Parking was pretty full at 2 pm on a Tuesday, can't imagine after work hours. I was told to arrive 15 minutes early for my x-ray, over the phone they said it would be a 25-minute visit total. A front desk woman came to my chair in the waiting room to finish my check in which was very nice! It seemed that people who got there way after me were seen before me but it could be because of what they were being seen for, so it is what it is. I was seen 25 minutes after my arrival. I quickly changed and waited for my turn for the x ray. It was another 20 minutes total until I was seen for the x-ray... I was sweating because now I would be late for another 3pm appointment. The x ray itself went pretty fast and smoothly. All team members I encountered were very kind, I just got flustered with the extra wait times. I do not recommend SMIL Imaging Center in Gilbert, Arizona. I walked in with a STAT X-ray order following surgery and was in significant pain. The front desk employee, Amber, told me they did not have my order. I contacted my doctor's office, and they said they could resend it immediately. Amber then stated it could take up to a week for a STAT order to appear in their system, which was very concerning. My doctor's office also asked whether they could provide a verbal order, but Amber said no and gave them a phone number to call instead. She then informed me that they do not accept walk-ins. What was most disappointing was not the administrative issue itself, but the complete lack of effort to help. At no point did Amber offer alternatives, suggest another location that could accommodate a STAT X-ray, or ask a supervisor if there was anything that could be done. As a patient who had just undergone surgery and was following a physician's urgent order, I expected at least some level of concern or problem-solving. I remained polite throughout the interaction, but I left feeling that my situation simply did not matter. Customer service in healthcare should include compassion, communication, and a willingness to help patients find solutions when obstacles arise. I ultimately decided to go to Banner, where I have always been treated with kindness and professionalism. Based on this experience, I would not return to this imaging center and cannot recommend it to others. read more

I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction regarding a recent experience with your scheduling and front desk staff. I had an ultrasound appointment scheduled for November 6th, which I waited nearly two weeks for. I followed all pre-appointment instructions, including fasting, and arrived on time. Upon arrival, I was informed that my appointment had been cancelled--without any prior notice. I showed the receptionist my confirmation email, yet the appointment was not honored. I was told I would need to reschedule, with the next available slot being 2-3 weeks out. Given the urgency of my situation, I could not afford to wait that long. Scam artists, especially the billing department ( I may say the FINANCIAL SCAM GENIUS!). Please be aware about your payments! Do not pay until you get EOB from your insurance despite to they push you to pay immediately prior a test. They provide the wrong info from your insurance company (instead $25 copay - $500 deductible plus 20% ! ). They are claiming it like "upscale ultrasound"or "very special procedure like MRI". Call your insurance immediately to clarify payment. They already had payment from insurance with adjustments prior test but trying to overcharge you as much as possible! The billing department will lie you with poker face that the patient portion to pay it is exactly what your insurance gave them! I see this as financial abuse the older person. The patient experience representative or compliance department does not answered at all, and I sure it does not exist. The AI usually generate nice apologies snd ask you to call with your complain on SMIL line to talk with patient experience representative (but such option foes not present in their menu!) read more

The staff that does the actual work is just fine. Its their front reception and billing that are absolutely horrible.

First off the staff is super nice and friendly. The techs are extremely professional, the front reception staff could use some pointers on being professionals. My only complaint is when im in a doctors office type of setting, I honestly do not want to hear music with profanities and music talking about being sexual in extreme detail. There were kids and elderly people in this office and when the staff realized what was playing they laughed and changed the music, but did apologize to any of the parents or anyone else. read more

I had a set of seizures the night before and Sheldon helped me with my paperwork and had a lot of patience. Well, the office staff is played and professional. The processes that they have are not suited with the customer experience in mind. You often have to repeat your information several times while checking in. At times you need to provide the same information whether it's ID or insurance card several times. The portal SMIL uses isn't fully taken advantage of much of your information you need to get by calling in. You often have to follow up. One of the processes is you need to schedule an appointment before you know it's approved which delayed my MRI by over a week waiting on approval, which was never requested due to not scheduling an appointment to begin with. Again appreciate the processes.SMIL has deployed It's obvious those processes are for their best interest, and not the customer at all. read more

SMIL is definitely not a "fun" business to have to go to, but it's an important one... I've been to this location several times for MRIs and even an MRI guided biopsy. I am grateful for the staff here who are always professional and friendly... they help put their patients at ease when their services can understandably cause a lot of mixed emotions, anxiety, etc... They are operating with proper COVID-19 precautions in place and I felt safe while visiting during the pandemic. I also appreciate the weeknight hours... I was recently there for an 8:30pm MRI, which actually worked out quite well. Hopefully I will not be back for awhile, but if/when I do have to return, I will not hesitate to go to this location. read more

