I came home and had to remove the polish and redo. I think that someone added enamel thinner to the bottle. Polish will never dry if it's thinned. $50 and it didn't last 3 hours. :-(. ( I always call ahead to make an appt) Most recently, however, I went to my "holiday no chip" removed and get a regular mani. I've seen several different techs here which were pretty decent, but yesterday i got the only man who works here. He did an absolutely fantastic job, both in removing the no chip, as well as the manicure...very gentle, thorough, and painstakingly accurate. This place sucks. I never go out of my way to write a bad review but. These people are rude. They never smile or talk to you and barely can even answer a question. They put me in a chair and the massager wasn't working. I asked to be moved and it was like I was made to feel like the pain in butt. Sorry but YOU ARE THE PAIN in the butt because I had to move to a chair that worked. No apology, no nothing. I mean it does not bother me to move but SAY SOMETHING! It's like they are all sedated or something. Or just find their lives to be completely miserable. And last time I was there this lady had a big scar on her foot and was very self conscious about it and was more worried that the employee would be freaked out about touching it. She kept saying thing likes like it's ok if you don't want to do this or that and the employee didn't even answer her. Like hello are you freaking brain dead? Well I should give this place 5 stars and there is no doubt I'll be back, but the loss of stars is because as I was getting a needed pedicure, they were putting up chairs and sweeping. I guess I was the last customer.... so I did what I always do... I checked in and realized there was a discount for first timers. 20%off! Great! So I checked in and upon checkout showed the coupon, but I was told that it was only valid if I got Both a pedicure and manicure. Given the fact that the lights were about to turn off, I'm pretty sure I couldn't request a manicure in the dark just to get my 20% off... you'd think they'd be a little more accommodating. My technician was Eenee and she was absolutely wonderful. Speaks very minimal English but DOES AN AMAZING JOB! I walked in for a mani-pedi and the attention to detail was outstanding, as soon as Eenee saw one thing off, she immediately addressed it and fixed it. I have naturally short and brittle nails, but Eenee did not make me feel bad about my nails (other salons have made fun of me) and she actually made me feel pretty for the day. She was very gentle on my feet and also didn't STARE at them, she would still look at me and around the store which was really nice. I get uncomfortable when people are just constantly staring at my feet but her eye contact was awesome. Eenee is awesome and I truly recommend her. Also, this place is GREAT for a last minute walk-in. They took me right away, and allowed me to take my time picking out colors. They were very good, I will be coming back. I paid $75 for a regular pedi, and a no-chip mani, I personally think the pricing is fair for the location and quality. I left a $20 tip for Eenee! read more

This place is a gem! It opened up about a month ago and I was looking for a new nail salon to go to. I'm really glad I gave this place a shot. When I first arrived, I noticed a small private lot located in the back of the salon. They share that parking lot with the neighboring stores. Luckily, I got the last spot in the lot. I had made an appointment at 12:15pm (even though walk-ins are welcome) and when I entered the salon, I was warmly greeted by the salon owners. They thanked me for coming and asked me to pick a nail color. SN&S carries both Essie and OPI products, which is great because I love both lines. As I waited for them to fill up the pedicure bowl, I looked around the salon and I was amazed at how clean it was. Everything was organized, and the salon was so peaceful. They painted it a very soothing mint color and soft music played in the background, which was great because I wanted to relax. They have 6 manicure and 6 pedicure stations, which is great if you have a big party. Bogi was the lady who did my pedicure. She was real sweet and took her time to perfect my nails. She also was really easy to talk to, which was also a plus. Emmie did my manicure and she too was wonderful. The entire staff was very friendly and professional. SN&S accepts cash, check, and credit cards. They prefer if you tip in cash, which many salons expect anyways. I highly recommend this place and I can't wait to go back there again! read more

I really wanted to like this place.. I went about 3 times over the summer. First 2 manicures were good, see my pic of nail art. (That deserves stars.) it was done by Namuk who I saw on my first couple visits and did a great job. However, my last visit in August was my final. My mom and I made appointments but we literally waited an hour to be seen. They did apologize and gave us a certificate for a free mani in the future, but then my nails were cut crooked, and this is when I noticed that utensils were being shared... Which is just the last straw for me. Cleanliness is my #1 priority at nail salon. I wish I could a zero rating. I had originally written a review the day after my mani/pedi, but because of what has transpired in just a couple of days I deleted it. I didn't want to have anyone use my review as a reason why they go in there, as I paid $65 for what turns out as a lousy mani/pedi. I went in, for the very first (and last) time on a Wednesday. I needed my mani to last a full two weeks, so I was getting a no-chip manicure. I was dissatisfied with the pedicure I received because she tried cutting my ingrown toe nail with the regular clippers instead of some smaller ones. It hurt and when I said "ow", she stopped cutting it and left it the way it was. The pedicure felt very rush. In fact, she didn't take off all of the red polish. I decided to give her the doubt and let her do my no-chip manicure. She wasn't paying that much attention to my nails, as she was busy watching the World Cup game. Keep in mind that I was getting a no-chip gel polish manicure. Thursday night I noticed an air bubble in the polish of one of my nails and by Friday there were two air bubbles. I've gotten these type of manicures for years and I have never had a nail break with these. Well, on Saturday, while on vacation, my thumb nails cracks right down the middle. So I've wasted $65 and will need to have work redone, this time by someone who cares about what they are doing! read more

