I've been in here twice to grab some Stock Da Bar vodka, and each time the workers have been so helpful, from helping me find it to getting the bottle for me since it was too tall for me! They got me in and out both times, which I appreciated. When I came in the second time, the cashier informed me that Stock Da Bar was having a tasting soon, which was cool since I didn't know that that was happening or that they did that there! I love the fact that this is a literal corner store since the entrance is literally on a corner (if you know you know). It seems like they have a lot of variety in here as well. Since there are options closer to my house, Smitty's is not my go-to liquor shop, but I do pop in on occasion when I'm in the neighborhood. They have a large selection of liquor, mixes, beer, wine, and some snacks and supplies. I had fun looking at all the different stuff, and saw some things I'd never seen before. The employees are all friendly and helpful, and usually ask if they can help you find anything or give recommendations. The last time we stopped in, there was a Journeyman tasting happening, which was fun. We enjoyed learning about this spot in southwest Michigan. I was impressed by the selection of bourbon and whiskey, which is what we were looking for as a gift. We ended up getting one that was specially bottled for Smitty's. In a world of big box liquor stores, it's a delight to patronize a place in the neighborhood like Smitty's. I went in with a list of ten bourbons, moderately priced. Smitty's is a decent place to pick up a six-pack when I don't feel like driving to Martha's Vineyard. They have a good selection microbrews for such a small place and score extra points for stocking Unibroue four-packs. Recently they've begun offering a wider variety of single bottles, which is a big plus. Like the other reviewers have noted, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and select a few "staff picks" in the single beer cooler. On the downside, most of Smitty's inventory is fairly overpriced. Microbrew six-packs are consistently about a dollar or two more than what you would pay at Russo's or Martha's. This wouldn't be such a problem if it wasn't for their ridiculous credit card policy. A while back these guys charged a 50 cent surcharge for every credit card transaction. This violates the service agreement that businesses sign with credit card companies, and somebody reported them for it. As a result, they put up a sign offering a 50 cent "discount" for all cash purchases. In reality they are still just adding the upcharge for credit cards and charging the normal amount for cash purchases. Look, if you're going to be complete cheapskates, please just be honest with yourselves and go to cash-only. I realize that credit card processing fees are expensive, but there are ways of dealing with this that don't include willfully deceiving your customers. On a side note, Smitty's has recently put up really tacky marble siding on the exterior of the building, over the previous wood paneling. It gives the place a weird, coked out, Vegas-y vibe that really undercuts the "local business serving the community" image they're trying to cultivate. All in all, decent inventory with helpful staff and the creeping feeling that the owners are drunk with power. read more

From the amazing liquor selection, to the walk in cooler you could get lost in if you didn't pay attention; this place is tops. Any question you have the staff is more than happy to answer it and have multiple times looked things up for me if they didn't know themselves. Never was particularly blown away by the place during my time working in Eastown for 6 years. Then had one of their delivery drivers almost hit me on my motorcycle when they pulled into oncoming traffic to make an illegal turn. When I honked at them, they gave me a rude gesture. To be honest, that interaction made me want to never go there again. Disregard for someone on a bike and driving in a way that could have caused some serious damage crosses a line for me. I live in Eastown and I feel like I'm here most everyday. This is definitely the place to go to if you're going to party. Great selection, and very awesome staff. I just wouldn't recommend buying cigarettes here, because they are a tad bit more expensive than picking them up from the BP across the street. (No big deal though!) I moved into the Eastown area late summer of 2008. Being a beer coinsure my second duty (after getting settled in my place) was to find a store with a great selection of craft beers and liquors. I checked Martha's, Grapevine, Rusos, Samy's and Smitty's. After evaluating these places Smitty's was my choice! Smitty's has a GREAT selection of craft beers as well as a great selection of liquors. Not only is Their current selection great they also take special requests even if they don't have room on their shelves they will stick it in the back for you(that's how great they are! :). The staff there is also wonderful and very helpful as everyone has mentioned. As far as cost of their products, I would have to disagree with JW. They are a little more expensive than say D&W or Meijers but their friendly staff and wide selection negates that. Out of the stores I evaluated Marthas was the one that actually took the cake on being pricy. I found that Marthas charged $10 - $30 more on kegs than all the other stores and a few dollars more on 6pk and 12pk beers. All said and done Smitty's will always have my business and I will continue to recommend them to all my friends! P.S. I also disagree with JW's comment on the marble they have. I would NOT say it looks tacky at all, it's very fancy and it's nice to see a small business owner putting money back into their shops instead of in their pockets!! read more
