The cake portion was very good, moist. Unfortunately I didn't care for the icing, seemed to lack deliciousness. I bought a St. Patty's cupcake day after the holiday and I asked if the cupcakes were leftovers and the staff member said no, the cupcake was baked fresh but not the icing; kind of turned me off that the whole product wasn't completely fresh. Size of cupcakes are pretty big too. Overall they weren't bad per say, but in DC Metropolitan area you have tough completion with places like Sprinkles, Georgetown Cupcake and Crumbs. This place doesn't have a thing on Gigis. The cake was moist enough but the overall cake just didn't taste good. It's like the chocolate had almost a fruity taste and the icing just wasn't good. In fact, we went back the next day to get my friend a cute cupcake t-shirt and when I had the chance to eat another cupcake, I passed on the opportunity, And that is saying a lot because I love cupcakes. We showed up 30 minutes before close and they looked closed; all seats were up on the table, no one was inside. But when we walked in someone immediately came to the counter. Absolutely yummy! First, I went into the store later in the afternoon, maybe 3:30ish, and often at bakeries later in the day everything is picked over and the display cases are starting to look sad, and you are usually stuck with whatever is left. The cupcakes available were still beautiful in the late afternoon, not picked over / left-overs. I got 4 (yes 4, just for myself) and they were all fresh... My plan was to have one per day, but when I left my plan changed to have one bite from each cupcake each day. MUCH better plan! After much deliberation and help from the girl working behind the counter who was very patient and gave me her advice (and wasn't too upset with me when I didn't go with her suggestion of key lime -- I just really don't like key lime, but if I did, the way she described it sounded great)... I picked wedding cake (which has an almond flavor), strawberry (where the cake and the buttercream frosting are both flavored with strawberry), chocolate (like a hostess, with cream filled), and oreo. I have to say, I took a bite of the hostess one and then threw it away - it just tasted ok and I really didn't need the extra calories if it wasn't to die for. It was good, but eh... BUT the other 3 were amazing. All 3 of them were fresh, and super flavorful and I don't think I could choose between the 3. Probably wedding cake first, then maybe strawberry. But it would be a close call. The cupcakes kept wonderfully from Tuesday afternoon thru Thursday afternoon. Great chocolate cupcake!! Visiting from Chicago, I have searched far and wide for a cupcake this moist and light. Back home, small 'cupcake boutiques' are literally everywhere and although this place has significantly less variety than most... If all of their cakes are as good as the chocolate 'birthday cupcake' they're in great shape. Five stars is strictly for the quality of the cake. The decor, ambiance, and even overall display could use revamping. I've been to shops like 'Molly's' in Chicago where all of the treats are mediocre (at best) but there are board games with great decor/lighting so even on a Friday night at 11, it's jam packed! This place has a lot of potential, but needs a fresh take to a tired concept. read more

I almost drove by this place and wish I would have. The lady behind the counter seemed to be bothered by me being there. I asked her which was her favorite just so I could have some help with deciding and she told me to hold on while she answered her cell. She walked back and forth and then asked the person to hold on, asked me what I wanted to get and put my cupcakes in a box and sent me on my way. I decided instead of trying to eat these in the car I would have one there. The cupcakes tasted like cornbread muffins and the frosting was pasty. I threw them away. On my way out of town I saw their sister cupcakery in Fort Walton Beach and stopped in there to see if maybe a different location would have better cupcakes and service. The Fort Walton store is much cuter and the ladies were very friendly. Now these cupcakes tasted like cupcakes, I had the oreo and chocolate cupcakes and they were delicious.