Cute place. Parking is pretty bad, you have to come during a non traffic hour to find any parking. Also if you go in for pedicure I recommend not getting It done by Hanna. I've gotten my last two pedicures from her and I just have Had It. She's so careless and quite rude. She spend maybe a total of 10 seconds with the pumice rock on my feet. I had a fantastic visit at Smiley Nails today. I had a coupon for a free manicure with a paid pedicure! My nail tech did an amazing job massaging my feet and legs during the pedicure and hands and arms during the pedicure. I also got a fabulous neck and shoulder massage! My toes and nails look perfect! I was able to walk in with no appointment and was seated immediately. The salon was clean and open. It was comfortable with spa chairs and beautiful, colorful updated sinks and faucets. I am giving Smiley's 5 stars based on both service and quality of my no-chip manicure. I am really surprised to see all the reviews talking about how rude techs have been-I just experienced the total opposite. Service: This was my first time at Smiley's as I just moved to the area. I had to bring my 6 1/2 week old son with me because I was heading out of town and was desperate for my first manicure since his birth. While he was sleeping when I arrived, once the stroller stopped moving he started getting fussy. One of the techs must have seen my "oh shit" face because she immediately came over and asked if she could walk him around the shop. She was an absolute godsend! Quality: I HAD to have been moving around looking at my son while my nails were being done, but you would never know. The tech took great care in my nail tips to ensure the no-chip lasts. She also did a great job of cleaning up all the edges. Hopefully my next trip to Smiley's will be without a newborn and a little more relaxing for me, but I will absolutely be coming back the next time I can get a mani/pedi. And to the girl who walked my son back and forth so I could have good looking nails for family pictures this weekend...I love you. read more

First I'll start by saying that I am licensed and trained in nails. I won't be returning here because they made a HUGE sanitation no no. When I was getting my pedicure, I looked up and they were dipping a (clearly old wood stick) in a tub of orange lotion and using the stick to swipe the product on my direct skin then placing the stick BACK IN the tub. Who knows how many people these sticks have directing touched with no replacement. That tub is now a pool of other people's skin and who knows what else. I checked around the salon and every single pedicure station had this same nastiness going on. I know to someone who isn't trained in nails that this may sound picky but it's not, it's super disgusting and unclean. read more

