It may have a blue collar appearance, but the taste was white collar all the way. This place is hidden in the middle of the block , but I heard the have. $1 panini ham and cheese sandwich for a buck . You got to the counter and order your food through the window at the back of the store! There are no seats inside , but this sandwich you can eat and walk as you go! Mine came with/ mayonnaise and butter , sooo good ! I got two ham sandwiches. Basically I would eat it as soon as it comes off the grill . The owner he's he's very cool . Ask me how you find out about me? I said instagram page . There are other items too . So bring cash . You won't spend a lot of money here . I was born and raised in East Harlem and I moved out to Florida. Every time I come back, I end up at Smashiess for the HAM AND CHEESE MAYONNAISE HOT. 4 bucks now. I remember the 2.25 when the spot was across the street. You're not going to get a better pressed sandwich for the price. Plus it's official Spanish style press, nice and flat, melted cheese perfectly. Not that downtown, panini press for 17 bucks that can't hold a candle to this sandwich. Menu at Smashiess is large. Seriously, from the time i was like 11 years old, this was the spot and we all knew about it. Since I was 11, I have gone to this place to get a salami and cheese, hot, which is accomplished using a sandwich press. This place has been well liked by locals for decades. I used to get a sandwich and a strawberry yoohoo...then they just stopped stocking strawberry yoohoos...and when I was able to get one, I think the formula changed cause it was nasty. Also the sandwiches are really really reasonably priced, as in cheap. The place is really small and people pop in and out all the time and if you dont know any better they all have their own code. There is also lots of candy. If you are one of those east harlem gentrification transplants that funded the buyout that took me elsewhere, you owe it to yourself to get you a sandwich...(wow...how does he go from gramatically sound to writing in brooklynese so easily? Smashiess is my go to when I want a fast but great quality burger that is made with never frozen beef. I am totally hooked on the Texas burger. One fried egg bacon and a freshly made patty seasoned to perfection. Inside your burger you are also blessed with fried onions ketchup mayo and barbecue sauce. I almost forgot to mention that the bun is just right. Soft but sturdy never gets gooey from the sauces and juices. Smashiess aso looks really unique hidden behind a juice stand like a tucked away secret. Best 'smashed'/panini type sandwich around. This is a grab and go type spot; there are no seats or tables. I always get a pastrami with american cheese on a hero, with mayo and honey mustard, hot. The sandwich is pressed down on a grill, which smashes and smooshes all the hot melty cheese into the bread and meat. It's perfection. The price is right too, which is awesome. This bodega can barely hold five people standing. Having said that, it is THE spot in Spanish Harlem for cheap yummy smoothies, sandwiches, burgers, fries, and other eats. Their "smashies" sandwiches are hot and pressed flat (a la plancha) and can't be beat for 2-5 bucks! Their burgers are also very inxpensive and yummy, and WAY better than grabbing a burger at McDonalds. (You've done it before, don't lie!) Also their smoothies are pretty good, and only 3 bucks and change. Basically, if you want a sandwich or burger that's quick, hot, fresh, and under 5 bucks go to Smashies. Waiting for your food can be a little awkward due to the small space but hey, you can't beat the price. Also they have something new called the "Smashiess Challenge" that says if yo can eat their 16oz burger in under 5 minutes you get it for free and get to be put in the Smashiess Hall of Fame. At midnight:thirty on a thursday night, I, along with 3 other friends found ourselves in the east harlem area. When our tummies grumbled, the guys knew where we had to go: smashiess. This no frills and very small deli has infinite menu items. If they carry the ingredient- they can make the sandwich. There is even a juice area where you can grab a fresh smoothie. Smashiess is a standout when it comes to delis. Its probably the only deli i have been to where I ordered several sandwiches that were less than $3 a piece. And The only deli that I ate in, standing up, talking to the Mr. Smashiess himself (what a great guy). Smashiess never closes so no matter what time of day it is , you will be able to grab a hero pressed thin, crispy, warm, melty and gooey. If you are up for a challenge, smashiess has lots! You can win $200 if you eat five slices of bread in under 1 minute. Or get on the wall of fame if you can finish the 16 oz burger in under 5 minutes (ladies, if you accomplish this, you eat at smashiess free for the rest of your life...) I really appreciate this place. Highlights: Cum in Your Mouth Burger, Surf and Turf Sandwich, Elvis, and the eddie spaghetti. I grew up in east harlem and have been eating at Smashies forever. Its a hole in the wall but they have some of the best cold and hot sandwiches in NYC. Their burgers are fresh made and way better then any fast food joint also. They added a juice bar in the front now so you can order your choice of freshly made juices from a huge option of fruits and veggies. Its located right near the 6train so you can grab whatever you need coming or going. Its on 103rd and lexington and if you do happen to be in the area its a must have! read more

It's ok. You get what you pay for. The beef patties used here are the frozen patties you get from your local supermarket. They don't use fresh ground beef. There are a some items in the menu that they never have the time to do because it takes to much work. This place is highly rated but it's not worth going out of your way to get really. read more

You charged me $3.50 for a chopped cheese and your guy charged me $4.00 now maybe you gave me a discount but idk. This is not one of the cleaniest of places but if you got $2 dollars you can eat a quality sandwich that's called a Smashie. I finally had Smashiess and I almost wish I never had. I can't stop eating these damn sandwiches now. They're delicious and they cost 2-3 bucks! I grab one and go sit in the park, I grab one after a late night out, I grab one after a long day at work if I don't want to cook.
