Was stuffed with sharing it with two people but probs not enough food for 3 people. The chips in the unlimited chips and salsa are crispy! Horchata was great and not too milky. I am all for supporting small, diverse owned businesses. I am Mexican American and know authentic Mexican dining. I ordered a chicharrón in green salsa huarache. Before my food was served my waiter - a very nice and courteous young man- brought chips and salsa. Chips were excellent. Warm, crisp and fresh. But the salsa??? Pace makes it better. It's extremely easy to make an authentic salsa. Why serve something so bland and tasteless? The huarache... they basically threw in some chicharrón (very likely from a store bought bag - and kind is sprinkled a little green salsa. Because I was hungry I forced myself to eat as much of the chicharrón as possible. The huarache/tortilla bread could have been better too. Great service, food - not at all. read more

Unexciting food, served in a lively setting. Dishes were under-seasoned and meats were overcooked. We ordered enchiladas and tacos with chicken, al pastor, and nopales. I don't want to belabor the negatives so I'll give just two examples. 1) The al pastor was tough. It had a modestly peppery flavor but it spent far too long on the griddle. 2) The enchilada's individual ingredients were bland, so the plate relied totally on the sauce for flavor. The red sauce tasted like a ketchup-y barbecue sauce, which was just not very interesting. No one at the table was excited about their meal. The server brought chips and salsa when we first sit down, and they are competent family-style restaurant items. The same was true about the guacamole we ordered as well. The one notable dish was the nopales. They had been marinated with citrus and each bite popped with flavor. Maybe just order a side of nopales to eat with your chips then? Thank Goodness for yelp. This was a winner. Headed home from Casey, Il my kiddo and I were hungry. Since we were in unfamiliar territory I hit up trusty yelp and was not disappointed. The quesabirrira tacos were fire. I'm so glad I opted to ask the waitress what she suggests. She definitely steered me in the right direction. It was a Thursday night and place was packed. I am kinda disappointed about how the flavors in the food went down hill. I used to go with my father a lot to this location and I remember it having a very nice flavor, I've been telling my significant other that he should try it so we recently went in and first impression not so good with the chips and salsa, especially the hot sauce which was very bland and had a taste of ketchup first bite in, the carne asada is very chewy, huaraches are very very bland on the flavor as for beverages I think they could to better on the horchata and a bit more flavor on the dishes. Huaraches Moroleon is probably my go to Mexican restaurant right now. I ordered my go-to tacos: lengua, cabeza, al pastor. Al pastor had great flavor, and cabeza and lengua were tender. I just wish they had homemade tortillas. Chips they fry in house and salsa they make from scratch. Guacamole had more of a creamy texture, but yummy nonetheless. Huarache was made differently, as it's usually served like an oval tortilla flatbread and not like a quesadilla. Despite the presentation, it was tasty. Will be back again! read more

I am all about supporting minority owned businesses and love me some Mexican food. The review is average solely because of the food. We came to this place when we dropped off my sister at school and the entire family, 8 of us, where looking for some comfort food and this place had great reviews and a patio for Social distancing. Service was great. Location is great too. Only a short 10 min or so drive from the campus. Their patio is spaced out and covered; however, as my 8 yr old nephew said "food is decent, but you can't concentrate on eating with the flies around you". Most of us were surprised with the huarache because we were expecting them to be made of corn, not some type of flour. My mom even said it tasted like gelatine. Perhaps we're being too critical because we're Mexican, but I haven't heard these many comments from my family about food. Usually, we eat, it's good and we go on with our day. I do wonder if all the other reviews with high marks are made by folks who really haven't experienced Mexican food like I have my entire life. There's a hole in the wall place in Chicago who has really put my standards high when it comes to huaraches. Hey, if you love this place, I'm sure I won't change your mind. Since I've only been there once (today, on the way home from voting) I'll only go with 4 stars. This place was recommended by a co-worker. The fact that a crew of hispanics from the company that recently roofed our house (they had work jackets on) were here indicate that we are getting the right stuff. The house-made chips were warm with 4 tasty salsas. One looked like salad dressing but had a smoky heat. The chipotle sauce was good but pretty hot (& I like it hot). I went for Huarache. It came on a plate sized handmade tortilla, a tad on the thick size which I don't mind since I make my own tortillas & sometimes they are a bit thick. My spousal unit had a burrito enchalada which is just a Flintstone sized burrito dressed with a red sauce. We also got a side of Mexican rice which was good. The food is good & a good value. My child and roommate were looking for some good Mexican food. Heard of this place and was excited for them to get it, since they were missing it. We went for breakfast and as soon as the salsa arrived, we knew it was not good. It was jarred salsa. Then the breakfast burrito was really small and had some red salsa that was just sour and bland. I ordered the huevos divorciados which have green and red salsa and both salsas were not good and just plain bland. The huaraches are typically large, not sure, but these were small and doughy. Mass seemed raw. Unfortunately, we didn't find that hole in the wall authentic Mexican restaurant we were excited to eat at. Will have to keep on looking, but this was such a disappointment. This is a hidden gem for authentic Mexican food. Not a lot of seating, but great food and service. My wife and I stopped on a Sunday night and got a table right away. House made chips and flavorful red salsa were brought to the table. They had many margaritas and beers, as well as horchata. My wife ordered a fish taco plate that came with rice and beans. She asked for black beans, it was all amazing and fresh. She really liked the creamy chipotle sauce on top. We ordered spicy guacamole for the table and asked for some verde salsa. Both were awesome. I ordered three enchiladas, one red, one green, and one cheese with pastor, chorizo, and barbacoa. I wanted to try a variety, and they were all awesome, barbacoa was my favorite. I really wanted to like this place because it's on my way home from work , I pass by this place every day and decided to stop in tonight . The service was fast , but the food was not good . I couldn't eat it. I ordered a carne asada burrito and it was so fatty and greasy and tasted like seafood. Apparently they are not cleaning the grill properly. Steak shouldn't taste like fish , wow just wow! The manager is obviously not doing their job of quality control. In a city with no shortage of excellent Mexican restaurants, Huaraches Moroleon manages to stand out. There are so many places that provide generic, bland Mexican food (e.g., El Toro, Dos Reales, Hacienda Agave) that it's refreshing to find a place that really delivers. Highlights for me: the spicy fajitas come with jalapenos and some genuinely hot chilis, the salsas (complimentary, upon request) are outstanding, and the service is always friendly and efficient. My wife is partial to the tripas tacos, and if you want other meats less common to the standard American diet, they have them here. You can spend a lot more and get a lot less elsewhere (again, El Toro). Plus, it has a cool hole-in-the-wall feeling as a neighborhood restaurant, well off the beaten path, with a small dining room. It takes a little effort to drive there (unless you're in East Urbana), but it's always worth the effort. Highly recommended. read more

Restaurant Update: It only took 2 more years for me to come back to this restaurant. There are a couple of other restaurants now in town that can give this place a run for the money in terms of authentic mexican food. They have traditional pozole and the food appears to be home made and made fresh. I ended up getting the three steak taco meal with spanish rice and refried beans. I can't say that it was the best tacos I have had, but I think it was my fault for getting them with flour tortilla instead of corn tortilla. They are garnished well with ontions, cilantro, cheese, and tomatoes which goes well. They still give you the multiple complimentary salsa with tortilla chips which is a plus! read more
