Our doctor's office forgot to submit a prescription and were extremely difficult to get ahold of. Despite my doctor's office failing to answer or return calls, Helen was diligent and continued to contact them until the issue was resolved. I swear that these places that have a five star hire family or friends to write a good review. We have been dealing with this pharmacy and they are just not five star at all. we have spoken to them one day and just the next day when we are following up re a refill, they don't have the information, don't remember we spoke to them and then our medication refill is delayed. Or, we place the order, they confirm we are all set and we send a messenger to pick up the medication refill, and they never placed the order after all even though they claim they did. Or, they are rude and harsh. So if you are looking for a professional, polite, accuracy, place that follows thru with refills, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. don't waste your time. Many of us count on medications and that they are refilled when needed. The pharmacy is an important place for us and we don't need the pharmacist to get on the phone and make you feel like you are the idiot. there are great pharmacies out there then there are horrible, terrible and employees that are incompetent.....this is SMC. do i sound frustrated, oh yeah. i have given this place many chances and i am a fool but now i am completely done. I typically fill at Horton & Converse across the street, however they were out of my medication a month or so back. I decided to give SMC a try, since it was convenient & not a large chain pharmacy. Little did I know that I'd be seen as unworthy & pushed right out the door. I stood at the counter for a minute or two, until someone finally looked at me & came to help. They asked if I had been there before & obviously I said no. Before I could even hand them my prescription, he sighed and looked very uninterested. Upon handing him my prescription, he looked at it for literally a half of a second, I'm not kidding, it was a glance at most, and said "nope, we're out" and handed me my prescription back. I couldn't believe it. How do they get a customer base if they don't take new customers? I really don't understand. From the second I walked in to the moment I left, I felt as if I was a huge inconvenience to the entire staff. I certainly will not be back & do not recommend this pharmacy to anyone. Luckily, I was able to go back to Horton & Converse the next month without issue. I'm not saying to go to any one specific pharmacy, however I am saying that it would be in your best interest (if you're a new customer) to avoid this pharmacy. read more

I've been coming here for probably 6 years now and have always been impressed by the service here. Prescriptions are filled quickly, waiting takes no more than 15 minutes on average. Otherwise they can mail them to you automatically. Very responsive and organized service. I made the switch from the ubiquitous 3 letter chain because the terrible service and waiting in line. Pharmacy did not have prescription on the day I could come, said they would have it Monday I asked about payment for delivery while In the store though the sign has free delivery on the outer window, and they had previously delivered my medication at no charge. The lady on the phone made a comment saying so you're saying if this was CVS you wouldn't have these problems. No because CVS only charges for same-day delivery which they offer, not for next day, CVS is open on the weekends, CVS has 24-hour pharmacies... then after telling her no I can't have it transferred based on the contract I have with my doctor instead of listening she continued to cut me off with an attitude so I had to hang up I'm already on excruciating pain I'm not going to have someone trying to over talk me when I just told her I guess I'll have to suffer until I can afford to come that way... if she had been listening instead of talking maybe she would have heard that but she was too busy trying to ask me a question I already answered. read more

