Burger was pretty good, definitely on the expensive side compared to the rest of the non-sit down burgers in the city. Paid over $25 for a burger, fries, and a drink. Ambiance was lovely -- got to inhale toxic gasoline fumes and watch people yell at each other while enjoying my food. Overall would skip due to pricing and value.
Rating: 7.5/10 Date Visited: 1/16/2026 I ordered The Oklahoma ($10), which was their double smashburger with horseradish sauce. The meat, cheese, and toppings were very standard for what you would expect and tasted great. The horseradish sauce was an interesting twist and I personally enjoyed the extra kick on the burger. The burger was a bit smaller than other smashburgers I've tried, but the taste is solid. Overall, I would recommend this place if you like smashburgers.
Holy this place made my New York top food list. The Oklahoma burger is delicious. I love the caramelized onions and boy there's a lot of them. Soft potato bun. It was so delectable. The Big Smack was so good to. With a sesame bun it really tastes like a McDonald's Big Mac but it's a lot tastier. The fries are top notch too. Solid potato. Thick. More ketchup packets should be given next time.
Smacking Burger should be nestled right in the absolute top left corner of one of those New York magazine grids--I can't think of a more "lowbrow brilliant" concept than a smash burger spot cropping up inside of a gas station smack dab in the middle of the west village. This place is getting some massive buzz, and I would say it is largely well deserved. I love me a good smash burger, and this place delivers a quality option. Perhaps a tiny bit over salted, and I would say their secret sauce is solid but not amazing. But the burger itself is juicy and messy and fun. Fries were a bit lighter cooked than I'd like but ok, but the shake was surprisingly strong. But here you get not only a tasty burger, but the frisson of sitting outside of a gas station in a searing area, watching the pretty people prance on to their west village outings while cars pulled in for what seemed like some seriously overpriced gas. I found the combination of some of the best of the city experience with a suburban eating outside the gas station vibe to be an utter, odd delight, with a burger living up to its buzz. Service was reasonably quick on a crowded evening, and if you want a soda or beer to go with your burger, just pivot to that. Before going I saw another review that said something like "not the best burger you'll ever have, but the best burger you'll get at a gas station" and that sounds about right--tasty and fun and I think they are open late if you are out on the town--I enjoyed my burger on a regular evening; imagine it could hit even better as a post-club midnight snack!!
I've been going to Smacking Burger since it opened in 2024 and have never had a bad experience. It's a perfect way to end a late night (or a place to get an amazing burger, anytime). All the ingredients taste so fresh and their sauces, toppings, and burger patties are perfectly placed to make each ingredient shine. Placement matters on a burger! Last time I went I got the big smack burger, their version of an elevated big mac. It's amazing. It's a very small place located in a gas station bodega and is extremely clean. They just has a griddle and a fryer machine, so you clearly see them making everything and handling the food.

