Overall, great massages (I did have a disappointing prenatal massage a few years ago, but I've never had a bad experience with their standard massage). However, don't trust their online booking system! I booked an appointment and received a confirmation, then a few hours later got a call saying there were no appointments at my requested time. I asked what happened, since I got a confirmation, and the person I spoke with said that the website booking confirmations are automatic and don't reflect the actual availability of appointments. We went back and forth a bit and she really didn't seem to understand why I was disappointed. She insisted that they always call if there's a problem, and that's nice, but I wish that they would change the configuration so their website doesn't "confirm" appointments that aren't real. read more

There was a fair amount of noise from the road and the room I was in was right behind the front desk, so I could hear a lot of conversation from people coming and going.. which I initially thought would distract from my ability to relax and enjoy my massage, but the woman massaging me did such an incredible job it really didn't matter. I have been a massage therapist for nearly a decade, and as a result I have become very picky about about massage. I decided to try Smile Thai Health Spa on a whim while hanging out in Union Sq. I have always heard wonderful things about Thai massage, but had never experienced it so I was very excited. I walked in without an appointment and was greeted warmly by a woman behind the desk. The waiting area was warm and clean and decorated with hints of Thailand. I was given paperwork to fill out and then lead into a treatment room and asked to dress down to my level of comfort. My therapist, Kai, asked about my comfort and got to work. I did not know what to expect so, I settled in to see what happened next. Kai is tiny, but that in NO way was a reflection on her work. I have to be twice her weight and she effortlessly manipulated my limbs to achieve the most wonderful stretches. She used her body weight: knees, feet, elbows and hands and preformed a skillful ballet of massage over my back, legs and arms. I was blown away how precise she could be with her feet! Towards the end of the massage Kai had me in a seated position (with the sheet tied around me for modesty) and with a couple calculated moves she adjusted my spine. It was GLORIOUS. I have now had my 4th massage with Kai and will gladly shout her name at the top of a mountain. I am so grateful to have found her/Smile Thai Health spa, and I very clearly recommend you experience a massage there as well. I've never gotten a Thai massage before so I had no idea what to expect, but this was a good experience! Came in on a Friday night for a 60 minute couples massage appointment. We were a little late because the reserved parking spots behind the building were taken so we circled around til we found metered parking. We called ahead to give a head's up so it wasn't an issue but I would definitely account for more parking time if needed. We were brought to our room and were given a few minutes to strip down to our underwear (or whatever level of comfort) and given a sheet to cover ourselves. My masseuse then came back in and asked if there were areas I wanted to focus on and to let her know if how much pressure I preferred. There are bars on the ceiling for the masseuses to hold onto while they use their feet, which was a new experience for me. Regardless of whether she used her hands or feet, I really had to focus on breathing so not to feel overwhelmed, but eventually I did ask if she could be gentler, which worked a lot better for me. I had Luis for the therapist and he definitely provide the level of depth that I was looking for. It reminded me of the massage I had in Thailand. Strong, deep..and hurt (given how stiff and inflexible I have become!!)...but the hurt so good! The spa wasn't anything 5 stars high end but they did provide you all the comfort...some water and snacks while you wait..and a proper clean and serene room to make you feel comfortable during your massage. The staff wad kind and made you feel welcome. I've been wanting to go back there for another session but the place is a little out of my way (I don't have a car and the T doesnt quite get me close to there)...but I know i will be visiting this place again soon when the timing is right. Horrible experience , the masseuse was symptomatic coughing and sneezing the entire time , I inquired about it and was told it was "allergies". Also, I went in with a pulled back and requested work on my right side ( I go regularly for muscle work in Woburn ) they were on vacation. Hence the visit. The masseur did not know basic techniques to remove a basic knot. It was legit the weirdest massage. I've been here before with my fiancé, and we both loved our massages. I couldn't wait to come back here when I had a free weekend, but unfortunately, the service was not the same as I had remembered. The signature part of the massage that I was most looking forward to was when the masseuse walks on your back - this did not happen at all, which was a bit strange, but I did not mind so much since the massage itself was still pretty decent. At the end is where it gets a little weird.. as I'm checking out, I hand over $140 in cash. Initially, I had thought the massage was $120, so I was always meaning to leave a $20 tip. She lets me know it was $130, and asks me 'Was it not good?' I said, 'Yes, it was good!' The receptionist then proceeds to pull out a piece of paper with a handwritten note that says 'Buy me a Budlight' and how much 20% would equal i.e., 20%=$29. If you calculate it yourself, 20% of 130 is actually $26.. Anywho, besides the mathematical miscalculation, I then proceed to hand her another $20 and ask for $10 in change to stick with my original plan of leaving a $20 tip, which would have still been 15% tip for the massage. When I ask for my change, she again points to the paper and refuses to give me anything, basically just staring at me. At this point, I'm feeling extremely awkward since the masseuse has also walked up during this time. She did do a good job, so I end up letting it go and not pressing the matter further. Honestly, I am all for tipping for great service, and I know these ladies work hard. However, I do not appreciate being pressured to give more of a tip when I felt like the tip I was giving was sufficient (their website even states that 10%-20% is typical). It definitely felt very shady to me, and honestly, I probably won't be coming back anymore due to that strange interaction. It sucks because I really liked this place, but at the end of the day, making your customers uncomfortable and forced to do something is not going to make them come back. read more

Not only are they friendly and highly skilled in massage, but they truly care about your health. The masseuses always provide me with a hybrid massage on a heated bed which includes hot oil, hot stones, Thai massage and deep tissue massage. They play relaxing music and dim the lights during the massage. At the end of the massage, they provide a hot towel and hot tea. This is such a nice touch and makes the massage extra special. The best part about this place is they provide the most firm deep tissue massages I have ever experienced. This spa is amazing! I found this while I was randomly searching spas on Yelp. First off, the prices are very reasonable (aka cheaper) when compared to other spas in the area. There's even a $5-10 promo discount when you pay cash. My husband and I decided to go for the couples massage ($120 in cash for 60 mins) versus the individual 60 mins ($65 in cash). The couples room is very spacious, smells nice and dark. My masseuse didn't step on my back bc I'm nursing right now and nervous about the implications of her stepping on me, but she did everything else. She used her legs, feet, hands and arms with pressure to unknot me and I loved it. I was so sad when the 60 mins were up. Another thing I loved is that this spa gave us bottled water after the massage was done! Most spas have given me water in a small plastic cup afterwards. It was a small gesture but very appreciated.
