Strange chive dumplings - strange texture with no flavor
    Linda B.

WORST Thai food I have EVER had!! I ordered the spring rolls, chive dumplings, Tom yum soup, and garlic stir fried with pork. I have never had such incredibly TASTELESS Thai food in my entire life!! All of the food "looked" good but was entirely tasteless. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone! Do not waste your money here!

Great little Thai restaurant. The food is always presently nicely. The restaurant is very clean. The pad see wee was really good. The krapow could be a bit spicier but still quite good.

2 Steamed Dumplings are really delicious and home made. A little more chicken than sea food

Good Thai food close to home. Ordered through the Yelp app, which was very straightforward to navigate. Delivery came in about 30 mins. The gentleman who delivered our food was friendly and quick. Their menu has a nice variety of Thai eats. Standout dishes from what we ordered would have to be Pad Thai and Pineapple Fried Rice. I wouldn't say this is the best Thai food I've ever tasted, but it was quite good. We're grateful that it's close to home and that they had friendly and quick delivery. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but if you're in the area and in the mood for some Thai food, this is a great option.

Love the location of this place. Priced reasonably & the flavor and portion is delicious! I also got the phrik king, it was ok. Honestly the best one I've had was in Hawaii, which had a bunch of ginger & string beans to it. Maybe that's what's missing, I don't know. But, overall the pad Thai is delicious & papaya salad!

**Take-out review** It's the neighborhood Thai place.... and I wish it could have been better. The staff is friendly, the place is homely, and the food was ready when I picked up... Drunken Noodle- I've had a lot of drunken noodle in many Thai restaurants around. This one is so-so. Not a lot of flavor, the noodles were really soupy looking. Red Curry - it was decent, but it was overly sweet. Tom Yum Veggie- this one was delicious. I got it spicy so you can see in the picture that it's red

I ordered drunken noodles with chunk beef but it had stainless still scrubbing. Also noodle was overcooked. I was terrible dinner. DISGUSTING!!!

Friendly service and a great place to have lunch. We came in around noonish and was seated right away with water. We got their thai tea and it's a must get, it was good! We got 3 different lunch specials, it includes the main entree with their house soup and a spring roll. The soup was ok, it has cilantro, carrots, and some kind of lettuce. The spring roll was decent, it came out hot and crispy. We ordered the papaya salad and that tasted pretty awesome, nicely mixed with tangy sauce which I think is fish sauce, with shredded carrots, and papaya. Their pad thai tasted awesome, it wasn't too dried like most places, we also ordered the drunken noodles and that was a disappointment. I ordered with it with beef thinking it will be the sliced beef like most other places but this place makes served with ground beef. Very different. It was not spicy at all, the noodles looked and tasted so bland and dried. Typically your drunken noodles are soaked with oily sauce, but this one dish is dried. We also ordered the pineapple chicken fried rice and that was interesting. The flavor of the fried rice is curry flavored, nothing special about this dish. Overall, everything tasted great except for my drunken noodles.

Papaya salad. Fresh and tasty, a little on the spicy side though.

There was a burger and chips option but when I requested it they told me that just don't have it. No reason why. They don't have plastic cups for kids either. We ended up getting the beef noodle soup, a noodle dish with beef and a few lamb and chicken kebabs. The beef noodle soup had no flavor / it tasted like water with chillies. The beef noodles were over cooked and needed salt or something. The lamb kebabs were chewy and the chicken kebabs were way too spicy. The wait time for the food took 30 minutes and while I am pretty patient - it was not worth the wait. The servers were non- existent and I had to constantly ask for napkins, water, take away boxes. The only time I saw them Was when I called them to order and then called to pay. They should not work in the service industry as a smile goes along way but clearly they hate customers. There was just no attempt to be nice at all and they were not very accommodating with questions. Let me not even get started on the bathroom. It was dirty and there was no loo paper. Give this place a skip. It's just not worth the time and the money you will spend there.

The portions are incredibly generous, and every dish we tried was delicious. The drunken noodles were packed with flavor, the fried rice was perfectly cooked, the Tso's chicken was excellent, and the steamed fish was fresh and beautifully prepared. The highlight of the meal was the spectacular tableside Flambé dessert--it was both delicious and a fun experience. The service was exceptional. Our waitress was incredibly sweet, attentive, and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the meal. The owners were also warm and welcoming, adding to the wonderful dining experience. But what we did get was pretty darn good (if a bit pricey)! The style is much more authentic, so if you're looking for something like Hunan Cafe (Greenbriar), or that NOVA institution China King, this is different. Is it better? For the most part, yes. (But I still crave that Americanized sweet, spicy, glazey brown sauce that comes in slight variations in so many dishes). I had the hot and sour soup, Szechuan spicy fried eggplant sticks, Taiwanese rice noodles with fried tofu, and the Chengdu twice cooked pork. Everything was excellent, except....the hot and sour soup. Honestly, Hunan Cafe and China King beat the pants off this place's hot and sour soup. Here, it was a bit too sweet. It had some red chilies in it, but I could not detect much white pepper. And it's a vegetarian version, so no small bits of chicken or pork. I'd skip this the next time I order from here. But the other dishes... amazing! The noodles were light-tasting but still delicious. The eggplant was garnished with cilantro, garlic, salt, and red chili sauce. The twice cooked pork was sauteed with sliced leeks and the same red chili sauce. I think that's the fresh, zingy, spice flavor profile I like that can't be found at Americanized Chinese restaurants. Sure, China King has its place and I'll still go back there when I'm close (RIP China King Fair Lakes and Herndon). And admittedly, I go to that awful Panda chain occasionally because I never learn. The unfortunate thing is, I'll more likely go to these places than Cheng's because of the price. The pork dish was $21 and the noodle dish was $19. My total bill came to $60 before tax and tip. If I need to stuff my face with a Chinese umami bomb fast, I'm probably going to the other places for $15-30. I do want to try the rest of the menu at Cheng's, but it's going to be a drawn-out process for the sake of my wallet. I'd be remiss if I didn't include a comment from my dining partner. She compared the quality and taste of the food at Cheng's to Peter Chang's (either Peter Chang's-Herndon, or Mama Chang Fairfax). A high compliment. But she said the value is better at those places' AYCE options than what we got at Cheng's, and I agree. If you've been to none of these places, you have to try them all at least once.

You place your order on the electronic kiosk inside the front door. You also pick up your order from the counter and bus your table as well. Water is self-service too, which is good. I ordered the B5. Sizzling Stone Pot Bibimap. It was pretty good and I especially liked the banchan that came with it. But as I mentioned, the portion size was small (and the amount of beef skimpy), though you do have the option of adding extra ingredients for a price. Some pieces of the meat did have an off-flavor. There was a cup of broth (not miso) that came with the bibimap but it had no flavor. It was like drinking warm water. JP ordered the C6. Korean Style Pork Belly. The pork belly was very good and this dish also came with banchan and broth. We also ordered the Spicy Baby Octopus. It wasn't super spicy but it had a very delicious sauce. But probably more onion than octopus. We also ordered the Chicken Bulgogi, which was excellent. However, these two dishes only came with rice, and not banchan. I doubt we will come back because of the price vs. quantity ratio.
