I'm so glad I stopped in - late one Thursday night after work and in a hurry to get a mani/pedi before vacation. The place was immaculate and nicely decorated. The staff was polite, friendly, professional. They asked me my name and if I'd been there before but didn't overdo the small talk, which I appreciate because after work I prefer to wind down rather than chat. My pedicure still looks good 2 weeks later and my manicure held up for longer than I ever could've expected given I was swimming in chlorine and oceans all day long for several days. I will never come back to this salon. This was my first visit and I wasn't impressed when I walked into the door it wasn't a friendly environment. The girl who did my nails was unfriendly and seemed annoyed. My nails are nice but honestly I wouldn't come back here because the customer service is horrible. First timer today and I plan on coming back. The Appointment and Wait. I called at 9:06 am and got a 10 am slot. I walked in at 10:00 and was surprised to see how many people get their nails done on a Friday morning. I must be doing something wrong... Anyhoo, I went through the usual prompt "check in" (aka the awkward greeting/explanation to everyone who turns to look at the open door), picked my colors and sat down in their waiting area. There were 2 ladies already waiting before me but I was up next - guessing they were walk ins? Turned out to be a 10 minute wait for an appointment which isn't too bad for a busy time. The Service. Great execution on the polish. Clean lines and even coats. Hooray! It's seriously tough finding someone who gets this right. My cuticles usually get trimmed within a millimeter of bleeding out and the polish is a second thought. Glad I found someone who cares about the polish and doesn't maul my cuticles. There's the option to upgrade your service with a massage. I didn't upgrade but ended getting a quickie, gentle shoulder rub when I sat down at the drying station. I tipped $10 on my $40 ManiPedi. No idea if that had anything to do with it. Two other ladies joined me at the drying station; only one received a surprise shoulder rub so it doesn't seem to be a standard freebie. The Ambience. It's got a nice calming environment. Open, airy layout and soothing color scheme. I vaguely remember background music which reminded me of a yoga studio. There are 2 tvs on with closed caption running. Everyone seemed to take a cue from the vibe because the noise level was fairly low even though every manicure and pedicure station was occupied when I walked in. Looking forward to my next visit! Rude and always running behind. What's the point of making an appointment if you make people sit and wait for an hour? Went in for a no chip manicure, and when I sat down the young woman doing my nails was extremely rude and continually asked me where I had gotten my previous no chip. After rolling her eyes and sighing multiple times she was done. My no chip chipped 2 days later. I didnt even bother going back to have them fix it. read more

I'd vote this salon a solid four (maybe even five)! I have had manicures done there (only $15 for regular and free on your Birthday!) quite a few times and was always happy with them. I also did no chip manicure and regular pedicure combo for special occasions. Each lasted at least 2-3 weeks! Good color selection, clean place, friendly service and they can usually accommodate you on a short notice. It's a hit in my book! And not too far from my house, too. read more

Tried this place because my other nail place that I go to there is only 1 person that does a great job. Since I was coming with my mom and daughter we went here. The place is nice and so is the staff but I am disappointed as my no chip that I got done on May 24th chipped already and my nails feel very fragile where I can bend them. I always get no chip and they are not suppose to bend very easily. I will be going back to my other nail place. read more

I love coming to Smiley. They're always so accommodating and do a great job. I come for regular pedicures and I have absolutely no complaints. I sometimes get ingrown toe nails and their technicians always know how to best take care of them. They get kind of busy on the weekends, so it's best to call ahead. read more

Rude women. Had an attitude the moment I walked in the door because I said I had the dip on my nails. They want to charge $10 to remove it because they don't have a drill. I told them no drill is necessary. They continued to be rude talking over me in their Asian language. I guess they don't need any business. Should take a class in customer service skills. Got a polish change on Friday. Una was the person who painted my nails. The whole nail was not painted; there were plenty of unpolished spaces on my nail. Less than 24 hours later the polish started coming off slowly. Now it's the end of day Monday and practically all the nail polish is gone. Complete waste of money. $10 plus $3 tip. I had a manicure on May 13th at a different salon in Wilmette and the polish only started to chip off 9 days later. I didn't even get a no-chip! It was quite remarkable. I thought this was a good deal for a polish change but it definitely wasn't. Extremely disappointed. read more

Smiley's updated the salon around Christmas, with new massage chairs. The foot bowls are now equipped to use disposable, sanitary, one-time-use bags: pedi condoms! The ladies (& men!) are always pleasant and really good at what they do. No-chip is super popular, although I get regular mani-pedi. I love the punch card system, which they keep in-store...one less thing for me to keep track of. read more

This is a great new nail salon in Edison Park/Park Ridge area. I have tried many other Nail Salons in the area and so far this is my new favorite place! I have gone twice for a "No Chip" manicure and I have been very happy with them, I haven't tried any other services beyond the "No Chip" manicure. Beyond nail service they offer chair massages and waxing too. Their prices may be slightly higher than others ($15 Manicure, $35 No Chip, $40 Mani/Pedi Combo) but I am willing to pay more for a clean salon. While I was getting my manicure many other customers were commenting on how nice their place turned out and that they will be back soon. There is a small lot in the back for parking. They accept credit cards but prefer cash. read more

