At the center of the food hall trend is a need for diners to get craft, non-mass produced beer with their meals. In the case of SteelCraft food mini court, this is the Smog City Brewing bar, serving Smog City beer from Torrance They serve their beers (and maybe a couple of guest drafts), and encourage flights by listing the prices from a 4 oz to a full pull. You can also pick up a 4 pack to-go. When we came, they had 20 drafts available. We kept it original and chose the suggested 4 classics (LIttle bo pils, smog city IPA, sabre-tooted squirrel, coffee porter...all $2) and an extra (Kumquat Saison for $3). So the five beer flight was $11, very reasonable. All the beers were fine, and just reconfirmed the styles of beer: that I can drink all day (pilsner), ones to keep avoiding (IPA), good with a meal (brown), and being a meal by itself (porter). Surprisingly, I didn't care for the saison...it was way too sweet for me. We are blessed with an abundance of really good micro brewers here in SoCal, and will continue to explore ones we haven't been to before. read more

Love this brewery, located in the LB Steelcraft. I get over here a couple times out of the year and have never been disappointed with the selection or the quality. Always greeted by happy friendly staff. Today, my Beer-ista told me with a big smile, it's a great day if you're still breathing! Amen to that. Smog City is hands-down the reason we come to Steelcraft Bixby Knolls. We fell in love with them years ago at their Torrance location, so finding this spot just down the street when we moved to Long Beach was the best surprise. The beer is always on point, you can't go wrong, and the service is fast, friendly, and feels like you're part of the family. My favorite beer has always been Saber Tooth Squirrel, but I tried Cloud Drops most recently and it is perfection. Definitely make this place your local watering hole! read more

Not sure what to call it. Whatever the case, I think the spot is great. It's in Steelcraft in Long Beach, on Long Beach. Street parking. Or there's a lot across the street and down a ways. Free though. Check the signs for street parking. If you're lucky, you might get a spot in the small Steelcraft lot. There's residential streets if you don't mind walking. Check those signs too though. Walk up. Order. And either keep the tab open or close it off and find a seat. Steelcraft is an outdoor, semi-covered food hall; so it's shared with other places. No dedicated seating unless you're sitting at their bar. Five or six people I think might be max at the bar though. Beertenders have all been awesome. I don't remember their names. Wish I did. Damn I'm getting old. They know their beers. They're friendly. And they're helpful and patient when I'm standing there trying to figure out which pour to try. I'm working my way down their full menu. First off, I love smog city. One of my top 5 breweries in the South Bay. I've been to all their locations. Every location has their staple handles along with some additional rotating drafts. This location is no exception. Got their favorites that put them on the map and then some additional brews. I used to get tasters but I don't mess with those anymore. When you find a brewery with an outstanding brewmaster, you just trust them. Only a handful of breweries that I'll straight out get full pours of brews that I haven't tried but this is one of them. Just good stuff. Now the location. Inside the SteelCraft container park in Bixby knolls area. Every eatery here is fantastic and pairs well with a good craft beer. So this spot fits right in. Last time we visited was on a Sunday and they had a DJ slangin some nice grooves which really set the mood. Really love this little area. Although I live closer to the other smog city taprooms, I'll make any excuse to come out here to hang out for a bit. Cheers! read more

I visited this brewery a few days ago alone with my toddler. The bartender was talking with a friend when I walked over, and there was no line. So I waited at the register. The bartender looked me over and continued to talk with her friend. I waited over 2 minutes for her to finish her story and finally walk over to me. When asked if I wanted to close out or keep open, I responded "close out" the bartender then muttered something under her breath. The bartender didn't even look at me throughout the transaction and when I thanked her, she stood silent and walked back to her friend. I think I just found my new favorite watering hole in Long Beach. The ambiance and service were amazing. Our bartender, Deena, was so sweet! We had family from out of town and she made them feel right at home. First thing to note is that this location isn't an actual brewing facility for Smog City brewery. The best way I can describe this location at Steel Craft is its a beer bar in a food court. From the looks of the tap list I'm assuming they have the full menu of beer that the actual brewery has (I've yet to visit the actual smog city brewery). Granted this wasn't the actual brewery visit I was hoping for, having Smog City beer in Steel Craft is a great combo. There are a lot of food options here so unlike an actual brewery where you can order take out or eat at whatever food truck is visiting that day you can pick from a few different places on location. Smog City has a large list of some really good beers, so just about anyone can find something on the menu they'll like. Steel Craft is an outdoor place with some covered seating areas with a street view patio area, and the location is pet friendly. This Smog City location is also with a few miles from a couple breweries, and while it's not the big building brewery that the other locations are (Ambitious Ale, and Liberation Brew Co) the one plus they have is plenty of food options. read more

