really liked it and will be back! read more

This visit to vagabond was 1 billion times better than my last visit and this is the only reason I am reviewing the restaurant. I met a few friends for their brunch deal up upstairs at the bar.... The ambience is 10 out of 10 upstairs. It's beautiful. The stairs are steep. Please be careful... only thing about vagabond is that the bathrooms are all the way in the basement however, our bartender Emma was amazing great personality great drinks. The food came out fast. The fries were delicious. I ended up getting the waygu sliders fries & an egg based dish... everything was quick and fresh. This visit exceeded my expectations as my last visit was super poor. I'm glad I came back in. Try them again. I suggest that everyone come to vagabond for their brunch deal. It's amazing but they do have a two hour time limit. The bar tender was super friendly, and she works Thursdays and Saturdays, so for her alone I will definitely be back. I've been meaning to try out this restaurant for a while, but they seem to book up for weekend brunch, So my husband and I went for cocktails at about 10 PM on a Friday evening. The first floor of the restaurant was quieter with a couple people at the bar inside - the decor and ambience of that floor was super nice though. The host let us know that there was a DJ in the basement with a more upbeat vibe and that there were people at the rooftop bar. It was nice weather so we opted for the rooftop bar. We got a seat overlooking the street. I thought the cocktails were delicious and very fair pricing! The cucumber drink was so yummy! We ordered bottomless mimosas and the drinks continued to flow and the food came out fast and efficient. Great service! If you're a frequent bruncher in DC then you know that this is a great deal! The mimosas were good and the food was tasty. I had the pancakes, eggs and potatoes and also tried the King's sliders.
