We are in town visiting family. We stopped at this restaurant for lunch, as it's close to our hotel and had decent reviews. We live in Missouri, where we have both St. Louis and Kansas City BBQ. We love BBQ. The server was polite and checked on us a few times. 1) plate one was beef brisket, potato salad and slaw. The slaw tastes like any ole slaw you'd buy at the grocery store. It was good but nothing special. The potato salad wasn't bad but it didn't have very much flavor. Basically tasted like boiled potatoes and mayo. The brisket was probably 70% fat. Each slice was over half fat. Even the pieces that looked like meat, had the texture and taste of fat. The picture that looks like a full plate, that was after I finished eating. I couldn't punish myself anymore than that. I posted a picture of the empty plate (we boxed up the leftovers to give to my mom's chickens) to show how much fat/grease was leftover. The other pictures show dry plates but that wasn't the case for me. 2) plate two (not pictured as it wasn't my meal) was half a rack of ribs, green beans and French fries. The ribs were tough and lacking in flavor. We are used to fall off the bone ribs. The kind where you can pull a rib and it comes out of the meat clean. We had to use a knife and fork to cut the ribs and then chew on them for what felt like forever. They also came out lukewarm and were cold by the third rib. The green beans also lacked flavor and left quite a bit of fat/grease/butter in the bowl after. The fries were also not seasoned at all. TLDR: nothing was seasoned, the food was lukewarm at best and there was enough fat/grease to clog the arteries of even the healthiest person. read more

I have a bone to pick with Smok N Bonz. I really loved the waitresses as they were friendly and attentive. However I just did not like the food. I've been twice now and have had the St. Louis Ribs, Baby Back Ribs, brisket, and pulled chicken. The ribs had no flavor, had pieces of gristle or cartilage in the meat, and had a boiled taste. We asked the server if they seasoned the meat and she was surprised that we didn't taste anything. The chicken was better. Dry of course but had that clear smoky flavor I was hoping everything would have. The brisket was probably the worst brisket I've ever had. While it looked okay, it was bland and flavorless and was totally dry while at the same time pooling in grease (or the water it must have been boiled in). See photo. The sides were all fine. Fried okra, Mac and cheese, and slaw. And I loved the table side barbecue sauce! But even a bath of that couldn't save the meat. I really want to return to support the staff at Smok N Bonz, but I just can't keep going to a barbecue place where I can't eat the meat. read more

Nice little barbecue spot in Vonore. Restaurant definitely has the barbecue vibe. The ribs were good pulled pork and chicken were very good and most of the sides were good. The sweet potato fries were kind of limp and soggy so a little disappointed about that. The service staff was new Enthusiastic first , couple days on the job but took care of us just fine. I noticed they also have a drive-through window for pick up orders. We will be back.!! read more

We ordered to go dinner for 5 people. The restaurant was not busy by the way. We were "welcomed" by a rude waitress who continued through out our wait. She ignored us for long awhile then finally came up and asked if we were finally ready to order, guess we didn't need a menu ‍. Once order was placed we waited for a good 20 minutes and decided to go to another restaurant to order some Brussel spouts to go with the bbq. While that was cooking, about 10-15 minutes (now 30 minutes since bbq was ordered) I walked back over & was greeted with "I'll let you know when it's ready". We will not be returning. Stopped in with my family Saturday night. Restaurant was pretty slow IMO for a BBQ place on a Saturday. Seated promptly and ordered apps and drinks. They do not serve beer or alcohol. Received our apps(Fried mushrooms, fried pickles and mozzarella sticks. All food came back quickly but was burnt on the outside and tasted like burnt fryer grease. Mozzarella sticks were sent back and returned the same way. Ordered our entrees and my catfish plate was overcooked. My wife's fried shrimp plate was cooked great outside and grey raw at the center. We asked for the bill promptly. Got an attitude from the waitress as I was explaining the issue. Will not be going back period. Atmosphere feels more like an ice cream shop that happens to serve BBQ than a BBQ place that has deserts. read more

Mediocre at best for BBQ. Had the ribs and smoked chunks of chicken and they tasted "blah" at best. The chicken was dry and not much flavor profile. Food was okay, we ordered a large take out order and when we arrived we were ignored for quite a while. When the person running the register finally approached us she was outright rude and said, "I'll tell you when your order is ready!" They weren't overly busy or understaffed and perhaps it was just a bad moment, but some people have forgotten that your customers can decide to go elsewhere- we certainly will look elsewhere next time. read more

What we liked: The atmosphere is just perfect for a BBQ restaurant. The place has a friendly feel and the staff is great. The menu covers almost everything for smoked meat and side dishes. All of our side dishes were great and included, Coleslaw, Baked Beans, Green Beans and Sweet Potato Fries. The Pulled Pork was pretty much average and the house BBQ sauce was good. The place and tables were very clean, especially since it's a BBQ place. No sticky condiment bottles here. What we didn't like. The Baby Back Ribs had a good flavor but were way too dry, even with the sauce, which helped. The Brisket was was also OK on flavor but again too dried out. I really wanted to give Smok "N" Bonz a five star review based on the restaurant and friendly crew but the meat wasn't what we hoped for. read more

Very dry BBQ pork. Was really hoping to find a good BBQ spot in this area but not sure this will fit my taste. Been a couple times during lunch and both times the meat was very dry. Needed to really soak it in BBQ sauce but still not great. Will do for lunch but does not make me want to repeat as often. read more

I agree with many of the other reviews. Service was good. The restaurant was clean. But some of the food is not great. Our table ordered a variety of items which were mostly good, but the ribs are subpar for a BBQ joint. The baby back ribs were tough, dry and barely warm. The spare ribs were extremely tough with little seasoning. The brisket seemed a bit dry as well. The pulled pork sandwich and the chicken was good. read more

Cute place with nice atmosphere. Mostly locals it seemed. Smelled great and service was solid. Simply ordered the brisket sandwich which was really good. Sauce selection included spicy, mild, vinegar, and mustard. Only complaint was that the cole slaw was about a thimble sized portion that I added on. Last year we went to the famous Sweet Ps, and this EASILY rivaled that, so definitely even if you're not all that close, it's worth the trip. (Heck we come from Chicagoland!) You know you're in for a treat where there is an entire smokehouse built on the property. The brisket was fantastic. Ribs fall-off-the-bone tender and juicy. The sides were all delicious; we especially loved the baked beans. And the price cannot be beat. Instead of dessert my husband and I split another order of brisket. Plus for this newly gluten-free gal, there were plenty of options to choose from for sides and such. For down home comfort and finger-licking BBQ Smok 'n' Bonz can't be beat. Little restaurant with a great charm. Meat is very good quality. It's on the dryer side but still very good. Have for type of barbecue sauce. Unfortunetly the hot is not very spicy for my and my son's taste. Rate keep coming back because it's the best food for miles Oh. Went here for the first time tonight. I had the pulled pork with a baked potato and cole slaw. The pork was perfect! Moist and not fatty. The different BBQ sauces were all tasty. The baked potato was big! Thought the slaw was very tasty too. My husband had the ribs and brisket and he totally enjoyed them too. He said the brisket was the best he ever had. I tasted it and thought it was dry but I'm not a brisket fan anyway. All in all the restaurant has a homey feel to it. Service was very good and the food excellent. Very reasonably priced. 3 stars for the BBQ, an extra star because they were so nice and friendly. The BBQ was good but no great. The ribs were cooked to a competition tenderness and I like mine a bit past that. The pulled pork was already mixed with sauce (boooo!). The sides appeared to be from a can (meh). The peach cobbler was excellent. Again, the service was great and the people were extremely nice.
