If you walk into a restaurant at 7pm on a Wednesday night and the place is fully packed and there are people waiting behind you to be sat, you KNOW you made the right decision to go there. We were greeted nicely by the hostess and waited roughly 5 minutes for a table to open up. A family of five came in right after us and decided to sit at the bar to eat. I knew in my heart that this was the best place to go to for my husband's birthday dinner. We sat on some barstools while we waited, discussing the hockey game playing on the tv behind the bar. I loved the low ambient lighting that spread across the ceiling. Our waitress was nice but she never gave us her name so I unfortunately can't shout her out. She gave us recommendations so I ended up taking one of hers. Now, if you have read my Thai restaurant reviews, you know by now that I judge a Thai restaurant by ordering their Pad Thai the first visit, however, I broke that rule because I just KNEW this place was going to be good. We ordered the Tom Kha soup with chicken, Pad Kee Mao with chicken, I ordered the Khao Soi Gai (it comes with chicken, no substitutions), and one Thai iced tea. You guys. When the Tom Kha soup touched my lips, I was SO excited to get the main course! It was made PERFECTLY. I haven't had true Tom Kha since probably when I lived in California over a decade ago. The Thai tea was strong and delicious, exactly how it should be made. The Khao Soi Gai...that first sip of the curry broth nearly made me go Meg Ryan-mode in the restaurant. If you know, you know. "I'll have what she's having!" Our waitress recommended this dish and I'm so glad I was adventurous and tried something different outside of my "I'll judge you based off of your Pad Thai" attitude. It was perfect and when I say perfect, I didn't even add lime juice to it because I didn't want to mess anything up with the flavor profile. Sure, lime could have added another element to the dish but when I say it was perfect the way it was, it's true. The night at Smiley would have ended perfectly if it weren't for the miserable couple who sat beside us discussing how unhappy they were in their marriage and decided to accept the waitstaff into their broken marriage by being completely rude. But the staff remained professional and kind through it all and I give them HUGE props for that because I was a moment away from telling that wretched couple off. In short, the staff here are wonderful, and the food is memorable, delectable, delicious, perfect...it's HEAVEN. We will DEFINITELY be back to try other menu items! read more

Came here by myself so I was given the option to sit at either the bar or sushi bar. The bartender was quick to make drinks and she still had time to check on me and take my orders. The miso soup was great and my 3 rolls came out not much longer after my soup! Everything was fresh and tasty. I will warn you if you get the spicy yellowtail roll it is actually hot unlike at other sushi restaurants. There is cucumber in the roll to combat the heat so it's still a tasty option! read more

Service here is friendly and quick. The place is very open and gives a slight sports bar vibe with the TVs. I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5 because the items on the menu that were supposed to to be spicy had next to no spice in it (the tom yum noodle soup). Not sure what happened the day we went. I ordered cashew chicken. My friend ordered drunken noodles. (Called something else). My fried rice (paid extra to get it) came out COLD. The entree had very little chicken and a lot of gravy. I sent it back. It came back out with onions (I ordered no onions, had to pick my battles)and it was hot and fresh and so good!! My friends food was terrible. Noodles had a rubbery texture and bad taste so he sent it back. Ordered pad Thai and he liked it. So. Would I go back? Maybe. Everyone seems to like it! Oh. This place is so good we drive 40 minutes from Nashville just to eat here. The sushi rolls are creative, fresh, and so well made! We love the variety in the menu and how well executed everything is. This was our first time trying here. We walked right in with a pleasant greeting and were sat at a small table. They have an extensive menu and an IPad that shows pictures of all the sushi options which was really great to swipe through. We stuck with ordering Thai food because that was what I was craving! We had the white tuna sashimi which is usually our favorite but it had a little bit of a sweet aftertaste that wasn't the best. We had the smiley roll and the chicken pad Thai both were great. Visiting my daughter in Mt. Juliet and the three of us decided on Thai for our first night at Smiley Thai and Sushi restaurant. I started with the wonton soup and we shared an order of steamed dumplings. The dumplings were very tasty but the wonton soup was odd. I've never had peas in my wonton soup before and it was an unwelcome addition. There was more "stuff" than broth. Just simply odd. I had the Prawn Pad Thai and the presentation was unexpected. There were two large prawns, in their shells, on top of the rice noodles. It was messy getting them out but the dish tasted good. If you try one thing, it needs to be Khao Soi Gai. The only caveats being that you should like spicy and have long since graduated from pad Thai as your "go to". It resembles a curry but with multiple layers of flavor, enhanced by the several side additions that you build on top of the dish. It's absolutely my favorite. I wasn't sure I'd find a Thai restaurant so close to me that I would like so much, but I'm so happy that I found Smiley Thai. I've tried their red and green curry, gyoza, and spring rolls and they were all excellent. The curry comes in a large portion, and I was able to make 2 meals out of it. My boyfriend loved their pineapple chicken fried rice. Highly recommend all of these items, and I'm excited to trying something new from their menu. Eating here made my brain set off those "feel good" endorphins. Every single bite of what we ordered was like a party in my mouth. I don't say that often but I can't wait to come back here.
