I was convinced to stay the last five days so I could be discharged with the so-called home care package of in-home follow up therapy visits for my recovery because if I had left early, I would've gone home against doctors orders and been denied that Health service. I don't even know if it was worth it at this point because of how it felt to be in there... I just experienced another terrible episode of bad Healthcare at the Elmhurst facility at 50 Maude St. in Providence but as bad as that place was, Lincolnwood was much worse. Stay far away.

I visited several Independent Living homes and the Village was by far the best. It's set on top of a hill overlooking Waterman lake which is breathtaking from spring through fall. The facility is immaculate and the staff goes out of their way to make sure the residents have the resources they need. One of the first things I noticed when my parents moved in was how friendly and welcoming the other residents are. You can tell people enjoy being there, and my parents did too for their short time there. Their health deteriorated faster than any of us expected and they both needed to be moved quickly into the nursing home. If you meet Moriah, the general manager, (or house mom as my parents called her), she is always dressed to the nines with flawless make-up and four inch heels. When my dad needed to be moved to the nursing home, I noticed she had swapped out her skirt and heels for jeans and sneakers. She and two of the facility nurses pushed my dad down to the nursing home in a rolling recliner to make sure he could be moved comfortably and safely. She did the same for my mom when it was her turn. Moriah set-up the move in days and pushed my mom's wheelchair, this time in her heels, to her new room. If my parents had still been in North Carolina when their health crashed, or in a less accommodating facility, I don't know what I would have done. Every staff member in that place from the top to the bottom did what they needed to do to take care of my parents, and that is an invaluable service when you are dealing with aging loved ones.

My wife has been a resident at The Lighthouse at Lincoln for a year now. She has received exceptional care and is very comfortable at the facility. The staff is so caring and attentive to all her needs. There is nothing harder than having to place your loved one in a memory care facility. In my case I held out for as long as I physically could before placing her in a memory facility. The first day you leave your loved one is very hard. You are never sure you have made the right decision. The staff at The Lighthouse at Lincoln made me feel very comfortable leaving my wife. They communicated with me that day as to how she was doing and for the next few days before I went back to visit her. The staff communicates on how my wife is doing with every visit. They are also concerned as to how I am doing. The most important part of leaving your loved one at a memory facility is how you as the caregiver feel. I can't stress enough the incompetence and non-care these patients get. I can not stress enough what a nightmare this place was! The rest of the facility may be OK, I don't know. But this unit was a nighmare. I tried to contact the resident Doctor many times. You could ONLY text him. He never responded. I tried to talk to the head nurse.....she walked away from me. They traumatized my poor mother with man-handling and an overdose of anti-psychotic drugs along with other heavy drugs. This unit needs to be shut down! There are guards that bully and threaten the poor patients that are all seriously demented. Government reviews this place as inadequate. I CAN'T TELL YOU WHAT I SAW THERE OR THE TRAUMA THEY IMPOSED ON MY MOTHER. NIGHTMARE. We ended up discharging and driving my mother out of that God Forsaken place.

I told her how difficult my loved with dementia can be about bathing and she hung up on me. I thought maybe the phone disconnected, I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but my daughter called to schedule a tour and the same woman was "yelling" at someone while on the phone and then told my daughter there was no bed. I'm sure I wouldn't place my parent there with this impression anyways!