Everything else is false and just an appearance about their care and friendliness. The gentleman in the front named Marvin is rude, says one thing and states he didn't, places judgment on patients and also wants things done at the convenience of the pharmacy. This is the BEST compounding pharmacy in LA. Very competitive pricing!! WAY less expensive than other compounding pharmacies I was sent to by my doctor (in the valley). A family-owned shop, honest and kind. I am happy to give them my business. The front office staff is kind and patient, very helpful with answering all my questions. This place restores my faith in pharmacists. For a relatively prestigious career, it's surprisingly difficult to find a decent pharmacist who can combine critical thinking skills with customer service. I have had the WORST experiences with judgmental, pretentious people who make it clear that YOU need them, they don't need you. I visited SMC Pharmacy when my regular pharmacy was out of my prescription. They were extraordinarily polite over the phone, and the welcoming attitude persisted upon my arrival. First off - if you have to wait in a pharmacy, THIS IS THE PHARMACY TO DO JUST THAT. I think I might start shopping there even when I don't need a script filled. It was comforting to be surrounded by luxurious skin products and cool gadgets.. rather than blood pressure machines, hallmark books, and geriatric toilet seats. To the main point - everyone here is a gem. Not a single person I've dealt with has been anything but accommodating. Even when an issue has presented itself (insurance likes to have issues), they have gone OUT of their way to make it work for me. Most places tell you there's nothing they can do. There is NOTHING more infuriating than knowing there is an alternative, or possibly a way to make a situation work... and have to deal with someone who can't use their head, or refuses to because they don't "have to." SMC pharmacy deserves TEN STARS. I can't believe I didn't find this place sooner. I never thought I'd be writing a review about a pharmacy -- I swear I'm not an aging, debilitated, recurring drug addict with every disease known to man. But I do need a good, dependable pharmacy like most people do, and after being through the wringer with both Walgreens and CVS over the years I made the switch to this local-to-me place. Pros: A professional, cool, dependable and knowledgeable staff. No lines (hopefully this won't change with more people learning about it). They personally call you when your prescription is ready. They're on top of everything. Cons: They aren't open late or on the weekends -- this is the reason why I deducted one star, because it could be a big problem if you have a recurring prescription that for whatever reason you need on a weekend day. They need to at least be open on Saturdays, in my opinion. No, a drug store review is not as phat as a restaurant/bar/hamper store review. But this is the kind of thing that everyone needs in real day-to-day life, so it's awesome to find places like this that are independently owned and do a far better job than the chain giants like CVS and Walgreens that will try you heavily read more

When I walked out of SMC last week I was thinking about how they blew away every expectation I had of a pharmacy (or store/service for that matter) and how much stress they save me now. I am so impressed by them and thankful for their help (although to be honest I am slightly worried that the word will get out and then SMC will become crazy busy!) I initially switched over to them because they were the only ones who had my prescription when every CVS in town was out. Apparently the owner used to be a pharmacist for CVS but was frustrated with all their problems and decided to open his own pharmacy. SMC offered to call all my various doctors and get all my prescriptions changed over to them (I had just moved so that was a chore) - I literally did nothing and they handled all the hassle. Once when I was behind on a medication that I really needed they came and dropped it off at my office - that was such a huge relief. All I did was ask and it was no problem at all, even though I felt bad asking as they are a small place. They really work with their customers - If I need to drop off a prescription before they are open I just slip it under the door and in no time I have a call that my prescription is ready... the employees and owner are so kind, considerate, intelligent, and helpful - I just can't say enough good things about SMC. Seems like almost everywhere else tries to make excuses why they couldn't get you whatever it was you needed and SMC goes the extra mile to make sure you get everything you needed - and more - faster than you expected - in the way most convenient for you - and makes it a pleasant experience. read more

Small town customer service is what you can expect from this modern pharmacy. I was given a prescription that apparently CVS could not fulfill because it was a compound prescription. I was referred to a couple of pharmacies that could and that's how I came to discover SMC. Unbeknownst to me, the Rx was not something that could be filled in minutes, it had to be mixed. By the time I made it to the pharmacy, they were minutes from closing. I explained that my work schedule was quite hectic and it would be tough for me to try to come back and asked whether it was time sensitive that I start using this cream. To say that the folks at SMC came up with a creative solution is an understatement! They told me to leave the Rx with them and go ahead and prepay. That they would deliver the Rx to my residence once it was filled. And sure enough that's what they did! I came home from work the next day to discover a bag hanging on my door knob and my Rx filled. It's doubtful that they would have done this if my Rx was Vicodin or if I lived miles away (it was a cream for tendonitis and I live 10 blocks away) but regardless, WOW WOW WOW!!! That's what I call customer service :) Compound or not, Santa Monica Compound Pharmacy is my pharmacy of choice. I love their extra-mile effort and more importantly, the small town feel of how they treat their customers...so rare to come across such wonderful service nowadays. Touché!!! read more

