Big Mistake! Don't do it. It's too much to detail here, but rest assured I've reported them to the Better Business Bureau. My wife and I went to Smiles on Beach Boulevard in October 2024 for our annual dental cleaning. We made it clear what we were scheduling and told them again when we arrived. We moved to Florida not long ago and were in search of a new dentist. We read many dentist reviews (unfortunately, Google, not Yelp.) If I'd done a better job and noticed the Yelp ones before we had our cleaning, I would not have made this mistake. I'll save you the pain... 1 - Smiles on Beach Boulevard "requires" services for new patients-- (e.g. a very sophisticated 3-D imaging (not an Xray) of your teeth, as well as: "Delivery of microbial agents," "Hydroxyapatite," and "Scaling and root cleaning" and "Prediagnostic mucosal," which is likely not covered by your insurance.) 2 - During and after the appointment they will try to upsell you on additional "recommended" services. 3 - Record keeping is sloppy if I'm being nice. SHADY, if I'm being direct. They confused services, charges and details from my wife's treatment with my own. Despite my repeated calls, emails and voice mails, to clean up their data and rebill us accurately, they will not respond. Additionally, my insurance company repeatedly asked them for paperwork to complete the claim. Services took place in October 2024, and as of March 2025, Smiles on Beach Boulevard had STILL never provided the clinical narratives which insurance requested. (The narrative is the provider's justification as to why certain treatments are necessary.) Every time I conferenced my insurance provider and Smiles' billing department together, Smiles promises to my insurance those clinical narrative explanations but never did. 4 - Of note: We have done our annual dental cleaning pretty much every year since we've been married (even during Covid.) Various providers in several different states. This is an important point because, for some reason, Smiles was unable to complete either of our cleanings in one day. They cleaned only half of our mouth at the first appointment. Each of us had to schedule a separate appointment so they could clean the other half of our mouth. Read that again. Imagine leaving the dentist with only half your mouth "cleaned" and having to return a week later for the other half. Whoever heard of such a ridiculous thing? 5 - They will strongly insist you come back in 3 months, so they can "check up on you." (So they can charge you more.) 6 - Every dentist I've ever gone to flossed and polished our teeth when they were finished. Literally every one of them. You know, that squeaky 'million dollars feel' and smile you have for a month after your cleaning? You won't get that here. At least we didn't. All these years, our same insurance provider covered all those visits to our previous dentists, but for some reason, they do not cover some of the charges Smiles insists are "necessary." (That's weird!) Despite everything I've written above, they had the nerve to keep calling us to schedule our next cleaning. I simply loathe giving negative comments. I usually keep bad experiences to myself and only write about positive ones. When customer service or quality was above the line. In this case, on principle I am making an exception for your benefit. Anyway, I will be sure to update my review if they ever follow up and rebill us accurately. Otherwise, I'll leave you with this advice: If you do not fall for the warm smiles in their office like we did, you'll be sure to keep your own. read more

Smiles on Beach is the best dentist I have ever been too! My tech Cami is very informative while doing the cleaning, explains her recommendations, the cost, and experience and leaves it up to me to decide if I want to move forward. I am in and out within an hour for my cleaning. Dr Thompson is so knowledgeable and really takes an interest in forward thinking dentistry. I don't see myself going anywhere else! read more

Will not be going back. Went in for a cleaning and they didn't even clean my teeth! They told me I need a " deeper " cleaning and that the cost would be out of pocket. When I refused they wanted me to get a " Care " credit card so I could get the procedure done immediately. I also had a consultation that wasn't covered by insurance. I specifically told them I do not want anything done that isn't covered. Apparently they didn't check and I now have an $87 balance! I have never been to a dentist that doesn't clean your teeth at a cleaning appointment and then charges you for something you didn't want! read more

