When I moved to Chicago, I was in need of a new dentist so I decided to check out yelp. With great reviews already, I chose to go with Dr. Alkass. After going to my first appointment, I must say I am very glad I trusted his already great reputation. From the first time I called to when I was in the chair getting my cleaning, everyone in his office, as well as the doctor himself, was extremely professional and accommodating. My visit was one of the best dental experiences I have had in my life. Extremely easy and comfortable the entire time I was there. Dr. Alkass did a very thorough exam and work up, and was appropriate in recommending when and when not to treat certain problems or concerns. I was very impressed with this office. They really DO live up to their name; 'Smiles on Elston.' The girls at the front desk were such nice, caring, 'smiling' and friendly people. They even asked me if I had noticed the coupon on Yelp, which was worth a $90 savings! They didn't have to make mention of that at all, I was already there. The office, itself, is spotless and comfortable. You can watch tv while you're waiting, and choose your favorite flavor K-Cup coffee, or a nice refreshing drink of water from the water-cooler. And, of course, there are lots of magazines to choose from, as well, and an immaculate restroom readily available. I really like this dentist. He knew exactly what he was doing, and had all the up to date equipment on hand, including a camera so that I was able to see all too clearly what was going on inside my mouth. He took his time explaining the necessary steps, and noticed that I had an infection that needed to be healed before he could do the work. He sent me home with Amoxicillan and pain killers, which did the trick just fine. Then, a few days later, he removed my wisdom tooth with skill and very little pain, and told me that if I had any problems at all, just to call these numbers on the paper he gave me, no matter day or night. I felt like this was a place where the people were genuine, and really care about their patients. I was very happy with my experience, there, and will keep this dentist for life. read more

I went to visit Dr. Alkass after a long and shameful absence from the dentist, and it was great. Everyone in the office was super nice, and Dr. Alkass didn't add to my already high self-inflicted burden of shame about going so long without a cleaning. After I was finished, we scheduled some follow up appointments for my (inevitable) fillings, and I was able to get in for the first appointment 48 hours after my cleaning- amazing. While the equipment wasn't as nice as some other dentists I have been to downtown (old chairs, no tvs, etc), the dental equipment that actually matters (cameras, xrays, etc) seemed great. I asked my daughter to find a dentist for me and she recommended Smiles on Elston. When I asked her how she made this selection, she told me that she examines reviews , not the number, but the content. She said she felt that if someone would travel 42 miles to see a dentist, then that had to be a good dentist. She was right. I went to an immediate care center because a tooth I had long neglected due to vanity had become seriously infected. I was advised by the doctor to either see a dentist that day or go to an emergency room. The Smiles on Elston team allowed me to come in within a couple hours. Dr. Alkass let me know in no uncertain terms that I needed an extraction immediately. He explained what was going on and the gravity of my situation. He was patient, compassionate and thorough. One thing I have to say is that I felt I would need surgical strength painkillers post-op. Dr. Alkass assured me that the degree of pain I felt was because of the extensive infection. Having cleared up the infection, I did not require any more medicine than what I'd been given at immediate care. One of the team members called to check on me the next morning and I could honestly say that I am well on my way to feeling better than I have in quite some time. I highly recommend Smiles on Elston. If you are looking for a "good" dentist, don't go there. If you want the BEST overall dental experience with skilled dentist, then go to Dr. Alkass. He's worth a 50 mile drive. Don't wait. read more

Not only is Dr. Alkass highly skilled, but he has natural, very wonderful people skills. He makes you feel like you are the only patient he has all day, listens and addresses all concerns. I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Alkass and his team. Imagine a place where you can go to be welcomed, without lectures and shaming, despite how long it's been since you have been to the dentist WITH a super competent and friendly dentist. I highly recommend this dentist office. I recently had 4 wisdom teeth extractions done. The process was painless, done in less than an hour and a half, and quite affordable. Dr. Alkass, Jasmine, and the staff really made me feel comfortable and calm. I was not put to sleep for the extractions, so I was allowed to listen to my music with headphones throughout the process, which in my opinion is a thumbs up! It has been way too long since my last dentist visit, and I was scared and embarrassed about going in. I was afraid I'd be judged and treated poorly because of how I'd neglected my teeth. So let me start off by saying I haven't been to a dentist in almost a decade , partly due to having bad painful experiences in the past and since I got out of the marines. I had to go in because I had a broken tooth that had decayed and caused me excruciating pain. Dr Alkass and his staff was nothing short of amazing. So kind, patient, knowledgeable. They explained what was wrong, what needed to be done. Made sure I understood everything they were doing with the extraction. They really calmed my nerves as I have high anxiety. I was so happy, so satisfied with everything , I came back for a full check up so I can take preventive measures and really start taking care of my teeth. I ended up coming for two more visits. My first appointment was amazing! Stella, who handles the front desk, was very kind and greeted me with a huge smile. The dental hygienist who is new to the office (Jasmine) was very personable and gentle as well. The best part about the visit was my dental experience w/ Dr. Alkass! He was completely educated and thorough during my procedure. He walked me thru every step and I was extremely comfortable. I was numbed so well, that I couldn't feel a thing, which was also great.
