Food here is serviceable for a quick bite at a Chinese restaurant. Is it something over the top that I will crave for and come back to? Not quite. But it was nice to have freshly cooked General Tsos served when ordered at lunch time as opposed the stuff that's just sitting out on a burner waiting to be served We decided to eat in the restaurant and the lady was kind, took our orders quickly and the food came out in reasonable time. Ambiance of the place is close to rinky dink restaurant, but still clean. Mostly people order take out here. Not SO much seating inside so large parties won't fit too easily. I accidentally clicked on Chopsticks instead of my go-to of Chopsticks House for delivery and I decided to give them a try since they carried a larger variety of Asian dishes. I ordered: Shrimp Toast Thai Lemongrass Chicken Sautéed Broccoli The shrimp toast had decent flavor but was soggy. And the main thing I look forward to w shrimp toast is it being crispy! So, that was a bummer. As I was eating the Thai Lemongrass Chicken I totally forgot that's what it was supposed to be because it truly tasted just like oily tasteless regular chicken and mixed veggies. EPIC FAIL! The Sautéed Broccoli was also swimming in oil but it was cooked appropriately because it still had a nice snap to it. This place honestly deserves 3 stars, as the food - Kung Pao tofu and Egg Drop soup were decent - but because alternative Chinese restaurants in the area aren't any better, on a curve this place gets 4 stars. Also, a special mention to their manger, Donna, who's also a big reason for the higher star; I saw her kindness firsthand helping an elderly customer to her car and door with the food in hand and a warm smile. Kind and genuine gestures like that deserve credit. Suggestions for improvement: + The place needs to be revamped (paint and lights); it looks a bit dated and dark. + Consistent Customer Service: besides Donna, not all employees here are in sync nor friendly; some for example, the lady who was wearing a mask was unfriendly and standoffish. I suggest to teach the others Donna's ways. + Lastly, the food was okay, and could be more flavorful, and maybe even presented better. Yes compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area, it's not bad; however there is room for improvement. Also, having hot sauce and soy sauce at the table should be standard. This user to be out go to Chinese place but they've gone way downhill. We placed an order tonight and they usually deliver within 15 minutes. We waited 30 minutes, 45 minutes, then called. It was a very small left, just wonton soup and some dumplings since we're sick. We were assured it won't be here shortly. 15 minutes more then 20... called again, they argued with the delivery driver on the phone with us. He said he was around the corner. 15 minutes later we called and requested a refund. They said, oh well, sorry. Not sure what's happening here. read more

Strictly as it says, a 3 star review, and I think that is good as it is going to get for delivery Chinese in Herndon. Unfortunately that is saying a lot. I take takeout Chinese seriously. I am used to some real good takeout stuff at a pretty good price. Unfortunately the same could not be said for a lot of the restaurants in this area. Why? I do not know. Something just seems to lack. The wonton soup was okay. Except the wontons were pretty much falling apart as I was starting to eat them. The broth is good, but once you open the container the clock is ticking before you really have to start taking them down. At least you get some good crispy noodles with your order. The lo mein here was fresher. The pork strips are alright, but overall the big size makes up for the lack of meat. Maybe next time I will try a different protein, like shrimp. Otherwise this was decent. The Kung Pao chicken was much better here. It looked fresh in every way. The chicken was cooked thoroughly, and the vegetables had a nice crunch to them. I should have told them not to include water chestnuts with the dish (not a fan of them), but otherwise this was something that made up for my last experience. Well, we just tried Chopsticks and it was wonderful. Everything is so fresh and well made. The meat is very tender & the shrimp fresh, not mushy! The veggies were tender but not over cooked. We went with a few of our standards and were very happy with those selections. The shrimp spring rolls actually had a couple of shrimp in them, not all diced up so you really don't know if it was shrimp or not. There really were shrimp in each one. Their rice was wonderful. The food was just okay. I ordered a spring roll, sushi, Hunan shrimp and the Pu Pu platter. The spring roll was good. The Hunan shrimp wasn't authentic it contain celery and no onions. The sushi rolls were presented nicely, tasted good but to big and rice fell apart. The Pu Pu platter was horrible and a complete waste of money! read more

