I have always purchased reliable phone protective cases because I know I often fumble my phone and watch it fly through the air in slow motion before it lands on the sidewalk. My wife prefers a cute cover that doesn't really protect. She recently dropped her iPhone on the patio and cracked the glass into a wonderful mosaic pattern. This repair shop was nearby so we gave it a try. We called and were told we could come by during certain hours to drop the phone off at their office. The repair guy was friendly and let us know this would be a cash transaction (the price was quite reasonable). While dropping the phone off he told us to come back in two hours. I'm just gonna summarize my mediocre (turned frustrating) experience Samsung S4: broken LCD, glass, and digitizer - 200 for an replacement from Samsung +1 year warranty. - picked the phone up - noticed apps are missing... okay? that's... odd. - went to school, glued myself to my computer to write a thesis due in two days. (seriously speaking, my phone has spent more time in my bed than i have this week.) - phone runs out of battery, plugged it in - ERROR MESSAGE: "charging paused. battery temperature too low" - my phone thinks it's -25 degrees Celsius. (that's -13 degrees Fahrenheit and impossible in OC.) - replaced the battery, used different chargers, turned it off and on again, etc. nothing works. what the hell happened to my phone over there? - asked the previous owner if she had any temperature issues, she says no. - i also have not had any temperature issues (because if i did i would've gotten it fixed prior to this review, obviously) - i call and this guy is seriously interrupting me while i'm trying to clearly explain my situation - he's basically blaming it on me and implying that i MUST have done something. No. - i have had the phone for 12 hours - this literally happened at two in the morning today. - I even turned it in to this store at 90% battery earlier this week. Originally, I took my shattered screen in for repair, and Shervin (owner) promised me he could fix it by the end of the day for $70. However, I didn't get my phone until 4 days later... All the while, he kept telling me "it's almost ready, you can pick it up really soon!" Every time I checked in or drove there, it would be "just about ready" but then turn out not to be. When I finally did get my phone back, I waited two hours in his shop as he "put the finishing touches on it". THEN, a week later, my phone screen cracked again. I thought it was kinda suspicious. I hadn't done anything to it. I decided to let it go and went back to Shervin again since the price was so good. He said he'd fix it for me in a day, but by this time I knew it would be much longer. A few days later, he called to say that my phone had cracked again when he put in the new screen. There was a problem with the frame that had been causing the screen to crack. I knew it! He tried to get me to pay more money for the repair, but after I argued with him (that it was his fault for not repairing it properly the first time), he agreed to give me the second fix for free. After pressuring Shervin a lot (because I had a big trip coming up), I got my phone a week later. Just one day after getting my phone back, I noticed these sort of ripples appearing in my screen. At this point they've spread all around the frame of my screen (see picture). Additionally, my phone cracked AGAIN in the same place it did before. I've called, emailed, and texted Shervin trying to ask him about this repair, but he won't respond to me. All along he had been pressuring me to leave a 5 star review here, but I thought I should wait to see how things went, and now that I'm $70 in with my phone in an even worse state than I started with, my only consolation is to leave this review here so that you won't get suckered in by this sleazy guy. read more

Whatever you do, AVOID this place! Incompetent, incompetent, incompetent. So I was having issues with my Galaxy S7's battery not lasting as long as it should have. Since I want to keep this phone for at least another year, I figured I would just get it replaced. I saw this place on Yelp and even though it had a couple one star reviews, overall it has high reviews and it was super close to work, so no problem! I should have listened to the one star reviews! First off, let me just say, I give him a call and scheduled a time to come in, and BOTH times, he wasn't there and I had to leave. This is WITH an appointment. First time, okay maybe he just forgot. But the second time I made an appointment to go in, I explicitly said, "Hey, I missed you last time, can we make sure that you're going to be there at this EXACT time", and guess what? He wasn't there when I got there. I was a little early, so I gave him a call and he said that he was not there and wouldn't be there for another hour... Okay, so if you're able to even get a