We recently did a sailboat excursion in Destin and overall felt the experience did not match the cost. We were hoping for a true sailing experience, but the boat primarily used the motor and we were not warned ahead of time that weather conditions would likely prevent sailing. That was disappointing since it was a main reason we booked. We also chose to do the snorkel stop, but there was very little to see--no shells or marine life--and there wasn't much guidance or help provided for snorkeling. It felt more like being dropped off than a guided experience. The crew was polite, but overall the experience felt underwhelming for the price, especially with the strong expectation of a 20% tip. Captain Pam and Maddison were so wonder on our excursion. My children 10 and 8 years old loved riding on the catamaran especially on the nets hanging above the water. We all loved seeing so many dolphins, sharks, sting rays, hermit crabs, puffer fish and many more fish! They are very informative and take pics of the whole family (love when I'm actually in them)! We had the best time and my children asked if we could do it another day! I highly recommend Smile-n-Wave and we will definitely do another excursion next time we're in Destin Florida or surrounding areas! This was the highlight of our trip! Captain Pam is absolutely amazing! If you're considering booking, here's your sign. We took a three hour private sunset cruise. Captain Pam was very communicative throughout the entire booking/getting there portion and was so incredibly friendly and welcoming upon arrival. Honestly, she's just a really good person and sure a pleasure to be around! We told her we really wanted to see dolphins and she made sure we found them! Then at sunset she took photos of our family with an amazing backdrop. And her boat is super comfortable and well maintained. We could not have asked for a nicer evening and better company. We had such a great time we were set to sail with her again last week upon our return to the area; however, I realized a few days prior they were calling for extreme weather that day. I reached out to Pam and she replied immediately. Unfortunately, her only other availability didn't work for our schedule. Not only did she refund my payment within a day, she recommended that I reach out to another Captain in the area and even provided me with his contact information. Sailing with Captain Pam is the highlight of our summer vacations! Last year we did the 3 hour snorkel and sail. We loved it so much we booked a 5 hour snorkel and sail this year and it did not disappoint. Captain Pam is relaxed, knowledgeable, focused on safety, fun and providing a wonderful experience. We love stopping at crab island to snorkel and look for hermit crabs. We undoubtedly find the best shells of our vacation at crab island... just need to be sure there are no hermit crabs in them if you decide to bring the shells home (we did find a live hermit crab in our shell bag when we got back home which surprised us all!). We always see dolphins while sailing and this year one dolphin got very close to us while we were snorkeling... my son thought that was so cool! This summer we had enough time to sail out in the ocean for a while and that was so relaxing. My husband and I enjoyed a drink up front while Captain Pam gave the kids fake tattoos in the back. My daughter enjoyed getting "jobs" while we were on the boat: drying off the walking areas, helping to lift the sails, etc. My son has really taken to sailing; he loves to learn from Captain Pam and spent his entire time on the boat in the captain's chair. By the end of the trip he was navigating the harbor all by himself. It's so nice to see his confidence building and his interest in something beyond basketball! We can't wait to get him into sailing lessons back home. We do drive from Seagrove Beach which is about an hour each way and it's totally worth it. I highly recommend going out on a sail with Captain Pam if you are in town. We are already planning our trip for next year! read more

It was the most beautiful evening of my life! Thank you Pam!! I had never seen dolphins up this close, Pam exactly knew her way around the ocean and where the best spots were- be it to capture the glimpses of dolphins or the violet hues of the setting sun. Not only was she smoothly sailing but was also being our photographer (she had amazing suggestions for poses and for capturing romantic sunset pictures)! My boyfriend (fiancé now) proposed to me while we were on catamaran. Pam clicked some amazing candid shots for us and was so enthusiastic to make the evening perfect! The most surprising part was when everyone from another boat wished us 'congratulations'!!!! (Pam used her magic I guess :)). How do I describe a trip that never happened??? Not many "Smiles and Waves" when our Captain Pam greeted us at he dock for our much anticipated 3 hour boat tour With our two young girls. I blame myself for booking the trip with Smile n Wave. In the summer of 2019 a friend booked a ride on the same boat for my close friends from high school (we are now in our 50's). Pam, the Captain was personable and we had an amazing time. It was the best memory I had of the trip to Destin that summer. It did not seem to matter much at the time that the boat we chartered Last year had no main captain explained that the sail was delayed in shipping. We were fine to use the trolling motor for our 3 hour excursion. If only I had thought more about the absence of that sail.... When my family came to the docks at 12:00 yesterday, having moved up our sail time at the captain's request, we were excited for our adventure. We watched as Captain Pam thanked the guests of the earlier time slot, checked their iPhone pictures, and exchanged pleasantries with the departing clients. When Pam saw that we were ready to board she gave an excuse of hitting the dock hard On her way in and damaging the motor of the boat. I thought this strange given her calm and light-hearted manner displayed to the departing quests. This could certainly be interpreted as a "he said/ she said" excuse for the cancellation at the dock But please consider this before booking with Smile n Wave... On my first chartered trip the main sail was missing and on my second trip, the motor failed. It should be noted that Captain Pam made the comment "I wish I could get through one season without having something break down." as she made a feeble apology for the cancellation of our Trip. Our payment was returned without a written apology for the inconvenience. read more

There were 3 adults in our party. We enjoyed the 2 hour sunset cruise with Cpt Pam. It was the best event on our vacation; it was the best sailing cruise we have ever had. The 31 foot catamaran was perfect for us and safe but also maneuverable for us to get close to the dolphins which she knows by name. Cpt Pam was the best. She gave us her undivided attention; a valuable explanation of Destin's harbor and marine history. She was very focused on taking care of our preferences. The sunset on the cruise was beautiful.
