I went to Tacool the first few days after they opened hoping to find a new spot right in the center of campus for a quick lunch. I ordered an al pastor torta, which was about $12 after tax. After waiting a bit, I finally got my order and was satisfied, but felt that it could have been a lot more flavorful compared to other tortas at similar or cheaper prices around campus. I have yet to try other items on their menu, like their tacos or flautas which I've heard were decent by word of mouth, but my experience here was only average at best. Given the amount of similar food on campus, I'm not planning on re-visiting, but since this restaurant is also in the middle of campus I may eventually come around to it anyways. Overall, I think one would still have to try Tacool for themselves and decide.

Each can be good but some items are better than others within each cuisine. On the Mexican side, we ordered tacos, which are made on thick, fresh tortillas. The al pastor was both crispy and juicy with marinade staining the tortilla. It was excellent. However, it sat next to a pollo taco that was a wet lump of shredded meat and lacked any taste. We also ordered a burrito which is part of their Americanized fare: no rice, but a good deal of shredded lettuce and un-melted, grated cheese. I guess it was a good wrap? Fortunately, the salsa was spicy and sweet -- it may have had mango or pineapple -- and it saved the burrito from being too much like visiting a salad bar.