I've ordered takeout from Chopstix about 5x now. Like many of the previous reviews show, they are consistent and always friendly. Their portions are pretty large and I love the diversity of the menu. It's nice to be able to order Thai, Japanese and Chinese food all from one place and have it be GOOD! It's tricky to find decent Chinese (or Asian) take-out and chopstix doesn't disappoint. First time trying this place and my boyfriend and I ordered chicken skewers, seafood combo and fish filet. We were able to use the coupon for two free egg rolls. We had it delivered to our apartment 2 miles from the establishment. They told us 50 minutes but came way before that time. Not only did the driver came quickly but also came inside the Icon apartment. Most of the delivery places will text us and we had to meet them downstairs. This was so convenient. The seafood combo was the best. Shrimps and scallops were jumbo and fresh. I was surprised that the crab meats were real crab meat. Not the imitation kind. For that price, it's a bargain! The fish filet with veggies was ok. Fish meat was big. I've had fish with veggies elsewhere and other places give you small slices of fish. They did not. The only complaint or dissatisfaction is it's fried or breaded. Plus it was a bit salty, but flavorful. The chicken skewers was pretty good as well. Not too dry. Initially we thought it might be spicy since it looked so red. But it was mild and flavorful as well. Egg rolls were also good. The typical egg rolls. The best egg rolls I had was back in DC, a small carry out near Capital Hill but no longer there. Their egg rolls were burrito sized filled with fresh shrimps and roast pork with cabbage and celery. That was a meal in itself. But too bad these were not it. Overall, I'm very pleased and will order from them again. Service was quick and excellent. Food was great. They really need to redo their menu and remove anything that indicates the dish is hot and or spicey. These people either have no clue what hot is or have dumbed it too far down for the white folk. I've ordered both the Kung Pow Chicken and the Thai Red Curry Pork (Which was bland and tasteless) and was extremely disappointed. Their Crab Rangoon has very little creme cheese filling in them. I have a sneaking feeling they have the Asians working the front of the house and a bunch of white or Mexican cooks in the back. read more

My wife and I are (re)new to the Reston area and were looking for a good "Chinese" restaurant. We decided to order from Chopsticks the other night based on a recommendation from a friend. We were pretty pleasantly surprised. The ordering process was easy, the food was ready for pickup when promised, packaged neatly and the food was good! Wife got egg drop soup (she said was great) and shrimp pad thai. I got hot-n-sour soup and beef w/broccoli which both were good. My only complaint (minor) would be that I thought the brown sauce in the beef dish was not as flavorful as I've had before. Well...I finally got my husband to try Ethiopian food. I know --- now you're asking why I'm reviewing Chopsticks, since it's not Ethiopian. Talk about the best laid plans. We were all set to eat at Warka. Their website listed Sunday hours. We got there---and they are closed on Sunday! Okay...! Time for Plan B. Eat at A Taste of the World? Nope. Also closed on Sunday. On to Plan C --- aha! Chopsticks! And they were open! We got there around 5:30 on a Sunday evening. The place was empty except for 2 people waiting for their take out orders. A waitress seated us and gave us menus. As others pointed out, Chopsticks serves Chinese, Japanese (including sushi) and Thai foods. Since we were eating vegan today, we ordered off the vegetable menu. Each dish comes in 2 sizes. The waitress said that she thought the large size would be best to order. Fine---after all if there were leftovers, we could have them for lunch the next day. To drink, I had water while my husband had a Tsingtao beer. We started out with 2 small miso soups. The soup was decent with good flavor and came out hot. For our main courses, which we shared, we got Bean Curd Homestyle and Szechuan String Beans. The bean curd started out with some promise. On my first bite, I tasted garlic. It turned out that was the only time either of us tasted garlic in the dish. In addition to the bean curd, this dish had broccoli, carrots, red peppers, pea pods, water chestnuts and bamboo shoots. That said, the portions of each veggie were small. Bean curd was what dominated in this dish. While we both agreed that the dish could have had more flavor, we didn't hate it either. The Szechuan String Beans were good---very nicely stir fried so that they still had some crunch. My husband noticed that the longer they sat, the more the flavorings came out. This was supposed to be a spicy dish but in reality, it wasn't all that spicy. We've had this dish at MaMa Wok and have to say that MaMa Wok's version is far better. We can't complain about the cost. The entire meal cost $26.12 before the tip. While we weren't wowed by the food, we thought it all was fine but nothing to write home about. We agreed that we don't have any problem with going again sometime but at the same time, aren't in any rush to do so. read more

