What a fun place! We stayed in a hotel just next door, Stonecreek Lodge and walked across the street. We ate dinner at their taco food truck and had a couple beers in the brewery. Our favorite brewery of the trip, even though it was a bit far out there and had that industrial brewery look. It was quiet on a Thursday but service was quick and easy, both the bartender and the other woman working near the merch were super awesome. We both tried flights which were nicely priced, and we absolutely loved the shape of the flight boards. No food onsite that day but you may be able to bring your own. We loved the Huck it - was so good I bought some to bring home, and along with the summer bear (that had the bear on it) and the space goat. We ended up buying a ton of merch which was all decently priced. read more

We've been drinking Big Sky beer for sometime now but we have never visited the brewery until today. It's a large facility with lots of seating inside, decorated in the pioneer/Montana motif. We ordered a flight of beer to try some different styles. First off the flight board is one of the coolest ones I've seen (I've been to 500 different breweries) it's a vibrant painted metal Bull skull (see picture). The girl behind the bar was great, the ambiance was relaxing and the beers were good. read more

Stopped by while in town for 2 days and had to swing by as our hotel was a quick walk across the street. Moose Drool is their obviously well known beer. But the Big Sky Country Pilsner and the Mexican Mocha Slow Elk were my other favourites. Definitely swing by to Big Sky if you're in town! read more

Love this brewery! Not only do they have the some of the tastiest beers, but they also have great ambiance within the tasting room. You honestly can't go wrong with any of the beer choices! Also, if you get the chance I would also suggest checking out a concert here in the summer, you won't regret it. Big Sky Brewing is one of the larger (perhaps the largest) breweries in Missoula. I was always fond of their brown ale, Moose Drool. I had it on a couple of occasions prior to writing this review and had one just before writing this review to make sure it was how I remembered it and indeed it was. With malty sweetness (but not too much) this brown ale is always a good beer to come to. I believe it also is their most popular because the brewery cans a day distributes it and I see it in stores fairly often. I believe I have only had Moose Drool from this brewery but I fixed that recently and got an IPA of Big Sky. Shake-A-Day was the other Big Sky beer that I had. An Imperial IPA this IPA was much more refreshing than many with it's piney, hoppy and slightly sweet flavor that combined together to make a very formidable IPA. Definitely a winner! Looking forward to trying more beers from Big Sky but I definitely won't be left in a lurch if Moose Drool is the only option I have! read more

Stopping in Big Sky Brewing Company for a beer has been on my list for years. I enjoy their beers here in Denver from time to time, but I've always wanted to see where they brew. The tasting room is big and modern, with great art, most of which is for sale. They are plagued by a stupid state law that limits their beer sales to 48oz per person, per day, which sounds like no big deal, but I traveled 900 miles to visit and would have liked to enjoy a few beers. I had a DD, but the local government doesn't want to support their small businesses. I digress. The way around this is to buy packaged beer and head out into the beautiful Missoula outdoors. All in all a great stop. A lot of great beers on tap and plenty of merch. I found it to be a little spendy compared to CO craft breweries but to each their own. read more

Traveling through and staying at a nearby hotel. Arrived about an hour before closing. Wife and myself say at the bar. Service was prompt and friendly. Pours were simply amazing. Bartender, not even sure if that's the right word to use for what it is she does, was even better than the beer. She had an ability to make us feel at hone but at the same time gave us plenty of space and did not neglect the other patrons. Clearly the mark of someone really good at what she did. The variety of beers and ales they have is great. Their "menu" board has all the important info, well stocked gift/swag shop. Great selection of to go packaging and fair prices from a consumers viewpoint. Seriously a must stop place if you're in Missoula and enjoy indie beer! read more

Big Sky Brewing is brewery #192 for me! I made a drive over from Idaho that should have been 3 hours but being adventurous, or foolish, I managed to turn it into a 6 hour trip. Don't ask... Anyway, in Missoula on business and I had never been to BSB before. BSB is in a big building with a very airy feel to it. It has a nice concrete bar with plenty of seating around as well as seating on a mezzanine level above the bar. Huck It! The huckleberry blonde ale had a strong huckleberry aroma and flavor with some really nice lacing for a lighter beer. The Banana Slamma is a cask conditioned strawberry banana Hefeweizen. This one wasn't my favorite at first taste but started to grow on me. The cask conditioning is quite obvious as is the banana. Ok, no I don't love this beer. Just not to my taste but the flavors were interesting. Shake-A-Day DIPA was predictably hoppy both on the nose and tongue. It was very smoothly hoppy all the way to the end. Kind of predictably tasty all the way through. Ivan The Terrible is a bourbon barrel aged stout, which I always try when I see one. Wow. This one has all the flavor. And then some... Bold, roasty, a little sweet with plenty of bourbon flavor to it. I decided to grab a crowler of the huckleberry blonde ale to take home to SWPFTD since BSB had no reds or browns on tap. I was disappointed that BSB had no food after my 6 hour tour to get there but the beer and location were worthwhile. It may not be Montana's oldest craft brewery, but it is the largest (according to a bar server -- not fact checked), and arguably the best known. Moose Drool fans, this is the source of your preferred beverage. I am glad that I stopped in as I passed through Missoula recently. I sampled a couple of brews, bought two pints, and enjoyed my interactions with the great servers. At this point, food is provided through a food truck on the property, run by a hard working and talented young man (the day I was there, anyway). If I had been staying in Missoula, I would have undoubtedly decided to spend a couple more hours here at this very enjoyable brewpub. Highly recommend it. When I went to collect my beer, they were out but said that the brewery would honor the free beer that came with the race, so we headed over! It was a big warehouse. I was a little disappointed that there was not food because after the marathon I was hungry. They have the famous moose drool but I still went for the ipa. It was good. read more

