One star is far too many for this self-proclaimed "self-defense" school. I had asked for in-person…read moreclasses, but was instead steered towards an online version, wherein I was assured that I would learn valuable vocal tools that would help me defend myself. Alas, after a lengthy introduction, wherein we were all prompted - no less than four times - to state "our pronouns" out loud and repeatedly, we were taught what to say to friends who hug us without our consent. There was nothing about real self-defense, just made-up "microaggressions" for those with no spine or sense of self. Let the record show that when I chose to not specify "my pronouns" (on a Zoom call wherein no one was being referred to in the third person), I was not only called out on the call, but messaged in the private chat by the instructor who was concerned that I wasn't jumping on the pronoun bandwagon. I'm guessing they got grant money during the shut-down, and were thus strongarmed into this kind of indoctrination, but it was offensively misleading to call this a self-defense class, when it would be more accurately described as a reeducation camp.

The classroom environment was supportive and encouraging in the true sense of the word--giving students the courage to face the challenging training exercises. Instructors are fantastic facilitators, covering tons of pertinent, thoughtfully prepared information in an authoritative yet sensitive manner--all in only a few hours. I've taken their basics course twice now and was surprised by how much I learned each time. I would definitely take the advanced course or return to basics again. I highly recommend the class to everyone, regardless of their age, lifestyle, fitness or history.

The teacher seemed unable to manage kids in this age group. 90% of the classes ended up being split into groups where some slightly older kids were teaching the younger kids. The older kids aren't trained to coach and help with techniques. I feel with the amount you pay each month, your child should be taught by someone with coaching experience and help them to become comfortable and familiar with at least some skills. On top of that, Buyer Beware, they charge you a $200 fee to cancel your child's classes regardless of how long he or she attended classes at this dojo. They also charge you for classes even when the dojo is closed for repairs like floor installation or A/C outage. I would not recommend or return.

My five year old son told me he wanted to be a Karate kid. This is the first place we tried out and…read morewas his favorite of all the places we tried. What I love about this place is the one on one help each child gets during the lesson. Master Jim really lights up while working with the kids. You can tell he loves teaching Taekwondo. They learn discipline and respect, counting and other words in Korean. The lessons also help with focus and concentration. Class here is the highlight of my little man's week. Every morning he asks if today is a Taekwondo day. I wasn't sure how he would do with three days a week, but he absolutely loves it. I am watching my little unsure shy guy come out of his shell. He memorized the rules of Taekwondo after his second day and is just so eager to keep or practicing and learning more.

Master Jim is patient, kind, yet, stern. He has high expectations for his students in (and out) of class and teaches without demoralizing. (The classes are taught with Korean immersion so students are learning skills with correct terms. I LOVE THIS!) The Dojang is clean and the atmosphere is intimate, friendly and structured. My son has been enrolled for 2 weeks and I have seen a positive and dramatic change in his character. Example: Last week the children had some fun skill building challenges. If he would have "lost a challenge" 2 months ago, he would have had a major meltdown. On Friday, he dropped and did 5 push-ups and then sat straight up to wait his turn for the next challenge.

I want to be very clear: I value my integrity deeply and would never say anything that is not true…read more I find it offensive that you would even suggest otherwise, and that speaks volumes about your own character. If you have concerns about your reimbursement rate from the insurance company, that is an issue to address with them directly--not with the member. It is completely inappropriate to direct that frustration at me. Most importantly, the way you spoke to me was entirely unacceptable--especially as a professional addressing a woman. Due to the way I was treated, I will not be returning, and I will not engage in further discussion on this matter. This will be my final communication. I normally don't do reviews but I just had the worst experience at Snap fitness on Carmel from a person who appeared to be the manager. I had gone earlier in the week and had to manually check in. I went this morning and was greeted by the same man who opened the door. I was about to tell him my name and he said I know you. I lose money on your membership. I get access to snap fitness through Presbyterian health plan. When I went to the front desk, he proceeded to ask me why don't you come more often. I lose money on your membership in a very degrading voice and demeanor. He continued to repeat saying I lose money on your membership and was extremely frustrated by me even being there. I did nothing to provoke this man to speak to me in the manner in which he did or question why I don't go as often as he thinks I should. I walked away to the bathroom to compose myself and came back out and asked him how does he think it's okay to talk to a member the way that he spoke to me . I told him it was none of his business on the frequency of me going to the gym and I do not need to explain to him why or why not. I go there to improve my overall well-being and health. Him coming to me in a very aggressive manner saying that he loses money on my membership and why don't I come was completely out of line and unprofessional. I told him shame on him for treating his members in the way that he did and walked out.

I moved to ABQ during Covid and I joined the gym but could not get into the mental space required to wear a mask doing a workout. Then I procrastinated... I thought I would go during the night since it's open 24/7 but that did not happen. I have since left this gym - but I do want to impart the following: 1. The staff was very efficient and welcoming. 2. The process to sign up was easy. Everything came to me via email and electronic signature. 3. The facilities are very clean. 4. There is plenty of parking. 5. Everything was in working order. 6. As mentioned, you can access the gym with your key card at any time. 7. They have soft cloths and cleaning fluid (non-toxic) that you can use to clean equipment as you move from cardio equipment and weight machines. I loved this because everything was clean and yet there was no paper towel waste either. The only drawback for me, and partially why I did not go more often, was due to the fact that I just felt like I stood out as an older adult in the place. I like to be more anonymous. This gym is on the small side and it is pretty obvious who is working out. There also is not a huge amount of cardio equipment - but then again, this gym is rarely crowded. I did like that too. I would go back again, and I do recommend this gym quite highly.
