I loved his attitude- he came in so full of joy, and never lost that joy throughout the project. You can tell he loves what he does. He was the only contractor who seemed to really hear me when I said what I had hoped for, and then he pitched his own ideas along those lines. We took almost all his ideas- which were really innovative and interesting. He followed up with me a couple days after the estimate (the only contractor to do so), and I figured if he was that interested in the job, his company would definitely do it well- I was right. A lot of the other contractors we interviewed made us feel like the job was too small for them, but we never felt that way with Avi and his crew. He always answered our calls or texts- which is actually pretty rare in this business. He was very responsive- never shirking responsibility- and definitely willing to fix any problems that came up during the whole process. That being said, there were a few problems. The project ended up taking about 2 weeks longer than originally estimated, and also cost quite a bit more. Some of that was just the nature of upgrading an 85 year old house (we had cloth wiring that needed to be entirely ripped out and replaced, and that process probably delayed our "simple" remodel by about 1 week.) Unfortunately, we also had some issues with the custom cabinets not being the right size, but Avi got the cabinet company to come back and make the fixes. The window sills were supposed to be made of the backsplash granite, but there was an issue with the measurements for that too, and we ended up with wooden sills instead. They still look great. This was my first experience with remodeling, and after talking to several friends who have had much worse experiences, it seems my issues were rather minor and not out of the ordinary. The most important thing is that Avi responded to and corrected all of the issues in a timely manner. In the end, all that really matters is the finished product. And the finished kitchen is truly beautiful! Avi's team, Luis and his son, were outstanding. You could tell they take a lot of pride in what they do, and they never half-assed any part of the remodel- the floor, the replacement dry wall, the trim, the window sills, the painting- it was all done with a lot of care and pride in making it right! Everything came out exactly as planned, and their proposal worked within our budget while the final result far exceeded our expectations. Communication was excellent throughout the project. Mike and both of our foremen were responsive, easy to work with, and kept us informed along the way. The crews worked long days and accomplished major milestones in a very timely manner. We also appreciated how flexible the entire team was whenever we wanted to make an update or change during the project. Because our home was built in 1957, we knew there was a possibility of uncovering some additional work once construction began. As expected, we ended up needing some significant updates, including repiping and a new electrical panel to bring our home up to current code. MC Construction handled these unexpected items extremely well. The work was completed at a fair price, and our foremen worked closely with the city throughout the permitting and inspection process. We passed every inspection without an issue, which gave us a lot of confidence in the quality of their work. For years, we had been curious about expanding our home to include at least one additional bathroom…read moreand bedroom. We didn't know where to start. In our search for a contractor, we had three (3) contractor quotes. We settled with MC Construction and Design based on responsiveness, details and feel. During our Design Phase, we were able let our Project Manager know what we were looking for. He was able to provide a rough design immediately to get us started. Once we finalized our design, MC was able to provide a floor plan and some alternates to consider. This process was quick and smooth, and designs were submitted to the city within a couple of weeks. Our Project included the following three (3) phases: 1. Home Addition - adding 1.5 bathrooms, 1 bedroom and den (~400 sq. ft.) 2. Driveway Replacement 3. Garage Foundation Re-footing After plans were approved, the Project Manager/Owner (Mike) came to introduce himself and the team. Work began the next day. The project scope was estimated to take 6 - 8 months, they completed it in 5 months. The PM and Contractor team was quick to provide updates and answer any questions or concerns during the process. Communication was great. Whenever issues with the home were found, honest recommendations were provided, with no pressure. And also, any minor adjustments were made upon request. I had to wait another 2 days until they obtain for me an emergency repair permit (their structural engineer is professional and very productive as well!) Repair (and building and safety inspection) was completed in 3.5 days, and today, they cleaned up and packed their giant trailer and left my property repaired and clean.
