I highly recommend Dajio Restaurant. The meal was excellent. I had the blackened ahi on a salad. It was fresh and perfectly cooked. There's a decent but minimal selection of wines by the glass, and I went with a Sauvignon Blanc that paired perfectly. Most of the wines have good ratings by the major wine reviewers. Service was outstanding. The server had that classic beach-town ease (local or seasonal) but really knew the menu and did a great job. At one point, a woman who appeared to be management stopped by the table to check in. When she asked how things were, my answer was simple: "Incredible." The atmosphere is exactly right, relaxed but still polished, with just the right amount of energy without feeling crowded or chaotic. That balance is harder to get right than people think, and they've nailed it. I don't hand out compliments lightly, but this place delivers. Simple, fresh food, executed properly. No gimmicks, no shortcuts. This is absolutely a place you should try if you're in Ocracoke. I'll be back.

The bun was crispy and added a nice crunch. The burger patty was massive and juicy. The country ham was soft and not dry at all, and just fell apart in my mouth. The cheddar cheese was melted perfectly. The one negative was the caramelized onions. They were too thick and barely cooked. One fraction of the onion would be black and cooked while the rest was not even cooked. The onions needed to be cooked more and thinner to achieve caramelization and it really took away from the rest of the burger. I had a side of the pimento mac & cheese. It's very different from most other mac & cheese as the pimento and jalapeño add some spices you don't normally have in a mac. It was very creamy and a unique experience, but not one that I enjoyed too much. I would come back here if I was craving a classic burger.

The grits are fried into cakes that have that crispy outside and smooth grits on the inside. On the specials we had the fried soft shell crab. While the crab had a nice light batter the crab shell isn't great but was made up with the lemon remoulade on top. The vegetables were under seasoned lacking salt and any other seasoning. The whole fried fish did stand out as a great dish with the fish cut into large strips, the light fry, and the Cajun remoulade to add some flavor to dip in. For dessert we had the special chocolate mousse cake which was delicious but nothing too special. Overall every item was good and our server was wonderful and I will plan on coming back whenever I'm in the OBX.
