This candy shop has been around for a very long time from what I've heard. Saw this place and decided to come after a few beach visits. I came here alone the first time after spending a few hours at the beach nearby and friend was golfing. There is a front and a side entrance to the place. My first visit was basically checking out the place. They have a wide variety of chocolate and many other candies. Salt water taffy's, they got 'em. There are also other cool finds here as well. Basically a candy and a souvenir shop. Came back with a friend after eating at Nearby Back Porch. I snagged up some Sugar Free candies the 2nd visit. They taste nothing like sugar free and taste like the real candy. This is definitely another place to visit in Destin whether you're spending a day at the beach to getting dessert after dinner. read more

The caramel on the caramel apple was runny and the granny Smith was not too good. The worker didn't know how to cut the apple properly and there were no utensils to eat the apple with. The toffee was chewy and not crunchy. Salt water taffy was so so. Don't waste your time or money here. read more

Quick & simple breakfast, gulf patio views, and delicious Italian coffee! This place was by our hotel and near beach access. We ordered togo breakfast sandwiches and coffee two days in a row and ate on the beach! Great way to save time and enjoy breakfast on the water! They also have a patio with servers if you want to dine in. The restaurant is also a candy store and souvenir shop! The wait time is a little long for food, but all in all I was pleased! A group of us went here for breakfast/brunch instead of the candy. The atmosphere was great. It reminded me of a smaller Cracker Barrel, more intimate. Our server was very good--prompt, knowledgable and humorous. My husband ordered an omelet (his usual) and to my dismay, but not surprise, they really didn't have too much for me. What I did get was okay tastying--nothing special. My husbands omelet, was only okay as well so we left a little dissapointed; but, what do you expect from a candy store/gift shop. I personally think this business is very strange. Candymaker is a candy shop, frozen yogurt shop, breakfast restaurant, toy store, beach sundries and gift shop all rolled into one chopped up store. Also it's very dark inside, oddly dark. The selection of candy was very small, especially in the taffy section. The taffy was one of the main things that always drew me into their other locations. They featured a large selection of flavors and it was always delicious, made in house they say. This "newer" location had very few flavors, maybe a dozen and several bins were at the bottom of the barrel. I was hoping for five pounds of lemon for a party and there were possibly 10 pieces left, a few were even open. I would have asked for assistance but the employees all seemed too busy to realize I was even in there. Parking is ridiculous. If it's a sunny day your chances of finding a parking spot are very slim because of their location next to the beach and no dedicated parking spots. I tried twice before to get in here and it was impossible! Finally made it in on a rainy day... All in all I guess I could envision our tourists coming in and enjoying their experience, especially coming off the beach on a beautiful day however it's just not for me. This has more to do with the experience vs. the food but I'm going to start with the food. It was decent. Nothing to rave about. For the price vs. quality of food they are definitely over priced. They are no donut hole but charge as if they are. The waitress this morning was not the most polite. She made it known to everyone that she was too busy to do basic things like fill coffee. We waited over 5 minutes to check out at the register as two employees walked all around us but wouldn't assist us. During that time I saw sliced oranges sitting on a cleaning rag, that must taste nice as well as an open gallon of milk just sitting there with the cap off. Needless to say we will not be returning. Between the mediocre food and the terrible service it left us very unhappy that we went there. We learned to stick with our gut and just go to where we know is amazing. read more

Discovered this cute little candy shop while on vacation in Destin. Nice place to stop in and get your candy fix. The shop offers all the usual (chocolate, gummies, jelly beans, taffy, fudge) and even some older stuff (candy cigarettes!). There's a window-selection of fresh made sweet treats, which seem to be made in-store. The fudge, truffles and other sweet eats are just too tempting not to try! My favorite is the taffy, fro-yo and chocolate seashells. The taffy was chewy and flavorful, not hard like it had been sitting in the store for ages (which is always my fear when going to small-shop candy places). In fact, two weeks later and I'm still chewing on this fresh taffy - winner! If you're not into all the candy, do yourself a favor and try the salted caramel fro-yo! I am a fro-yo fanatic and their salted caramel is by far one of my favorite flavors I've tasted. What a refreshing, sweet treat to have after sunbathing on the beach all day. Last but certainly not least, snag a bag of chocolate seashells for the road! Similar to chocolate rocks, but the seashells are a nice, SWEET souvenir and the candy coating is delicious. Another bonus is the place has free WiFi, indoor and patio seating and offers a small menu of food items - not too shabby. read more
