Called AAA, they sent Smitty's out twice, and twice Smitty's did not go out. 3 hours later, two calls to a 2nd tow company and multiple calls to AAA, another company got my kid help. I personally spoke with Smitty's and they told me it was not their area, that was not true!! I can't remember the last time I experienced such deceit and impudence! Before I went in to pick up my car (which was there due to a misunderstanding), a representative of theirs said that the total charge was going to be around $300. I made plans accordingly so that I didn't have to pay an "after-hours fee" to retrieve the car that night, which is totally nonsensical as the business boasts being open 24 hours and the rep indicated that she was on-site. When I went there the next day, the actual charge was about $200 more than what the rep promised due to an overnight fee. Their policy is a laundry list of BS excuses for piling fees upon fees and then some! When I voiced my frustration to the manager, he essentially told me to shut up. The drivers are nice when they're on a AAA roadside call, but the woman in the office is awful. Likely the result of getting told off multiple times a day by justifiably angry people. Smittys left my stranded and would not help me AND they accused me of conspiring to defraud my credit card company by saying I said I would dispute the charge with my credit card company. I told them I was going to dispute the charge with AAA to try to get reimbursed because it was not a convenience tow I was stranded because my hitch on my trailer broke. They were mad because originally they were going to tow me but I asked AAA to see if there was another tow company who wasn't having me wait 3-4 hours not knowing that AAA had to first cancel the request before they could search for someone else to tow. So when there wasn't anyone else who could tow, Smittys declined further requests to tow me. So when I called Smittys their supervisor said I was yelling at their dispatch snowflakes and wasn't going to help a stranded person. I raised my voice because I wanted to know why they kept declining a request to tow. So yes I was yelling because was it only due to the fact AAA cancelled the first request? Not at anytime did I curse at any snowflakes. I asked them why they were declining the requests and said I'd pay out of pocket for a tow that I just needed help. They didn't care. I then said I realize why they were only a 3.9 review on Yelp. Please use another tow company. And to the snowflake dispatchers who had to wait for some 'b' to tell they weren't going to tow me, grow a pair guys. read more

This place is so full of it. I went to get my car a little after 11:00 and it was gone--it had only been there for a few hours. When I called Smitty's, they told me that my car was towed around 10:00pm for overnight parking which makes absolutely no sense because it wasn't left there overnight. I had to make an appointment to come get my vehicle (which I've never heard of), and when I got there the office was locked. When I called again, they had no knowledge of the appointment and said they would send someone over in the next 30 minutes. The lady on the phone (Andrea) was extremely rude. Our conversation was by far one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever encountered. Thankfully, the tow truck driver himself (Josh) was very cool and helpful. He made it a priority to get me out of there as quickly and efficiently as possible. read more

They tried to get me to sign a form that basically ensured that they weren't liable for damages on my car, after the fact they had damaged my car (completely scraped my OEM carbon fiber front splitter bottoming the car out while lowering it) while my car was on the tow truck. I find this very fraudulent, and am absolutely shocked that I was even asked that question. I was then charged an additional $140 for them to bring another tow truck in and get my car off the initial truck without damaging it even further, because the initial guy didn't know how to tow a lower AWD car without causing damage. So I ended up paying a whole lot extra, for the companies mistake, and ended up with a damaged car. Wish I trusted my gut instinct and told the tower to just go home after watching him initially struggle with my car. read more

We were stranded in Los Padres National Forest and they came within 30 minutes. The gentleman, was very helpful and polite. I believe his name was Lionel. Our battery was shot, due to the alternator. They towed us all the way to Baldwin Park. A total of 124 miles and thanks to AAA, we only paid $84 as after the 20 mile mark, its $3.50. I would recommend them. From the office staff to the driver. Both times my man Logan provided a lift to my car and also drove me to my house. They gave me an estimate of 45 minutes, and they stuck to it. Lastly, to the guy who complained that they charged him $80 for a towing for a couple of blocks; hello, $80 is their base fare. That person does not calculate the time and wages of the tow truck driver to go to and fro where that individual was, so boo to those haters. This was the worse experience I have ever had with a tow and storage company. They over changed claiming the time to move the vehicle was longer than usual. According to the police report, the vehicle was pushed to the curb and was not in the flow of traffic. Also, they over charged for storage at $92 a day. Refused to let my wife use their rest room. Took over 30 minutes to let me get into the storage yard to remove my personal items. Now, I get a notice from the DMV that they did not submit the title for the vehicle which I gave them since I did not want to repair the vehicle. By the way, I was an automobile claim adjuster and paid tow yards for over 30 year. read more

Smitty's, and specifically Beau, saved the day for me. My 2021 Corvette with 400 miles on the odometer got a flat on a Saturday at 3:30pm. The car has no spare so I called AAA and they dispatched Smitty's. I was told it would take an hour for them to arrive, but Beau was in the general vicinity when they received the call. He circled back and was there in 5 minutes! He knew time was of the essence if I stood a chance to get to a tire shop before closing. He tried to put air in the tire, but it didn't hold. He quickly got the car on the flatbed and we were off to Goleta. He gave me the name of 2 tire places to call while he drove. One, American Tire, said they would stand by for our arrival. They deserve 5 stars as well. They actually were able to patch the hole and I was back on the road at 5:10pm. Beau was incredible. I accidentally locked my keys in the car (and thought that I would have to cancel my lunch plans because of it), so it's safe to say that I was not having the best day to start. Fortunately, however, Leo from Smitty's showed up to save the day! He arrived so quickly (about 10 minutes from the time I called), and with a big smile on his face. He got my car unlocked right away, so provided great service in that way, but was also just really nice to interact with overall. Super kind, friendly and seemed genuinely eager to help.
