What a wild experience. Staying at a nearby hotel, thought we'd swing by Ben & Jerry's to get ice cream one evening. Who would've thought it would be so difficult. My husband got a chocolate shake and you would've thought he asked for them to give him a round trip ticket to the moon on a waffle cone spaceship. He asked for a chocolate shake with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce and they reacted as though this was a brand new invention he came up with on the spot. Revolutionary. I don't even mean to sound like a jerk - it was just wild. Anyway, they couldn't deliver and basically gave him a vanilla shake with chocolate sauce on top. I got a dairy free shake that I'm 50/50 on whether it was actually dairy free (even though I asked about four times to be sure). Zero stars. We walked up to the doors a minute before close - the employee rushed over and flipped the "open" sign to "closed." We stood in front of the door and said "oh okay it's okay! Yay! I'm a fan! I've been to other ice cream stores, but I've never been to Ben & Jerry's. And there's no Ben & Jerry's in Birmingham :( From what I understand, this location has only been opened about a year. It is easily visible and right off a popular section of Hwy 98. Even on a Tuesday night around 8, the place was packed. The interior can seem a little cramped but there is ample outdoor seating. Of course everyone's heard of this national chain that was popularized by Jimmy Fallon of the Tonight show since they created a flavor for him called none other than "The Tonight Dough starring Jimmy Fallon". And since there were no B&J's in Birmingham, I was excited about trying it. The Tonight Dough is a chocolate ice cream with caramel, chocolate cookie swirls, chocolate chip cookie dough and peanut butter cookie dough! I also chose to have it served on one of their chocolate dipped sugar cones and it was also yummy! The others in our group also got the Butter Pecan, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chocolate Therapy and Phish Food. All were fantastic with my favorite being The Tonight Dough with Chocolate Therapy coming in a close 2nd! When my wife finished her Chocolate Therapy she said "Now that's good therapy!" She was very patient with me and I really appreciate the hospitality! My girlfriend ended up getting the Butter Pecan which is actually discontinued in a lot stores, so she was excited! Unfortunately, I couldn't find a flavor I liked, but I think that's because I chugged a huge Powerade before we came. Total came out to $5 and some change.