I frequent both Smog City Steelcraft and their South Bay location. What they have in common is first and foremost...DELICIOUS BEER!! Smog City is absolutely killing it in the craft beer scene, producing inspired, balanced, incredible works of carbonated art. But there's something even more special about Smog City...every person who works there feels immediately like family. They work with passion, knowledge, and great care for their product, their customers, and their community. I think you can tell, I feel Smog City is amping Los Angeles' great breweries. And that's saying something, because we have a great brewing community here!! The Steelcraft has one more great thing going for it, however...I can walk 10ft and have a bowl of delicious ramen at Tajima. Or if I get really ambitious, I can walk another 20ft and get pizza. I realized I really needed to update my review of Smog City, because it still said I "don't normally like beer", which I used to think was true, but it turns out I'm just picky about what kind of beer I like (mostly: the expensive kind!) - now I'm a huge craft beer nerd, and Smog City was actually the catalyst for that change! Specifically, their Infinite Wishes bba stout, which was the first beer I ever liked, and having had a lot of really good bba stouts over the past year, is still one of my favorites. But I've now expanded into loving various of their other big dark beers, and a number of their various sour experiments, too. Everyone's always super friendly whenever I pop in, which is becoming more and more often (for good and bad, they're constantly switching up what beers they have on tap, which means I have to pop in all the time to check out what's new!), they're always happy to give out tastes of the new stuff, and their prices are totally reasonable. Really happy to have such a good brewery locally. read more

Writing this review because I gotta sober up, and what better way to pass the time than by singing the praises of my captor? Smog City Brewing is a Torrance-based brewery, but I visited their "taproom" at the Steelcraft facility in Long Beach because their hours there are better (not to mention that there's food just steps away). As with all of the Statecraft businesses, the storefront is actually a repurposed shipping container, so if you manage to find parking (easy on weekday off-peak periods, tougher on weekends), you just have to enter the compact space and walk around until you locate them. The employees were somewhat willing to answer questions with words, but more forthcoming with samples of beers to help me distinguish between different beers described as farmhouse ales. Farmhouse Rocks was a "20% sour" and was delicious off the bat, but I didn't order it because there were so many other enticing options. To compose a flight, you grab a laminated piece of paper and a marker, then write what you want. You can choose up to five 4 oz. pours, priced individually depending on the beer, and they'll load up the flight rack for you to take to nearby communal seating (either benches or low counters with stools). Awkward Teenager ($2) hoppy tropical farmhouse ale. Hoppier than the subsequent flight members, but not in the IPA realm or anything. Easy drinker. Crushed it without waiting to taste it again later. Cuddlebug ($3): sour with peach and apricot. One of the most intensely sour beers which I've had. It felt a little like super-sour tropical, but I can see the peach and aprciot thing. If you xan handle sour stuff, try this. Benny and the Bretts Vol. 2 ($4): sour red rye aged in Sangiovese Foudre. It does remind me so much of wine, and there is a unique flavor which I've not tasted before in craft beer that must be from the Brettanomyces species of yeast, a relatively new growing trend in craft beers. I enjoyed this too. Coffee Porter ($2): just like it says on the label. It's the most coffee-like beer which I've tried, both in smell and taste. Maybe some of my taste receptors had been overpowered by this point, but I didn't really recognize any beer qualities to it. Pretty amazing. Infinite Wishes ($4): bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout. This style is one of my favorites, and this take doesn't do it wrong. Maybe more chocolate-forward than others, but bourbon smell and taste are at the forefront. Delicious. With all of these overwhelmingly positive tastes, I have to give Smog City the highest rating on Yelp. Check them out on a weekday if you're a "craft beer tourist" and linger for the nearby food options. read more

My first time going to smog city brewing! It was great a got a flight. I really enjoy sours so I enjoyed their sour called cuddlebug! It was delicious. I went to the location located in steel craft. So I grabbed myself some waffles and chicken from a different spot and got beer here. It was a perfect combo! Great spot for a Sunday afternoon. They have a parking lot. I like Smog City Brewing in this locale. They have a full selection of beers, and include tasters. Generally, I go with the stouts and porters from here. The BBA (bourbon barrel aged) stuff is usually very good and strong. I steer towards the Buzzworthy and the Infinite Wishes myself. Nice after a long day. This is pretty much the drink of choice whenever we go to Steelcraft. I like the dark, chocolatey beers and the fiance likes the IPAs. The staff is always friendly and accommodating, and they let you have samples of the alcohol if they can. They also sell cans to go, which is great if there's something you like and want to imbibe later on. read more

Not a bad place, but might be awkward for people over 30. Their beer is very good, but they didn't have any brown ale. But, the beer that I had was very good and I know they don't brew for me. So, no big deal. A predominantly young crowd hangs out there, which is also no big deal. I never had an issue with anyone. Minus one star for: They don't take cash (USD Federal Reserve Notes that state, "Good for all debts, public and private") . Well, OK, I was told they do, but it had to be exact cash. They could not provide change. However, their beer price does not include sales tax, so the beer price for a $7 beer comes to some weird figure like $7.72. So, if you are going to pay as you go, have a lot of pennies, dimes and nickels. I was hoping to just run a tab and pay at the end with cash, leaving a nice tip with whatever was left, but they insist on keeping a credit card for collateral. That is no big deal, since I know I look like a homeless derelict, and I do have a credit card. So, no strikes for that. Minus another star because: When I was leaving, I really needed to use the bathroom, but it was locked. I waited, and waited, thinking someone was using it. I knocked. Nobody answered. I noticed some console on the door handle. I thought it might be a pay toilet, but there was no place to put coins in to gain entry. I had to hold it until I got home.
