After explaining all of the services throughout the year we were very interested, just had a couple questions. One question I asked "Is this a year commitment or if we dont see any mice activity say in a about 6 months, could we cancel?" I have been living at a Krenger property in Chicago for just over a year. Krenger sends an exterminator monthly to deter any pests setting up residence. Dean Martinez is who Smithereen sends and we couldn't be happier with him. He's pleasant and takes any problems we mention seriously. And makes them go away. By problems I mean bugs. But it is more than that. I might not be able to verify this, but when Dean walks down the street cockroaches, spiders, and all sorts of creatures literally run away in fear. Unless they are cute creatures. Once I was attacked by a crazed raccoon with rabies by our dumpsters, and Dean may or may not have punched it in the face and saved my life. Dean from Smithereen comes by my apartment once a month to check up on our pest control needs and he's always a pleasure to interact with. Very friendly and helpful. When we first moved into the apartment we were freaked out to discover a roach, but Dean put something down for us and we haven't had an issue since. And he was very gracious about our cat situation -- at the time we had to keep the cats quarantined from one another in separate rooms and he was careful not to let them slip through the door behind him as he passed through. I had a squirrel down the chimney who had made a nest in the air duct near the furnace. I made several calls and there was no one who could come out for at least 4 days. Then someone tipped me to Bobby at smithereen Pest Control. He came out the next morning and created a trap and hooked it to the end of the air duct. Darned if that squirrel wasn't in that trap eating the peanut butter and Apple laid out for it within 10 minutes of that trap being set. Bobby was great in every way! He helped me clean everything up and put my furnace back together. The whole operation was over in an hour. I know everyone can't be as lucky as we were on this day to get things over with so quickly but it sure helps that Bobby was so smart and helpful and motivated to get things done. This company was contracted for a SMALL studio to eliminate bed bugs. They came and did treatment while not advising they will be coming back for a second treatment. Then they charged an extra $1000 for the thermal treatment to eliminate bed bugs. IT DID NOT WORK!!!. They said they can't do it twice in a row so they decided to do the conventional treatment again. Do not hire them. They lack communication, professionalism and their work is NOT guaranteed. read more

I was dealing with a real bad case of termites, and they took care of the problem very quickly (were at my home within a day of contacting them) and efficiently. I had 2 different pest control companies try to help me get rid of bed bugs and it didn't work. A friend told me about Smithereen's one time heat treatments, so I tried it and it worked the first time. It took minimal prep compared to the other companies. I somehow contracted bed bugs and my condo building has a contract with smithereen. I called prior to finding out about the contract and found out the charge $175 an hour. My management office made an appointment and I prepped my house. This process takes hours and I followed it to a T. Well they sprayed and it took three hours so at first I was happy since $525 was about others quotes. I went and spent $250 on covers ( I have a king size bed) and re-cleaned my place. The next day my friend found one in my bathroom. ( I was told it was a mild case and only in bedroom). I called smithereen and they waited till my follow up date (a week later to re-inspect).The night prior I found another on my bed. They inspected and said I was all clear. That was yesterday. Tonight when I got home I saw one. So I flipped over my mattress and began finding the, in more places than originally. I began googling and found out they hide in outlets. I noticed my outlets were never touched during the spraying or inspection(I have plug ins in all and nothing changed). Well I decided to open an outlet and their they were. So how can an untrained person find 16 bed bugs in minutes but a pro can't find any in an hour? I was told since I saw one they have to inspect again next week and charge another hour. I will be calling tomorrow and since I have a building contract will have to have them spray again. I see why they charge per hour now and not $575 to $626 like everyone else. My advice, go with the flat rate and 90 day guarantee companies. This company sounds great over the phone but their work was not good and they milk the hours. Hopefully they comp the next spray and inspection and fix the issue, If so I will change my review star grade. read more

Smithereen was hired by my condo association to rid my unit of mice. They came out on 1/26/16. The technician was very courteous and knowledgeable. He put poison down and that was it. I was shocked because the past company the condo association hired (3 years ago), placed poison behind the appliances and sealed up areas where mice could enter. The other company also informed me that the poison will kill the mice and the dead mouse will dissolve over time. I asked Smithereen to move the appliances and find out where the mice are entering, he responded that they only put down poison. So basically, Smithereen will kill the mouse when it enters the unit but will not find out how the mice are entering. To make matters worst, the poison will kill the mouse and leave a smell. Of course, I can call them to remove the dead mouse (probably for a fee). As of today (2/6) I still have the mice problem. They were a waste of time. read more

I have used Smithereens PM in the past and my extermination went very well. I recently requested service and it was unsatisfactory. I was told I would receive three treatments and that would complete my needs based on the inspection. Three treatments turned into seven treatments due to the neglect of the first two technicians that were suppose to service my home. The third tech, Daniel did a great job. He took the problem very seriously. He treated my home the last four visits. He is a very thorough worker and is passionate about his job. I would recommend him by name if you are considering this pest control service. Not only was my service neglected, I have been trying to reach a manager for a month now. I have still not received a call back. I will not patronized or refer Smithereens to anyone else. Hope this review saves someone trouble before hand.
