Mimi, the cashier, has now TWICE treated me like crap. The first time her register wasn't working, she said nothing and just went to another lane. I had all my groceries on the check out belt. She said NOTHING to me or the others in line. I had to put all back in my cart and move to another lane No apologies, nothing. I was very irritated but said nothing. Today I was in her lane again. I said something about the lack of plowing of snow in the city. She went on to say that I should move to Ca. because I probably loved Newsome. WTH. She doesn't know me or where I'm from. She has no personality, or manners, or professionalism. She is a cancer to an already substandard store. I'm 73 and it's hard enough to get out, but to have to deal with Mimi is a nightmare. EXEMPLARY TEAM! I can attest to this particular Smith's location having witnessed massive improvements since I first started shopping here seven years ago, really deserves recognition. Maria, Marry, and Mimi are absolutely brilliant, courteous, and highly efficient. They have endured prolonged corporate restructuring, changes to the entire floor plan, loss of some of their best (RIP Trevis) and not reflected in any reviews. Their incredibly knowledgeable team operates with stellar performance that people completely take for granted, never mind a few peevish one-star reviews which bear no relation whatsoever to the professionalism benefiting the Carson community. These outstanding individuals assist hundreds of people every week and simply don't get enough credit for how much they have done right, making the difference nobody sees-- they are like front-end phantoms you might not even notice on a busy day- which seems to be every day! They have a working knowledge of every single product being sold, and where to find it. I have even been met at the register someone handing me the very product I couldn't even pronounce correctly to find that someone had gone out of their way to make sure I found what I needed and handed it to me while I was already in checkout! This Smith's really need some help. I can see why it has 2.5 stars. The staff tries to be nice, but they're really worn out and overworked and it shows. The main problem with the store is Internet connectivity. When you run a program that requires you to scan a QR code in the store for savings, you must provide a connection to the Internet that is reliable to take advantage of those savings. I had to tear off the price tags with the QR code and take them outside to get a signal. Well they didn't like that. I told them I will rip off the tags every single time I shop here until they make the Wi-Fi access accessible. The attitudes in this store are unbelievable. I'm a single mom and I have the worst anxiety ever going there now I always get down right treated so disgusting that I leave in tears and I literally can even understand why. Maria and the rest of the night staff are so mean and do everything they can do to embarrass me and only when I have my kid with me. I get followed all the way through the store and if they see something and I put it back Maria will come scream telling me I need to leave the store and everytime she tells me how I'm 86 from her store because they will rip my cart from me because they believe I'm stealing (I think) because no matter how busy self check out is you will find the entire staff breathing down my neck speaking so horribly to me. Tonight I was $.58 short I was literally panicking because I asked her to stop literally snooping through my purse and just like every other time every employee up front starts screaming about how I need to leave because not allowed there, mind you I've never been talked to never been caught by whatever accusations they throw but they have put hands on me and belittled me and took my cart (which also contained my purse and even my own kid one time still in the cart) and walked away telling me I need to leave. I've never done anything but ask them to give me my space and back off never yelled never disrespect nothing but man tonight words cannot even describe what they said. I was literally swiping everything I could for .58 left on my bill after Maria wanted to literally belittle me and tell me I'm not allowed there and not once was I loud rude nothing but then another employee Mary rudely comes over swipes her card and I thanked her and said I apologize of if I came off any other way but this frustration that I felt is unacceptable especially when they single me out and Mary screamed at me to shut the guck up because she paid my fucking bill and I needed to leave (it was 9:00 PM) so not wanting anymore attention I tucked my tail gathered my stuff and then I hear her telling her coworkers up front what a piece of shit u was because I was swiping so many cards... Once again the electric carts don't work. I need one to get around the store. The price gouging continues. Shelf prices do not match the price rung up at the register. ALWAYS check your receipt before leaving. More times than not you will find the wrong price was rung up. Im a 46 disabled man. Ialways shop here it's my go to for most of my needs. But recently they moved all handicap parking from front of store to the far side of building and replaced them with elderly parking. Now disabled people have to go quite a bit farther to get in store. Now this seems illegal disabled have priority over anyone we a issues to mobility to extreme health conditions. This is why we have state issued handicap. It's so we have the nearest parking. I have a hard time walking and have respiratory issues, moving the spots farther is not only wrong it's illegal. read more