I was not pleased with the way I was treated. They cater to the regulars. I had a set appointment. There were two people that walked in- seemed like regulars and they sat them for a pedi before me. Finally I was waved over, after 20 min, and waited longer for someone to come to me. As My lady finished painting my toes, there was an area opened for me to get my nails done, however, the boss (or so it seemed like she made the calls) told my lady to keep me in the pedi chair and allowed for the other lady to go sit in the chair (a regular) and she sat there a little over 7 minutes later, when I could have been sitting there. I wasn't even able to soak my hands in water because the poor lady working on me used a pillow as a work surface to work on my hands. Finally, someone was dismissed from the mani area and I got to finally sit in an open space. They did not make me feel welcomed. Also- another lady filled me in on how they Saran Wrap your feet and put an oil on them to not smudge your pedi- thank you for the heads up lady- because they didn't care. First horrible manicure experience here ever. I've been coming here since they've opened. Walked in at 1:57. Manicure done by 2:16 not busy. Male manicurist, heavier with glasses. Seemed in a major rush. Seemed like he was pissed that I didn't tip him $5 on a $15 manicure. Should have waited till the end to pay. Sloppy paint job, uneven filing, fuzz in my polish on my nails, no cuticle oil so it looks dry around my nails. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come. read more

This place has gone completely down hill. Just left and not only did they file my nails too short. They gave me the Wrong shape. I took me an entire month to get the length i wanted and with out asking they destroyed that effort. They also can not do nail art, even the simple line i wanted. I am never going back. read more

I should learn to trust my instincts. Three strikes and they are out. ~First experience, I did the no chip, lasted two days. Thought it was just me, but today when I was there a woman complained that her no chip that she's done twice, chipped within days. The response she received, "you must have not done no chip" She was not happy, nor would I be. ~I was there this summer for my second visit, took my niece and daughter for pedicures. When I went to pay, the gentleman who walks around like he owns the place, (which he very well may own it) actually told me I did not tip enough and told me he was putting more on my card. I was flabergasted, who in the hell has the right to tell a person they don't tip enough. I gave 20%, to each of the ladies who did our pedicures. Needless to say, I did NOT allow him to do it and tipped what I thought was necessary. ~Final visit: I went today with my daughter, after a long winter we both looked forward to a nice pedicure. Oso who did my nails was rude, she was inefficient and the most unfriendly one there. I have seen her crack her gum in people's faces before, therefore; avoided her due to that. But today, she was who was assigned to me. I thought I would give her the benefit of the doubt. (Gum was gone, someone must have said something to her.) Turns out the hot water was not working. While I thought we'd enjoy that nice pedicure, we received a half assed one and with cool water to top it off. The pedicure was done in 10 minutes, and the woman who books all the appointments and stands up front came around and gave everyone a $5 off coupon. While that is appreciated, it's hardly a make up for a pedicure that didn't occur and cool water. My pedicure consisted of lotion, filing and some pumice stone, all of which took a total of 10 minutes. The woman up front, who I have been told is the owner, should have given everyone money off today and the coupon. She knew I was not pleased and asked me if the girl I had was good and I told her no. (My daughter was appalled, however, if you receive bad treatment, and no one says anything, how can it improve?) I am done going here. They rush you, they don't stand behind their poor work and they are quite simply put, rude. read more

I can't quite believe some of the negative reviews on here for Smiley, I guess you just can't please some people! Smiley is a fantastic neighborhood salon & spa. Betty and Mogi do a great job forming relationships with all of their customers, I myself have been a "regular" since they opened & I won't go anywhere else! They do sometimes have long wait times, that's the price you pay for a great salon people. If you go somewhere on a Saturday as a walk in and they don't have anybody in there, I'd turn around a walk out, but that's just me :) Tonight my daughter and all her friends are getting manicures done for her birthday, and I'm sure Betty will take care of the girls like she always takes care of me! I was pleasantly surprised with this place. I'm not much of a girly girl, but every now and again, I like to get a mani pedi. This place was so reasonably priced and they did great work! I would definitely recommend them and will probably be going back. Great place! Friendly owners and staff! They are efficent,clean, and get you out fast if you are in a hurry! Accommodate walk- ins quickly.They also give repeat customers little extras at holiday times! The massage that goes with the mani is wonderful! If you get your nails done on the NW side and are not going here then you are doing yourself a disservice. Smiley's is the cleanest nail salon that I have ever been to. It's well organized, and well managed. I will be the first to admit that I have always been skeptical of Asian run nail salons because of the infection horror stories that I've heard. I can almost assure you that you will not have any issues here. It's very clean and there are sterilizer's all over the place and they do get used. I would recommend you make an appointment as they are always busy-they do take walk-ins and the average wait has been about 15 minutes. read more
