In town for a baseball tournament and decided to stop after looking at the amount of 4 & 5 star reviews. Not really impressed and not sure why others would give 5 stars, I ordered the 10pc. Chicken wing meal which includes fries. The wings had a nice crunch on them but they were very small and had little to no meat on them. We received the food in a timely manner but, the lettuce and tomatoes on the sandwich were brown, wilted and old looking. The bread smelt like it was old as well. was looking forward to a hot sandwhich and what I recevied was a ward, stale bread, old lettuce that I would not dare eat. In the day when I am just coming off of being on Home Quarentine i dare not eat anything old to further weaken my immune system. I had asked the driver to call and they did not and then I would let them in through the garge, but instead the driver left it on the front stoop without calling. Solid 4.5 Don't be scared off by the appearance. Yummy food lies within. The half star is for cleanliness though...i didn't dare peek over the counter into the kitchen after seeing the foyer. We came in 3:30ish on a Wednesday and there was only one order ahead of us. But while waiting 7 people came in after. And it seems they cook to order. We waited fifteen minutes and it was well worth. (Moral of the story there - it gets busy and ya might wait but it's all good!) We got a 3 piece mixed chicken that came with fries, white bread, and a small cup of slaw, and a catfish filet basket which was three fried filets with all the above. Chicken was crisp, flavorful, and well done. The fish was the star- salty cornmeal batter and well fried. And no bones. The fries were well seasoned with seasoned salt and though a bit limp (my fave), they were excellent. They packaged it to go with two cups of ketchup, tartar sauce packets and two smaller cups of hot sauce. Two meals for just under $20. Not the cheapest for the food subject BUT it was quality so, no regrets and, we'd go back. read more

The food is good but I was very disappointed with the delivery service. I ended up having to get a refund because the driver did not bother to call and check the address. We did receive a call from the restaurant but the never followed up to let me know what happened to the food. After an 1.5 hr wait I tried calling JJ's but number went straight to voice mail. I feared maybe they weren't actually open. After 2 hrs I ordered dinner from El Toro that was ready for pick up in 15 minutes. When I returned from El Toro my dinner from JJ's had arrived 2.5 hrs later cold and nasty. The fried fish and fries here are amazing! So fresh! Honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of the fried chicken and would not recommend the chicken. Where to start? Never go here. The staff wear masks, but only on their chins, they let people wander in without masks at all and say nothing, and force you to wait upwards of an hour beyond the time they tell you on the phone that your food will be ready. In a small room. With maskless people. Oh, they also don't wear gloves or wash their hands when prepping the food. On top of that, the staff was extremely rude, refusing to even acknowledge my existence despite several attempts to let them know I was there to pick up a takeout order. The final nail in the coffin is that several of the items I ordered ended up being so disgusting that no one in my family could stomach them, and I am now having stomach troubles after trying yet again to eat it. Since moving to Champaign from Chicago, I've really come to miss what I would call the "greasy brown paper bag" restaurants. A paper bag filled with a mess of fries and sandwich that are so greasy they leak right through, leaving a dark stain on the bag. When I came into JJ Fish the first time, I felt like I was back at home in Chicago. The people inside waiting for their food were talkative and friendly, the guy behind the counter was a bit of a jokester with a sly smirk and a warmth to his demeanor. The air was thick with fried chicken, fish, and grease. For $2.99, I got a freshly-cooked fish sandwich served up hot with cheese, tartar sauce, and a whole mess of fries. The food was very tasty, but wasn't anything terribly special outside the context. Given the price, though, and the fact that I got to have a humorous conversation with the cashier, it made it worth coming back a week later to do the same. New to the Champaign area I was craving some wings. I could easily have gone to the chain wing stops, or tried something off the beaten path. I'm so glad I did! The wings are massive and meaty, dripping with the sauce of your choice (or on the side, if you prefer). The mild sauce isn't too hot, and has a hint of sweetness.
