If you walk into a restaurant at 7pm on a Wednesday night and the place is fully packed and there are people waiting behind you to be sat, you KNOW you made the right decision to go there. We were greeted nicely by the hostess and waited roughly 5 minutes for a table to open up. A family of five came in right after us and decided to sit at the bar to eat. I knew in my heart that this was the best place to go to for my husband's birthday dinner. We sat on some barstools while we waited, discussing the hockey game playing on the tv behind the bar. I loved the low ambient lighting that spread across the ceiling. Our waitress was nice but she never gave us her name so I unfortunately can't shout her out. She gave us recommendations so I ended up taking one of hers. Now, if you have read my Thai restaurant reviews, you know by now that I judge a Thai restaurant by ordering their Pad Thai the first visit, however, I broke that rule because I just KNEW this place was going to be good. We ordered the Tom Kha soup with chicken, Pad Kee Mao with chicken, I ordered the Khao Soi Gai (it comes with chicken, no substitutions), and one Thai iced tea. You guys. When the Tom Kha soup touched my lips, I was SO excited to get the main course! It was made PERFECTLY. I haven't had true Tom Kha since probably when I lived in California over a decade ago. The Thai tea was strong and delicious, exactly how it should be made. The Khao Soi Gai...that first sip of the curry broth nearly made me go Meg Ryan-mode in the restaurant. If you know, you know. "I'll have what she's having!" Our waitress recommended this dish and I'm so glad I was adventurous and tried something different outside of my "I'll judge you based off of your Pad Thai" attitude. It was perfect and when I say perfect, I didn't even add lime juice to it because I didn't want to mess anything up with the flavor profile. Sure, lime could have added another element to the dish but when I say it was perfect the way it was, it's true. The night at Smiley would have ended perfectly if it weren't for the miserable couple who sat beside us discussing how unhappy they were in their marriage and decided to accept the waitstaff into their broken marriage by being completely rude. But the staff remained professional and kind through it all and I give them HUGE props for that because I was a moment away from telling that wretched couple off. In short, the staff here are wonderful, and the food is memorable, delectable, delicious, perfect...it's HEAVEN. We will DEFINITELY be back to try other menu items! read more

Came here by myself so I was given the option to sit at either the bar or sushi bar. The bartender was quick to make drinks and she still had time to check on me and take my orders. The miso soup was great and my 3 rolls came out not much longer after my soup! Everything was fresh and tasty. I will warn you if you get the spicy yellowtail roll it is actually hot unlike at other sushi restaurants. There is cucumber in the roll to combat the heat so it's still a tasty option! read more

Absolutely love this place! It is my top choice for Thai and sushi in the surrounding area. The food is always on point. Some of my favorites are the Pad Thai with prawns, Pad Kee Mao, and rainbow roll. My favorite drink to order is the Thai tea. Smiley Thai is consistently good and that is saying something. Not sure what happened the day we went. I ordered cashew chicken. My friend ordered drunken noodles. (Called something else). My fried rice (paid extra to get it) came out COLD. The entree had very little chicken and a lot of gravy. I sent it back. It came back out with onions (I ordered no onions, had to pick my battles)and it was hot and fresh and so good!! My friends food was terrible. Noodles had a rubbery texture and bad taste so he sent it back. Ordered pad Thai and he liked it. So. Would I go back? Maybe. Everyone seems to like it! Oh. Service here is friendly and quick. The place is very open and gives a slight sports bar vibe with the TVs. I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5 because the items on the menu that were supposed to to be spicy had next to no spice in it (the tom yum noodle soup). This place is so good we drive 40 minutes from Nashville just to eat here. The sushi rolls are creative, fresh, and so well made! We love the variety in the menu and how well executed everything is. Loved this sushi spot! Started off with a few apps. Out of the apps my least favorite was the crab Rangoon. The cheese on the inside had the consistency and color of Mac n Cheese and I did not see any crab whatsoever. Pot stickers were the star of the show. Entree portions are easily shareable as are appetizers. If you want solid Thai food with a nice ambiance, good food and good service, you should try this place. This was our first time trying