Got a crown which they said my insurance would cover then got hit with a $1,500 bill. Had to go back twice because it wasn't fitted right one time was 3 hours. That was a little over a year ago and my new dentist says it needs to be replaced already so gonna be out more money then today it actually fell out! I permanent crown not even 2 years later!!!! Smile on Beach Boulevard. 12/05/24 I came to the dentist at 11:30 am having made an appointment and filled out all the forms about myself that were sent to my computer before coming to the appointment. I arrived 20 minutes before the appointment and at the reception I was met by an office employee who offered me to fill out the forms, to which I replied that I did it at home yesterday. She said yes, but you did not sign these forms. I replied that I signed where I read everything, but I do not agree with your terms. She told me that they need my signature where I agree with their terms. I said that I do not agree with what is written on the first sheet and with what is written on the last one, namely, that I allow the office to sell my personal information to third-party marketers and receive profit from this for the office. And also on the last page, where it was said that they are not signing a contract with the insurance company, but with me, namely, how much they ask for their work, that much I have to pay them out of my pocket, and then they will work with my insurance company. I said that all your forms say that it is my right to agree to your terms or not, so I do not agree, and also all available sources say that patients are not obliged to sign any office forms if they are not sure of the truth of this information. She rudely demanded that I sign the papers until I asked the name and surname of the doctor who was supposed to see me, but did not see me and did not even come out to this whole argument and the name of the office manager. The woman who spoke to me in a humiliating and offensive manner turned out to be the office manager and who told me that she would not give her first and last name and gave me only a general business card with the names of all the doctors in the office written on it, without specifying the specific doctor who was supposed to work with me. After that, she called the police, and when the police arrived, the police told me that I should never cross the territory of this office again, since a report had been drawn up against me. And, by the way, I am 67 years old, and I came to them with an emergency. I want to warn everyone who has dignity. I paid my bill after getting a chipped tooth fixed. I was told that is final. 4 months later I get a bill in the mail for more money with no description- - just a bill for the amount. I called and they didn't care. This is a horribly ran place and my chipped tooth also has another chip. Please go anywhere else, this is the worst dentist office in town. *Follow up they called saying "there must be a mistake with your address cause you haven't paid." absolutely stupid and disrespectful. Dr. Hall did a magnificent job on my filling today. As well as her assistant, they were both helpful and considerate of my pain and any questions I had. The ladies at the front desk were also greatly helpful in figuring out the technical and financial part of things. I already have my next appointment scheduled and I'm looking forward to my cleaning. I have no complaint about the dentist, very professional and is highly skilled. My issue is with some clinical staff being under trained to being assisting in something as serious as dental implants. Also, the office staff leaves little to desire. The treatment plan and then billing don't reconcile. An appointment mysteriously gets canceled and they tell me I did it. I did not. read more

The most grieves error in my life was trusting (Smiles @ Beaches Dental ) clinic with my dental work!!! I was a fool to trust them with my dental work on my teeth! They fail to install a dental bridge correctly , fail to sterilize the bridge before installation ,plus the bridge had sharpe metal edges in the gum area ! This caused the gums to get infected Had to get a root canal on one of the teeth that supported the bridge! The root canal was done by drilling through the bridge support tooth and was done with dirty drill which cause infection. Two days ago the bridge fell oit during a meal . I looked the bridge it had metal showing where it was fitted to the gums. I recommend that the ADA close down this clinic and prevent the staff from practicing dental work or operation of a clinic read more

This has been my dentist for the last 2 years ... Nothing but great things to say about Smiles!!! Going to the dentist is never fun .. They make it easy and comfortable !!! My hygienist Kari is always on time, through, and explains in detail what's going on with my teeth and gums ! The office is clean, and the free bottled water is a plus ... Dr. Leonard and Smiles did not complete the snap-in denture process they agreed to in a treatment plan that I paid thousands of dollars for. Two days before the posts were to be set, I was told that Dr. Leonard no longer worked at that office and that the procedure could not be completed at that office. A later appointment with an actual oral surgeon revealed that the integrity and density of the bone graft that was done was insufficient to have supported posts and that the grafting would have to be redone along with a sinus lift. Dr. L never even alluded to the need for a sinus lift. Smiles has refunded some of my money but won't consider refunding the full amount unless I sign a very involved legal release that absolves them of any/all future liability/indemnity. They were very eager to get me to agree to spending the money in the first place and equally very eager to keep as much of it as they can legally get away with. Would never recommend this office to anyone for any reason. read more

Wow - needed a new dentist and went to Smiles for an initial visit. Made an appointment for my next appointment six months in advance. The day before my appointment I got a phone call "confirming my appointment." Imagine my shock when I arrived 5 minutes early for my appointment to be told "we'll try to squeeze you in!" The receptionist said that since I did not call back to confirm my appointment, my appointment was cancelled and given to another client!! The message did NOT say I was to call back. The appointment was made SIX MONTHS in advance and the reminder was ONE day before the appointment. Another client in the waiting room said this happened to her TWICE! Apparently, Smiles has "rules" about confirming appointments that they neglect to share with their clients! Well, it won't happen to me twice - I'm on the hunt for another dentist! Dr. Thompson is amazing! She takes the time to talk about the my concerns and always ensures I am comfortable. She is personable, kind and most of all compassionate. Went in for a cleaning. After an hour and a half and no cleaning the finance person comes in with all of their suggestions on work needed to be done. 2008.00$ to remove all silver fillings that I currently have no problems with. Looked online they strongly recommend that you do not remove fillings unless there are problems. Suggested a crown. Suggested envisionline for 5250.00$ . This is all after the hygienist said my teeth looked really good. They said I needed to do a cancer screening, $30. They said I needed a deep cleaning $111.00. I agreed to both. After I left I called another dentist and said for a deep cleaning normally your gums are numbed, they didn't do that? One giant up sell the whole time! Like buying a used car. STAY AWAY!! Late one night, I searched for a dentist close to my son's daycare. I came across this dentist office and scheduled an appointment online. (So convenient) When I arrived to my appointment a few minutes early, the front desk staff already had my paperwork ready to go. They were very friendly and organized. The office is very clean and my appointment ran on time! I communicated that I needed to be out by a certain time, the staff made sure I was able to leave on time. Smiles is a fairly new dentist office right by the intersection of Beach Blvd and Hodges. It opened last year, and has been getting pretty busy already. I've stopped by for an initial visit with xrays, as well as two cleanings and also unfortunately for my first filling since I was a kid. The building, equipment, and tools are all brand new and in great shape. The thing that really stands out to me though, is the staff. The receptionists are super personable. They will keep you laughing and at ease. The same dental hygienist did both of my cleanings. I wish that I could remember her name, but she did a great job both times and didn't stab me with her dental tools very often. My dentist is Dr. Knowlton. She came to check in after the cleanings and did my filling. She's professional and does great work. I was a little nervous about getting a filling, but it really didn't hurt at all. I think I was in and out in about half an hour. It's still pretty easy to get an appointment because they are new. If you are in the market for a dentist near the beach, check them out! read more