I have been going to Smiley for years. Some of the staff isn't as friendly, but most were friendly enough, do a good job, and it is very clean. My last two experiences were bad enough to not only never go back but it brought me here to share my experiences. My first bad experience was when the owner herself was so rough with my toe that she cut me bad enough that I couldn't stop bleeding for 30 minutes. I attached a picture below. She actually blamed me for cutting my toe nails incorrectly. Which I admit, I don't do a great job myself, but you also don't need to be rough enough to cut someone that badly. There was no remorse or reimbursement. I gave them another chance, because everyone has bad days. I had a rough week and decided to treat myself to a Valentine's Day manicure. I showed the technician a picture of one small heart and asked her if it wasn't too much would she be able to do one heart on one of my nails. Her response was completely disrespectful. She rolled her eyes, exhaled loudly, and shrugged her shoulders and said I guess I can try. She then began speaking in another language and it was clear it was directed at me. All because I asked her to draw one heart on one nail..that I was willing to pay extra for! She could have even said I don't feel comfortable doing it, and I would have been fine with it. I'm not fine with being disrespected. Not to mention the heart looked nothing like the picture, and I was not satisfied with the end result. I just wanted to get out of there and never look back. I am normally a very generous tipper, and I gave a dollar less than 20% because I wasn't happy with my service. She made sure to make a comment about my tip in her language, too. My sister told me about this place. I never even knew it existed. It's near my house so I was happy to go check it out! The place itself is very clean. They have parking behind the building but it only has a few spots. There is plenty of parking on the side street, however so it shouldn't be an issue. I walked in and was greeted promptly. I had a reservation because I wasn't sure how busy it would be on a Sunday afternoon and because I'm 9 months pregnant and didn't want to sit around waiting! It wasn't very busy so they took me right away. The girl who did my pedicure was very sweet and helped me in and out of the chair. She made some small talk with me but not too much which was fine by me! She did a great job! The girl who did my no chip manicure was also very sweet. She also did a great job! Soft instrumental music was piped into the room and absent was the constant ringing of cell phones, blaring television and constant chatter of the customers. Very calm and serene. Vicky did a wonderful job on my no-chip manicure and offered a back massage after my perfect nails were completed. Absolutely! She was sweet and paid careful attention to what she was doing. My no-chip manicure (OPI products as a bonus) was $35 and I will receive a free manicure on my birthday. Take the punch card that they offer and you'll save $15 off of your 11th no-chip manicure. Never again will I go to this rotten place. There are different kinds of unprofessionalism in running a business. Lack of skill, lack of service, etc. I have experienced an absurd form of unprofessionalism at Smiley Nails. That will come later in my review. First the basics... They have a very limited color selection for no-chip, and a very limited supply of pleasant attitudes. For the first couple of years I came to Smiley about half the staff was pleasant. The last 2-3 times no one has been pleasant. Today took the cake in two different ways. And I saw them cross-contaminating moisturizer between clients. The shop was still quite full at 5:20pm when 4 of us (out of 10-12 patrons in the shop) were excitedly chatting about the Cubs and trying to follow the game on our cellphones (Smiley has a couple of wi-fi networks but are unwilling to share access with their patrons). So we asked them to switch one of their two TVs from Ch 5 news (that no one was watching) to Ch 9 to see the last inning of a tight Cubs-Cards game with post-season implications. Our two requests were completely ignored, and at least one of the staff that was asked spoke excellent English but simply chose to ignore the request. Rude. Unaccommodating. I had called earlier in the day to ask what time they were open until. I was told 6. I said I wasn't sure what time I would arrive, would they still take a walk-in after 5? Yes. "For a no-chip?" Yes, by 5:15. So I got there at 5:15 and asked if I could have a manicure. Yes. I was asked what kind of manicure I had on and I replied no-chip. I know this was understood because the manicurist prepared the soak off materials for me. I was told to pick out my color. (They do not have any no chip samples to choose from, just a bunch of bottles with black glass and some of them have a dot of color on the top of the applicator brush.) I sat down and waited for the manicurist. She came over and started to wrap my nails in acetone to dissolve my current manicure. After they had been soaking for a while the first woman came over and said "This is a no-chip color." I said "Yes. I wear no-chip" and held up my hands, soaking in the foil wraps that dissolve no-chip. She said "It's too late for that. We close at 6. We'll take it off, but you come back tomorrow." I said "I can't, I have a flight at 8am tomorrow morning." "She said "Then we will just take it off." Can you imagine telling a client - with about 10 other clients still receiving services at the manicure stations and the pedicure stations and a couple at the drying station - that you just decided you didn't feel like staying long enough to complete the service the client was already in the middle of receiving? How absurd and unprofessional. So I said "No thanks, I'll go somewhere that appreciates my business." I slipped the foils off my finger tips and left. I can not strongly enough recommend AGAINST the service at this rude place. The owner's description of this business claims they treat all clients like family and that the staff is pleasant. Maybe back in 2010 when they opened. But certainly not in 2019! Other than cross-contaminating the moisturizer it seems pretty sanitary, which is what initially impressed me with this salon a few years ago. But their collective attitude is atrocious and anything but friendly. BUYER BEWARE! read more

It is a relief to find a place that you aren't worried you will get a bacterial infection (for reals). Got the OPI gel manicure for a wedding (in Lincoln Park After Dark) and it has been perfect for 2 weeks. I brought my mom here. This is my new spot. Another terrible experience today. Done with this place. It used to be a great place and now it's just sloppy and the techs are rude and in a rush. Had to ask my technician to come back twice and clean up her sloppy mess of a pedicure. She also cut me twice. The last few times they have been very rough. Every time someone walked through the door my tech would stop what she was doing and have a full conversation for a few minutes with other employees. Far from relaxing. Most tidbits have already been shared, but I'll run down my perspective: -The exterior is totally unassuming and a far cry from the sleek, modern and super clean interior. -The folks who work here are quiet and professional, so you'll definitely have more of a chance to enjoy the massage pedicure chairs or TV on in the background rather than ladies talking amongst themselves. -Their polish selection is about average - Essie and OPI. They did, however, have a pretty wide selection of colors for the gel/no chip manicures. -I saw a sign and setup for short neck/shoulder massages. -They accept credit cards for services AND tips. -Free parking right in front if you can score a space. Jut be careful backing in! -My pedicure ran me $30 and was pretty sweet with a scrub, lotion, hot towel and accurate paint job. I'm so glad I stopped in - late one Thursday night after work and in a hurry to get a mani/pedi before vacation. The place was immaculate and nicely decorated. The staff was polite, friendly, professional. They asked me my name and if I'd been there before but didn't overdo the small talk, which I appreciate because after work I prefer to wind down rather than chat. My pedicure still looks good 2 weeks later and my manicure held up for longer than I ever could've expected given I was swimming in chlorine and oceans all day long for several days.