here. We walked right in with a pleasant greeting and were sat at a small table. They have an extensive menu and an IPad that shows pictures of all the sushi options which was really great to swipe through. We stuck with ordering Thai food because that was what I was craving! Smiley Thai & Sushi is one of those rare places that gets it right every single time. The food? Incredible. The service? Always warm and attentive. The ambiance? Beautiful and relaxing. Everything on the menu feels intentional and made with love. We had the Pad Thai and the crab curry and let me tell you...that crab curry lives rent-free in my mind. So... Mount Juliet, it is. It was worth the 45 min drive. All the specials were delicious. I had the phad thai with giant prawns. I don't think it was actually called that, but lemme tell ya... these prawns were huge. Hubby ordered their sushi special which was also very good. I grew up in Cali and am an Asian food connoisseur lol. Thai food is one of my faves when it comes to rich flavors. One complaint, it's quite expensive. We had a few people walk past us without saying anything before we were sat so at first we felt a bit uncomfortable. We asked to go to the sushi bar which we did. We had the white tuna sashimi which is usually our favorite but it had a little bit of a sweet aftertaste that wasn't the best. We had the smiley roll and the chicken pad Thai both were great. Good thing he asked for it on the side. He ended up just mixing spicy Mayo & soy sauce to use as dressing. Served on a bed of lettuce and greens. The dressing was mild (I asked for a 3 spice level) . Overall a great salad. Visiting my daughter in Mt. Juliet and the three of us decided on Thai for our first night at Smiley Thai and Sushi restaurant. I started with the wonton soup and we shared an order of steamed dumplings. The dumplings were very tasty but the wonton soup was odd. I've never had peas in my wonton soup before and it was an unwelcome addition. There was more "stuff" than broth. Just simply odd. I had the Prawn Pad Thai and the presentation was unexpected. There were two large prawns, in their shells, on top of the rice noodles. It was messy getting them out but the dish tasted good. If you try one thing, it needs to be Khao Soi Gai. The only caveats being that you should like spicy and have long since graduated from pad Thai as your "go to". It resembles a curry but with multiple layers of flavor, enhanced by the several side additions that you build on top of the dish. It's absolutely my favorite. I've ordered takeout from here twice, and both times the food was packaged well and tasted delicious. I wasn't sure I'd find a Thai restaurant so close to me that I would like so much, but I'm so happy that I found Smiley Thai. I've tried their red and green curry, gyoza, and spring rolls and they were all excellent. The curry comes in a large portion, and I was able to make 2 meals out of it. My boyfriend loved their pineapple chicken fried rice. Highly recommend all of these items, and I'm excited to trying something new from their menu. This was my second time at Smiley Thai and Sushi. I ordered the Beef Pho and thought it was really good. Very flavorful and they bring lots of great sauces you can mix in with it if you choose to. My son-in-law ordered 3 rolls the Godzilla role, the dynamite roll and the tiger roll and said they were all very good. Overall, the service was good, and the servers were nice. Eating here made my brain set off those "feel good" endorphins. Every single bite of what we ordered was like a party in my mouth. I don't say that often but I can't wait to come back here. Pho was a 10/10 probably one of the best I've had. I'm wondering if they sell just the broth because I'd love to just sip it. The peanut sauce was great that came with the summer rolls. I haven't been here for a few months and I am really disappointed. The sushi rolls have gone up substantially in price and are much smaller than before. I ordered the garlic beef stir fry and it was OK. My husband got the chicken teriyaki but was served beef teriyaki which he would have been ok with but the beef was very tough. We ordered miso soup and had to ask for it later in the meal because they didn't bring it. It was over $100 for three people and I don't feel like there was good value for the money. Definitely not what I expected. Taste was good on the lo mein but the wonton soup was definitely NOT that good to me. It has a bunch of carrots and peas and hardly any cilantro or the garlic. Only a wonton soup because of the 3 wonton in it. The portions were very "East Nash" for the price, I expected the overload of food and what I got was an oversized empty plate, enough said that I wasn't able to share with my 2 year old son like I usually can in every Thai restaurant we go to and we left hungry.