Smacking Burger has got to be one of the best burgers located at the most unassuming place, a gas station. One of the last gas stations in NYC at that. We suspected that the place would be hyped, so we arrived around the time it opened to avoid a long line especially on a Saturday. Luckily we were early enough to be the first customers. Our group ordered a variety of items including The Classic, The Big Snack, The Naked Burger, a side of plain fries, and a side of fries animal style. I had the Naked Burger, which was basically The Big Smack but with a single patty and lettuce bun. It was delicious, and I especially loved the dab of their cilantro jalapeno sauce with their orange sauce. That being said, it does make for a messy burger. The fries were fine, but the loaded animal style fries were worth the try. You purchase your beverage from the main gas station, which I thought was cool because you get more variety of drinks.
The Big Smack was delicious! This is a really good burger restaurant inside of a gas station. There is no seating inside but there's a few tables in front and a patio area to the side. There wasn't any wait for service and it came out pretty quick. I suggest taking your meal to another area to eat as the patio beside the gas pumps isn't the best view with cars pulling in and out.
First time having it and it was good burger. Patties weren't dry, seasoned well, the bacon stayed crispy.I added lettuce and sauces to mine. Can you get a delicious burger at a gas station? The answer is obviously "yes" if you know about Smacking Burger. Tucked behind a Mobil gas station inside of its convenient store is this delightful little joint that serves up some great burgers. My go to is The Big Smack. It is a hefty double beef patty smash burger with American cheese. The beef is seared well with a ton of juiciness. What does it for me is the thinly sliced onions and shredded lettuce, which cuts through the grease. Not to mention the soft pillowy sesame seed bun and the tasty Smack Sauce that ties it all together. Wait! Don't forget that it's only $9.99 instead of the usual $13-18 for something comparable at similar competitors around NYC. Another good burger is The Oklahoma. Instead of thinly sliced grilled onions, this one has caramelized onions, which adds a touch of sweetness and umami to the product. Horsey Sauce has a slight kick from the horseradish and certainly distinguishes itself from the others. With that said, I miss the sesame seed bun and lettuce from The Big Smack. This burger feels slightly greasier as well. All in all, this place is super legit. For under $10, you get one of the best double patty smash burgers I have tried in NYC. Btw, service is quick and there is some outdoor seating available. If you prefer to eat it in a nicer setting, take it to Jackson Square across the street. Trust me, this is a hidden gem. read more

I was in the neighborhood and figured I might as well check it out (since I remembered hearing so much about it when it opened). It's connected to the Mobil station, and it's a pretty small menu of items to choose from (burgers, fries and milkshakes) . I ordered the Mr. Impossible burger (made with impossible meat) and it was delicious. It came loaded with pickles, onions, lettuce and a yummy sauce. They have a tiny bit of seating outside (both tables and a little outdoor patio set). The service was pretty good and I got my food quickly. I'd definitely come back again the next time I'm craving a burger. read more

Gas stations are rare in Manhattan and ones that serve burgers even rarer, so I had to try it. I ordered the big smack with a side of fries. They have several interesting sauces for a small upcharge, so I asked the cashier what sauces he likes for the fries- Cilapeno and the el toro sauces. Price is comparable to what you'd pay for McDonalds in NYC, but this is way better. The fries were rough cut style, came out hot, and were properly seasoned. The el toro sauce was good with them but I really liked the Cilapeno. (Mostly cilantro and very little spicy heat) The big smack smash patty with everything on it was also tasty. There are a couple picnic tables next to the gas pumps if you want to eat there. Jackson Square is across the street, or the Hudson River greenway is a 10 minute walk away if you prefer a little more scenery while you eat. read more

The burger could've been seasoned more for my liking so maybe ask them to make sure to use salt and pepper when ordering, but the burger was prepared veryyy well. Amazing bun, the bacon jam was a perfect touch. A soft and juicy burger. I don't like pickles but my partner loved the butter crunch pickles on his burger. We both had the Big Smack burger. The star of the show for me was the loaded fries. If you like spice, whatever the green spicy/jalapeño sauce they have on it is perfection and everything else on the fries was great also. The burger is made on the spot and the service was quick and friendly. read more

This is really good burger in a very unique location. The food comes out quick after ordering even when it is busy. The Big Smack was very good and at a reasonable price. It's their version of the Big Mac and it's pretty close in taste to the Big Mac. The fries are great too. read more
We've been topping off the tanks of our rental cars at this Mobil for years, since it's the closest (read: only?) gas station in the area. I vaguely recall noting that there was a burger joint attached to it several months ago, but didn't pay it any mind. After all, how good could a gas station burger be, right? Hey, I'm mature enough to admit when I'm wrong. The burgers at this particular gas station are legit. As far as smashburger-style burgers go, I'd say Smacking Burger punches way above its weight class at their price point. Compared to the likes of In-N-Out, Five Guys, or Shake Shack, I'd choose Smacking Burger every single time. Pro tip: head a few blocks south and you'll run into Abingdon Square Park -- it's been pretty sedate whenever I've gone by, and there's usually an open park bench you can snag while you stuff your face with your burger and fries. read more