hold of this guy, when you walk into his shop, be prepared for the dog piss smell! Seriously, it's heavy in the air. Trust me, I have a dog, I know what dogs smell like, but there's no reason your shop should smell like straight up piss. Learn to mop your floors! Sure, fine. From one dog owner to another, I understand. Man's best friend. But on top of this, the man is kinda creepy. I am a guy so when I read the other reviews about that, I thought I would be spared, but during my exchanges with him, I couldn't shake the creepy air. He made some weird comments about how I was really mature for my age? What the hell does that matter? I'm here to do a business transaction, stop wasting my time. I visited him during work hours too because I missed him during my lunch hour, when he promised he'd be there. At this point, I'm just hoping that the repair would work and I'd be out of that shop and never return. Guess what? This incompetent man assured me that his shop uses genuine OEM parts, but my battery was at a 75% capacity when he put it in. It was around 2200 mAh with no cycles put on the battery yet. This is not the 3000 mAh genuine Samsung battery. On top of that, he didn't put the back glass back on correctly. He gave me an excuse about how it was impossible to remove the glue from the back panel and if I wanted a completely flush back panel, I would have to pay another $50! I even tried to contact him again, to see if we could do something about this low capacity battery. I made the second appointment, came to his shop, and he stood me up again. I tried to call him but it went nowhere. He called me back while I was driving back to work, so I couldn't pick up, but I called him again as soon as I got to work, but no answer. So I'm fed up at this point, and I decided to do the repair myself. I didn't want to keep wasting my time with this shop. I bought all the parts necessary, and borrowed my friend's heat gun. Guess what? It's totally possible to install the back panel so that it's flush. And now I have a battery that is properly 3000 mAh (almost). Incompetent, incompetent, incompetent. WOW where to even begin. 1) I have messages where they quoted me $60. And Screenshots where they knew I was coming in at a certain time. I work HARD for my money and sacrificed my lunch break and gas to drive over there. 2) The guy photographed in the Yelp page told me his name was "Tom" (bleach blonde hair; long nails; drives a white chevy) and that I spoke with Sherwin who didn't let him know that I was coming in at 12pm. Why break my LCD when I brought it to you not broken? Only my glass was broken. 4) On top of that he told me it was going to take 1hr - 1.5 hrs to fix my phone for it to run thru a machine. I've never had to have my phone replaced with a machine?? It's a couple of screws...I may be a girl and young - but I'm not stupid?! 5) Here's where I was stupid. He tells me he doesn't have the parts and that I can go down the street (he points I'm thinking its walking distance...HE TELLS ME ITS WALKABLE) to grab the parts. He already unscrewed my phone. I'm thinking what the hey I'll go. He started heading to his car.... WHY did I get in the car. And drives for 20-25 minutes. MY GOD. We get to the warehouse and he tells me he'll drop the price from $85 to $80. "You have cash right?" No. He never once told me they were cash only. You wasted my hour already you can't accept Square, or Venmo? "No we don't have that accounts." then he tells me " You're Asian. You don't have cash for when you buy donuts in Garden Grove?" Pretty sure he's high on weed the 2 times I have seen him at his shop, but that doesn't bother me since I smoke as well. What bothered me was that the screen protector that he claims to be "the best" was not even close to being good. So here's the story: I went in for a glass screen protector for my iPhone and he pulls out this "best $50 glass protector" that he will sell me for $20 because they have a special going on. When he put it on, it looked fine, but after a day there was a giant bubble on the side near my frame, and we figured out that it was due to a bent frame. So this incident was not his fault. The 2nd visit was after I had gotten a new phone from the Apple store because of the bent frame. He sold me the 2nd screen protector for $15 because I guess he felt bad or something, but I did not have exact change for him (I had two $10 bills), so he just accepted $10 as payment, which is really nice of him, but the next day I noticed the screen was coming off again, so I thought to myself "could it really be another bent frame?! I just got it swapped out at the Apple store a day ago!" At this time I was already in a rush because I was heading out of the country a couple days later so I did not have time to go back in. As it turns out, I was informed from 3 different screen protector shops in Taiwan that the glass protector he used is nowhere near great quality and that it's most likely from China. My frame this time was not bent. It was the screen protector's glue that was coming off, that's why the protector looked like it had air bubbles. Needless to say, I had that one removed at a shop in Taiwan and got an actual great quality protector from the shop in Taiwan. I just don't like being lied to about the products that I am coming to purchase from you. The 2 times I was in the shop, he had to ask another customer to make change for me because he didn't have change for my $100 and didn't have change when i had two $10 bills. He seems like he's not very prepared to own a business. 