I like Buddy's and ordered a Pulled pork sandwich with no bun and a side of green beans. My husband ordered a large Ham sandwich, potato salad combo with a coke. Everything tasted good but my portion for the pulled pork meat was more like a child's portion. I can see that rising costs have caused portion control. Stopped at this local joint for an early dinner. The prices were reasonable and the restaurant was packed. Got a 1 pound brisket, green beans and 2 pork sandwiches. The pork sandwiches for my grandparents were great! The brisket was okay. It wasn't my favorite and I don't think I would be back. I'm from Texas so the similarities were poor, to say the least. Decided to stop in for dinner with the family since we haven't been to a Buddy's in a few years. Unfortunately, the quality and service has changed for the worse. We walked into no one in line. Behind the counter, I counted 7 people and then one lady out in the dining room leaning against the trash can. The lady who was running the front register was bagging a large call in order, which was fine until I ended up waiting for 12 minutes to order. While waiting this ridiculous amount of time, I watched 3 of the others work drive thru, which totaled 2 cars in those 12 minutes, and then another 3 people standing around not doing anything. For the food, both the wife and I both agreed that the pork on the sandwich was bland with no taste, but even worse, it was extremely dry even when adding extra bbq sauce. It was obvious that the pork was not fresh, nor did it taste as if it was smoked on site like it used to be. I will admit that the bbq beans were really good and were the highlight of my meal. Another disclaimer I would make would be not to waste your money on the kids' pork sandwich as it may be the size of a silver dollar if you're lucky. The sandwich and the fries were enough for our four year old, but I can't see it being enough for an older child. read more

Very disappointing first (and last) visit. Stopped in on Friday for lunch and sadly had a bad experience. Placed order for pulled pork and pulled chicken. We could see our plates before they gave them to us and instead of pulled chicken they gave us bone on chicken. We asked them to fix it nicely and the answer was it was too late as already on the plate. Seriously? It was still behind the counter so would have been so easy to fix. Instead they shoved the plate at us. While we were waiting for our food (the wrong food) a guy came in who had just been through the drive thru. His loaded potatoes were bare. Literally nothing on them. They argued at first but eventually fixed his order. Not sure what was going on but they made the customer feel like a criminal when they were the ones who messed up. Food was okay. Pulled pork good and green beans were delicious. Chicken was dry and over cooked. Ate 3 bites. Slaw and potato salad decent but lacked flavor. I understand mistakes happen but it's how you respond that makes an experience and builds loyalty. They lost a customer and the word of mouth that comes from a happy one. read more

This has to be the worst bbq restaurant I have been to. I was visiting family in Knoxville this week and decided to come here based off of feedback. The other conflict is the employee Ann is a 5 star but everything else was horrible. I had the rib dinner and 5 wings. Ribs- horrible not fresh at all and no meat at all. These are an embarrassment to ribs Sides- coleslaw not fresh either horrible! -potato salad 4 star only bcuz it was the best thing to eat but probably came out of a container. Wings 2 star ordered them hot and all they came out with was fried. Service was a joke! Ordered my food and they got it wrong 3 times and even my aunt had to argue with them about her food as well. When I ordered the worker asked what two sides I want. I thought he was giving me a dinner plate. I got two orders of fries (I like their fries a lot). On the menu it says the dinner plate comes with hush puppies. When I got my food, it was a sandwich with fries. It looked like two orders of fries but no hushpuppies. It was kinda confusing because I wasn't sure what I had ordered lol. I will make sure next time what I am getting. My food was thrown into a to-go box food all over the outside of it food all mixed up when opening it. Missing items went back and sat there for 15 mins waiting for someone to give me silverware. I am giving three stars to Buddy's. Side note; I have always wondered if Buddy is short for one name in particular (like Jim to James, Bill to William, Jack to John). Is the full name Budrathon? An argument for another day. The restaurant was clean and they were diligent in keeping it so. I saw two people wiping down trays and the drink machine. The food was also pretty good. I didn't like how they drenched the Q with sauce: I like to add my own. The green beans were good as well but I had some problems with the chili. The chili was very soupy and looked trepidatious. It tasted okay but I could tell by looking at it that there were going to be some problems later. I have a Steel stomach, but Steel isn't impenetrable. Like acid to a blood stain, that chili made its way through the lining, and eventually evacuated with alacrity. Lastly, and very superficially, the servers and FOH personnel left much to be desired. I know I am in rural east TN, but couldn't they find someone that looks like a normal, functioning human and not someone who was dragged off Cumberland Ave? Big orders on holidays like Memorial Day or 4th of July are a breeze. No issues getting everything we needed and no issues ordering the day of. The pulled pork is great, if you get a sandwich or dinner plate I'd recommend getting sauce on the side as they can be a bit generous or skimpy depending on the day. The chicken is good, not dry. It's not pulled, it's a little bigger pieces, but it's juicy. My uncle likes their ribs. The sides are okay, the family is partial to their coleslaw and potato salad. Personally I prefer their rolls to their buns, the buns seem drier. Only complaint is the slowness of the drive-thru. read more
