I called at 7:45am on a Sat and explained my main sewer line to the street was clogged (and that I had to drive to some store nearby anytime I need to use bathroom, or else not flush...). The woman who answered told me someone would be out today, and I could probably expect a call by 1pm. In a 2min call she told me everything I needed to know - very clear and courteous. She explained how much it cost per hour, it would be time-and-a-half on a weekend (less if I waited til Monday), and reminded me to answer the phone if I get a call from a phone # I don't recognize when they're on their way. They called a couple hours later, arrived at 10am, cleared the drain 110ft to the street (it was just a soft clog), had all the paperwork and payment taken care of, and pulled away again all within 45 minutes. Colin and Josh were totally professional and very pleasant to talk with, and were happy to explain what they're doing and why if I was interested. I thought the bill was quite reasonable even when it was time-and-a-half for a weekend call. Smith has a warranty for 30 days on sewers and drains (or 6 months for tree roots). Check the fine print, some well-known drain and sewer services in Des Moines say "no warranty" even if they have to come back again 3 days later because they did just barely enough to get things flowing temporarily. I chose Smith Sewer after comparing reviews for them with several other drain businesses. No regrets, anytime I have a problem, I would call Smith Sewer again in a heartbeat. read more

I had a guy named Butch come out on the 7th of June to fix our mainline and he says he went back 100 feet into the line to snake it out. He also told us he's been doing the job for only 6 months. But 12 days later it backed up again. A guy named Tommy came out and had us flush the toilet upstairs to make sure what we told him what the problem was actually what was going on, or he wouldn't fix anything. We have had this company come out numerous times and we know enough to know what's wrong but yet they tell us that everytime. Anyway we flushed the toilet and it was in fact the problem we told him so he went ahead and snaked in there and said he went back about 50-60 feet I think. He told us there was a belly in there and said that when we go to the bathroom to run the sink and/or tub for 5-10 seconds before we flush. Fine, but he told us that OVER and OVER and OVER again. Like we got the first couple times. When we talked about Butch and how we could get our money back from the first visit since we were told it was guaranteed for 30 days, he told us to call the office, they would look into it, and then if they gave us a refund, it would come out of Butch's paycheck because they're paid per job. I understand that, but I felt that him telling us that was maybe a way for us to reconsider calling the office. I will never use this company again. Instead, I plan to get the line replaced completely so I hopefully never have to go through this again. read more

We had plumbing issues in what we thought was the main line, so we called our local place and got the run around. We called Smith's and their office was very friendly and they said they would send someone out the next day. Brandon was sent to us and he was friendly and professional the whole time. He resolved the main line issue and we thought everything was great. He left and then we realized that we had a separate issue in the kitchen. He turned around and came back and fixed that too. The whole time he was pleasant and happily answered any and all questions that we had. The price was very reasonable and well worth it! I highly recommend Smith's! read more

unfortunately we had an overflowing toilet and needed help ASAP they have helped us in the past and were great however they said they would be right out which to me means like within an hour or two and it was over 8 hours later ! Kurt found time on a Sunday to clear out our backed-up sewer line. In addition, he scoped with a camera the line to determine whether a complete or partial pipe replacement was needed. No, he determined (a big relief as this is an expensive repair) and made recommendations on how to prevent back ups in the future. He was respectful and also tidy. read more

My landlord called them out for a busted pipe and they literally lied to the landlord to get paid so I would get charged... won't be using them again! They said they found toilet paper in the pipes which was 100% not true and false.... kinda made me upset they would do that read more

Worst plumbing company I ever used! They connected the pipe to the toilet to my hot water pipe. When I complained, instead of fixing it properly they cut through my sink cabinet and ran a flexible line from the cold water line to the sink faucet to the toilet. read more