I've never written a yelp review before but these guys deserve one. This place is by far the best pharmacy I've ever been to and I could not recommend them more! Not only are they kind and knowledgeable but they are on top of everything. I take a somewhat rare medication and they always make sure to order more for me when they're running low and will have my prescriptions ready for me even when I forget to call in a refill. And they are so speedy, I'm in and out of there in 5 minutes at the most, even when I'm dropping off a prescription for them to fill on the spot. I'm so happy to have found SMC, going to the pharmacy is no longer a huge hassle and they also deliver at no charge! Overall, these guys are just awesome. This place is ridiculous! They take forever. Called me to come in to pick up my prescription And when arrived it wasn't ready. They refused to put it through my prescription plan bc it's a compounded prescription and they told me insurance won't cover. I explained that I have a very unique plan and they likely will. They wouldn't even try but told me I could. Called insurance and it is covered. Monday I called for my refill and they said they need to speak to my doctor even though I have refills. It's now Saturday and........crickets. read more

By far the best pharmacy I have ever had. When I got really sick at work they dropped the medicine off in ten minutes. I hate waiting to pay a company money even if it is a grocery store and with these guys -- I NEVER HAVE A LINE -- am out of the store in 3 minutes. I won't be going to another pharmacy again. Not only is the whole crew welcoming, friendly, and passionate, they APOLOGIZED after not having my medicine ready after 10 minutes of walking in with a prescription. That is unheard of :) On top of that I just had an unfortunate scenario where I lost my job and CVS wanted to charge me $180 cash for a generic monthly medicine I take, so I asked SMC to take a look and their price was only $34 cash! Again this pharmacy lied to my girlfriend and myself today and gave us both the run around. They have a huge staff and work in a tiny space yet seem to have zero communication between the staff. The staff continues to treat us with disrespect and can never admit their wrongs or just do the basic thing and apologize. All they care about is over charging. They lied to me fifteen days ago and charged me 240 for a prescription that my insurance does cove and I should only pay 15 for! They were too lazy to call my insurance on the new prescription and they charged the credit card we have on file. And then today they sent my prescriptions to Burbank without my consent. This was after I talked to them on the phone and they said to come pick them up. Now my medicines are going to arrive in 2 days! No apologies on their part. This is also a partial filled prescription because they didn't have enough of my medicine when I went to fill it 16 days ago! I've suffered from a number of health conditions since birth and more still since I've hit my late thirties, so I've been in any number of pharmacies my whole life. I can honestly say without fear of contradiction I have NEVER had experiences like the ones I've had at SMC. Payam and his staff, Jerrol, Nathan, Jess and Nikki, go out of their way to educate themselves on their clients conditions; they make sure we understand what we're taking, how it should be taking, if there's a superior alternative, and if your insurance will cover it. In addition to that, as busy as they are (the place is unsurprisingly buzzing from the first moment of the day until they shut the doors) they remember your children's names, they ask about your day, and this year I got a lovely "Happy Birthday!" call from Payam himself. As I said, having health conditions is inconvenient, scary, sometimes painful and depressing. These people go out of their way to make sure your experience trying to correct these issues is as efficient, educated, and just plain kind as possible. read more

I almost hesitate to write this review because I hate for this gem of a business to get overly crowded and so popular that the lines might rival the dreaded large chains like Rite Aid and CVS (hate them!). However, their costumer service and care is SO excellent that they deserve the highest marks! This is the kind of place that remembers your name when you walk in the door. They call to inform you that your prescriptions are ready for pick up. As a first timer, if you don't have your insurance information handy they will actually look it up for you. The pharmacist will come out onto the floor to talk to you about homeopathic products and tell which brands he gives to his own mother! One time I needed a prescription prior to going on vacation and my doctor"s office hadn't approved the refill. They offered to send it to my hotel via fed ex. It just doesn't get better than that. Switched to SMC after frustration at CVS/Rite Aid/Vons due to chronic understaffing.