Dr. Leonard, Toni, and the entire staff were super nice and friendly! I needed a rush appointment before moving to Tampa, and they were able to quickly fit me in. It turns out I needed a root canal and some intensive gum treatment, and they went over all of the anticipated charges with me to make sure I wasn't hit with a big surprise. The absolute worst dental group I have ever encountered. They have no idea how to properly bill your insurance company and then they will continue sending you past due notices. The people who do their billing are rude and incompetent if you can reach them. They are constantly sending past due notices, but my insurance is paying everything....they also over charged me for the copay. The dentists appear to be great and therefore a shame that 2 billing claims have resulted in hours of my time fixing their errors. If you have hours to spare handling billing and you don't mind doing it....go there. read more

I demanded he change dental services and so happy I did. New dentist says his teeth are a mess and don't know why considering all that was charged. They should be in perfect order. Scammers! I went here for a cleaning and was told I had 2 cavities to get filled. Thank God I was skeptical because I had no sensitivity whatsoever so I decided to hold off on doing any fillings with them and found a new dentist for my next cleaning. When I went to the new dentist (Dr. Witten's office downtown - they are fantastic!) I got my cleaning and then asked about the 2 cavities. Sure enough I didn't have any cavities. I went in for a regular cleaning as a first time patient. The visit was 3 hours!! I was then told I need a deep cleaning of my gums, which would include my WHOLE mouth. They gave me a treatment plan for the price of around $1,700.00!! I was skeptical so I went to another dentist for a second opinion. I only need treatment on my back molars and I will be saving $1,000 going to the other dentist. This place is a complete rip off!! I would not recommend going to them, but if you do and they say you need treatment get a second opinion! Second visit in 3 months (I'm in the never had a cavity, so I refused to floss category) to get my gums in order. I must have really great dental insurance as most of the treatment has been covered. Had a bit of a wait this time, but they apparently had someone in there with an emergency. I'm terrified of dentists due to multiple bad experiences and far too many tears for fears. But my first visit on 80's day with Smiles on Beach had me singing, "Don't Stop Believing." My dental hygienist, Kat, was direct, personable (but not in the over-the-top way), and made me laugh. The conversation flowed so easily that I didn't even realize the cleaning happened. The staff are very pleasant and I have nothing bad to say about their service. However this company is run like a factory with little regard for what the patient truly needs. My hygienest was very nice and did a check-up. I was informed I would need intensive gum treatment and some possible root canals. At the end Dr Leonard stopped in, briefly looked at my chart and informed me I had periodontal disease and we needed to start the gum treatments straight away. I was given a treatment plan overview that was going to cost over hundreds of dollars, though they offered ways to "save". Based on other people's reviews, this is standard procedure. I decided to get a second opinion and went to another dentist. The difference was night and day. My new dentist informed me that I did not in fact have periodontal disease, I did not need gum treatments just a good clean, and no root canals just a filling. I had been worried enough to almost go with their treatment plan, but I am so grateful I sought a second opinion before doing irreversible changes to my teeth and spending hundreds on treatments that were not necessary. read more

Worst nightmare in going to a dentist happened here to my daughter when the hygienist misused a tool and damaged her teeth- making a HOLE and creating pain from shaving enamel that still causes discomfort more than two weeks later. I, too, had endured the worst cleaning of my life at the hands of the same incompetent "hygienist" The fact that my daughter endured abusive treatment by the hygienist who refused to listen when she complained during the process was inexcusable. But, Dr Leonard 's unconcern made it even worse. My daughter earns a living because of her beautiful smile as she takes better care of her teeth then anyone I've ever known-so to have her well being and career jeopardized by this medical malpractice has been a traumatic ordeal- and devastating. I used to think this was a good dental office- but in the past year, things deteriorated- including having to wait more than an hour from my appointment time,( one time, after checking in, I got a call to remind me I was " late"- when I had already checked in and was sitting just feet away from the office worker who was calling)- and there have been questionable overcharges and other issues - but I excused these problems as " growing pains." I even overlooked the abuses of my last painful cleaning ( worst in my life)from their newest hygienist who actually convinced me that it was ME who had far more serious problems then I thought. But, when my daughter was abused so viciously by this same hygienist- and Dr Leonard did not offer apology nor options to possibly fix the DAMAGE- I could no longer justify such malpractice. We don't know how there will be any way to help my daughter- nor me- except to try and help others never go through what we endured. read more