I just want to say thank-you so much to this company and the girl who heard me trying not to cry on the phone this morning. My daughter had a lump on her neck and we came in 6pm to get an ultrasound. I was so worried and called the next morning at 10 am - the Dr. had reviewed it and the nice lady who answered the phone emailed my daughter's pediatrician already and then since I called and signed off on it prior she emailed it directly to me. Scheduling an exam is increasingly more difficult, if not impossible. I tried multiple times, every day last week, and again this week, and leave my number for a call back, due to 20-30 minute wait time, but I never get a call back. I don't know if they are just under staffed, or what the issue is, but if I had any other option I'd choose it. Very disappointing. read more

This company has a shell company called Sonoran Radiology that is just to bill paitents as out of network when they perform work at hospitals. When you do research with insurance company, they will tell you that the provider is in network, but that is not correct as the bill jith the shell company. Worst of the worst. The shell company is just designed to get around the law called no surprise billing. read more

Everyone at SMIL was very nice and professional! The staff deserves a 5 and I recommend them. The billing department is very disorganized and because of them I gave SMIL a 3. They charged a small amount before leaving then billed insurance. Insurance company paid their amount and the remaining came from my account. Then I received a bill for the full amount about a month later, So I mailed a copy of my EOB showing that all has been paid. Now I receive a collections notice on the same amount that was paid in August and all of this after I have already sent a copy of the documentation showing it has been paid. On top of this, the amount I originally paid at the office is now an overpayment. The billing department needs to get organized!! read more

I am beyond angry and feel betrayed. I had a ct scan 12/8 and got a call the very next day to schedule an MRI. I did just that, then SMIL called days after to say they needed to change appt as it was a 'different' kind of an MRI...so my new appt is 12/29. (which is tough finding any location before the end of the year). THEN TODAY I get another call from SMIL, at 4:00 pm, saying they cannot do the test at Thompson Peak on the 29th as they 'do not have the kind of specialized machine to do this kind of MRI' and that they need to find another place and appt time.... now it is 12/22....and they cannot find a location until 1/3! Will they pick up my deductible since this was their mistake? When I asked that, the girl said I can do a payment plan next year. Sounds like a scam to me to get me to pay for my deductible. So I'll call my doctor tomorrow to see if she can call another imaging company. A person could die ..... SO frustratEd and disappointed at SMIL. read more

I was told I was covered by insurance, no problem, but then got a call that it was a very large bill. I canceled and then another provider was able to instantly run my insurance while I was on the phone and I saved over half. Not a billing issue, its a scam. The last time I was referred to your shady business a second MRI, that my doctor did not order, was added and I was lucky to catch that and decline. So two very shady issues over the course of several years. And now I KNOW you engage in scam practices as you tried to gaslight about "billing issues" in your reply to my review. I am a long time patient at SMIL. Full disclosure: I am a retired hospital administrator. I was also married to a Radiologist (who did not work with SMIL) for almost 30 years. So I'm pretty discerning (read: picky) about medical care in general and imaging studies in particular At SMIL, I am always treated with competence and kindness. They now have a patient portal that enables me to see the results of my exams as soon as they are posted. I love this! It gives me the control I need to manage my healthcare. I visited this lab because it's near my home. But better than that I went SDI because they are fast, friendly, efficient, and responsive. There is barely any wait time if you have a scheduled appointment. I visited this office for a routine yearly testing. After your exam expectations are set, results can even be emailed to you, and your Dr. is also informed of your test results the same time that you are. The waiting area and rooms are clean, you are treated with respect during all aspects of your visit. I have found my go to place for all my imaging needs. My husband's cardiologist referred us to SMIL. We have been calling every business day since April 8 to schedule the appointment. We are out on hold by their automated system and told that the wait time is 25-30 minutes. Then another recording comes on to take our phone number to set up a call back. That never happens either. We've called the referring doctor to let him know. This company does all sorts of imaging. I would find a place that actually answers their phones. read more

Summary: I waited two days for results on a brain MRI that should have been to my doctor within the hour. They sent my results to a random doctor's office (not the one on my referral form) and they were SO RUDE!!!! Came here for an MRI... called my doctors office two days later and they said they hadn't received the results... proceeded to call SMIL and they had actually sent the results within an hour of my MRI (51 hours prior to me calling)..... next question: to who? The operator (Brittany) had the RUDEST attitude, honestly felt like I was talking to a 13 year old hormonal girl... WOW! I then had to call my doctors office, wait on hold and get the fax number then wait on hold again for SMIL... because apparently they can't read the fax number (correct) on the referral form. So not only did they send my results (medical records) to who knows where-they told me a random address- (hmm... HIPAA anyone?!) I also got attitude from the girl answering the phone.... wow! So unacceptable and disgusting. I will say my MRI tech was really great.... but it doesn't make up for the huge mistake they made with my results and how rude Brittany was when I simply asked where my results were sent because my doctor had not received them. read more