2 Star rating because he seemed nice, but at the end of the day, it's still about the product. read more

I've had a Yelp account for nearly four years and I've never felt the need to write a review until now. In mid-July, I dropped my black iPhone 4S on my friend's driveway. I picked it up to make sure the screen wasn't damaged. To my relief, it was fine because I had a screen protector on it. What I didn't notice until a few minutes later was that the back was cracked. My friend recommended Shervin at Smartphone Repair in Irvine and gave me his business card. She told me his prices were super low and his customer service was top-notch. Although I was initially tempted to go see him, I was determined to solve the problem on my own. After spending nearly a month trying to fix my phone, however, I finally relented and gave him a call Friday of last week. I told him what I needed and he assured me he would have it when I came in the following day. To make a long story short, I paid him a visit last Saturday. When I walked into his shop, I encountered a black German Shepherd lounging on the couch with a tennis ball in his mouth. Shervin greeted me from behind the counter with a warm welcome. Without missing a beat, he promptly went to work on my phone. He took out the cracked back panel, added it to his infamous Wall of Shame and replaced it with a new one. The whole process took abut 10 minutes to complete. In the time it takes you to read this review, he will make your phone look new again. Easily one of the quickest repairs I had to go through. I had a cracked camera lense and a missing cover for the charging port of my Galaxy S5, and he had all of the spare parts in stock! (He explains that he is always up to date with the current hardware.) My fairly new SmartPhone operation went ballistic. Verizon Store could not fix it. I called a search for Smart Phone Repair, firts listing was only two blocks from me. Rode my bike to see it before the net day after work, and I could not find a sign for it on the windows. SO, I looked up at work the next day and noticed that it was miles from me but on the way home, so take Android phone to him today. Hard to find his address but eventually found it. Walked through a wood/glass door which has a digital keypad lock on it, but it was open. Walked past a shop with people in it and asked if he could repair a smart phone. He asked me what is wrong and I explained I was the guy who talked to you about my phone twice. He gave me a piece of paper to explain, but he didn't grasp the damage. He was a mechancial repair lens, or hinge repair, no phone operation or software repairs. So I left and called a repair guy who called me at work and for $185.00 he repiared my phone, in my home. He spent time asking why I rate his company so low which was three stars, and I told him it is how I feel about this repair ritual. Shervin, the owner is an awesome guy, and he knows his stuff. I had 2 Galaxy S4's laying around with cracked screens... I swear I always drop them face first on to the only rock within 5 yards(?) Anyway, I took them to him based on the recommendation of Squaretrade and the glowing Yelp reviews. He pretty much works 24/7, I called him 2 hours after his shop closed but he still picked up to answer some questions I had. I dropped off both phones the next day in the afternoon and he had them ready the following morning. If i were to ding him on anything, a few days later one the phones developed a weird streak between the glass and lcd, so I called him up (again like an hour after his shop closed) and he advised me to bring it in for repair free of charge. Now both phones are perfect. That's called customer service and taking responsibility for your mistake when he could have easily just tuned me down. I respect that! When our Android S5 screen cracked, I found out from quite a few repair stores that it wasn't an easy fix and many didn't do it at all due to the thin glass and different type of glue used that made the job difficult. Most of them wanted only to replace the glass and LCD together to make it simpler. After talking to Shervin, he indicated it wouldn't be a problem and the price was much lower than the competitors.