I have now been here a couple of times. This is one of 3 Chinese places near my office. I had not been here in a while and my co-worker wanted to order some Chinese food. I decided to order the Kung Pao Chicken combo again, just to verify my previous thoughts on the dish. The good thing this place has, is their lunch specials. They are super cheap. You really can't complain about that. I think the reason they have cheap prices is to compete with the China King next door. Our food was delivered faster than the original time they gave. Now here is what bothers me about this place. With a name like Chopsticks, you don't really know what to expect. You just know it'll be some sort of Asian food. That being the case, I don't mind if they serve different foods. Then you read their history and they say they are an authentic Chinese restaurant and they want to be the leading provider of Chinese food in this region. I'm cool with that, but an authentic Chinese restaurant does not serve sushi and Thai food. They would do everything to perfect their authentic Chinese dishes. I guess I'm just stubborn about this. Now on to the Kung Pao Chicken. The dish served here is an Americanized. True Sichuan Kung Pao Chicken is, chicken, peanuts, scallions, and chili peppers in a soy and vinegar base sauce. This dish has celery and water chestnuts, in a sweet sauce. Though I will say this if you take out the celery and water chestnuts, the dish good for an Americanized version. The star of this dish should be the numbing effect you get Sichuan peppercorn and the chicken. This dish I felt the celery and water chestnuts took that away. The hot and sour soup decent. It was not watered down and was not too thick. When I did eat in, the staff was friendly and attentive. The inside of the restaurant is clean. I'd go back again and try again. Though I will probably have to get take out. If the owners see they'll probably throw me out for ranting about Thai food and Americanized Kung Pao Chicken =) read more

We're going downhill! I've been back a few more times... this place has become the office go-to over the past year or more... but unfortunately, the quality has been going downhill in my opinion. The general Tsos chicken was just not good. The sauce was bad, like too sour. The Hunan pork I got most recently was okay, but forgettable. it was just a boring brown sauce that was strangely thick in some parts and not thick in others. Had no depth to it... Even my favorite go-to, the Thai Basil dish was very very greasy/oily and lacked it's usual delciousness last time I had it. :( The spring rolls with the lunch special are still pretty weak and not a selling point (in fact, a couple of my coworkers will usually give me theirs since they don't like em -- and I'm a human food disposal) I'm sorry to say it, but I've been venturing away from Chopsticks lately. Looking at the latest menu (compared to an old menu I had), it looks like they also bumped their price up a little bit -- hey, I can't blame them for that... inflation is here. All things considered. I will probably still order from here because my coworkers like the easy online ordering system... but when I fly solo for Chinese food, I have some other spots that I'm starting to prefer in this town... Needed Chinese carryout and decided to try a local place I hadn't tried before. Found it through google and found that they had Thai and other specialities different from just Chinese. Though I never received an email confirmation after placing the online order, I called and verified with the restaurant that they received it, the order was literally delivered within 20 minutes of ordering. Food was hot, and tasty and I'll definitely be ordering from this carryout/delivery in the future. Portions were large and tasty. The egg drop soup had corn in it, which is different and I wasn't sure I liked it initially, but it grows on you. Their shrimp spring roll was good and on point. The soup, good as I mentioned. I tried the Thai Seafood Fried Rice. Just the right amount of spice, though a little dry. I didn't add soy sauce to it which definitely would have made it more palatable, but nevertheless it was good and I enjoyed it. Portion was large enough for it to be two meals. I also tried a small shrimp and broccoli, as that's a pretty standard dish, but I wanted to see how theirs was. It was standard, lots of broccoli, but not as many shrimp as their should be to balance out the amount of broccoli in the dish. The sauce was good, though saltier than I would have liked. The delivery driver followed the instructions I left in order to get into my condo building and deliver the food right to my door. He earned an extra tip for doing so. I'm glad they have their own delivery drivers and that they don't use a third party service like Grubhub, as the third party drivers don't follow the instructions left in the order and make you come down to let them in and pick up the food. Personally I think its laziness. Regardless of that, keep up the good work and keep your delivery drivers in house. Its better that way. Highly recommend checking out this restaurant. Chopsticks is a pretty good Chinese spot. I really enjoy the convenience of their online ordering and delivery options. If you're cautious of how your food is prepared, online they have special instructions. For example, my roommate wanted her chicken well done, there was that option. For myself, I wanted them to use less salt -- there was that option online as well. I mean I know you can specify your order accordingly but it's just nice to see those options available. Anyways, the food was pretty good. I ordered General Tso's chicken. That was yummy of course. I also ordered a large egg drop soup. (Pls don't judge me and how much I can eat.) So, their egg drop soup has corn in it. It was interesting... I didn't love it but I didn't hate it. It was just different - just a heads up. Tried this spot shortly after moving to Reston. We started with Coconut Milk Chicken Soup, which is normally white, creamy, and filled with chicken and mushrooms. This variety was bright red with grease and mostly bulked by undercooked onions - very little chicken. I wound up leaving it uneaten after the first couple of wince-inducing bites. Alright, I thought, I guess they just do it differently here. Not great, but oh well. Then I tried my sushi - a Rainbow Roll, which is a mix of fish sashimi laid over small California rolls. Every bite tasted exactly the same--overwhelmingly of cucumber--because each roll was easily 80% cucumber. A tiny amount of crab, a tiny amount of rice, and the smallest slivers of fish I've ever seen served in any Chinese or Japanese format.