Delicious smash burgers! It's located in a Mobile gas station so it's small but there are 2 uncovered picnic tables outside. My group ordered the big smack, the Oklahoma and the truff. Everything was delicious and perfectly seasoned but our favorite was the big smack. The Oklahoma has the horsey sauce instead of the smack sauce but it wasn't that horseradish-y. Expect a bit of a wait after ordering but it'll be worth it. read more

For once social media got it right. I came in here skeptical. I thought at worst it'd just be a good burger. It blew my expectations. I'm not sure if it's the best smash burger around but it can sure hang with the big boys. I bought a OKC burger, fries, and soda. It all came out to $18 which isn't too bad compared to some popular burger spots. Food didn't take too long to come. The OKC was delicious. It wasn't a big burger but it was very fulfilling. It came with a horseradish sauce that added an extra kick to it. The fries were good too. Not the best fries out there but they were a good price and tasted good. Maybe they could've been better seasoned but the cuts were great. I plan on coming back here. It's a small spot. As much as you expect a gas station to be. There's two small tables for outdoor seating if you're lucky to grab a seat. The place seems to be constantly busy. As I ate I couldn't help notice people coming and going. I'll be back here to try their other burgers. read more
This was one of the best burger spots I've been too. I loved the vibes and the food. I recommend getting the big smack. It's just the perfect combo between a classic and unique burger. We got take out today. My husband had the ATW burger and I had the impossible burger. They were both so tasty and we liked that they weren't humongous burgers. We got fries too. We ate them so fast , I don't have a photo. Loved that we also got the cute burger candy with the order. read more

The burgers are really good but let me tell you what happened. I ordered frequently but looked at my receipt. If you notice, they say 100pct of tip goes to staff when you order. Well, I looked at my receipt out of curiosity qnd saw only half of my tip was listed and there were "fees". I thought it was a mistake till I ordered the next night to see. Somehow only half of my tips showed on the receipt. I asked staff and they had no idea or said online is different. Like wtf? Are they keeping half to pay staff because it is a busy burger joint. Anyway, I cannot support a business like this and will tell everyone I know. TIPS ARE FOR THE EMPLOYEES. read more

A welcome addition to the neighborhood especially for late night bites, though I'm not sure I would say it's better than 7th St Burger. Here are the ways in which it differs: sesame bun, less overtly greasy, the butter pickles shine more and give you a sweet, tangy, sourness. Less cheesy, and meatier patties. It doesn't melt in your mouth like 7th St Burger does and perhaps you might like that. But I think I prefer cheesier, saucier and greasier. Lettuce was ok. They do have fries that I didn't get to try and a variety of burgers on the menu so I may return. But overall, I would say 6.5/10 enjoyment for me -- that being said, if you're looking for a yummy burger late at night this is a good option. Really cool that they're operating out of a gas station, hope they stick around. read more

Gas station burger joint where you can grab a cheap bite and a basic brew. The loaded World Famous fries were actually quite delicious so I definitely recommend them! Cheap prices, and food is served up relatively quickly, good value for the price! Just like a typical gas station this is a grab and go spot unless you throughly enjoy taking in the fumes at one of the picnic tables out front... then enjoy at your leisure! read more
So, yes it is located in a gas station that has found it more lucrative to sell burgers than convenience items. So the ambiance is just as you would imagine. There is a counter with no inside seats. If it is a nice day two picnic table are there for you to sit. The burger is good with a nice amount of fresh shredded lettuce and special sauce. I would like to see more meat, but that is me. It's a good burger but not my absolute favourite. read more

So good! I love a good gas station restaurant and this did not disappoint. I never thought I'd find a good gas station spot in NYC but I found heaven here. The food was so good! I want to go back and try the rest of the menu. It wasn't too greasy and so filling. The pickles were sweet which was a nice touch. Not super expensive either, very affordable for the area. read more