Today I had to return two items, both past their expiration date, when bought a couple of days ago, and then I had to go to the pharmacy to ask why my $40 coupon for a prescription says online that I should pay in advance, $550. The pharmacist said they never charge the price on their notifications and then refused me service because I complained. Why don't you say that on your website before asking for payment? I am surprised I haven't written a review for this store. I used to come here often. I would have given it four stars last year but degradation and an inability to keep the shelves stocked are just a couple of the problems. This is long before any pandemic. They also have the most annoying shopping cart security system. Yes. You read right. The wheels lock and the cart is near impossible to move if your cart was not unlocked at a checkout counter. Must be a place you don't want to be if crime has caused them to do this. It gets worse. The people at checkout bag the groceries (thank you, btw), then put them in a cart that is still locked. You get to experience embarrassment and a sprained wrist when the cart screeches to a stop at the door. Wow! The staff is fast and friendly. I may be a mom of 3, but my youngest is still very new at 6 weeks old so I'm a new mommy all over again. Today I left my older two at home with dad and decided to shop with the baby. Halfway through shopping she freaked out and needed only food at that point. I didn't see a cafe or anywhere to sit and feed her, so I asked an employee if they had a place I could sit or if they could watch my cart so I could go to my car to feed her. She insisted it was too hot and she and a supervisor accommodated our needs and took us to a safe, quiet place to breastfeed. I was NOT expecting that. If you ever see me at the Smith's parking lot, intercept me and don't let me go in. I spend wayyy to much money here on Boar's Head everything! Jk, let me in cause I probably have more things to buy for the week. This review is strictly for the service today. I had to do a review because I had to give due recognition. Tonight I went in to purchase some things for an easy meal. My oldest son has been raving about Boar's Head caramelized onion cheddar and their pastrami so I figured we'd make pastrami sandwiches tonight; easy peasy. I have to mention that the deli dept. Is not my favorite often, with the employee turnover at this place the service isn't always the best but tonight I met a gem. Ms. Ava knows how to do things right. I asked for pastrami thinly sliced but not translucent and that's what I got. She even placed waxed paper between my cheese slices without being asked. So often I forget to ask and I go home with a clumped mess of cheese. She's very knowledgeable and helpful. The kind of employee that takes pride in her work. She was working the deli alone tonight and it wasn't crazy busy when I got there but pretty soon there was a long line of people. I saw Eva assist every customer with a smile on her face, quickly and efficiently. This review is for the deli in particular. The clerk Gage, at first we never had any problems. But one day when I came after work(I had a rough day) I may of forgotten to say "please" or "thank you" then the time after, He blew me off after I said "Thank you" after he handed me my order. A few times after this he has tried to make small talk with me and had said "Yup" after I said "thank you", one time he just nodded his head but today he blew me off again when I said "Thank you" but replied "Yup" when my sister said it after. I just think it's petty and kind of rude. I've noticed one time a married man was demanding and not using his P's and Q's when ordering with Gage but Gage was still nice and professional towards him. I on the other hand am I gay male, and I have colored hair. I just can't help but think it may be discrimination towards me. Terrible Deli service. I came at 10:55 just to be told the chicken would be done at 11am, it was 2 minutes till 11am. I told the lady and she said "oh wait, no" okay so she never bothered to check on my inquiry. I came back 2 times after walking around and still nothing. Went to Smith' last eve approx 9pm, thinking majority of shoppers would have done their shopping for July 4th earlier. Had only dozen items to p/u and use couple coupons...easy trip. When I got to check-out, saw no registers open only self-check, which I hate. Only one employee working, so half of self-check was closed; as good as she is, can only keep up with so much (while watching for people putting items in bags WITHOUT RINGING THEM!) I stood in line for few minutes, watching other shoppers come to check out and surprise on faces when they saw how long it was going to be. Soon I realized this shopping trip was unnecessary, so I prepared to exit w/o my items. Gayle and I are still trying to get our heads around a possible future move to Genoa NV. That's where a lot of her family and her "happy place" is located. However, the devil is in a load of details. One of those details is grocery shopping. In the greater Carson Valley, there's a couple Grocery Outlets, Ralph's, Save Mart, Trader Joe's, Walmart, Smith's, and others. My Son and I stopped at this Smith's yesterday which is in the downtown area of Carson City, and perhaps too far for a grocery run from Genoa. Parking and getting into and out of the lot was fairly easy. It's a big store, which is always disorienting on the first visits. We found what we were looking for easily, and the only regret is not having a club card for the extra discounts. There's really no need for that until the Nevada details work themselves out some more. read more