We drove 9 hours just to get to this place. My husband loves the moose rule and keeps it at our home bar on tap. We asked about doing a tour, but the most likely drunk manager told us they don't do tours, we get that but a little disappointed. I had, Todd's specialty from the crock which was OK and my husband of course had the mule which was great. Bartender that helped us the most was named Rayland and she was super sweet and attentive. She told us all about how we could order some food from another restaurant and have it delivered. She even gave us a list of restaurants that would deliver, which was really helpful and nice. Unfortunately the big sky brewing doesn't have any food. The place is very clean even the bathrooms. It was a little disconcerting that they allowed a child to be sitting at the bar and even included her in the multiple shots from the waitress staff, including the manager who appeared to have already had too much. The little girl was doing shots of water, of course. I guess in Montana this is allowed. read more

We stopped in at Big Sky because we had some time to kill before our flight. The facility was spotless and welcoming. We had a seat at the bar and had a warm greeting from the staff. We enjoyed a flight and good beer and hard cider. It was nice to sit and not get hurried out the door as we watched some sports on the big tv. They've got a great gift shop as well and some cool outdoor spots to sit when the weather is good. The Moses drool is a staple good brown beer but we also tried a few others that were excellent. It's okay it's kind of a smoky brown ale. The other beers just tasted off. They were too bitter or too sour or had a strange aftertaste. I've been drinking Big Sky brews for a long time now and since I was passing through Missoula I had to stop in for a couple pints. The brewery was big and spacious. Super clean. There were chairs spread out all over the parking area to chill at. For some reason I thought they'd have more brews on tap but it was pretty much their normal staples plus a cask of Moose Drool. The beers were good and I liked the place but I felt the bartenders seemed in a bad mood which kinda sucked. O well I've been but I wouldn't go out of my way to return. I'll just enjoy their brews from bar taps and six packs. read more

Good selection of beers- came here the day before a show and the servers were AWESOME. No ciders or anything else on tap but that's a-ok - it's a brewery after all!! One gal heard me whining about my truck being broken down and made phone calls to try to help- what a great group of folks working here! The day of the show was a little crazy with waiting in line in the venue for food and drinks but acknowledged that the is kind of a separate entity. My wife and I blew in here on a Monday evening in April, the day after Easter, having never visited the brewery. The sweet young lady who took care of us was polite, attentive and engaging. She helped us sample some great brew near closing time, packaged up some awesome merchandise (including an awesome Moose Drool sign completed with bona fide bullet holes which I plan to proudly display at my outdoor backyard bar back in California.) This is very much a working production brewery, and, when you drive up, the overwhelming impression is one of the immensity of the facility. You know there's a lot going on. When you walk in, the tasting rooms feels far more like a gift shop than a bar. You can schedule a tour in advance, but if you just show up, you can at least peek through the windows in the tasting room as well as upstairs. Downstairs you can see the fermenters; upstairs, the bottling line, barrels, and bright tanks. The merch is impressive--in addition to the usual t-shirts, sweatshirts, and bottle openers, you get the coozies, the multitudes of glassware, coffee mugs AND Big-Sky-labelled coffee beans. Well, actually, it's Hunter Bay coffee, and you can also get bags of it ground. But you get the idea--TONS of different Big Sky schwag. The tastes are free. 4 ounces of complimentary goodness. They will sell you growlers, growler fills, and I believe bottles to go. They have four faucets going on a given day. It's a nice operation for a bustling regional brewery, though it's definitely not a bar--just a tasting room. read more

I enjoyed the tasting room experience at Big Sky. When I was in Missoula I stopped here and at Bayern. Both tasting rooms had "regulars" stopping in for their daily beer, but the staff at Big Sky was much friendlier. I enjoy a craft beer so it was cool to sample some beer and check out the production area from an upstairs window into the warehouse. No tours, but a chance to sample. I was not crazy about the beer, but the staff was helpful in suggesting beers. The location near the airport is nice for a visit heading in or out of Missoula. read more

If you mention Big Sky Brewing to most hip Missoulians, they will likely turn up their nose. For some reason, it is cool to not like Big Sky Brewing. Luckily for me, I am not a local, and am therefore allowed to partake in as much free Big Sky beer as I like. Free beer? Yes, Big Sky gives out four 4-oz samplers/person a day! While their most well known beer, Moose Drool, is pretty good, it is their more unique beers that they only have at the tasting room that are the best. They do strong beers well, and the delicious wheat wine (11%) I recently had on tap is a testament to that. They will only allow one sampler above 9% per person, so choose wisely. Sure, there are better breweries in Missoula, but none of them are giving away FREE BEER. The tasting room is the perfect stop on the way to/from the airport. They also have some pretty sweet merch, if you are in need of a souvenir to take home with you. read more

Love this place. We came to town to go to the Presidents rally but so many people we couldn't get in...so we went to Big Sky. The beer was good, the brewery very nice and they let us watch the rally! Perfect setting to join friends or just pop in for a beer. read more

This review is pertaining to this as a concert venue. There is no consistency with what you are allowed to bring into the concert. Regardless of what is posted on the website, it changes from week to week. They are happy to sell you beer or a plastic cup to fill with tap water for the same price on the weeks they decide you are not allowed to bring in bottled water. There are no permanent toilet or hand washing facilities, and the "port-a-potties" get rank pretty quickly. Once the music starts, it is played at a level low enough that you can still hear conversation. People wander aimlessly around, with no semblance of order during the performances. The tickets are overpriced for festival seating, where you must bring your own chair at such a poorly run venue. It's a pity that this is one of the only Western Montana venues that draws major musical acts. read more
