Smog Spot is a small, owner-operated smog check shop tucked away in a little business complex in Lake Forest. I found it because it was one of the only places open on Sunday, and I'm glad I did, as it turned out to be a diamond in the rough. I brought my older Honda Civic in for a smog check. The price was very reasonable and the whole experience was hassle-free. They've got a nice little waiting room set up, and the owner offered me a water while I waited, which was a nice touch. You can tell he cares about how he runs the place. My car didn't pass on the first try, but the owner took the time to point out that part of my intake needed to be replaced instead of just handing me a fail and sending me on my way. Great and fast service, completed within 10 minutes. Called ahead of time because I was looking for a place that offered smog check for pass or no pay due to a poor experience at a different smog check place. If you're located near Great Park, Irvine Spectrum, East Irvine, Quail Hill, Laguna Altura, or Irvine Research Center this location is nearby. Was able to do drop in with no appointment. I went to a different smog check place before going to this location and they said I didn't pass my OBDII catalyst and oxygen sensor. However, it can be fixed if I drive at least 100 miles and return to pay an additional $40 for a re-test resulting in a total of nearly $80 for a mid-size sedan!! I told that place that I won't be returning back and when to search for a different place online. Found lots of positive reviews from this place. Called and asked if they did pass or no pay which they typically do as long as no tampering has been made to the car and check engine light is not on. This business gained my trust and I will return in the future! Total was $48 for the smog check test and certificate (total is with a $10 off coupon applied) the coupon was listed on their Yelp page. read more

Came by and had one of the best experiences, as far as a failing smog check could go! I came here on a Wednesday, ready to pass my smog check to renew my car's registration. I sought a quote from the yelp page, and they responded to me within 20 minutes! Fantastic! I was able to come in, and be seen very quickly. Unfortunately, my vehicle did not pass. Not to fret, I was not charged a dime, and the gentleman at the counter even told me exactly what I needed to pass my smog check! It was a ripped intake hose! After having ordered the part, going through the grueling install process, and driving back on a Saturday, I met the same gentleman (regrettably, I didn't get his name), and we ran it back! This time, I passed! Good to go, and spirits high, I paid the extremely reasonable fee, and sped home! I gotta recommend this place to anyone who's in need of a smog check! Front area and waiting room was comfortable and the floor of the vehicle area is unique and spotless. When I walked in the owner greeted me promptly and offered me water while waiting. He took the car to the back and finished within 10 minutes. Excellent place and will be taking my truck here when it's time. Only tricky thing is the location.