We shop at Smith's because of the convenience, but I've had it with the rotten produce. I just dumped 4 dollars worth of asparagus my husband brought home yesterday. If I could give no star, I would. Picked up my order of two dozen of cupcakes tonight 6p for baby shower im hosting tmrw morning. No one was at the bakery counter, so deli guy in deli dept behind counter told me to go to customer service and ask for the manager. Manager, Marvel went to the back of the bakery kitchen to see if she could locate my order. Came back out to tell me she doesnt see two dozens of cupcakes in the back. I told her Jorgene (sp?) was the person who took my order. So she called Jorgene to see where my order was. Long story short, she found my cupcakes in the walk-in fridge. She walked up to me and hands me (please picture this) a "full sheet" cake box (no dividers on it) with the 24 cupcakes loosely in it. It wasnt no rigid cake box with a hard bottom. The cupcakes are just like gliding here and there, bumping into each other and on the walls of the box. Cream were everywhere. I was expecting the two dozen cupcakes in its usual (2) one dozen clear cupcake case containers. Each cupcake sitting nicely in its holding spot. Not in a big cake box. The person working on the order is an idiot and shouldn't be a baker. Totally half ass job. Definitely no pride in this person's work. So unacceptable. No decorating I can do tonight, that will cover the half ass work. Updated (next morning 610a). I changed the one star, to two stars because of Toni. I just got off the phone with Toni, who oversees the bakery dept. She only started a week ago and is trying to get the department back on track. I told her about the two dozens of cupcakes I received last night at pick up time, in a filmsy cake box...for a baby shower I'm hosting late morning today. That its unacceptable. She was very apologetic. Said, "Yea, she shouldn't have done that. I will have her remake them for you when she comes in at 8a. That will be the first thing she makes. And they will be of no charge". I thanked Toni for making it right. Even though this will cause an inconvenience to morning schedule, for I need to decorate the new cupcakes. New management is terrible!! I've witnessed new manager yell at her employees, not treating them right , snapping her fingers at them and that's Unacceptable behavior. Clients, yes clients of the store called her out on it and just brushed if off. This place used to be a great place to shop at but this place sucks now. This store sucks. Granted, every grocery store in Carson City sucks, but this is second to worst....just a step above Grocery Outlet. It's a little better than getting food out of a dumpster. Sold out of 1/2 of what I go in for, banged up produce, mostly super discounted meat because it was expiring within two days. Every frozen sea food option was from China. You're taking your life into your own hands walking through their distressed parking lot. Have you ever walked across a Nascar track during a race? It's kind of like that. Run! I don't know if it's all the time, but every time I've gone in, it's self-checkout only. "Yea....but I don't work here. Should I grab a mop too? Restock isle 4?" (I know....this is how the world is going, but I refuse to submit) Can we get a Whole Foods or descent Safeway or a Raley's that isn't setup like a corn maze?!?! This review is for the Pick-up service only. (The store is fine, and prices reasonable, but they tend to have long lines and the parking lot is a nightmare.) The pick-up service is the best I've experienced. I have never gotten weird substitutions, nor have they been out of things that seem unlikely (mushrooms??) The app is easy to use and helps walk you through any substitutions (your choice) as well as notifies you if something can't be fulfilled. It lets you tell them when you are on the way so they can be ready when you arrive. I've never waited more than 5 minutes and the shoppers are always very friendly and helpful. Smiths rocks. I live in SLT but make the trek to Smiths every couple weeks to shop here. The prices are better than Raleys or Safeway, and frankly, I feel the selection is better. They also have a gas station on site and if you have the store card, can get 10 to 20 cents off per gallon of gas. I shop first, then before I leave, fuel up. I wish Smiths was in SLT. read more