I had a renal scan at their Mountain View location in Scottsdale. The entire visit went very smoothly. The managed the COVID-19 social distancing well. My appointment started a bit early. Jim and Ken were the clinicians who took care of me. They clearly explained the process, answered all my questions and generally made what could be an uneasy experience actually fun. They picked up on my sense of humor and it was sarcastic jokes from then on. While I don't want to have this procedure again, I'd definitely go back to SMIL if needed - for this or any other imaging. read more

This has been, bar none, the best experience I have ever had with any imaging or biopsy service. From the very first call, the employees were friendly, caring and they actually listened. Helen, who scheduled my appointment, was patient and helped me choose the best location for me (Highland location) and she didn't rush me off the phone as is common these days. She answered questions and was pleasant for the entire conversation. I received a call the very next day from a nurse that took my medical history and explained to me exactly what to expect from the procedure. I was quite nervous and appreciated the kindness and reassurance. The day of my procedure was smooth and right from my arrival, everyone was kind and went out of their way to make me comfortable. Once I was in the room, the sonogram technician offered and brought me a warmed blanket, as it was chilly in the room. She was amazing at putting my rattled nerves at ease and explaining every single part of the process. When the doctor arrived, he was efficient and friendly and we were done in less than 15 minutes. I would return to this facility for any needed imaging or future biopsies. It was truly a rarity to experience such kindness and compassion from a staff! Kudos to all of you! read more

Canceled my appointment the day before my MRI because they had no one working at MRI location to give me my required sedation. Valerie, same lady who scheduled me called to cancel. I asked why did you even schedule me in first place? Dead silence. I am now 21 minutes and 50, 51, 52 seconds into a hold because Valerie says she is trying to re-schedule me. Terrible experience, not only do they bill incorrectly they wait a whole year to send you a bill. When asked about what was happening they stated I needed to talk to my insurance. My insurance said they submitted the wrong code therefore they processed it how they did. After the whole ordeal, they send me a "new" bill after my insurance fights them for the correct code, the bill gets paid and they still send me to collections. I call them to see what happened, well their "system" didnt add 2 additional charges once my insurance asked them to reprocess. So I was sent to collections on their error, and they still expect payment for their error, which happened twice!! WORST COMPANY EVER! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, UNLESS YOU PLAN ON SPENDING HOURS ON THE PHONE TO GET THE CORRECT BILLING AMOUNT!! Well, I am that stranger....lets see what happens: ~The Good~ In a clean, convenient location, this place offers a great one-stop option for all medical imaging needs. The staff were attentive and immediately helped me when I came in for a general check on my side. Once again, good service all around, no issues wit that. ~The Bad~ SO... I am at work yesterday and my fiance calls me. Bill in mail. Its not from SMI. It's from a collector. They are "demanding payment" of $48.79. Thats right....SMI sent me to collections for not even $50 bucks, and to top it off, I was never made aware of the balance. It's been over 3 months since the procedure was done. At the time, I provided my address, phone number and insurance carrier on that not-so little patient card they had me fill out for 30 minutes. WHY...WHY would you collect my phone number and contact info if you are not going to call me to alert me to a billing issue? Even more of concern is why you wouldn't mail or contact me before SENDING ME TO COLLECTIONS!? I pay my bills...and now I get a collections in the mail for less than a carton of smokes? ~The Downlow~ Customer Service...This boils down to having good customer service. As a customer service rep myself, I know personally that if I had a client whose account went not only delinquent, but into collections, and I never bothered to advise them....I'd be in line at a local job bank. The ridiculous notion that this is the case...is just unfathomable to me. I am not sure what the original balance was, or how it even occured. Aetna never advised me an amount was over-due...and certainly I wasn't sent anything either. Obviously this will baloon if not paid. I will pay it, but not before reaming the office manager when I get the chance to. It is this office's fault on not advising me of the balance due...and if they say "oh XYZ in accounting should have followed up with you....blah blah blah", I will probably lose all my hair as I keep myself from blowing up like Pompei. They get 2 stars for their nice office and relatively good reps working with patients....but thats me being nice.. Adios SMI, see if I use you again. All for a measily $48.79 that you could have advised me on...But nope... Not going back, and I suggest you do not either. read more
