I've had Smelter City Brewing on my "to try " list for a hot minute. Anaconda, Montana apparently has this name associated with it which I'm sure has nothing to do with the single, tall smoke stack in town that is now a tourist attraction. While I didn't go to the smoke stack... that is for another time when Steve and I can sight see together I did make a stop at the brewery as I didn't feel that it was too terribly far off of the Interstate. The brewery is nestled in downtown and the set up is pretty cool. There is a nice, spacious area inside the brewery but on nice days they do have outdoor seating on a patio. It was nice and warm on the day I paid a visit here so I took advantage of the outdoor option. The beer choice in my mind I also desired to have that would go along with the warmer weather would be a lighter beer. What fit the bill just fine was getting the Cool Hand Rice Lager. This was a nice, crisp beer that was just what I was looking for. A little bit biscuity and some hoppy bitterness going on that reflected this type of lager nicely. It was very refreshing to sit down to as my journey to Butte and the main event in Bozeman would mean hotter weather as that part of the trip unfolded. read more

First time here after walking the nearby copper trail. Everyone here was super friendly. I brought my dog and love that dogs are welcome inside and out. Lots of spaces to pick from including awesome outdoor spaces. The beer selection is great and they provided samples to help decide. I also had tacos while there - had the taco sampler (3) and they were excellent. There was street parking available nearby. I highly recommend and will definitely be back! read more

Historicaly we've loved Smelter City Brewing, but this trip wasn't up to our expectations. They now have a LOT of very happy beers. They used to have a good number of malty beers, which prompted us to return. We travel about 100 miles to have a beer there, so having a beer we like is important. Had the tap list been posted on their Facebook page or a website, we would have known not to make the drive, but it wasn't posted. We sampled a number of beers and my husband found something he would drink but it wasn't something he'd normally order and he didn't really like it. The server was very helpful and tried her best to help us find something we'd find drinkable. I sure hope they start posting the beers on tap so we can time our visits with malty beers. read more

The beer was very good. In the back, they have tacos. The fish tacos were good, but the asada tacos were not. Just plain beef chunks with no seasoning or flavor. Also, a little chewy. Stick with the fish tacos and beer. Maybe it's a little too far away from Mexico. read more

This brewery has great beer and a very cool atmosphere. I wish they'd have more live music, but that is my only complaint.

I'm not from the area stopped in at this brewery because it's an awesome old building all fixed up, but left with a bad taste in my mouth when I overheard the blonde bartender talking about sabotaging the new business across the street, seemed very hateful. read more

Happened to be in town for Smelter City Brewing's grand opening weekend. The entire town of Anaconda was abuzz about it-so we had to check it out. We went and enjoyed some $4 brews. I'm honestly just getting into the microbrew scene- so really can't say much about the beer. I enjoyed my Orchard ale though. The brewery was built in the old electric company building- gorgeous building. I'm not sure what the state of it was before, but the restoration is gorgeous. Hats off to the owners. Loved the honeycomb tile behind the bar and the awesome ceiling tiles. Can't wait to come back after they're more settled in. They were also selling super cool swag- but almost sold out! read more

I just stopped in after a hike up Lost Creek. I had a Pumpkin Gus complete with spices on the glass rim. Ok. I know. Funny specialty beer. Oh but it was so good!!!!!!!. This little brewery has potential. I wish I had the time for a flight. Guess I'll have to come back. The location is great - old Victorian bar clean, sparse, one tv. Definitely a gatheeing place. I think this is a nice addition to the Anaconda community. I'll be back for that flight! read more

This brewery had been in the works for a while, and took a long time to open. Me and my girlfriend would ask each other, "Is it really happening? Will it be any good?" - excited, but nervous. Anaconda and a brewery is beyond obvious - a natural fit. It actually happening seemed almost too good to be true. Then we'd overhear another local here and there mention something about their friend or family member working on it - carpentry, flooring, electrician. Ok, so it's GOTTA be happening. And then...holy cow. It's gorgeous. The most beautiful brewery taproom I've seen, walking distance from me. The beers are fantastic, and they do quite a few different styles (including a great gose). A lot of new breweries are too IPA-heavy (probably because they're one of the easiest styles to brew, or so I've heard). The staff are on-point. The regular daytime guy is cool and laid-back. The girls who work at night are really fast (which is good, because this place has blown up). Now that it's summer, they keep the doors open, and it's a great vibe. Free popcorn for the kids; dogs welcome (met a lot of sweet beautiful good boys and girls here). It's a pretty big space, so even when it's busy you can usually find a corner (especially in the back, where there's some neat art hanging on the walls). Between this place and the new Donivan's (which now has finally started carrying Smelter City's session beer), I'm really digging the upward swing downtown Anaconda has taken (and hopefully continues...). read more

This is a great brewery, tucked away in Anaconda, MT. The gal behind the bar couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating, getting us tastes before we decided and serving us quickly. She steered us to a small place nearby which had carry out lunch which we brought back to the brewery. I loved the Spring Berry Hef and my husband liked the Road to Wisdom, both regular beers on the menu. Great place! read more

Local as you can get in Anaconda. New brewery at one of the best spots in town. Beautiful, fully restored Victorian era saloon is worth the visit alone. Owner did a great job in keeping the restoration period correct. I visited the first week of operation, yet they had a decent selection of about 5 or 6 beers. No food yet and not sure if that's in the plan. Beer was good for their first run. 100% worth checking out. read more

Fun place! The bar and fan are just amazing! Really like the Montana Mimosa, Lemonade Stand, Brambleberry and Strawberry Fusion. The lemonade one was amazing! And I don't drink beer (tasted from my daughter's flight. I had the Smelter Water (raspberry seltzer) and it was great! Loved that it was tart and not too sweet. Perfect! Will be back! read more

We've been making the rounds of the local places since we moved to Butte, and one of our first trips was out to Anaconda and Smelter City Brewing. This place has a great atmosphere, and the bartender was very knowledgeable and friendly. Smelter has a wide variety of beer from IPAs to lagers to sours and saisons. Really nice place with a wonderfully diverse beer selection. Lost a star cause their signage is lacking and we had to circle the block to find the place. If you're there while the Gose is still on tap try it out: little sour, little salty, amazing. I was just bummed they didn't do growler fills of it. Definitely worth the stop. read more

Space is awesome, and the new beer garden puts it at a high level for outdoor beer drinking. You can get pizza around the corner and bring it in. The beer is generally very good, but there are often many tweaks of classic styles that just don't work. I never leave thinking about coming back for a particular beer. The menu changes very often so I recommend a visit, because there will always be something new. It looked like last time I was there they were brewing some standards like NE IPA or scotch ale. read more

We stopped in close to closing and did two flights so we could sample 8 of their beers. The Scotch Ale was probably our favorite, and the rest were decent beers. The building was neat, but it looks like they have just started into renovations. One server stretched pretty thin, but she did a good job handling multiple guests. read more