Anyways, customer service finally got back and the manager knowing that I was waiting didn't say anything. Then I finally went and asked if customer service was open and they said yes. Don't even try to do online ordering at this store. They steal from you. First, they don't text when items are unavailable like every other Krogers. Then they charged me more than $20 for items they told me were not available once I arrived. The digital receipt didn't arrive for more than two hours. After that, I spent an hour negotiating with a "digital assistant" before finally getting a human and explaining -- again -- why I need a refund for items I never should have been charged for. This has happened six times in three months. That's not an accident: That's theft. I recommend ANY other grocery in Carson City more than this one. Dealing with dishonest people who have no training or supervision is not worth it. read more

Well, I really can't rate this store much higher than two stars, compared to the many other Kroger locations that I've been in (Smith's, King Soopers, Dillon's, Fry's and Fred Meyer). The good thing is that all Kroger pharmacies have the $4 generic drugs, however, compared to the Dayton Smith's - it seems that I always wait longer here, even though the Dayton Smith's is one of the busiest pharmacies in all of Kroger's 2000 plus stores. Another good thing is that this grocery store is relatively close to downtown Carson, and as a state employee, myself and many other employees constantly patronize this store. However, the bad side is that there's a lack of maintenance to the parking lot - which makes it hard to find a spot sometimes. Second, most of the employees at this store are flat-out rude - one to the point that I wound up calling corporate for not helping a self-identified disabled veteran. The deli is also constantly out of stock on sodas and other foods - they don't seem to care much. read more

My mom normally comes here to go grocery shopping, since she has the rewards card. It actually gives her plenty of discount when it comes to gas. She also comes here for their US Bank inside the store. I've been here before to send money to my dad in the Philippines through their Western Union branch. It hasn't been super busy from what I've seen before. Staff are normally nice and accommodating. I actually had to bag my mom's groceries last time we were here, they were extremely short staffed. Oh well. I don't usually shop here anyway, just because I view the prices to be a bit higher than other grocery stores. But, location is in the heart of town and great for the Carson City residents. The deli dept needs alot of training. I arrived at about 10:30am, went directly to the deli section to grab a rotisserie chicken (dinner recipe). I was informed they would have some done in 30 minutes. Uggg. So I slowly shop around grabbing the other items taking my time, and at 11:05, I head back to the deli to pick up the chicken. Literally stand there for 5-10 minutes before they finally get to me. I ask for the chicken and the lady tells me they are not ready yet. So I explain that 35-40 minutes ago, I was informed they would be ready in 30 minutes, when will they be done. She basically lights me up and does everything short of calling me a liar. I informed of the short hispanic appearance lady is the person who gave me the info. The lady dealing with me gets even more perturbed and tells me well we didnt even have chickens until a few moments ago... basically accusing me of making up the story. No 1... Learn Customer Service... dont accuse the customer of lieing. No need to get irate at customers who are just doing their best to give you their business. The one thing that really ticks me off... WASTING MY TIME. I for one, will no longer shop at this store, based on this experience. My advice to the store manager... you should have a nice long talk with your deli dept team, Before they cost you more business. read more

Quality products and friendly helpful staff, especially the older lady in the deli. High prices. Low quality produce, but the produce manager is very knowledgeable (don't know how that happens). In the last 60 days I have been overcharged at checkout twice for higher quantities of the same item (cottage cheese and fresh grapes) than actually purchased, returned home minus items purchased but rung up (tomatoes), found conflicting and contradictory price signs in the produce department for the same item in two different locations, and sold a useless "Kroger Wireless" brand telephone that doesn't work and did not come with instructions inside the box. For cashier and cash register issues, they make you wait at a separate Customer Service counter so you can get their mistakes corrected. Be careful in here. read more

Pretty good place to shop, always have the stuff we need if we are in the area. But the parking lot is a joke, but that could be because it is always busy. Also, the younger cashiers are always rude as heck, no simple "hi, how are you doing" they will barely look at you while handing you your receipt and too busy talking among themselves.
